  • WrestleMania 27 Gate & Attendence Figures Are In

Official WrestleMania 27 numbers were released this past week and are different from the numbers announced publicly by WWE.

There was actually 68,190 total seats available at the Georgia Dome in Atlanta. The listed total tickets used for the big event was 61,617, according to information released this past week in arena business journals. This is 10,000 less than the 71,617 announced that night by WWE. With luxury boxes figured in, that number would probably increase closer to 65,000. The Dome was listed as 90% full and not a complete sellout, even though there were no tickets available for most of the last few weeks going into the show.

The gate for WrestleMania 27 was $6,268,319 – below the $6.6 million WWE announced after the show.

The 61,617 tickets for WrestleMania 27 would make it the tenth largest crowd in WWE history, not the fifth largest as announced with the original numbers. This year’s show drew exactly six more people than WrestleMania 25 in Houston, Texas.

As for the WrestleMania 27 buyrate, based on when WWE releases their numbers, they may not be available until late May because the show took place in April and not March. With WWE doing its quarterly investors meeting on May 5th, they may release the buyrate information at that time.

  • Miss USA Talks Tough Enough Elimination, Rib Injury

Eliminated Tough Enough contestant, Miss USA Rima Fakih, discusses her exit from the show, including exclusively revealing a rib injury that didn’t feature on the show that led to her being cut. Rima also talks about her fellow contestants, the trainers, shattering preconceived notions of a beauty queen and more. Plus, Miss USA reveals an incident in the house with Andy that led to her to throwing a drink in his face.

Listen to the interview here. Here are some highlights of what Rima said about:

On her rib injury that led to her being cut:

“This is something that nobody knows yet: I was injured. Didn’t tell anybody about it and what hurt was my ribs. I was sore everywhere… everyone was, but my ribs were really, really in a lot of pain. When I had my one-on-one session with Bill DeMott, they called me back into the ring at 10.30 at night. I was in there for probably about two hours just going at it — bumps after running — and I wouldn’t complain. I didn’t want them to think that Miss USA was like, for example, Michelle, who’s going to quit and go home, or I don’t want them to say, ‘Miss USA can’t take it’ or ‘Miss USA doesn’t want this’. No, a beauty queen can be beautiful and tough like Trish Stratus. That night when Bill asked me to give him a roll, he went and he landed on the same spot where my ribs had been fractured during a wrestling move I had done the week before. I screamed really loud and broke out crying. After leaving the show, I realized Stone Cold was only looking after my best interests. Bill DeMott said something to me that night, he said: ‘You’re in pain there? Why didn’t you say anything?’ I go, ‘Because I don’t want to look like a quitter’ and he goes, ‘Look, there’s a difference between being tough and being stupid. You need to take care of yourself’. If you ask me, I’d rather have stayed, broke a lot more ribs than I already did and battled it out.”

Her candid thoughts on Michelle Deighton:

“I’m sorry to say that she annoyed me! First of all, you don’t have 11 years experience, it was 11 years ago. It didn’t seem like she wanted to be there. It seemed like she just wanted to be on TV. I know that I’m putting her down, she didn’t do anything to me. The other thing that I’d like to say is that the way I got my rib injury is because of Michelle. If you’re in the ring and you don’t know how to wrestle, you could injure the other person and Michelle, her problem is that she wouldn’t ask questions. She’d say, ‘I know, I know, I know’. Well you really don’t know. And that’s how my injury happened. She didn’t know how to roll back and she kept falling on my ribs.”

  • Beth Phoenix Drafted To RAW To Keep CM Punk Happy?

As we reported this week, RAW superstar CM Punk is said to be unhappy in WWE and is considering leaving the company when his contract expires later this year.

Full Report: CM Punk Leaning Towards Leaving WWE This Year

Punk is burned out from five years on the road and is not happy with other stars such as The Miz and Alberto Del Rio getting pushed over him.

WWE wants to keep Punk on the roster and have offered him a new longterm deal, which he’s yet to sign. It’s interesting to note that CM Punk’s real-life girlfriend Beth Phoenix was traded to the RAW brand during Tuesday’s Supplemental Draft – which could be seen as a move to make life better for Punk on the road.

Punk’s possible departure from WWE later this year has been one of the main topics of discussion behind the scenes this week. Punk has been dating Beth Phoenix for the past several months and the two are reportedly a serious couple.

WWE has made roster trades in the past to keep superstar-diva couples together – with the most notable example being Michelle McCool being moved to SmackDown a few years ago so she could travel with her husband, The Undertaker.

A number of cuts will be made soon to  cut costs and free up roster space as there are numerous young wrestlers waiting in the wings to be called up to the main roster. Between NXT, Tough Enough and the developmental talent at Florida Championship Wrestling,  WWE has over 70 men and women vying for limited spots on the main roster. WWE has added only three people to the roster this year – Sin Cara, Brodus Clay and referee Scott Armstrong.

The annual “turnover rate” of main roster talent is approximately 30 people.

It is said that company officials have largely made up their minds on which wrestlers to cut ties with.

  • Backstage Heat On Melina, Update On Morrison-Trish

To follow up on the story of John Morrison snubbing Trish Stratus at WrestleMania XXVII, friends of the Raw Superstar were shocked by his cold behavior. The assumption of many within WWE is that Melina was in his ear all week because she believed Stratus was taking her spot at the pay-per-view event.

WWE sources say as Stratus was presenting her match suggestions to Morrison backstage, he said things such as “I’m not feeling that” (coined several years ago by Hulk Hogan in WCW) and “I don’t want to look at you.”

Kelly Kelly was scheduled for the Six-person Mixed Tag Team Match at one point, but the addition of Nicole “Snooki” Polizzi to the bout apparently led to a change in plans. It has been speculated that WWE instigated rumors of Kelly Kelly appearing in the match to prevent news of Snooki wrestling from leaking out.

Multiple people within WWE are blaming the entire situation on Melina as they feel she’s primarily responsible for the friction between Morrison and Stratus. Melina has been a heat magnet within the locker room for years, which is why a number of her pushes have been derailed.

Comparisons to former WWE talent Tammy Sytch (a/k/a Sunny) were drawn early in her WWE run as many people felt she was similarly difficult to deal with and that her ego was out of control. Melina was sentenced to face The Undertaker in “Wrestler’s Court” in early 2006 due to her unscrupulous behavior, which is the unofficial forum among WWE talent for the policing of wrestlers that violate the rules and traditions of the company. Her ill-behaved manners persisted and she found herself transferred from SmackDown to Raw.

There have been numerous other accounts of friction between Melina and her locker room peers dating back to her time in WWE’s developmental system.

    * She had issues with veteran female talent such as Amy “Lita” Dumas kicking her out of the locker room and forcing her to change in the hallway. Melina carried on the tradition with some of the younger Divas once she became a veteran herself.

    * Melina was involved in a backstage altercation with Sharmell on May 13, 2006 at a SmackDown live event in El Paso, Texas. The incident was triggered by Batista’s fistfight with Booker T the week prior during shooting for the SummerSlam commercial.

    — Melina engaged in a war of words with Candice Michelle via blog postings on WWE.com. In early 2007, Michelle accused Melina of stealing one of her signature wrestling maneuvers. Melina responded to her accusation by posting a picture of herself performing the maneuver in question during an independent wrestling event in 2003, proving that she was using it long before Michelle joined WWE. Michelle fired back with a defamatory post, which WWE.com deemed unsuitable to publish. Michelle also took exception to Melina claiming that she had a “spare tire” during an episode of Raw, saying she was jealous. The off-screen animosity ultimately shifted on-screen via storyline.

    * Taryn Terrell (a/k/a Tiffany) stated during an interview following her elimination from the 2007 Diva Search that Melina was the one Diva she was warned about by WWE personnel.

    * Maria Kanellis was not complementary of Melina’s backstage demeanor in interviews following her release from WWE last year.

    * Brooke Adams, who now performs as Miss Tessmacher in TNA Wrestling, revealed in an interview earlier this year that her departure from WWE in 2007 had nothing to do with Melina—as rumored. She did, however, disparage her former colleague’s character.

Adams stated, “The reason I left WWE never had anything to do with her, that was just a rumor. When I left I was actually the only person that liked her. She was such a rude, fake, bitch to everyone. She then tried to turn my girls Layla and Kelly Kelly against me by telling them a lie that I said which in reality was a rumor that she started. It was never anything I said. I can’t stand her and neither can most of the rest.”

    * Melina harbored great animosity towards Mickie James early in her career. She trashed James for months on the message forum of her official website while the two worked side by side in Ohio Valley Wrestling, going as far to call her a ‘slut’ in one post (while also belittling future TNA Knockout Angelina Love).

Melina wrote: “I’d rather work with a Diva who has no training than work with Alexis Laree.

“She steals other girls moves. Is lazy and doesn’t care about anyone but herself. It’s justice that she isn’t on tv.

“But I do want to see hard working girls such as Beth Pheonix and Shelly Martinez up on the show… as for Angel Williams… she can cry on a pillow with Alexis – slut – Laree.”

Shortly after James’ promotion to the main roster in October 2005, Melina posted a lengthy commentary alleging she was victimized by the Richmond native—without referring to her by name.

Melina wrote: “I know that there’s going to be people who don’t understand. I’m sorry… I can’t help the way I feel about HER (I Hope you know who HER is). I tried my best to get along with the girl. It’s just not meant to be. I don’t know if you’ve seen America’s Next Top Model and how cady girls can be on that show… well, welcome to my world with HER. She hated me from the day I showed up to Louisville. She made sure my life there wasn’t great. You WOULD think it was a new person thing, but when new people came around, I was still the one who got her crap. But you know, as she tried to break me…. I just got stronger and tried harder. Our work got us on tv and She hated that I was on tv first.

“She hated that I got any attention at all. You know…. I don’t consider myself pretty. Not at all. Not like the other girls. And I am cool with that. Like I have said before, looks come and go but the way I am, the way i treat people and the things I accomplish in life… that can never be taken away from me. I can die right now knowing how I touched peoples lives…. I know that I did things on my terms. I never took off my clothes, kissed ass or slept with anyone to get my spot. I worked hard. I’m not perfect but I give the people my all.”

The entire post can be read here.

In general, Melina has a reputation behind the scenes for being ‘a head case’. People within WWE were praising her for returning with a improved attitude following her long injury layoff last year, but others immediately predicted that it wouldn’t last long.

Bret Hart spoke with Tough Enough contestants on last night’s episode. The terms “wrestling” and “wrestlers” were censored during his speech.

It is said that show producers Shed Media US are still in talks with WWE regarding what terms can and cannot be used on the program.

The WWE Hall of Famer discussed his appearance on Twitter, writing, “The main points I said were to never hurt yourself or your opponent and to never forget the fan inside you that was sitting in the stands.”

Two-time World Champion Bill Goldberg, who struck Hart with a thrust kick to the head during a match at WCW Starrcade 1999 (resulting in a severe concussion), replied to Hart’s remarks.

He wrote, “I feel like you were talking to me….”

Regarding the injury, Hart speculated years ago that he may have suffered up to three additional concussions within matches over the course of that day along with the days immediately following Starrcade, having been unaware of the severity of his injuries. The sum total of those injuries left Hart with post-concussion syndrome and ultimately forced his retirement from professional wrestling. Hart wrote a Calgary Sun column in which he said that Goldberg “had a tendency to injure everyone he worked with.”

  • CM Punk Reportedly Leaving WWE Later This Year

If you’ve noticed that WWE has pulled back on featuring CM Punk’s character in recent weeks, it appears there’s a reason behind it. One of the main topics of conversation behind the scenes in WWE in recent weeks has been that CM Punk’s WWE career may be coming to an end very soon.

Punk has been telling people close to him that he’s interested in taking some time off when his WWE contract expires in the coming months.

Sources indicate that Punk has been offered a new longterm contract, but at this point, he’s not interested. Punk is reportedly burned out from living the hectic WWE lifestyle for the past 5 years and wants a break.

Additionally, Punk is said to be very unhappy with the lack of push he’s received in recent months. Punk has been a workhorse for WWE without being treated as one of the company’s top stars. While WWE has made a strong effort to push The Miz and Alberto Del Rio to the moon, Punk has been somewhat neglected and is “just there” on the WWE roster.

The topic of Punk leaving WWE started on the European tour and continued at Monday’s WWE RAW.

While Punk leaving WWE would be another huge blow to WWE’s talent roster, there’s still a chance that WWE can sign him to a new deal. It’s also possible that WWE could give him a few months off when his contract expires and bring him back when he’s had time to re-charge.
