Anthony Ogogo

All Elite Wrestling has signed former Olympic boxer Anthony Ogogo. Cody Rhodes is calling the new signing AEW’s first real developmental project. Cody was in attendance at Southside Wrestling’s 9th Anniversary show in Stevenage, Hertfordshire, England this weekend where Ogogo made an appearance in a segment with MJF.

Ogogo won a bronze medal in the middleweight division at the 2012 Olympics in London, England. He has a pro record of 11-1.

“I’m thrilled about this signing,” Cody Tweeted. “Anthony will be our first developmental project as a company. For those who followed his boxing career and saw his Olympic acumen, you’ll be happy to see he’s now applying that passion and work-ethic to pro-wrestling training. Welcome Anthony!”

Anthony Ogogo Signs With AEW

Ogogo officially retired from boxing this March, although he had not fought since 2016. His last fight was the only loss of his professional career. He dropped a fight to Craig Cunningham for the vacant WBC International middleweight title.

“I’ve been through a lot in my career, I’ve had 17 operations and suffered every pain imaginable. I’ve won, lost, cried and hurt. But if you were to ask me would I do it again? In a heartbeat. I love this game,” Ogogo said upon his retirement.

“I’m seriously considering becoming a professional wrestler, I may join one of the big companies and do some wrestling because it has always been something I’ve enjoyed,” Ogogo said to the Eastern Daily Press this summer.
