    — Sheamus appears today in Bloomington, Minnesota at the Best Buy in the Mall of America. The autograph signing, which begins at 1:30 p.m., is limited to 300 people.

    — Both WWE and UFC have discussed holding their annual events honoring the United States troops in Fort Hood, Texas. With neither entity heading overseas, WWE has discussing holding their show on Dec. 15, while UFC has Jan. 22 in mind. Neither dates are official at this point.

    — Regarding World Wrestling Entertainment promoting a “one time only” appearance by Triple H at their Fan Appreciation Day Supershow in Hartford, Connecticut on Oct. 20, some took it to mean he is “coming out of retirement” for the day. To clarify, they used the wording of their advertisement to signify that “The Game” was not returning to a regular schedule at this time, but rather merely making an appearance. That said, no one in the company broached on the subject believes he is retired. Everyone is under the impression that he is rehabbing his arm injury and will return to the squared circle sooner or later. (source: PWInsider.com)

  • New WWE Title, Update On WWE Cable Network, Khali

    – Following the recent talk that WWE is considering unifying the WWE Championship & the World Heavyweight championship by WrestleMania, we’ve learned that there is a new silver WWE Championship belt being created that will be for sale early next year. No word if WWE plans on using this as a new Unified WWE championship or if it will simply be a merchandise item, but it’s an interesting development.

    – WWE’s planned cable network is still in the works, according to an article on the company’s website. While “Setting The Record Straight” against the inaccuracies being reported by Democrats in Connecticut and various media outlets,  the company revealed that it will be adding another 140 employees next year to work on the new cable network. • Paul Bearer Says WWE & Vince McMahon Saved His Life

WWE manager Paul Bearer appeared on the Right After Wrestling SIRIUS XM radio show this week.

Paul Bearer, who is currently involved in a feud between his “sons,” said that Vince McMahon and the WWE were responsible for saving his life. Bearer used to be morbidly obese and the reason he is alive today is because WWE paid for his gastric bypass surgery prior to his return to the company at WrestleMania XX.

“I’ve always been heavy, in fact I was morbidly obese (before WrestleMania 20) And Vince McMahon picked up the $35,000 tab for the gastric bypass surgery. There’s no doubt in my mind, if I didn’t have that surgery, I wouldn’t be here today, I would have died long before my wife did.”

Aside from just helping with the surgery, WWE was there for Bearer in other wise during some of the toughest times in his life.

“When my wife was first diagnosed with cancer in 2001, Vince and Linda and company were always there for me. When my wife passed away, they were reaching out and taking care of me.”

Bearer also revealed that during his initial interview with the company in the early 90s, he did not know anything about the Undertaker character and WWE had no idea that he had worked at a funeral parlor for many years and had a degree in Mortuary Science.

  • JR Blog: Lesnar’s Fight On Saturday, Goldberg-WM27, Cole

WWE Hall of Famer Jim Ross has updated his blog at JRsBarBQ.com. Here are some highlights of what JR said about:

Will Brock Lesnar Be Tested This Weekend? “Damn right Brock Lesnar will be tested Saturday night in Anaheim during the next UFC PPV. Cain Velásquez is fighting for a cause, or so it seems, his heritage, but more importantly Velásquez is a great athlete who has won at every level of amateur and professional  competition. Plus, any heavyweight in UFC is always only one punch away from ending his  night’s work. I see Lesnar winning Saturday but not without having a great night of stand up defense and using his size advantage appropriately. Lesnar being already at 265 and shredded is a scary thought for any human being who has to deal with the baddest man in MMA.

Criticism Of Michael Cole: “Michael Cole does not deserve to be piled on like many are doing. Michael is fulfilling a role on a fictional, TV show. He has been ‘cast’ to play this role as best as he can. For those that have never sat in that particular seat, let me assure you that it isn’t easy. Cole’s new persona must be working because never before have so many fans, for better or for worse, commented on Cole’s work.”

People Offended by Wrestling: “We’re getting too many emails from fans who are ‘offended’ by what they see on TV wrestling shows. Do you know what I do when I’m offended by a TV program? You got it…I change the channel. TV viewers should not become overly concerned about what they cannot change regarding a TV broadcast. For me to be a part of the recent WWE image video was both a surprise and a true feel good moment. I am very proud of my work in WWE over the years, the great people that I have worked with there and the company as a whole that has provided my family with a great quality of life. It’s cool to know that my grandkids can hear my work as the years roll by thanks to www.wweclassics.com and WWE On Demand.”

Bill Goldberg and WrestleMania 27: “Yes I do think that Goldberg could be a nice edition to WM27 in Atlanta if all the stars were aligned correctly. Bill is still in good shape and certainly n adequate enough shape to go out and have a solid match with the right guy. (No, I don’t know who the right guy is but I do know that it isn’t the Undertaker.)  I get asked Goldberg questions several times a week for the record. The second question is would Goldberg be a nice addition to the WWE Hall of Fame TV presentation in Atlanta? Absolutely and particularly if he were wrestling the next day.”

  • Linda McMahon’s Campaign Attacked For “Stand Up For WWE”

The Connecticut Democratic State chairwoman Nancy DiNardo has filed a complaint with the Federal Election Commission to determine whether Linda McMahon’s Senate campaign is responsible for the new “Stand Up for WWE” campaign. DiNardo issued a statement earlier this week claiming that WWE was unfairly trying to get voters to vote for McMahon. There is a federal election law that prohibits corporations from working directly  with political campaigns.

Update: WWE Defends Itself Against “More False Allegations”

  • Details Behind Hardy’s Release From WWE, Expected To Join TNA

World Wrestling Entertainment officials had discussed releasing Matt Hardy from his contract weeks before it was officially granted last Friday. There were some in WWE who wanted Hardy gone as soon as he requested his walking papers, but the key factor preventing organization officials from letting him go was the belief that it would keep Jeff Hardy in TNA Wrestling longer than his current deal calls for. The argument was that with Linda McMahon nearing the end of her Senate campaign, WWE shouldn’t employ a wrestler doing anything he could to get fired.

Those close to Hardy say he is definitely headed to TNA Wrestling. While those affiliated with the Orlando based organization have not been directly told he is coming in, most everyone broached on the subject expects it to occur.

There has already been discussion within TNA Wrestling of programming a Hardys vs. Beer Money, Inc. feud with the hope that it would elevate Robert Roode and James Storm. It is said that both Hardy brothers are very much aware of this possible scenario.

Meanwhile, Hardy’s numerous attention seeking videos, such as a recent entry of him eating lunch with an unmasked Rey Mysterio, have not endeared him to the TNA locker room. TNA employees who said they were friends with him in WWE aren’t defending his online behavior.

World Wrestling Entertainment issued a press release on Wednesday in response to the Democratic Party in Connecticut requesting a federal investigation into whether WWE and Linda McMahon’s campaign worked together in launching the “Stand up for WWE.” There is a federal election law that prohibits corporations from working directly  with political campaigns.

Earlier this week, the Connecticut Democratic Party spokeswoman Kate Hansen said, “Linda McMahon’s $50 million attack machine now has corporate reinforcements, thanks to the ‘Stand up for WWE’ campaign launched by her husband Vince McMahon. No coincidence, it looks a lot like her political campaign… except this one is probably against the law.”

    WWE issued the following statement:

    WWE DEFENDS ITSELF

STAMFORD, Conn., October 20, 2010 – Due to what the WWE® considers malicious and misleading attacks reported by some members of the media, the company on Monday began a global initiative to defend itself called “Stand Up for WWE” which has resulted in yet more false allegations.

Edge recently purchased a new home in North Carolina, where he plans to settle down after he leaves WWE.

“That’s part of the reason I bought up here. We want to retire and listen to the wind in the trees, and we want to do it fairly soon. I may have two more years. With each injury, it’s harder and harder to come back.”

    — Today is Chavo Guerrero’s birthday, who turns 40 years old.

WWE SmackDown garnered a 8.7 rating in Mexico, topping programming from AAA (4.5) and CMLL (2.6).

  • NXT Diva Responds To Criticism, WWE Still Hauling “Piggy James”

    — Last night’s match between Maxine and Kaitlyn on NXT is being almost universally panned by both wrestling fans and Joey Styles alike.

“And I thought WWECW was hard to watch. OMG that match stunk on ice,” Styles said of the match on Twitter. “After that match, Mae Young is rolling over in her grave…and she’s still alive!”

Maxine responded to criticism of the match on Twitter, writing, “Yea the match was tough. It’s hard to lead someone with 2 months experience almost impossible.”

Kaitlyn had no prior wrestling experience prior to being signed by WWE in July.

    — Though Mickie James has long since departed from World Wrestling Entertainment, the company’s production staff is still hauling around equipment used during the storyline deriding her weight to shows.

Reader Kyle wrote that before Monday’s Raw in Calgary, Alberta, he and his friends observed the WWE production trucks situated around the Saddledome and noticed a cart with a big box labeled “Piggy James.”

Once a storyline has been completed, items used during the storyline are either trashed or dropped off at an undisclosed warehouse near WWE headquarters in Stamford, Connecticut.

  • Bret Hart Rips On TNA, Hulk Hogan, Eric Bischoff & Russo

WWE Hall of Famer Bret Hart was interviewed this week by Brian Fritz of Fanhouse.com to promote the new SmackDown vs. RAW 2011 video game.

Hart had some pretty harsh words about TNA Wrestling, saying it’s run by people who don’t know anything about the wrestling business and feature dinosaurs on television that take time away from the company’s real stars. Here are some highlights of what Bret said about:

Hogan, Bischoff & Russo Together Again In TNA:

“Well, I’ll be honest. After being in WCW and being around them, you start to realize that these guys — Bischoff in particular — never understood or knew anything about wrestling. They just struck me as guys that didn’t understand wrestling. To see them working with another company now, to me, I think you’ll eventually see that they don’t know anything. They didn’t know anything then and they don’t know anything now. They’re not going to make a difference anywhere they go.”

TNA’s Young Talent Getting Smothered By Dinosaurs:

“Yeah, competition is always good. I have a lot of respect for the young wrestlers there like AJ Styles and Kurt Angle and Samoa Joe, Abyss, different guys. I know they’ve got a lot of talent there and guys that I consider good friends of mine including RVD (Rob Van Dam). I wish them all the best and I hope the younger stars get a chance to show what they’ve got rather than coming back to the old dinosaurs like Hulk Hogan or Eric Bischoff with the same old certain babble that he’s been doing for 10 years when he’ll babble about nothing. He somehow positions himself to be a star on the show and I think there’s real stars that need to get that light and not him.”

  • Updates On Daniel Bryan & Kidd, WWE Releasing Divas Calendar

    — Daniel Bryan behaving as a “Ladies’ Man” may be integrated into his on-screen persona. The WWE Divas and Bryan celebrated with dancing following their respective scuffles with Vickie Guerrero and Dolph Ziggler.

    — Though it was teased last night on Raw that Tyson Kidd could be turning heel following The Hart Dynasty’s latest loss, creative plans as of today were for him to remain babyface.

    — The next special edition issue of WWE Magazine will be a 2011 Divas Calendar with the Divas in swimsuits. Among those featured on the cover include Michelle McCool, Eve Torres, Rosa Mendes and Kelly Kelly. The magazine officially hits newssstands next Tuesday.

Hansen told CQ Politics:

“Linda McMahon’s $50 million attack machine now has corporate reinforcements, thanks to the ‘Stand up for WWE’ campaign launched by her husband Vince McMahon. No coincidence, it looks a lot like her political campaign… except this one is probably against the law.” There is a federal election law that prohibits corporations from working directly  with political campaigns.

Hansen added, “Linda McMahon’s claim that her husband’s aggressive public relations campaign is independent of her own political campaign is unbelievable, particularly after Vince McMahon specifically cites the Senate race as the reason for the offensive.”

WWE Spokesperson Robert Zimmerman defended the company’s intention of the Stand Up campaign, saying,  “It had absolutely nothing to do with the Linda McMahon campaign. It’s trying to correct inaccuracies that have been reported. … The attention that’s been put on WWE by Linda’s opponents have focused media attention on the company.”

  • Eric Bischoff Comments On The “Stand Up For WWE” Campaign

TNA executive Eric Bischoff is speaking out about Vince McMahon’s new “Stand Up For WWE” campaign, lending support to his former employer.

“Good for Vince,” Bischoff wrote. “I don’t blame him for wanting to use his platform to activate WWE fans and speak out against some of the mainstream media b.s. that has been flung at Linda McMahon and the WWE.

“Linda’s opponent and his surrogate campaign staffers over at MSNBC, have used their ‘news’ format to trash a woman who has raised a family, overcome financial challenges, and helped build a billion dollar industry that is weathering the financial bon-fire that her challengers predecessor, Chris Dodd provided the lighter fluid for with his role in the disastrous bail-out debacle.”
