  • JR Blog: Orton’s Injury, Punk Gets Staples In His Head & More

Here are some highlights from what Jim Ross said in his latest blog at JRsBarBQ.com:

Randy Orton’s Injury: “Randy Orton’s apparent shoulder injury, I can’t be sure if it is a shoulder or the seriousness of the injury, really had a profound affect on the PPV. The Orton-Edge match ended as best it could by most standards. Orton, obvious and excruciating pain gutted it out to his credit. After this match the show seemed to valley somewhat until the final bout.

“If, big if, it is Randy’s shoulder, it won’t be the first time that RKO has suffered shoulder issues. Officials will know more Monday regarding Randy’s status. Hopefully this will be a deal where Orton’s off for only a brief period of time and won’t require any surgery to tighten up the shoulder. OU, now Minnesota Viking running back, Adrian Peterson had the same issues his freshman year at Oklahoma but surgery took care of his issues and he did not miss that much time…

“I sure hope that Randy Orton is going to be O.K. as losing him especially hurts. Randy hit me with a text late Sunday night and he’s not even sure what the verdict will be until tomorrow. Raw is going to be an especially compelling, two hours of live TV Monday night.”

CM Punk Getting Staples In His Head: “C.M. Punk got 13-15 staples in his head as a result of his hair raising and hair losing match to Rey Mysterio. This match essentially had to be restarted after Punk got busted open and needed medical care and restart it did! Punk resembled the Dynamite Kid and took his offense to a complete another gear. Very impressive stuff. Joey Styles Twittered that Rey gave Punk the Hulk Hogan haircut. That was just downright mean from ‘Stocky Balboa.’”

His Professional Future: “Regarding the never ending tale, my own going business saga, I feel comfortable in saying that we honestly hope to have some definitive news regarding our next, professional chapter later this week. It’s nice to have options and the time to make an educated and timely decision. I am motivated to get this business behind me especially for my dear wife’s sanity. I’m personally past helping but I can’t or won’t continue to run her through the mill with the phone calls, etc that seemingly never stop.”

  • CM Punk Gets 13 Staples In His Head After Over The Limit

Randy Orton is not the only WWE superstar who was injured at WWE’s Over The Limit pay-per-view.

During his match with Rey Mysterio, CM Punk’s head was busted open the hard way by Rey Mysterio’s knee brace – not the ringside barrier, as reported elsewhere.

Punk received 13 staples in his head to close the wound.

After getting most of his head shaved in the ring by Rey Mysterio, Punk had the rest of his head shaved backstage and was said to be in good spirits, walking around bald and bloody.

CM Punk is backstage looking into a mirror. He asks who’s the purest of them all, Gallows says Punk. He asks who the savior is for all these Detriot hooligans, and Gallows and Serena say Punk. He asks who leaves purity intact tonight, and they say Punk. Punk says he’ll have Mysterio by his side, and that he’ll be joining them tonight. Gallows looks upset, but Punk says it’s for the greater good, and that tonight, they give birth to straight edge Mysterio. Gallows hugs Punk while Punk smiles into the mirror.

    R-Truth vs. Ted DiBiase

We get a quick video recap of the short backstage segment that led to this match. R-Truth is out to the ring first doing his rapping schtick, for which he gets a nice pop.

Dibiase’s music hits, and he makes his way out to the ring with Virgil in tow, and of course wearing the Million Dollar Title.

The bell rings, and both men lock up. Truth tries for the go behind, but Dibiase catches his arm. Truth turns it around, but finds himself backed up into the corner. Truth tries to fight back, but Dibiase takes him up and stomach first down to the mat. Dibiase kicks away at Truth in the corner, but Truth comes right back. Long says he can’t do that. Drew says he will, and he’ll also fire Matt Hardy right now. Long says he won’t. McIntyre starts destroying the office. He looks over at a picture of Martin Luther King Jr. and Long pleads with him to not destroy it. McIntyre says he wants it to stay, because he’s a leader. And Long is spineless and gutless, because McIntyre is more like King than Long will ever be. We get an awkward camera shot of Long next to the picture of MLK Jr.

    SES Pledge vs. Punk’s Hair
    Rey Mysterio vs. CM Punk

We get a video package, mainly focusing on the last few weeks of this feud, and the events that have led up to this match, and this particular stipulation.

There is a barber chair, and just so carefully places bottles of Gillette shaving cream next to ringside, like, literally next to the ring.

CM Punk is out to the ring first without Serena or Gallows, because apparently all outside parties have been banned from ringside. Punk looks at the barber’s chair, and shakes his finger no, saying it won’t happen.

Punk doesn’t get any mic time in front of the crowd, as Mysterio’s music hits, and he’s out in a very yellow get-up, to a very loud pop.

Mysterio picks up the clippers, and Punk holds up his right hand for the pledge.

The bell rings, and Punk tries talking to Mysterio, trying to get him to pledge. Rey puts his hand up, and Punk attacks, laying into Mysterio with boots in the corner. Back in the ring, Mysterio tries for the 619, but Punk moves and catches Rey with a kick. Punk takes Mysterio and launches him through the ropes and outside into the barber’s chair. Mysterio eats it and knocks over the chair. The ref checks on him, then goes back into the ring. Punk has apparently been busted open somehow, and the ref has stopped the match for a trainer to get into the ring to fix Punk up. Punk looks really unhappy with this, rolling his eyes the whole time.

Mysterio is able to roll back up onto the ring apron, and Punk is back up, hitting a baseball slide to send Mysterio back to the floor. Punk launches Mysterio into one barricade, then another, and then hits a vicious suplex on the outside.

Back in the ring, Punk goes for the cover but only gets two. Punk locks in a submission, focusing on Mysterio’s neck, wrapping his legs around Mysterio’s head and neck. Mysterio is able to kick his way out of the submission, and he gets up to his feet where he hits a couple more kicks and scores a quick roll up. Punk comes back with a huge lariat out of nowhere that’s good for a two count.

Punk hits Mysterio with a series of falling fist drops, shouting out parts of the Straight Edge Society pledge, before picking Mysterio back up and kicking away at him. Punk charges Mysterio in the corner, and Rey’s able to counter with a sunset flip powerbomb, but Punk kicks out at two. Both men are on their knees where they trade punches and kicks. He gets to his feet, and goes for the G2S, but Mysterio fights out, almost hitting a hurricarana. Punk stops him and powerbombs him into the corner. Punk goes to the top and hits a leaping bulldog, that’s good for two.

Mysterio grabs the clippers, and even though Punk tries to fight, Mysterio kicks at Punk’s head before using the clippers to shave Punk’s head Punk is bleeding pretty profusely and thankfully there are no trainers in site. Mysterio is taking out big clumps of Punk’s hair, and Punk is just begging him to stop.

As in all hair matches, Mysterio leaves Punk humiliated, with big patches of his hair gone, but other’s still remaining. Mysterio has big handfuls of Punk’s hair, which he holds up. Mysterio looks under the ring, but he doesn’t do anything before walking to the back. Serena runs over with a towel to cover up Punk’s head.

Rey runs back down to the ring with a mirror in his hand and he shows Punk his reflection. Punk looks furious as he kicks away at Mysterio.

Chris Jericho is out next, and he makes his way down to the ringside area to join his partner.

Miz and Kidd will be starting things out tonight. Miz doesn’t allow the lock up as he stomps away at Kidd instead before burying his knee in Kidd’s back. Kidd hits a snap mare and follows it up with a couple of ridiculous stiff kicks before tagging in Smith, and helping him get Miz up for a huge stalling suplex. After about 20 seconds, Smith drops him and he tries for the cover but Miz kicks out. Smith kicks Miz to the outside, and Jericho joins him when Smith back body drops him to the outside. Smith picks Kidd up in a gorilla press and slams him to the outside on top of Jericho and Miz. Batista stands over Cena while the trainer works on him. When it’s all over, Batista picks up Cena, and sends him over the barricade and out into the crowd. Batista takes Cena out, and up into the stands, up the stairs. Batista has Cena in a head lock, and he takes him to the top of the stands, where he slams him into a wall. They fight out, and up another set of stairs. Batista grabs the mic and tells Cena to quit, or he’ll go over the railing of the stairs. The ref asks Cena, but Cena still says no. Batista picks Cena up, and he gets Cena in position for the Batista bomb, but Cena fights out of it and pounds on Batista. Cena sends Batista over the railing, where he hangs on, but Cena hits him with a couple of rights, and Batista falls back into a bunch of security guards. The ref asks Batista, and he screams no.

Cena chases Batista back down the stairs and toward the fans in the ringside area. Cena hits Batista with a right and he falls down the last few stairs. Cena hits Batista with a couple of rights, and they fight back to the entrance ramp, where Cena hits Batista with another series of rights. Batista grabs a chair from somewhere, and he hits Cena in the ribs before wailing on his back. Batista goes back to work on the ribs and back of Cena, just whacking him repeatedly with the chair. The referee asks Cena, but Cena says no. Another big chair shot from Batista, and Batista gets into one of the cars on the stage, that conveniently has the keys in it (really?). Batista throws it into reverse, and he tries to back over Cena, running into the stage lights.

Batista gets out of the car, but Cena is up and he pulls Batista out of the car. He slams Batista head first repeatedly into the car, before picking him up, and laying him out with an AA on the hood of the car. The referee asks, but Batista does not quit. Cena says he was really hoping he would say that. Cena grabs Batista, and they go up to the top of the car, where Cena gets Batista in AA position. Batista flails his arms, and quits. Cena still hits the AA off the top of the car, sending Batista through the entrance ramp.

Winner and STILL WWE Champion: John Cena

The Pay Per View ends with Cena standing triumphantly with his title at the top of the entrance ramp. Out of nowhere, Sheamus hits him from behind. Sheamus stands over Cena, and rips off his shirt, and we fade to black.

    – WWE champion John Cena commented on Twitter about WWE’s decision to release Carlito this week:

“I am sad to hear the wwe has decided to release Carlito. I always thought he could, and should have accomplished more than he did. I wish him the best.”

    – WWE Hall of Famer also commented on Carlito’s release in his latest blog at JRsBarBQ.com. Ross wrote:

“I was disappointed to hear of Carlito being released from WWE for apparent wellness issues. I don’t know all the details of this situation by any means but it seems apparent WWE felt that Carlito needed some help and Carlito didn’t agree. It’s back to the old adage that if one can’t solve a problem one has no choice but to eliminate it. I’m one that certainly believes that Carlito has the ability to be a main event level performer but no one’s professional life should ever be prioritized over their personal life and I sincerely hope that Carlito adjusts to these recent challenges and takes the necessary steps to put these negative issues behind him.”

  • Carlito Arrived To Monday’s Raw Taping “Unfit To Perform”

    (source: www.f4wonline.com)

As announced yesterday, Carlito — real name Carlos Colón — was released from his WWE contract due to his first violation of the company’s Wellness Program and subsequent refusal to enter a rehabilitation facility.

Company sources indicate Colón did not actually fail a drug test. Rather, management felt he was unfit to perform after arriving to the Air Canada Centre on Monday for the evening’s Raw taping. He was told he needed to go to rehab, but refused, resulting in his termination from the company.

As the story goes, Carlito denied he had a problem, forcing WWE to pull the trigger on his release.

Colón, who had been under contract to WWE since 2004, developed a reputation of being a talented performer whose lack of motivation prevented him from rising above mid-card status. For years, he was rumored to have been on the verge of leaving the company due to frustration over the direction of his character.

The Puerto Rican native was most recently used as a mentor to NXT Rookie Michael Tarver, who was ousted in the first round of eliminations. He had also teamed up once again with brother Primo, helping Ted DiBiase beat-down R-Truth on last week’s Raw.

When Raw drops by Charlotte in June 14, the show will be guest-hosted by Mark Feuerstein, who stars in USA’s hit medical drama Royal Pains.

  • Cena Addresses Carlito’s Release, Reason For R-Truth’s Absence

    — John Cena said today on his Twitter account that he was “sad to hear” about Carlito’s release from WWE. WWE announced yesterday that he was released due to a violation of the company’s drug testing program and subsequent refusal to attend a rehabilitation facility.

“I am sad to hear WWE has decided to release Carlito,” Cena wrote on Twitter. “I always thought he could, and should have accomplished more than he did. I wish him the best.”

Jim Ross also addressed Carlito’s release, writing on Twitter: “Too bad to hear Carlito got released 4 wellness issues. Talented young man. Hope he gets back on track. The ball’s n his court. Pulling 4 him.”

  • WWE Stars Reportedly Refusing To Work With Drew McIntyre

Within WWE, Drew McIntyre isn’t the most popular wrestler among certain circles. The Intercontinental Champion been described as “a head case” and some veteran wrestlers have made it known they don’t want to work with him until he improves his in-ring ability.

Fans weren’t the only ones questioning whether the angle temporarily stripping him of the Intercontinental title was done as a result of a drug testing violation. Although he doesn’t have the reputation of being a party guy, there was still a lot of speculation within the organization that a legit suspension may have been the cause. Ultimately, though, it was revealed as nothing more than a storyline.

Working With Virgil on RAW: “That was really cool,” DiBiase said. “It was a big surprise and I don’t think anyone expected it. Me walking out there and then just turning around with a smile and there’s Virgil. The guy who used to pick me up from school. The guy I used to monkey around with and jump on. I guess he’s kind of gotten smaller in his older age, but I used to grab onto his arms –he had these huge pipes, you know, these 24-inch arms back in the day and he’d just lift me up off the ground. I’d make him do it all the time. I used to bug the crap out of that guy. And now he’s carrying around the belt, pulling the ropes down, opening doors and carrying my bags. It’s a great feeling.”

Sunday Being His First Singles PPV Match: “It feels really good. I had a good run with Cody Rhodes and I wish him all the best on Smackdown. We had a great tag team and I learned a lot and it was fine while it lasted, but it was time. It’s great to be on my own and forging my own career now. I’m excited.”

Living In His Father’s Shadow: “No, I’m not worried at all. My dad was who he was and I am who I am. This is just me being me. Life gives you lemons and you make lemonade. This is who I am. I’m a DiBiase. I didn’t ask for it, but this is who I’ll be. The biggest differences between me and my dad is, well, A: I think I’m more talented than he was and B; I’m definitely better looking than my dad was. And on top of that, I’m a movie star. He never made a movie so I’ve got one up on him already. So, I’m not worried because I think my actions will speak louder than words and I’ll start this Sunday, at Over the Limit, when I beat R-Truth.”

  • JR Blog: New RAW GM, His WWE Status, Daniel Bryan

WWE Hall of Famer Jim Ross has updated his blog, which you can read in its entirety at JRsBarBQ.com. Some highlights of what JR said about:

Miami Wants WrestleMania: “Miami is among many cities being smart and working hard to romance WWE in hopes of hosting Wrestlemania 28 in 2012. The stadium in Miami is big time, I went to the OU-Miami college football game there last year, but how does one address tropical rain issues that might wreck havoc on WWE’s biggest event of the year? This is far, far from my call but if it were I’m sticking with a domed stadium. Sorry, South Florida.”

Read More: Miami’s Sports Commissioner Pushing For WrestleMania 2012

Daniel Bryan’s NXT Promo: “Amazing discussion virtually every where one looks on the net about the Daniel Bryan/Michael Cole dust up on NXT Tuesday night. Honesty, I feel that it helped both individual’s persona’s and will likely encourage fans to tune in again to see the follow up on the matter. I’m not so sure that I wouldn’t have something occur Sunday in Detroit at the PPV to add a little fuel to the fire and if not there on Monday Night Raw in Toledo for sure. The end result is to first create awareness for the wrestler and then to further develop Cole’s on air persona.”

New RAW GM: “Yes, Raw is going to name a new GM this Monday night and even though my name has been one of many under internet consideration I can assure you that I have no plans whatsoever to be in Toledo Monday but rather will be watching Raw, as usual, in my La-Z-Boy in my living room in Norman. I hear by nominate US Champion Bret Hart for the task. Or Chelsea Handler. Or Joey Styles. Or The Fink.”

JR’s WWE Status: “No…there is a misconception that I am ‘gone’ from WWE and that is not accurate. I am an employee in good standing, over 17 years, with the company and within a few days my new job description, etc will be established. At that point I can either commit and go kick ass in a new arena or I can say no thank you. I actually do have many interests within the biz that interest me other than announcing although that is my favorite thing to do professionally. Finding another Stone Cold or Rock is intriguing and challenging, for example. I am a major proponent of the developmental system within the business and feel it is the life blood for the long term future of wrestling. Even at 58, one finds it hard to leave ‘the nest’ especially if one helps build the nest.”

  • Update On Batista vs. Cena, More On Cena As WWE Champion

    source: Wrestling Observer Newsletter

    — Batista’s match with John Cena at Over The Limit was originally scheduled to be a “Loser Leaves WWE” match, but changed to an “I Quit” match in large part as a result of TNA holding the very same bout in Tara vs. Madison Rayne this past Sunday at Sacrifice. Company officials also felt that a “Loser Leaves WWE” match wouldn’t be good in case Batista decided to return sooner than expected.

Regarding Batista’s future with WWE, it is being kept a secret from almost everyone in the organization.

    — To correct a story from last week, John Cena only passed 1,000 days as champion if you include his two World Heavyweight title runs with his WWE title runs. As of today, Cena sits at 915 days as WWE Champion and 105 days as World Heavyweight Champion. He would be in sixth place on the all-time list, not fifth, as Triple H has 1,148 days when both titles are included. Including both titles, Cena will pass Pedro Morales into fifth place on May 27. Morales held the WWE title for 1027 days.

    — Creative writer Ed Koskey was the straight man in the mock Geico commercials promoting WWEShop.com on Monday’s Raw.

  • Bartie Professes Innocence Over Sexual Harassment Allegations

    (source: Wrestling Observer Newsletter)

As reported earlier, WWE denied last week a report from wrestling author Irv Muchnick that the company fired general counsel Jared Bartie over a sexual harassment claim. Rather, WWE stated Bartie parted from the company amicably. It should be noted that WWE did not actually deny the sexual harassment claim.

In an update on Bartie’s situation, the story going around is that he was in fact not fired, as WWE stated. He was said to be upset when WWE suspended him, professing his innocence in the matter and feeling they were taking someone’s word that wasn’t true. At that point, both sides agreed to part ways.

Bartie was suspended after a female co-worker from the company’s sales department accused him of making unwanted advances on her at a WrestleMania XXVI after-party in late March. However, the victim in question was later fired after she was reportedly caught performing an oral sex with a subordinate male employee inside the company’s offices during work hours. The male employee was also fired.

  • Russo Wants Jim Ross In TNA, JR Comments On Going To TNA

    – One of the people in TNA pushing the hardest to bring in Jim Ross is Vince Russo, reports the Wrestling Observer Newsletter.  Russo is telling people that he is looking to leave the creative team and work on other areas of the company’s operations.

    — Jim Ross answered another round of reader questions at JRsBarBQ.com and responded to a fan who said he would be an “invaluable piece of the puzzle” in TNA, both in front of the camera and behind the scenes.  JR responded with the following:

“I don’t know what I’m going to be broadcasting in the future but I don’t plan on getting into to any thing whereby I can’t be myself and that doesn’t mean I’m going to yell for the duration of the show but passion is passion and it’s sorely lacking in many areas of broadcasting these days. The old school guys had passion which is why that are always mentioned in a variety of genres.”
