  • WWE Contemplating Buried Alive Match, Reaction To Bad Ratings

    — WWE has discussed tying the 20th anniversary of the debut of The Undertaker character with November’s Survivor Series. One of the ideas being discussed is a Buried Alive Match between The Undertaker and Kane.

There has been talk of it being Undertaker’s final run with the company and they wanted him to conclude his career with his longtime manager, Paul Bearer, by his side.

    — Regarding WWE’s overall reaction to less than stellar television ratings in recent weeks, many are not worried. However, a number of people are butting heads over the company’s creative direction through the end of the year, as well as what to do with certain characters.

    — While nobody expects Nexus to be disbanded, it has been noted that the faction’s merchandise sales have been poor. WWE officials expected the group to get over as anti-heroes, but its merchandise has failed to significantly move.

  • WWE Considering Turning Kaval Heel, Steamboat Update, More

    — WWE has discussed turning Kaval heel and having him feud with Rey Mysterio early next year.

When the NXT season two winner was initially signed, Mysterio was one of the people pushing for a program with him. However, injuries to both wrestlers derailed potential plans.

    — Ricky Steamboat is still recuperating from a capillary burst of the brain at his home in Charlotte, North Carolina. When the WWE Hall of Famer returns to work, he is expected to assume a role at Florida Championship Wrestling as a trainer.

    — Last week, WWE pushed Chris Jericho vs. Randy Orton as their first encounter in a singles match on Monday Night Raw. That is incorrect, as on the July 5, 2004 episode of Raw, Orton pinned Jericho following interference from Batista.

  • JR Blog: His Heart Surgery, Jericho DVD, Foley’s New Book, NXT

Jim Ross posted his latest blog entry, which you can check out at this link. Some highlights from this entry:

His Heart Surgery: “Thanks for the well wishes regarding my surprise, upcoming medical procedure this Monday afternoon where apparently a stent will be put into a heart artery. I just got this info Tuesday morning even though I knew last week while I was in Florida that my stress test showed some questionable results. Ironically, my blood work from my my annual physical and the overall condition of the structure of my heart have not been better in years and years. All my #’s of importance were the best that they had been in recent memory as a result of losing about 25 pounds, hitting the gym regularly, and adhering to a new, smarter diet.”

Mick Foley’s New Book: “I’m excited about the release of Mick Foley’s book which I have read and reviewed here months ago. I really thought Mick did an excellent job with his latest literary creation and I honestly did not think that the topic felt that compelling before reading the book. I was wrong and throughly enjoyed ‘Countdown to Lockdown’ and encourage fans to check it out. I’m likely to read Mick’s latest book again before I start writing my own some day. As a matter of fact I will probably go back and read several of Mick’s books along with a few others to prime the pump of creativity when I embark on writing my first book of what could be more than one if all goes as planned.”

Talking To Stone Cold: “Got a cool phone call from Stone Cold Steve Austin yesterday and we talked a little about my stent procedure but mostly about this weekend’s football games. Steve has always been a valued friend even in the most challenging of times since we’ve known each other. I always know that I can count on Steve Austin when the chips are down in any scenario. Steve is entertaining the prospects of a couple of kick ass scripts for upcoming films and is really building a solid body of film work.”

Chris Jericho’s New DVD: “Also received a great text from Chris Jericho early this morning who had some wonderful things to say about my broadcasting work on his new DVD which is the best WWE DVD released in years and is available now. It’s always nice to hear from one’s peers, the ‘Boys’ if you will, and I keep in touch with several even though my road days have ended by and large. I’m not sure when or if we will see Chris Jericho back in a WWE ring but having the ultra talented, 20 year vet around makes any card better and Chris can compete with any one on the roster, arguably, better than most anyone.”

Tuesday’s NXT: “Interesting night of TV on NXT. Interesting is an interesting word isn’t it? I very pleased that Cole and Mathews are handling that broadcast assigning, along, of course with our teacher, Matt Striker. As caustic as Cole is at times regarding NXT, I could see where I could be worse and that would not be a good thing. I’ve never proficient in every phase of broadcasting but I know that calling a wheelbarrow race while loaded with a small person in it likely isn’t my bottle of BBQ Sauce.”

  • Dolph Ziggler Talks About His Influences, Spirit Squad, Vickie

WWE Intercontinental champoin Dolph Ziggler was interviewed by Phil Strum of the Poughkeepsie Journal this week to promote Sunday’s Hell in a Cell pay-per-view. Below are the highlights of what Ziggler said about:

Being Satisfied With His Career: “Actually, I’m a bit of a perfectionist. I’ve worked really hard to get where I am today. On my own personal schedule, I am a little behind schedule. I think I’ve dealt with things really well in my career and I’m on track.”

Being Sent Back To FCW After The Spirit Squad Gimmick: “Of course, it’s scary any time you’re coming off the main roster. But I was less than a year into the business at the time and I knew I just needed to work harder than everybody else. I had to go back and learn more of the business. I had two or three practices where I worked with some of the best guys. Working with Shawn Michaels, Triple H and Ric Flair really sped along my learning.”

Which Wrestlers He’s Learned From: “Shawn Michaels, 10 or 15 years ago, was may favorite ever in the ring. Beating someone up, getting beat up. He was the best ever. I’ve taken a lot of advice from him. It’s incredible to watch him. He’s done it better than anyone I’ve ever seen.”

Working with Vickie Guerrero: “It’s been great. I think we make a good combination. Me and her work well together. No one gets booed more than Vickie Guerrero. People hate her and I love it. I like working with her. Hopefully, I can absorb some of that hatred. I know people don’t want to boo me because I look so good.”

His Goals in WWE: “I honestly want to be considered the greatest Intercontinental champion of all time. I want to be the world champion and I wanted to be one of the greatest sports entertainers that this business has ever seen.”

    — Regarding Matt Hardy’s present status with World Wrestling Entertainment, both sides remain at a strong stalemate.

    — WWE has signed “The Bashing Bulgarian” Miroslav to a developmental contract. Miroslav is from Bulgaria and was trained by Gangrel and Rikishi, among others, at the Knokx Pro Wrestling Academy in Burbank, California.

  • Update: RAW Rating Not As Bad As First Reported & But Still Bad

    After last week’s bowling-shoe-ugly 2.8 rating ..

The 9/27 episode of WWE’s Monday Night RAW drew a 2.7 rating (with a household rating of 2.37).

  • John Cena Heel Turn Being Discussed By WWE Officials

John Cena has been the babyface hero of WWE for the better part of a decade, but the possibility of turning Cena heel has been discussed much more seriously than in the past, according to the Pro Wrestling Torch.

Vince McMahon made it clear when the idea was previously broached that it would not even be considered due to the tremendous amount of revenue Cena draws via merchandise. While there doesn’t appear to be any firm plan in place, McMahon has since changed his tune on the subject as he is now open to listening to suggestions.

Meanwhile, this week’s issue of Figure Four Weekly adds that there is ‘strong talk’ of a turning Cena heel come WrestleMania season.

  • Update On WWE Unifying The Titles, Jericho Gets Stretchered

At times he has wanted the unification to take place within 30 days, but company officials have urged him to wait until WrestleMania XXVII.

Many within the company feel they need to place the titles on the proper people and position them strongly in order to make the unification match a major event.

Though McMahon has come off adamant about unifying the titles, no one has ruled out the possibility of the WWE Chairman having a change of heart.

    — During last night’s backstage segment with Ted DiBiase and Maryse on Raw, the WWE Diva read a note and stated in French, “La semaine dernière, t’étais à moi,” which in English translates to “Last week, you were mine.” When DiBiase told her to speak n English, she replied, “Next week, you’ll be mine.”

  • Linda McMahon Closing In On Unitesd States Senate Race

    * 50% of Likely Voters support Blumenthal
    * 45% of Likely Voters support McMahon
    * 1% of Likely Voters support some other candidate
    * 3% of Likely Voters are undecided

This is the closest the race has been since May when the New York Times detailed in an article how Blumenthal has been embellishing his military record in public statements over the years.

Meanwhile, political blog Politico.com has an article up that looks at the WWE SmackDown taping that takes place on Election Day (11/2) from McMahon’s home state of Connecticut.  With the SmackDown taping beginning at 6:30pm and voting for the Senate race not ending until 8pm that evening, it’s possible that Linda could actually lose votes from the fans attending SmackDown that night. Politico asks, “Will advertising for the event help or hurt McMahon – a positive or negative reminder of her time as WWE’s CEO? Could traffic around the 10,000-seat Arena at Harbor Yard impede voting?”

  • Paul Bearer Signs With WWE & Comments On Return

Paul Bearer posted this blog over the weekend talking about his surprise return to WWE on last week’s SmackDown:

“Where do I begin my friends? I guess we should go with the “Reader’s Digest” version, since those of you that visit here often know I can ramble on and on. Let’s just cut to the chase. About four months ago I recieved a call from the WWE creative folks asking if I had any interest in returning to the company. Of course this totally caught me off guard.

Just to step back for a moment, many are aware that my wife passed away from three battles with cancer, on January 31, 2009; and my life took some major turns following that tragic life changing event. We were married 30-years.

Since my departure from WWE at the GREAT AMERICAN BASH on June 24, 2004, I had virtually divorced myself from professional wrestling completely and returned fulltime to Funeral Service, which some may not realize that I have a degree in Mortuary Science and I am a legit licensed Funeral Director and Embalmer. I managed a small Funeral Home and Crematory here on the Gulf Coast.

In the early Spring of 2010, I decided to test the pro wrestling waters again, and began doing some independent events, autograph signings, etc., around the country to see if the passion was still there for me. Of course it was, and it will always will be. I discovered that doing these events took me away from the loneliness I was experiencing without my wife, Dianna. I was actually having fun again; and these days if it’s not fun, you can leave me out of it.

During the six-years I had been away from WWE it would be a major understatement to say that many things had changed since I signed my first contract there on December 22, 1990. We started negotiations for my return. I still had many doubts if this was what I really wanted to do. Through much prayer, and conversations with my immediate family and close friends, I decided that if all the pieces of the puzzle fell into place, that this was meant to be.

I had to fly to Pittsburgh, PA and go through major physical and mental examinations; which to my dismay, all the results came back positive. My final question to myself was… “What would my late wife Dianna want me to do?”. That answer was the easiest of all… she would say, “Get your ass back on the road!”. So….

…here I am. My contract actually became effective on August 1st, and sworn to secrecy, it was extremely hard to keep so many of my contacts from knowing what the future was going to hold in store for me.

Many have asked for the details of my contract, such as it’s length, even monetary details, and the like. Sorry you won’t get that confidential information from me. I will say that a clause in my contract allows for me to continue working independent events, if I desire, and as long as they don’t interfere with my WWE commitments. The bottomline is that I consider myself very lucky, at the tender age of 56, to get another chance at the top of our game. I am truly blessed.

My SMACKDOWN re-debut to the company was set to be taped this past Tuesday evening, in Bloomington, IL. Getting there, staying at a discreet hotel, sneeking into the venue, and hiding out in the dressing area until my time in the event came, is a story onto itself. Most of the wrestlers on the card that night didn’t even know I was there.

A new era has begun in my life. And I have you the fans who made the Percy Pringle / Paul Bearer characters to thank. Notwithstanding, those within WORLD WRESTLING ENTERTAINMENT who continue to have confidence in my old school abilities. It doesn’t matter if it lasts a week, a month, or five more years. It’s all good.

As always, I do my best to remain accessable to you folks; and I do read and answer all of my email on a timely basis. Unfortunately, you may not get the answers from me that that you may desire. I just tell it like it is with no apologies.”

  • Kofi Kingston Gets Married, TNA Knockout Has Cancer Scare

    – TNA Knockout Tara posted a blog on her Myspace a few days ago announcing that she recently had a mole removed that turned out to be cancerous. Tara, a lifelong “sun worshiper” who grew up in the desert in Southern California, is now urging her fans to be cautious of skin cancer and check themselves out:

“I went to the dermatologist because I had a bump on my hip. It turned out to be nothing. But the doctor noticed a mole near my collar bone that didn’t look quite right. He cut it off and tested it, and it turned out to be Basal Cell Carcinoma. That is the most common form of skin cancer. He cut most of it off, and next week, they are going to cut out the surrounding tissue and I should be 100% It’s it super minor, because they caught it early. So that some of my MySpace friends can possibly catch it early also, here is a link on what to look for… http://www.wikihow.com/Check-for-Skin-Cancer. Also, always wear sun block for extended periods outdoors.”

    – WWE star Kofi Kingston was married earlier this month, according to the Wrestling Observer Newsletter. Kingston was married on Saturday, September 11th and was given the weekend off by WWE.
