Kenny Omega has been out of action for some time, but it was recently confirmed that he would be returning to the ring for Wrestle Dynasty in early 2025 against Gabe Kidd.
Whilst that is big news for the joint AEW/NJPW card in just over 6 weeks, AEW is very much in need of a kickstart to their own programming right now, with the ratings for Dynamite having sitting around the 600,000 mark for some time.
The easiest way in the short term to get the interest back up in the product is to bring the former AEW and IWGP Heavyweight Champion back into the fold as quickly as possible. While from a storytelling perspective you would probably consider keeping him out of the way of the Death Riders story to help elevate the likes of Orange Cassidy, Daniel Garcia and Mark Briscoe further, the product NEEDS something like ‘The Cleaner’ returning right now.

Kenny Omega vs Jon Moxley is the match for World’s End
Getting Kenny back in time to set up a main event for World’s End against Jon Moxley makes all the sense in the world. Whilst you would probably expect Moxley to keep the belt until later in 2025, having one of the biggest stars that is currently sat on the bench in Omega headlining their final PPV of the year could help All Elite Wrestling move into next year.
The end goal here is likely going to be The Elite vs Death Riders for control of AEW, so Omega will be back alongside The Young Bucks at some point. Even if the plan originally was to keep Kenny away from Death Riders for a few more months, jumpstarting that feud with one of the genuine originals of the company could spark the intrigue that the product is crying out for right now.
Finishing Full Gear with a standoff between Omega and Moxley has the potential to draw a decent amount of viewers to Dynamite this week, so it needs to happen.
