  • Miz Defends Why He’s Qualified To Coach Daniel Bryan On NXT

WWE United States & Unified tag champion The Miz has posted a message on his WWE Universe page (link) responding to critics who say he’s not qualified to mentor Daniel Bryan (formerly Bryan Danielson) on the new WWE NXT show. Bryan is an accomplished wrestler who has had great matches for many years all over the world.

The Miz wrote, “It’s come to my knowledge that some members of the WWE Universe think they know everything about WWE and what it takes to be a WWE Superstar. They think that if a guy does well in the independent minor leagues, then all of a sudden he should be in the WWE. They think that if a guy can main event in front of a hundred people at a bingo hall, then he’s ready to main event at WrestleMania. Just because fans on the Internet say you’re ready doesn’t mean you really are.”

Bryan is a great in-ring worker, but the Miz says he’ll go nowhere without learning how to be a star – a quality he’s been honing for years. “My job is to make Daniel Bryan a star in the WWE,” Miz said. “Let’s face it, if you look at a picture of him right now, do you think STAR? No, Daniel Bryan looks like my accountant … ordinary and bland.”

He continued, Maybe if he had The Miz’s charisma and look, he would have been in the WWE by now. Don’t hate on me because it didn’t take me a decade to get a WWE contract and go down in WWE history to be the first Superstar to win the United States Title and Unified Tag Team Titles.”

Miz give Bryan some credit by saying he “has all the talent in the world,” but said Bryan has a long road ahead and it will be the Miz’ job to unlock his true potential.

  • HBK Talks About His WM Matches With Austin, Hart, Ramon

In the new 2010 WrestleMania XXVI Almanac magazine, WWE superstar Shawn Michaels says he has regrets about his WrestleMania 14 match with Stone Cold Steve Austin. At the time, Michaels’ back was in terrible shape and his career was thought to be over. He was also an emotional wreck and admits he was not an easy guy to get along with in the WWE locker room. When asked if he has any regrets in his career, Michael said:

“The one I always come back to is my match against Steve Austin at WrestleMania 14. I just wasn’t in a great place physically or emotionally. That one could have been so much more. Steve didn’t get me at my best. And that’s unfortunate, because it was the last time I got to work with him. Steve went on to such great things afterward, and I had an opportunity to make that match so much more.”

Michaels also looks back at his matches with Bret Hart during the mid-90’s and thinks the two legends could have accomplished a lot more together if not for their personal differences:

“I will say that I wish I had been in a better place in my life with Bret. Our matches were phenomenal, but I shudder to think what he and I could have accomplished had we gotten along.”

Michaels also named his classic ladder match with Razor Ramon frmo WrestleMania as high on his list of all-time great WrestleMania matches:

“Over the years, the ladder itself has become the central figure of that particular stipulation, but in our situation, it served as a backdrop for something much bigger,” Michaels said. “We were two guys claiming rightful ownership of those titles, and the ladder was just there as a way for us to prove who was the best. Now, the ladder is the primary element, and these matches are often about what the contestants can do with it.”

  • Monday’s Raw Rating, Dreamer Discusses The End Of ECW

    — Last night’s episode of Raw drew a 3.4 cable rating with 4.9 million viewers, down 7.2 percent compared to 5.34 million viewers last week. The show scored hours of 3.29 and 3.5.

The last time an entire episode of Raw averaged fewer than 5.00 million viewers was on Dec. 21.

    — Tommy Dreamer posted a blog on the WWE Universe site concerning the end of ECW, specifically noting how the wrestlers tried to make WWE’s version work, but over-riding factors made its demise inevitable.

“No matter how hard we all worked, it could never be what it was, for so many reasons, I do not want to get into,” Dreamer wrote.

He then compared WWE’s version of ECW to the XFL, which folded after one season.

“Well lets look at what the world likes to call the WWE’s greatest blunder the XFL. It looked like a great idea on paper. It had great network support but after the first week and great ratings, those ratings started to fall. Why? I feel the level of play. Many die hard football fans realized that there was a reason the players were not in the NFL. Maybe they just did not belong.”

  • Steve Austin Interview: Wrestling Hogan, His Favorite WM Match

In an interview with WWE Magazine’s special 2010 WrestleMania 26 Almanac, WWE Hall of Famer “Stone Cold” Steve Austin says he still has no interest in fighting Hulk Hogan, despite WWE’s repeated attempts to make the match happen at the past few WrestleManias.

“After I retired, for two or three years, they asked me, ‘Do you want to wrestle Hogan this year? Do you want to wrestle Hogan? And the answer is: No, I don’t. “I don’t care to wrestle Hulk Hogan. I don’t think it would live up to fans’s expectations.”

Austin says his match with Dwayne “The Rock” Dwayne Johnson at WrestleMania 19 in 2003 was his “retirement match.” Austin isn’t looking for one last rematch, because he doesn’t think it could be as good as their past classics.

“That was my last match, and I’m not looking for a re-match. I don’t it would be as good as what we’ve done before because we’ve both been out of the ring for some time. Could it be done? Of course. But there’s no use talking about it. … I definitely do not have any interest in delivering anything that would be second-best to what I’ve done before.”

When asked about his favorite WrestleMania match, Austin his WrestleMania 17 main event match against The Rock, but admits that turning heel and aligning himself with Mr. McMahon that night was a bad idea looking back.

“Looking back, it wasn’t the best thing we ever did,” Austin said. “Now, if I could go back, as soon as that match ended, when Vince walked up to me, I would have shaken his hand and said, ‘Watch the Stunner,’ and dropped him right there in the middle of the ring. That’s hindsight being 20/20!”
