  • Jim Ross Blogs About UFC 124, GSP vs. Silva

WWE Hal of Famer Jim Ross has updated his blog at JRsBarBQ.com with some commentary on this past Saturday’s UFC 124 pay-per-view. Here are some highlights of what Ross said about the show:

The Overal Show: “I enjoyed the PPV and felt that I got my monies worth. That is and should always be the bottom line of purchasing any PPV. UFC 124 delivered in the Octagon which is where UFC begins and ends.”

Georges St. Pierre’s Performance: “GSP was Rembrandt. His jabs were lethal…essentially toxic. Koscheck’s right eye looked like pulled pork (O.K. one BBQ reference…get over it.) St. Pierre had the crowd and the fight in the palm of his hand. He is money both in and out of the ring. GSP is the type of fighter that the UFC is smart in building around because he’s never going to embarrass the company and will always represent the sport in a classy way that will attract sponsors, casual fans and impress uninformed politicians.”

Josh Kozcheck: “Koscheck seemed to know early that Saturday night in Montreal wasn’t going to be his night and perhaps felt going the distance would be somewhat acceptable against, arguably, UFC’s top attraction. Koscheck is a tough kid who marketed this fight well and should earn a nice payday for paying the role of 1997 antagonist Shawn Michaels in Montreal. Someone needs to be the bad guy, in an organic and not over the top way, to assist in selling big time, UFC PPV main events. Koscheck handled that role well and he’s to be commended. Koscheck got whipped like a government mule but never quit.”

A GSP vs. Anderson Silva Dream Fight: “What’s next for GSP? Or perhaps the most relevant question is when will GSP fight Anderson Silva? That has seemingly become THE fight in UFC and seems ideal for the Rogers Centre in Toronto which is an arena that WWE has sold out for two Wrestlemanias as I recall. With a hot semi main event, I could see St. Pierre vs. Silva doing north of 50,000 fans and massive PPV numbers in the Dome in Toronto.”

As always, visit JRsBarBQ.com to check out Jim Ross’ great line of BBQ products.

The SmackDown Diva denied AJ’s finishing maneuver attempt, the Octopus hold, and moments later garnered the three count. After the match, Mendes said it was her dream to become the Queen of FCW and continued rambling in Spanish.

In a trivia note, Mendes has yet to win a singles match on WWE television since joining the main roster two years ago.

    — One day after appearing as a heel at WWE’s annual Tribute to the Troops event, Melina was back working as a babyface at last night’s Raw live event in Biloxi, Mississippi. She and Eve beat Maryse and Alicia Fox in a tag team contest.

    — Randy Orton accidentally bled during the Tribute to the Troops main event — John Cena, Randy Orton and Rey Mysterio vs. The Miz, Wade Barrett and Alberto Del Rio — which he acknowledged last night on Twitter.

“Had a great time at Ft. Hood today. Met many people both military and civilian, and we put on one hell of a show. Got split open in the match, curious what makes show,” he wrote.

    — In a correction from a match result, R-Truth actually beat Ted DiBiase with the Corkscrew scissors kick, not the Lie Detector.

    — The participants of the 15-Man Battle Royal were Chavo Guerrero, Chris Masters, Cody Rhodes, Daniel Bryan, David Otunga, Ezekiel Jackson, Heath Slater, Husky Harris, John Morrison, Justin Gabriel, Mark Henry, Michael McGillicutty, Santino Marella, Sheamus and Vladimir Kozlov.

  • *Spoiler* Babyface Star Works As Heel At Tribute to the Troops

Melina performed as a heel at this afternoon’s Tribute to the Troops event in Fort Hood, Texas as she teamed up with Lay-Cool and Alicia Fox in a Santa’s Little Helper Match against Divas Champion Natalya, Kelly Kelly and The Bella Twins. The babyfaces went over with Kelly claiming the pinfall.

It was reported earlier this week by the Wrestling Observer Newsletter that creative planned to turn Melina heel and have her feud with Divas Champion Natalya. The idea was first conceived a few weeks ago and it is said that Melina garnered heat backstage because she was negative on becoming an on-screen villain.

Meanwhile, a renewed relationship with John Morrison recently teased on Monday Night Raw is considered a dead idea.

  • Dana White Talks About Undertaker, Lesnar, Vince McMahon

UFC President Dana White recently spoke to Fanhouse.com’s Ariel Helwani about the changes of Brock Lesnar working at WrestleMania, The Undertaker’s face-to-face confrontation with Brock Lesnar following his last fight and his relationship with WWE chairman Vince McMahon.

Regarding the Undertaker – Lesnar confrontation, Dana White said:

“It’s funny you are asking me that because Undertaker called me to apologize for that.”

White mentioned that he has a “great relationship” with Vince McMahon and gets along well with many of the past and present WWE guys.

White was asked about whether he would allow Brock Lesnar to work with WWE, as has been rumored for next year’s WrestleMania. White’s response is not going to make any WWE fans happy:

“No… No. He is under contract with us … I don’t want to blur those lines. First of all, him coming over and making the choice to leave the WWE and come over here, we gave him that shot. It was a big risk on our part. The guy was 1-0 but he’s done incredibly well. What the guy’s been able to accomplish with no experience in such a short amount of time, I don’t want him going to WWE and blurring the lines of what’s real and what’s not. I think it happens to us sometimes now.”

  • Joey Styles Reviews The NXT Season 4 Premiere

Joey Styles has shared some of his thoughts on this week’s NXT Season 4 premire. He wrote on Twitter:

“Actually, my favorite thing about NXT now is that Cole is not on headsets insulting and undermining the entire show and its concept.

Mexican aristocrat, Alberto Del Rio and “The Rat” Conor O’Brian may be the oddest WWE Pro and NXT Rookie pairing in the show’s history.

While these challenges are fun to watch and are for immunity points, climbing a ladder has nothing to do with being a WWE Superstar.

If a Rookie has wrestling ability and charisma, he won’t need immunity points to escape elimination. I want to see Byron Saxton wrestle.

Derrick Bateman was the best wrestling Rookie tonight. He will benefit greatly from Daniel Bryan’s tutelage. Solid season premier for NXT.”

  • Head SmackDown Writer’s Job Reportedly In Jeopardy

Many within WWE have speculated that Michael Hayes’ role as the head writer of SmackDown is in jeopardy. His right hand man Chris DeJoseph was recently let go and the program has garnered dismal ratings since moving to Syfy.

In recent years, non-main event talent preferred SmackDown to Raw because there was more room for career growth. Currently, WWE’s Friday night brand features veterans garnering most of the spotlight with only a few exceptions.

One WWE source said that while Hayes received much praise for pushing younger talent, his focus is generally on the veterans. Writers who have worked under him are the real reason young talent are showcased on SmackDown.
