  • JR Blog: Elimination Chamber, Cena-Rock, Trish’s Return

WWE Hall of Famer Jim Ross has updated his blog at JRsBarBQ.com with his thoughts about Sunday’s Elimination Chamber pay-per-view. Here are some highlights of what JR said about:

The SmackDown Chamber Match & Christian’s Return:

“The Smackdown Elimination Chamber match was big league. One of the best PPV bouts I’ve seen in a long time especially one involving multiple participants. It earned a FULL bottle of sauce rating.
Nice to see Christian return as he’s been on the injured list for months. ‘Captain Charisma’ is due to have a big 2011. Very skilled, underrated talent.”

    Trish Stratus’ Return:

“Another Canadian import made her return as well as Trish Stratus had an enhanced , surprise cameo on the PPV. The brunette Trish is just as lovely as the blond Trish. Good to hear that she’s going to be a Tough Enough trainer. I’m watching.”
CM Punk Getting A Great Crowd Reaction

“It sounded like there were lots of cheers for CM Punk. Was it fans being defiant, fans who simply like the villains, or fans who appreciate Punk’s skill level? What ever the reason, Punk felt like a star inside the Raw Elimination Chamber.”

Michael Cole’s Comments About Jerry Lawler:

“The Voice of WWE, or so he says, Michael Cole really had an impassioned rant in the post match of the WWE Title bout where it was almost as if Cole was channeling a classic verbal barrage from Mr. McMahon or Jesse ‘the Body’ Ventura when both were having ‘bad days.’ Very ‘I want to slap this guy’ type of delivery and verbiage.”

“It will be interesting to see how Cole’s rant is addressed Monday night on Raw as it relates to sitting next to King at their announce table.”

John Cena’s Response To The Rock:

“If you had Fruity Pebbles is the answer as to how John Cena responded to the Rock’s Cena fueled in ring promo Monday night on Raw then you win. However, one has to know that a more serious retort is coming at some point from the #1 contender to the WWE Title.”

  • John Cena Says He’s Ready For The Rock Tonight On RAW

On tonight’s episode of WWE RAW, John Cena will respond to The Rock’s comments about him on last week’s show.

Cena wrote the following about The Rock on Twitter on Monday morning:

“CeNation. Handled business last night. Tonight I will see what we do about the rock. If he wants some…come get some.”

    “This could be very interesting.”

“Ps..grabbed a spare steel chain and lock off the elimination chamber just in case…gotta go now. Big peek a boo tournament b4 raw :)”

Cena saying he grabbed a steel chain and lock could be a sign that we’ll see his old “rapper” gimmick return tonight, but that’s just speculation.

At this time, there’s been no indication that The Rock will be appearing on RAW tonight. Cena won the RAW brand Elimination Chamber match at Sunday’s pay-per-view, so he will challenge The Miz for the WWE Championship at WrestleMania.

With The Rock calling out John Cena and the Miz last week on RAW, it should be interesting to see whether The Rock gets factored into the WWE championship match at WrestleMania.

  • RAW Preview, Stacy Keibler At The NBA All Star Game, HBK

    – Tonight’s episode of WWE RAW takes place from the Save Mart Center in Fresno, California.

With today’s date being 2/21/11, expect to see the culmination of WWE’s 2/21/11 teaser videos on RAW. The arena website has been advertising an appearance from The Undertaker, so don’t be surprised if those cryptic videos were for his return.

The dark match main event for RAW will be John Cena and Randy Orton teaming up against WWE Champion The Miz and Nexus leader CM Punk, with Michael Cole as referee.

    – Ted DiBBiase and his younger brother Brett will be appearing at the 3/16 FCW show from the Charlotte Harbor Event Center. The DiBiase brothers will be greeting fans and signing autographs before the show.

    – Future WWE Hall of Famer Shawn Michaels will be appearing at the Detroit Autorama in Detroit, Michigan on 2/27 from 1-4pm.

    – Former WWE diva Stacy Keibler was at Sunday’s NBA All Star game and was seen mingling with various NBA stars on the court after the game was over. Check out this picture of Keibler chilling with Lebron James:

  • Jericho To Dance With The Stars? Edge Makes History, Christian

    – We reported last week that radio host Eddie Trunk, a long time friend of former WWE superstar Chris Jericho, was teasing that Jericho’s next career move would be “shocking” and an announcement would be made soon.

According to a reliable source, Chris Jericho is being strongly considered to be a part of the next season of ABC’s Dancing With the Stars show.

The cast of Season 12 will officially be announced February 28th, with the first shows airing in March.

If this report is accurate and Jericho does dance with the stars, he would likely be unable to return to WWE until the summer at the earliest.

    – Joey Styles noted on Twitter that Edge is now the first WWE champion in five years to successfully defend his title in the Elimination Chamber match.

    – Christian, who returned to WWE at Elimination Chamber, wrote the following on Twitter after the pay-per-view:

“So Oakland was fun!!… I was in the area so I decided 2 stop in & say hello.”

Despite his return, Christian still has a more months of physical rehab on his surgically repaired pectoral muscle.

  • WWE Considered Lawler Title Win, WWE Terms Trend On Twitter

    – At Sunday’s Elimination Chamber pay-per-view, WWE champion The Miz successfully defended the WWE Championship against Jerry Lawler. According to a WWE source, there was actually talk in creative meetings of Jerry Lawler winning the title from the Miz and then dropping it back to him on RAW tonight.

The main reason WWE decided against putting the title on Lawler for one day is because the company feels The Miz is still being established as a formidable champion and losing the title already would be damaging to his momentum.

WWE has a track record of giving young superstars the WWE title or the World Heavyweight title for a short run (Randy Orton, Sheamus, CM Punk) and apparently they’ve realized a short title run can be damaging to their characters.

    – Speaking of Lawler’s WWE title match, Jim Ross wrote the following on Twitter regarding the King’s valiant effort against the Miz, despite coming up short:

“Just talked to King & he’s disappointed in outcome of his bout w/ Miz. Felt as if he let his late Mom & friends down. Makes Raw compelling.”

    – Elimination Chamber, Trish Stratus, Jerry Lawler, Michael Cole, LayCool, Drew McIntyre, Alex Riley and … Fruity Pebbles were among the WWE-related topics that were trending worldwide on Twitter on Sunday night.

It’s worth noting that Guerrero’s new ring name is Raquel Diaz. Despite the fact that the talented young lady is not wrestling under the Guerrero family name, FCW has acknowledged that she is the daughter of Eddie and Vickie Guerrero.

  • Chris Jericho Talks Chris Benoit, Advice For TNA, A Third Book

    Ryan Rider sent the following:

CHRIS JERICHO INTERVIEW RECAP – MAIN EVENT RADIO

Chris Jericho Interview Recap: Chris Jericho appeared on the Main Event this past Sunday. The professional wrestler, former world champion, rock star, and actor discussed his new book Undisputed, already a New York Times Bestseller; as well as the status of his wrestling career, advice for TNA, throwing tobacco spit in the Rock’s face, his matches with Chris Benoit being buried in history, his band Fozzy, and more. Jericho is no stranger to The Main Event, making this his sixth appearance on the program.

SHOW: The Main Event, Sundays on CJLO 1690AM in Montreal
    HOST: Ryan Rider

I would like to introduce someone for his record breaking 5th appearance on the Main Event…he is a 2 time interview of the year winner…he is the Ayatollah of Rock N’ Rolla with his band Fozzy…the first ever WWE Undisputed world champion…his new book titled Undisputed is in stores everywhere now…he is froot…he has travelled the world countless times and lives to tell his tales…let me present, Chris Jericho, welcome back into the Main Event!!

    1) Well of course you’ve got your brand new book, Undisputed, which as mentioned is in stores everywhere now. How did writing this book differ from your first one, the New York Times Bestseller, A Lion’s Tale?

Undisputed is now officially a New York Times Bestseller. It is very gratifying. It takes a lot of time to write a book; it took a year and a half to get it how I wanted it. It feels good. Many times when you do something for the first time it’s always unchartered waters. You don’t really know how to do it, where to go. Now that I have one under my belt, I kind of knew the shortcuts but it’s a long arduous process. That will never change. This time I had more experience, more knowledge. It probably went by a little bit quicker because of my experience with the first one. If you’re going to do it right – for both of these books I wrote every word that you see. Everybody seems to like it, it’s being critically acclaimed. This is the type of buzz that you want.

    2) One of the things I was surprised about in the early part of the book was the amount of heat that you had coming into WWE. The “tobacco spit” incident with the Rock… why do you think that the rock never laid into you for it and has that subject ever come back up in a conversation with rocky?

He remembers it, of course he does. What happened was it was the first match I ever had against The Rock. I did have a lot of animosity and uphill battles when I first got to WWE. I picked up a cup from the floor but when I threw it in the Rock’s face it wasn’t beer or soda, it was tobacco spit juice. He was really freaking out, it went in his eyes. He never really did nuts on me about it. I think because he kind of emphasized with me about it because he came in with a lot of animosity coming in. He kind of had the same thing when he was first coming in – he got a big push coming in, a lot of people didn’t like him. He got a really big push right off the bat and people didn’t like him. The cream always rises to the top. He was my only ally when I first got there in 1999.

    3) You seem to be your own biggest critic throughout both of your books. Do you ever feel that you are a bit too harsh on yourself?

It’s one of the reasons I’m always successful in everything I’ve done. I’ve never settled for anything. I’ve always wanted better. I always want it perfect, but nothing could ever be perfect. It makes you strive for that. It makes you create better moments in wrestling, or in music, or in writing. As an artist you always want to get better. Every time you sit back and think “I am the best in the world at what I do”, but if you believe that all the time then you’re living in denial. That’s something that people appreciate in both my books is that I’m always very honest. When something didn’t work out the way I wanted it to work out I had no problems bringing it up and facing it. It makes for great stories and great writing no matter what the situation might be. I think Undisputed overall is a better book than A Lion’s Tale because it is just as funny, just as honest but it a lot deeper because of all the experiences I went through during the time period I wrote about. The first book is written from a guy in his 20?s with a frivolous and fancy free type of vibe. Things in life hit you in different ways. Mature experiences, grown up experiences seen from a guy in his 30?s sees it in a different vibe; but still very funny, very entertaining. A good movie will take you through an emotional roller coaster. That’s what Undisputed does.

    4) Numerous times in the book you state that it is a shame that many of your classic matches are buried and technically do not exist anymore. Do you think that WWE should acknowledge the matches that you had with Chris Benoit?

I don’t really want to watch them. I don’t think I would get the same enjoyment or vibe from them after all that’s happened. I don’t blame Vince for now using them because he [Benoit] did a lot to damage the industry. It’s not a shame that they’re not shown; it’s a shame because of what happened. I would feel very uncomfortable at this point, maybe in the future, but not right now.

    5) Wrestlemania X8. You got 1/5 of what your opponent HHH got paid for the event. I heard that Hogan wasn’t happy with his pay at the event either compared to what he got in the old days of Wrestlemania. Why, when you were the champion, did they book you so atrociously as Steph’s lackey and then sent you a low-end paycheck?

One didn’t have anything to do with the other. You can read the whole story in the book. It was my idea but the other part of the story where Stephanie and I were having an affair was left out. Then I would end up being pussy-whipped by her. People in the crowd always know someone who meets a girl and then you never see the guy again. Next thing you know the guy is wearing the same clothes as her, likes the same music as her. I thought it would be really good. Vince liked that part of it but not the other part of it. I was basically pussy whipped without the pussy. IMO I wasn’t really quite ready for it. It wouldn’t be booked like that the other 5 championship reigns I had. But at the time I was just trying to keep my head above the water and be a good soldier. This made for great stories in the book. Just because you’re the world champion doesn’t mean you’re the best. That was the problem at the time, I wasn’t the best guy in the company even though I was the champion. And that was the problem. You learn and get better as a performer. I had a better repore with Vince, with the performers. You get better with age. And that’s the way it should be. Whether you’re a performer, a soldier, a computer programmer, or the President of the United States, as you get more experience you get better overall.

    7) Speaking of booking…you make a jab at TNA’s booking in your book. You also posted some tweets on your Twitter page (quote: After 10 yrs TNA talent still have an inferiority complex. If u don’t think that u work for the BEST COMPANY EVER then nobody else will! As a performer u hav to act and project that where u work is the pinnacle of competition! If not then the whole place just seems second rate)…What advice do you have for them?

When we worked in ECW it was a small company, I wasn’t making more than $250 a match, but you believed in that company. You believed you were better than WWE or WCW. When you believed it, the fans believed it. There were people there who would die for the company. That’s how you gain fans. If you don’t have the confidence in yourselves. If I’m watching something where they basically say we’re #2, and always talking about #1. Then why would I watch #2? I would just switch the channel to #1. If you work somewhere, you need to project that this is the best place in the world. Otherwise then why are you there, why are you wasting your time being there? I want TNA to grow as a company, it’s better for me as a performer and me as a businessman. But how can they grow if every chance they get they are constantly talking about up north and the WWF? When I was up north everything was against me and now I’m the champion. Well that makes you look bad. If I was working for TNA I would say that this is the best company in the world and this is where the best competition is. And leave it at that. If you don’t believe that then you shouldn’t be on TV working there.

    8) What is the status of your wrestling career right now? I assume that you plan to come back down the line, but will this be sooner or later?

I left the WWE in September to tour with Fozzy. We have a lot of momentum behind us. We’ve been to England, Ireland, Scotland, Wales, France, Belgium, Australia, Canada, we just did a show in Los Angeles a few weeks ago which was cool. When I was a kid I had two dreams: to be a wrestling and to be a rock star. I’m not sure what’s going to happen with wrestling. When the time comes, if I feel like I’m ready to go back and that I’m going to be able to reinvent myself and do something better. Roll the dice, who knows. In 2005, I knew that I might have never came back, I was really burned out on wrestling. I knew that if I came back I wanted to be better than ever. This last time I wasn’t burned out, I just had other projects. I’m still a big fan of the product. Whatever happens, happens. I’ve been very fortunate that I’ve never contained myself within the wrestling box. I have a lot of projects that are very successful that I need to spend time on. A lot of people get mad at me by that but that’s what Chris Jericho has always been. If my name is on it then it is the very best that I can possibly do. In the WWE, if I was there right now I would not be 100%. And you can’t be that way when you’re working there, you have to be 100% committed. If not, step aside and let someone else take over that is.

You’re going to have to wait until Book #3. Undisputed ends when I return to the WWE in 2007. There is already 3 ½ years of material including the 3 best years of my career. Undisputed is going to do even better than A Lion’s Tale. There is no reason to not do #3. The material I have for #3 is just as good as the first 2. I still have a few years to go before I write but I would definitely like to write another one. But it is not about the numbers, it is about the quality. If I don’t think it would be as good, I won’t do it.

  • WWE Elimination Chamber 2011 PPV Results

    Dark Match:

Daniel Bryan beat Ted DiBiase to retain the WWE United States Championship.

We get a video package to open the show as per usual. The video focuses on the road to WrestleMania, as well as the Elimination Chamber itself, billing the Chamber as a dangerous battleground.

The pyro hits and Michael Cole welcomes us to the PPV. The set has a very cool chamber theme to it, and the WrestleMania sign is highlighted pretty immediately. We open with Alberto Del Rio’s personal ring announcer, so it’s pretty obvious who will be the first man out.

MATCH #1: Alberto Del Rio vs. Kofi Kingston (Non Title)

Del Rio makes his way out to the ring to quite a bit of heat from the crowd. The announce team tonight has been shaken up as Cole will be joined by Josh Matthews and Booker T.

Del Rio grabs the mic and informs the crowd of his name, but he’s sure the crowd is already aware. Del Rio says he’s committed to excellence, and he means it. He’s not like the people from Oakland. He talks about the Chamber match that will be taking place tonight, and says the men will endure pain, for the honor of a WrestleMania match with him. And he will be the new World Heavyweight Champion. Del Rio calls Kofi trash, and says he cannot stop destiny. Del Rio goes to say something else but he’s interrupted by Kingston’s music. Kingston makes his way out from the back to a big pop from the crowd.

The bell rings and both men lock up. Kofi pushes Del Rio into the corner and the ref forces a break. Another lock up, and Kofi pushes Del Rio back again, only for it to be broken jup. Del Rio’s announcer distracts Kingston and the ref and this allows Del Rio to take down Kofi before hitting a back breaker, and a kick to the back. Del Rio whips Kingston across the ring, but Kingston is able to reverse Del Rio and hit a dropkick to knock him down to the mat. Del Rio rolls to the outside, where his announcer fans him. Kofi follows and lays in with a big kick to Del Rio’s back before rolling him back into the ring. Kofi hits Del Rio with another kick to the spine. When he gets back to his feet, Del Rio is met with a forearm to the face.

Kofi goes to the apron, but he’s knocked into the ring post by Del Rio and sent to the floor. Kofi’s sent into the ring steps before Del Rio takes things back into the ring and locks in a body scissors. Kofi is able to fight out, but Del Rio slams Kofi down to the mat by his hair. Del Rio mounts Kofi, pulls on his hair and hits several clubbing blows to Kingston’s face before hitting a nice belly to back suplex. Del Rio locks in another body scissors, continuing to apply pressure to Kingston’s midsection. Kofi is able to fight out yet again with a series of elbows, and both men get to their feet. Del Rio sends Kingston into the corner, but Kofi leaps up to the top rope and comes off with a big flying forearm.

Kingston and Del Rio fight on their knees and up to the feet where Kofi hits a series of chops, taking Del Rio down with a big flying chop before connecting with the boom drop. Kingston postures for the crowd, but when he tries for the trouble in paradise, Del Rio moves. Kofi is able to connect with a kick in the corner, but when Kofi tries for a crossbody, Del Rio counters with a gut buster that’s good for a near fall. Del Rio puts Kingston on the top turnbuckle and tries for a superplex, but Kofi is able to fight it off and send Del Rio down to the mat. Kofi stands and delivers a big missile dropkick. Kofi goes for the pin but he only gets a two count.

Del Rio is able to connect with another gut buster, but it’s still not enough to keep Kingston down for three. Del Rio launches Kofi into the ropes and up into the air, but Kofi reverses into a DDT. Kingston covers Del Rio, but Del Rio’s announcer distracts the referee. Del Rio tries for the cross arm breaker, but he can’t get it and Kingston is able to connect with the SOS, but Del Rio kicks out at two. Kingston tries to leap up into the corner on Del Rio, but Del Rio moves and connects with a neckbreaker while Kingston’s sitting on the top rope. Del Rio locks in the cross arm breaker, and while Kofi fights it, he eventually falls and has to tap.

    Winner: Alberto Del Rio

Backstage, Randy Orton is shown pacing back and forth before Cole asks Booker what it’s like to be going into the Chamber. Booker says Orton is always expecting the unexpected, so he’ll be ready.

Todd Grisham is standing backstage with Edge. Grisham asks if Edge will be Del Rio’s opponent at WrestleMania. Edge says he was hoping today could be casual before walking into the most hellacious match in the WWE. Edge says no Champion has ever survived a Chamber match, but he’s also won a Chamber match. He knows it won’t be a walk in the park. Drew McIntyre comes in from the side, clapping. McIntyre gets in Edge’s face and asks him how he feels about getting Kelly Kelly fired. McIntyre says Edge took something important away, and Drew will take away Edge’s most prized possession. Edge says the title and Kelly Kelly have something in common in that they’d never be seen with Drew.

Elimination Chamber Match for the World Heavyweight Championship
Edge (c) vs. Kane vs. Wade Barrett vs. Drew McIntyre vs. Big Show:
The Chamber begins lowering, and the crowd is hushed. The Chamber definitely is always an impressive sight.

Kane is the first man out to the ring, as his pyro hits. He makes his way out quickly and hops right into one of the Chamber pods.

Drew McIntyre is out next, to a bit of heat from the crowd. He stares at the cage and rattles some chains before walking around, and taunting Kane, telling him he will drop everyone in the match. McIntyre also enters one of the pods. Wade Barrett is the third man out to the ring.

Barrett also looks around the Chamber, as he, along with McIntyre are both new to the Elimination Chamber. Barrett throws his t-shirt at McIntyre and stares down Kane before entering his own pod.

The next man out is… Teddy Long! He says, as everyone knows, he fired Dolph Ziggler. Long introduces Ziggler’s replacement, who after a little bit of a pause, is announced to be the Big Show!

Show makes his way out to the ring and stares down Barrett, smiling and slapping his hand against Barrett’s pod. Show tests the chains and steps into a pod of his own.

Rey Mysterio is out next, to a big pop from the crowd. Both he and the Champion have the arduous task of making it through every other competitor in the match tonight. The Champion, Edge, is the last man out to the ring, also to a big pop from the crowd.

Edge looks at the Chamber before making his way inside. The title is displayed for the crowd, and the door is locked, we’re ready to kick things off here. The bell rings and Mysterio and Edge lock up. Edge pushes Mysterio into the corner, where he lays in with a couple of punches to the side of the head. Mysterio comes right back with a couple of kicks to Edge’s leg before falling victim to a flapjack. Edge tries for a quick cover but only gets two. Edge kicks away at Mysterio in the corner, but Mysterio comes back with a boot to the face and a dive out of the corner straight into Edge. Mysterio is able to catch Edge with another kick, but he’s launched to the outside with a back body drop, crashing off the Chamber floor. Edge goes to the top but he’s stopped by Mysterio, who connects with a top rope hurricarana for a two count.

Edge slams Mysterio into the Chamber wall repeatedly before kicking away at Rey’s chest. Edge slams Mysterio head first into Kane’s pod, and Kane doesn’t look too happy about it. Edge tosses Mysterio into the ring and tries for another quick pin, but it’s still not enough. Edge charges Mysterio in the corner but he eats a drop toe hold into the middle turnbuckle. The clock counts down and Wade Barrett is the next man to enter the match.

Barrett stomps away at Mysterio right off the bat, but Edge ducks a clothesline and pounds on Barrett in the corner before tossing Mysterio up and into Barrett. Edge and Mysterio celebrate for a second before Edge tosses Mysterio under the bottom rope where he slides into the Chamber wall. Barrett is able to attack Edge and take him out before going to the outside and bringing Mysterio back into the ring. Barrett hits a big pumphandle slam, which is good for a two count, before whipping Mysterio into the corner, and stomping away at Edge. Barrett sends Edge to the outside and slams his head into the Chamber wall before bringing things back into the ring and trying for a cover, only to get two. Barrett whips Edge into the ropes, but Edge holds on and when Barrett charges Edge, Edge catches him with a low bridge and Barrett falls to the floor. Mysterio catches Edge from behind and he goes to the top but he’s aught by Barrett. Barrett catches Rey in Wasteland position and uses Rey’s legs to hit Edge. Rey grabs on to the cage wall and he’s able to connect with a hurricarana to bring Barrett back into the ring. Rey tries for the 619, but Edge connects with a big boot to stop him cold.

The clock counts down again as Edge pound on Barrett in the corner, and Kane is the next man in the match. Kane comes in and connects with a throat chop on everyone, before Edge catches him with a boot. When Edge goes to the top and comes off though, he gets another throat chop. Kane hits Barrett with a low boot that’s good for a two count before pounding on Mysterio in one corner, and Edge and Barrett in the other. Kane hits a big boot on Edge and a side slam on Barrett but is caught with a big kick from Mysterio, then Edge, and then Barrett, who all get a two count out of it. Barrett, Edge and Mysterio all look to go for a clothesline and all connect in a very weird fashion. Kane is back up and he tosses Mysterio out of the ring before hitting Edge and clotheslining him out as well.

Kane goes to the outside as well and begins slamming Barrett’s head into the Chamber walls. Barrett tries to retaliate by doing the same, but Kane won’t let him, and slams Barrett’s head into the Chamber wall a couple more times. Mysterio goes to the top and tries to catch Kane, but Kane hits him with another throat chop and Mysterio ends up in the tree of woe, only to catch a dropkick from Edge. Kane comes back into the ring and hits another big boot on Edge before launching Barrett to the outside again. The clock counts down and the next entrant is McIntyre.

McIntyre comes in and immediately picks up Mysterio and launches him head first into the pod before teaming up with Barrett to take out Kane. When Barrett tries to get back into the ring, McIntyre kicks the rope into his crotch and launches Barrett into the other side of the same pod as Mysterio. McIntyre goes back into the ring, mounts Edge, and lays in with a series of punches before hitting a quick suplex for a two count. McItyre tries for the future shock DDT, but Edge counters with the Impaler DDT. Edge is able to make it back to his feet and he tries for the spear but Kane grabs him in chokeslam position. Edge fights out of it, and Rey almost hits the 619 on Kane, but Kane avoids it, and takes out both Edge and Mysterio before backdropping McIntyre into Barrett. Mysterio was sickly thrown head first into another pod.

The clock counts down one last time and the Big Show is the last man to enter the ring. He immediately clotheslines everyone before tossing out Edge and Kane, and chopping McIntyre out as well. Show stalks Barrett around the ring and grabs Barrett between the post and one of the pods, slamming his straight back into the pod. Barrett continues to try and get away, climbing the walls, but Show lays into Barrett with a series of nasty chops. Back in the ring, Show connects with the KO punch and pins Barrett to get three.

    Wade Barrett is eliminated

Show eats a clotheline from Kane from the top rope, and a future shock DDT from McIntyre, but it’s not enough to keep him down for three. Mysterio leaps from the top of one of the pods with a seated senton, but it’s still not enough for a three count on Show.

Mysterio hits a 619 on Show and Edge follows up with a spear. Both men are then in turn taken out by Kane. Kane sets up for the chokeslam, and he connects, pinning Show and getting the three count.

    Big Show is eliminated

McIntyre tries to leap off the top rope onto Kane, but Kane catches him with a chokeslam as well, and gets another three count.

    McIntyre is elimnated

Kane turns to Edge and Mysterio next, but he’s not able to hit a double chokeslam. Kane tosses Edge to the outside, but Mysterio is able to counter a slam into a DDT for a two count. Mysterio connects with a springboard leg drop to the back of Kane’s head but it’s still not enough for three.

Kane tries for the chokeslam on Mysterio, but Mysterio counters into the 619. Mysterio tries for a hurricarana, but Kane stops him, only for both men to be hit with a spear from Edge. Edge pins Kane and gets the three count.

    Kane has been eliminated

Kane is angry and takes out his frustrations by hitting Edge with a big boot and Mysterio, and then Edge with a chokeslam before exiting the ring. We’re now down to two men, and it’s the two who began the match.

Both men are slow to get up to their feet after the attack by Kane, and when they do, Edge tries for the spear. Mysterio counters into a roll up and he’s able to get a two count. Mysterio connects with a springboard crossbody but Edge counters into a pin of his own, only to get two. Edge whips Mysterio into the corner and he’s met with a big boot. Mysterio hits a big facebuster on Edge but it’s still not enough for a three count.

Edge sets up in the corner and tries for the spear but Mysterio is able to avoid it, only for Edge to attempt another, and connect. Edge pins Mysterio but he’s still able to kick out.

Mysterio hits Edge with a right that sends him into the ropes. Rey connects with the 619 and a springboard body press, but Edge is also able to kick out at two. Mysterio is able to send Edge into the ropes once again and connect with another 619, but Rey goes to the top rope, and when he leaps off, he’s met with a giant spear from Edge. Edge pins Mysterio, and he’s able to get the three count.

Winner and STILL World Heavyweight Champion: Edge

    Monday is February 21, 2011 – 2/21/11.

  • “Thats What I Am” WWE Movie Poster & Synopsis

The official movie poster has been released for the upcoming WWE Studios film, That’s What I Am, co-starring Randy Orton.

Here’s the movie synopsis from IMDB.com:

A coming-of-age story that follows 12-year-old Andy Nichol (Chase Ellison), a bright student who, like most kids his age, will do anything to avoid conflict for fear of suffering overwhelming ridicule and punishment from his junior high school peers. Everyone’s favorite teacher, Mr. Simon (Ed Harris), pairs Andy with the school’s biggest outcast and social pariah, Stanley, aka “Big G” (Alexander Walters) on a critical term project. Sporting thick orange hair, a head too big for his body and ears too big for his head, “Big G” has been the object of ridicule since grade school.

Before long, Andy will learn that there was truly a method behind Mr. Simon’s madness as to why he teamed these two up. As the story unfolds, Mr. Simon finds himself the target of a malicious rumor after Principal Kelner (Amy Madigan) suspends a school bully for brutally beating up a female classmate who he thinks has “cooties.” When Andy watches “Big G” fearlessly confront the school bully, a series of events are triggered, which change the lives of both young men – and their teacher – forever.

Much to Andy’s surprise “Big G” is brilliant, kind, tolerant and a decent human being, who has more dignity than anyone Andy has ever encountered.

  • WWE Toy Designer Talks About Working With Warrior & Savage

Bill Kerner, Director of Design for Mattel’s WWE toy line, spoke with Slam Wrestling at last week’s 2011 Toy Fair in New York City. Here are some highlights of what Kerner spoke about:

What WWE’s Youth Movement Means To Mattel:

“It’s important to get the young guys. The ideal thing would be to have on Tuesday morning the hottest thing from Monday night. That’s the Holy Grail. The Nexus for example, and we will do most of the Nexus guys in their original outfits with their bands and stuff, the shame is that it will be after the fact. They’ll be doing different things. The challenge for us is to be able to react to that quickly and be able to get them in a reasonable amount of time. We’re always trying to institute new characters quicker. We’re working on getting things into the system in maybe 90 to a 100 days. And I know that may sound like a lot of time, but it isn’t for a toy company. It normally takes 60 to 70 weeks.”

WWE Keeping Them Informed About Future Storylines:

“We’re working with the WWE on that. They’re giving us more up-front information which is very difficult for them to do because sometimes they don’t know until the night it happens.”

Will We See A Michael Cole Action Figure?

“It’s funny you mention Michael. We’ve had a lot of discussions about him. We’re trying to figure out how we’re going to work announcers and referees in. It’s harder to justify those one-use characters. But I think we have some really good opportunities to work those guys into the line. ”

WWE Legends They Will Work With:

“We’ve done a deal with Bret Hart so we’re going to be doing Bret. We’re trying to go back even further; we’ve been talking to Gorgeous George’s estate. Andre (the Giant) is on the list, he’s coming. You may see him in September of 2011. ”

Their Experiences Working With Randy Savage & Ultimate Warrior

“Macho Man and Warrior … you have to nurture those guys. But, we’ve really established good relationships with them, they like working with us. Macho Man has been terrific. We were so worried about him because he was kind of jaded when he came out of the business. He was a little afraid to get back into it. And, he’s been great. I think he’s going to be doing more stuff. I think you might even see him more out there in the WWE world. I’m not going to speak for him, but he seems to be getting back into it a little bit.”

Will We Ever See A WWE Bruno Sammartino Action Figure?

“I want to do Bruno. Him and Mr. McMahon haven’t always been on the best of terms. We’ll bring him up and he’ll say, “No, no, not yet. Come back to me in a couple of months.” But we are talking to him (Bruno) and I think we will see him sometime in 2012. Cause you’ve got to do Bruno.

Some guys we’re going to bring out and do because they have to be done. I’m a designer, we need to keep the vision alive.”

“We have to show the collector world that we’re serious about this, and we’re going to do all the key people that should be done. We’ll get Bruno done and I think there are a lot of other guys that the fans are going to be surprised that we’re going to go after in 2011 and 2012.”

  • The Chaperone Fails To Register At The Box Office

BoxOfficeMojo.com’s chart listing the top grossing films for the weekend of February 18-20, with the bottom movie making $1,670 in one theater, did not rank the The Chaperone.

Furthermore, the bottom five movies played in less theaters than the WWE produced film — ten.

The Chaperone will be released on DVD and Blu-ray on March 8.

“Rock was amazing on Monday!!! Welcome back. True class putting over Austin. Great show Monday. Cena got my respect when he went an hour with HBK. Is Rock Cena not maln event at Mania? Rock cut a money promo, trashed his money opponent.”

    — Regarding DVR usage of Monday Night Raw, the January 24 episode was viewed in 209,000 homes via tape delay–a 94.0% live vs. 6% tape breakdown, or the difference between a 3.29 and 3.50 cable rating.

    — Via Twitter, Randy Orton is giving away free tickets to WWE’s March 14 Monday Night Raw taping in St. Louis. • Linda McMahon Seriously Considering Another Senate Run

Former WWE CEO Linda McMahon told the Greenwich Times this week that she is “seriously considering” another run for United States Senate in 2012.

“I’m leaning in that direction,” McMahon told the Greenwich Times this weekend. “I’m seriously considering another run, but I haven’t made up my mind yet … I’m getting a lot of calls, a lot of encouragement from people around the state. I enjoyed my campaign.”

Daniel Kelly, Executive Director of the State Democratic Party, had this to say about Linda running again:

“I think she runs, and, if she runs, her money, I’m sure, makes her a formidable candidate within the Republican primary. But if she gets to the general (election), she’s the same Linda McMahon, and she has the same failed record of laying off employees and paying herself millions, the same record of steroid abuse and degradation of women in the WWE and she spent nearly 50 million in one of the most Republican years ever and came up short.”

Connecticut’s Republican party chairman Christopher Healy, said: “I think she’s doing what anybody would do. I think she’s been evaluating what the campaign was about, what was good, what was bad. I think that’s appropriate for anyone running for statewide office next year. You’ve got to start early.”

When asked about whether she plans to work for WWE again, she shot down the idea. “I have no plans to return to WWE.”

  • HBK On His Wrestling Future, The Rock Kept A Secret

    – Shawn Michaels was interviewed at the first annual fund raising dinner for The Outdoor Adventure Foundation, Texas Chapter, yesterday. Here’s what he told Amarillo.com about his future in wrestling:

“I’m not going to wrestle again. The only way a 185-pound guy made it in that business is to do something nobody else ever did. The best thing I can do is to stay retired, because nobody ever stays retired. I’ll still be part of the company. You never really get out of the WWE unless you’re wearing concrete shoes at the bottom of the Hudson River, but no more active wrestling.”

    – WWE went to great lengths on Monday to keep The Rock’s return a surprise. People working in WWE production were told that Justin Bieber would be announced as the WrestleMania 27 guest host – and the episode of RAW was even titled “Leave it to Bieber” on the episode script.

    – Actress Ariel Winter, who appeared on RAW last Monday and stars in The Chaperone, told Star Magazine that she did her own stunts in the movie. Regarding Triple H, she said:

“I had an amazing bond with Triple H, he’s like my second Dad.”

  • Ziggler Goes On Twitter Rant, Claims He’s TNA Bound

On Friday’s SmackDown, Dolph Ziggler was awarded the World Heavyweight championship, lost it back immediately to Edge and was subsequently “fired” by the returning Teddy Long and has been removed from tonight’s SmackDown Elimination Chamber match. To play up the angle even further, Dolph’s superstar profile has been removed from the SmackDown roster page on the WWE website.

Following the events that occured on SmackDown, Ziggler went on a Twitter rant, playing up the storyline firing and teasing that “Dixie” will help him make an “impact” and “spike” someone’s ratings.  Here’s what he wrote:

“Historic 600th episode of WWE Smackdown tonight on SyFy! I will address the DOLPHans after, Thanks for your support over the years!

First of all, I can’t believe that I got to live my dream for this many years and actually come to do it pretty damn well! Even though I used to caddy around and actually went through a rigorous gymnastics and cheerleader training I thought we made it work! I got to make a lot of friends and a couple of enemies, but no matter what, every time I stepped through that curtain, especially these ast 2 years, I felt like a champion, I lived to go to work each day and try to steal the show like no one else could!

No matter what happens in the coming weeks and months, I appreciate the fact that my hard work and countless hours studying and learning paid off! I was in the world title picture as a legitimate threat, and appreciate that I got that chance! Most don’t!

I hope this youth movement continues, and I hope its just not to build young guys up and have the mainstays dominate and not pass the torch. There is a ton of hungry young talents and they LOVE their jobs, just like I and did! Hopefully they get their chance! I hope to see zack ryder, trent barretta, curt hawkins and some others get their chance, bc they love what they do, and remind me of why I got into this business! Hopefully Wrestlemania will not be a look back into the attitude era an have all the young guys watching backstage.

I love the wrestling business, and maybe its time to take that next step into the danger zone, brazzers are u hiring??? Haha. I’m sure the door is always open, and I know I busted my ass every damn day I worked for this company, and no matter how doughy and truly. Annoying the miz is, he’s obviously onto something (2,000 tries later)! Daniel bryan couldn’t draw a dollar with a green crayon! I love hating on him! He got carried to one of (actually THE best match of the year) and john morrison is nothing but a pretty boy doing ballet.

I will see all of u again, SOMEWHERE! And now its time to make an impact and spike someone else’s ratings! U know me, I’d rather be in Dixie. Thank you dolphans for ur support! And know I loved pissing everyone off and stealing their show! I will truly miss this more than anything ……Its only NATURAL.”

  • WWE Accused Of Trying To Block MMA Legalization

WWE’s public position on Mixed Martial Arts is that MMA is not direct competition to sports entertainment, but a Connecticut lawmaker who is fighting to get the sport legalized in his state says WWE is campaigning against his efforts.

Connecticut state representative Matthew Lesser has introduced legislation for Mixed Martial Arts events to be held in his state, one of only 4 states that currently does not sanction the sport. Lesser argues that MMA is a safe, regulated sport and would bring a great deal of tax revenue to the state government.

While the MMA legalization movement is gaining momentum, Lesser claims that World Wrestling Entertainment is actually lobying against the cause, using it’s influence in the state to squash a potential competitor.

WWE spokesman Robert Zimmerman said that WWE is not opposed to the MMA bill or anything else Connecticut wants to do with regards to sports or entertainment.

The General Assembly’s public safety committee is slated to hold a hearing on the bill Tuesday afternoon.

DISCUSSION: What do you think about this? If Lesser’s claims are true, is WWE wrong for lobbying against MMA, when MMA would almost certainly take away from their business? Should MMA be legalized in all 50 states?

  • JR Blog: Elimination Chamber. Jarrett-Angle In TNA

WWE Hall of Famer Jim Ross is back with another blog, which you can read in its entirety at JRsBarBQ.com. Here are some highlights of what JR wrote about:

SmackDown Going Live: “No…I don’t ever see Friday Night Smackdown going live, full time IE weekly. It might happen occasionally but it isn’t cost effective or travel friendly to do live TV on Mondays, Fridays, and some Sundays and still try to do live event touring. Makes no sense.”

The Angle-Jarrett storyline in TNA: “An emailer asked me what I thought about recent TNA storylines involving Mr. and Mrs. Jeff Jarrett and their children. I’m not a regular viewer of TNA first of all but what I have seen of this storyline that’s allegedly based in reality isn’t my cup of tea. I could care less what the adults do in their storyline but having minor children involved doesn’t personally work for me. TNA isn’t my hill to die upon and I harbor no ill will toward them but I find it challenging to believe that some individuals actually think that this is effective, episodic TV.”

Tonight’s Elimination Chamber: “I’m anxiously looking forward to Sunday’s Elimination Chamber PPV from WWE that emanates from Oakland. Obviously, and based on precedent, the Chamber bouts will occupy the majority of the ring time on this event but my focus is on the King vs. Miz bout for the WWE Title. Miz will likely see every trick in the wrestler’s handbook in this one and I don’t expect this title bout to be a marathon. It can’t be a marathon bout if The King Jerry Lawler wants to win the WWE Title IMO. The 61 year old WWE HOF’er, who buried his 90 year old mother on Wednesday, needs to essentially tell us what time it is and not how to make the watch when Jerry looks to make history. Not only would Jerry be the oldest WWE Champion ever, or so I think, he would also be in rarefied air as a WWE Hall of Famer who wins the title after being inducted into the WWE HOF.”

  • News On “Tough Enough” Casting, Diva Moves To Las Vegas

Wrestling Observer editor Dave Meltzer said yesterday on the f4wonline.com message board that WWE had absolutely no hand in the casting decisions for the revival of Tough Enough. USA Network officials and the show’s production company, Shed Media Us, had full control on that aspect. The goal was to select models for the reality program.

    — Rosa Mendes, who has not toured with WWE in three weeks, indicated on her Twitter account that she has been dealing with a personal issue as of late.

She wrote Thursday, “Just finished an amazing photo shoot. I want to thank Scott, Amber and Leslie Homan, for all their hard work today. These past few weeks having been a little tough. This shoot made my day. I want to thank all my friends for their texts and prayers. It means a lot.”

Mendes also stated that she moved to Las Vegas yesterday.

  • Aries Hints Retirement Following WWE Snub, Punk Lands Cover

    — Austin Aries, the only two-time ROH World Champion, hinted yesterday on Twitter that his wrestling career may be coming to an end following a recent setback.

“Apparently not big, young, or tough enough,” he wrote. “While it’s been amazing, the AA chapter of my life may be coming to an end very soon.”

Aries, who is 32 years old and billed at five foot nine, was among the most notable wrestlers bypassed for Tough Enough.

    — CM Punk is featured on the cover of the March 2011 issue of WWE Magazine, with the headline reading “FEAR ME!” Enclosed is an interview with the Straight Edge Superstar, who explains why he has yet to have his definitive WrestleMania moment.

    — The first digital issue of WWE Magazine will be launched in January.

  • Jerry Lawler Talks About His Mother Passing, The Miz & more

He’s been a guest on ClubWWI.com twice before and now, as he embarks on the biggest match of his WWE career Sunday against The Miz at the Elimination Chamber pay-per-view, Jerry “The King” Lawler returns for an all new interview with James Guttman to address many topics he hasn’t yet had the chance to.

The King covers a ton of subjects including his upcoming Legends Reunion tag match with son Brian Christopher against Bill and Jamie Dundee on March 2nd in Evansville, Indiana as well as his big PPV bout and moments he missed on Monday’s Raw.

As many fans know, Jerry was absent for Raw this past Monday due to the death of his mother Hazel. James Guttman asks the King about his mom and the tremendous outpouring of support from WWE and the wrestling community as a whole during this tough time. Lawler speaks out on it:

“It has been an extremely tough week and I want to thank – if any of your listeners were some of the thousands, literally thousands, – I was amazed at the emails, texts, facebook friends and that sort of response from so many people with their condolences and sympathies and that sort of stuff. It meant a tremendous amount to me.”

James mentions how many thought WWE’s handling of the situation was classy and Jerry agrees. He speaks about the support they showed. Guttman brings up how even Michael Cole and The Miz were respectful in their mentions on Monday and didn’t use the sad event to “get heat” as some in wrestling do. The King again agrees, but points out to ClubWWI.com listeners that the reigning WWE Champion wasn’t thinking straight when he issued a warning to how the King handles his grief.

“(Miz) didn’t want me to use the passing of my mother as an excuse to lose at The Elimination Chamber. In reality, if the young man were in his right mind, he’d know I would not use that as an excuse but as motivation to make my mom proud of me.”

Guttman points out how the match against Miz on Sunday has an extra level of intrigue surrounding it. With the long running knowledge that Jerry “The King” Lawler has yet to wrestle in a match at WrestleMania, despite his near 20 year run with the company, the chances that he could do so as the incoming WWE Champion is the stuff legends are made of. Could he enter the show with the belt and what would that mean to him? As the ClubWWI.com interview continues, Lawler gives his thoughts.

“It couldn’t unfold any better. If that were the case, if I were to win Sunday and be in WrestleMania as the WWE Champion, it’s like a dream come true. To me, that would be better than a Rocky movie. It would be absolutely amazing. We’ll have to see how that unfolds. That’s what I have the opportunity to do and – gosh – you couldn’t ask for a better opportunity.”

Jerry goes on to discuss his respect for the Miz as a performer and how’s grown since his debut. Of course, he still has to beat him up on Sunday. The same can be said for Michael Cole. Since becoming WWE’s resident evil announcer, Cole has gotten under the skin of countless fans. James brings up a possible Cole-Lawler match down the line and asks the King what he thinks about it. Turns out that ClubWWI.com members aren’t the only ones wondering about it. Everyone is:

“I’ll I can tell you is that the majority of comments and emails and communications with all the fans, that seems to be the one thing that everybody wants. Michael Cole has got everybody just completely ticked off. They want to see him get his and it seems they want me to be the one to do it. It’s amazing because almost every correspondence I got about my mom from wrestling fans, they’d say something like, ‘Dear Jerry, we’re really sorry and send our condolences on the loss of your mom and hope everything works out and please, by the way, punch Michael Cole in the mouth.’ Who knows? I think that might be an interesting match.”
