Bryan Danielson: “It’s 50/50 If I’ll Ever Wrestle Again”

Bryan Danielson says he’s doing everything he can to avoid undergoing neck surgery, but his ongoing health challenges put his in-ring future in serious jeopardy.

Known for his resilience and passion, the American Dragon shared insights into the state of his neck, his reluctance to undergo surgery, and the uncertainty surrounding his wrestling career. Despite these challenges, he expressed gratitude for his storied journey, offering a reflective perspective that resonates with fans and peers alike.

At Monday’s AEW All In Texas Countdown to On Sale event at Globe Life Field, Bryan spoke with Denise Salcedo admitted, “My neck is not great.” He explained that it’s affecting his sleep and overall comfort.

When asked about surgery, he revealed his reluctance, stating, “I’m trying to avoid it. Surgery is a last resort, not a first resort.” He mentioned trying alternative methods before considering going under the knife. Regarding an in-ring return, he candidly remarked,

“If I had to guess right now, I’d say it’s 50/50 if I’ll ever wrestle again.”

He emphasized that he’s at peace with this uncertainty and appreciates the time he has already spent in the ring.

Family and Personal Life:

Reflecting on having his family present at AEW All In, he shared the emotional side, saying, “I was looking over constantly to check on them,” and mentioning how his daughter called it the best day of her life despite seeing him bleed in the ring.

Bryan stressed he won’t push his children to follow in his footsteps, explaining, “What I want for them is to find something they love as much as I’ve loved wrestling.”

Reflections on Wrestling Venues and Career Highlights:

He expressed equal appreciation for both large arenas and intimate venues: “I loved wrestling in big stadiums… but I also loved those small, intimate atmospheres.”

Touching on AEW All In, he considered it a fairy-tale moment, standing atop the ropes, championship in hand, with his family and friends present. He called it “really, really special and something I’ll cherish for the rest of my life.”

Match with Will Ospreay and Current AEW Talent:

Will Ospreay vs. Bryan Danielson

Speaking highly of Will Ospreay, Bryan praised him as one of the best he’s ever faced. “He’s one of the best guys I’ve ever been in the ring with.” He also lauded the depth of talent in AEW, mentioning Swerve Strickland and Kenny Omega as top-tier performers.

AEW’s Expansion and Streaming on Max:

Bryan expressed excitement about AEW’s upcoming broadcast on the Max streaming service. “Max is huge… so many people I know don’t have cable. It’s a real chance to get more people to watch AEW.” He noted that this move could broaden the audience significantly.

Big Boom A.J. Confirms AEW Return, Sets Sights On All In: Texas

Big Boom A.J. of the Costco Guys is eager to get back in the ring and plans to be a part of AEW’s programming once again later this month. A.J. suffered a foot injury during his Full Gear match with QT Marshall which has kept the viral TikTok star on the shelf ever since. Speaking at the All In: Texas tickets launch event, A.J. shared an exciting update.

“This cast will be off in about two weeks. I’ll be back in the ring about four weeks after that. We will see everyone up at the Hammerstein Ballroom.”

AEW will host Collision from the Hammerstein Ballroom on Saturday, December 21. The next night, the promotion will tape an episode of AEW Dynamite and AEW Rampage. Looking to 2025, A.J. also shared that he and his family are coming to All In: Texas.

“Texas, AJ, Big Justice, we will be here at All In, and we’re coming to bring the boom!”

A.J. earned praise for his match at Full Gear, his first professional match in close to two decades. The match also showed AEW’s growing appeal in the mainstream, as A.J. and his viral family brought their massive fanbase to Tony Khan’s promotion.

AEW All In: Texas will take place on Saturday, July 12, with tickets now on sale. The show will be AEW’s first All In event in the United States, as well as the promotion’s first pay-per-view in the Lone Star state. Bryan Danielson Shares All In: Texas Role Amid In-Ring Uncertainty

Bryan Danielson will be present for AEW All In: Texas, though questions remain as to whether the former World Champion will be in action. This week, Danielson was in the Lone Star state as part of the All In: Texas tickets launch event and addressed his role for the show.

“As for my participation at All In, I don’t know what that looks like. I don’t know if I’ll be able to wrestle at that point. I don’t know if I’ll be able to wrestle again to be quite honest. But there’s one thing that I can tell you for certain: I will be here. There is nothing that you can do to make me miss All In.”

Danielson got “chills” walking into Globe Life Field, which will play host to All In: Texas on July 12. The show will be AEW’s first All In pay-per-view in the United States as well as the promotion’s first pay-per-view in Texas.

Danielson hasn’t competed since AEW WrestleDream, which marked the end of his full-time career, and his reign as AEW World Champion. The American Dragon has been open about his medical issues and believes he will require neck surgery before 2024 is over.

Bryan Danielson’s Neck ‘Feels Like A Bobblehead’ As Surgery Awaits

As one of AEW’s top stars, it’d certainly be fitting for Danielson to be a part of All In, even if a match isn’t in the cards for the former World Champion. Stay tuned to SEScoops for the latest on Bryan Danielson as the veteran continues to navigate this chapter of his career.

Rey Fenix Backs ‘Most Accurate’ Report Of “Huge Injustice” in AEW

Questions remain as to Rey Fenix’s relationship with AEW, but the masked star provided some clarity on his current situation this week. After Dr. Chris Featherstone of Sportskeeda shared the following information on X, Fenix endorsed it as the most accurate report about his situation so far.

“The alleged excuse that Tony Khan found out about Lucha Brothers [being] in talks with WWE is ‘fake news,’ and the real reason [will be] revealed.”

– There is a “real story” behind the situation with Rey Fenix, which is a “huge injustice.”

– Expect the Lucha Brothers to go more in-depth about their time in AEW when they are free and clear to do so, and “when they do, [it] is going to be ugly.”

Fenix replied twice to Featherstone’s tweet. While he’s contractually unable to speak freely about his situation with AEW, he endorsed Featherstone’s report is the most accurate take on what’s transpired and what’s to come.

https://twitter.com/ReyFenixMx/status/1865989781811020078

Fenix’s latest posts are the latest in a trend of reports about his relationship with AEW. It has been reported that AEW has added injury time to Fenix’s contract, prohibiting him from leaving the company with Penta, who recently returned to Lucha Libre AAA.

Rey Fenix recently spoke of working under “inhumane treatment” with a post many took as a nod to his time with AEW. While it’s unclear when, if ever, fans will see Rey Fenix in an AEW ring again, the former International Champion will appear for House of Glory later this month.

Stay tuned to SEScoops for the latest on Rey Fenix as he is ready to tell his side of what’s been going on with AEW when the time is right.

Chris Jericho Visits Childhood Street in Winnipeg Named After Him

Chris Jericho has made a name for himself in both pro-wrestling and music and now the AEW star has visited the street that bears his name. On Instagram, Jericho shared footage from his native Winnipeg, saying it was “cool” that a road had been named in his honor. The road holds extra significance for the first-ever AEW World Champion, who used to live and deliver newspapers on the street now named after him.

When not named after the wrestling legend, the street is called Wordsworth Way and has already appeared in Jericho’s entertainment endeavors. The street received its own track on Fozzy’s album Judas, with Jericho himself writing the lyrics for the track. The album was released in October 2017 and Jericho would use the titular track in New Japan and AEW.

Jericho is currently visiting Winnipeg as part of a ‘Jericho History’ tour hosted on his social media channels. Chris, who these days resides in Florida like several wrestlers, is back in Canada to celebrate the birthday of his father, NHL legend Ted Irvine.

When not giving history lessons in Winnipeg, Jericho can be found appearing for AEW and is the reigning Ring of Honor World Champion. Jericho will defend against Matt Cardona later this month at ROH Final Battle inside the legendary Hammerstein Ballroom in New York City. Stay tuned to SEScoops for the latest on Chris Jericho and his adventures both in and out of the squared circle.

Jake Hager: Tony Khan Didn’t Want Me In AEW

Jake Hager spent years as part of AEW, despite the company’s owner Tony Khan allegedly not wanting him in the promotion in the first place. Speaking to Going Ringside, Hager alleged that it was only due to Chris Jericho that he was a part of the promotion.

“Chris Jericho is the greatest of all time… Tony didn’t want me there, but Chris said he wanted me there, and it was awesome.”

Hager debuted in AEW on the inaugural episode of Dynamite in October 2019, immediately aligning with Jericho as part of the Inner Circle. Hager stayed with the company until May of this year when he opted not to re-sign with the company. His final TV appearance was on the February 21, 2024, edition of Rampage, where he lost to Roderick Strong.

Jake Hager Exits AEW After Declining New Contract

Hager’s claim that Khan didn’t want him is not the first bold claim made by the former WWE World Heavyweight Champion. Last month, Hager claimed that Khan had threatened his job over his support for Donald Trump. Hager, who has also called Khan a communist, has yet to provide hard evidence for any of his claims against the AEW President.

Hager has competed a handful of times since parting ways with AEW, and fans shouldn’t expect him to work with Tony Khan again. Stay tuned to SEScoops for the latest on Jake Hager as the All-Elite alum continues to make his views clear out of the ring.

Penta El Zero Miedo Returns to AAA Amid Reported AEW Exit

Penta El Zero Miedo has made his dramatic return to AAA, mere days after it was reported that his time with AEW had come to an end. Penta appeared at the latest tapings of AAA Lucha Libre, earning a raucous ovation and “Cero Miedo” chant from the fans in attendance.

Penta’s return to AAA comes after the former AEW World Tag & Trios Champion was removed from AEW’s roster website. It was reported earlier this month that Penta’s AEW contract has expired, making the 39-year-old wrestler a free agent. Penta’s brother Rey Fenix will reportedly remain with AEW through 2025 after injury time was added to his contract.

Rey Fenix: No-One Stays In A Place Where They Received Inhumane Treatment

Penta debuted in AAA in September 2010, and would remain with the promotion until 2017, citing unhappiness and feeling held back as reasons behind his exit. The following year, Penta returned and would continue to compete sporadically for AAA until 2023. He is a three-time World Tag Team Champion, one-time Mixed Tag Team Champion, and one-time AAA Latin American Champion.

Rey Fenix: No-One Stays In A Place Where They Received Inhumane Treatment

Rey Fenix believes that no one should suffer from “inhumane treatment” as questions continue about his relationship with AEW. On X, Fenix made his point.

https://twitter.com/ReyFenixMx/status/1865514283037299154

When a fan said it was wrong that AEW isn’t using Fenix, the masked wrestler said there would come a time when he would speak the truth.

While Fenix did not reference AEW by name in his post, many fans in the comments saw the post as in reference to the All-Elite promotion. In August, it was reported that Fenix and Penta were expected to leave AEW, and when Fenix withdrew from an independent event, many saw it as a sign he’d already joined WWE.

Rey Fenix Teases New Chapter as Lucha Bros. Future Remains Uncertain

Fenix has been missing from AEW programming since the July 20, edition of AEW Collison. AEW has reportedly added injury time to his contract, keeping him with the promotion until 2025. Penta meanwhile has recently entered free agency.

While it’s unclear when, if ever, fans will see Rey Fenix in an AEW ring again, the former International Champion will appear for House of Glory later this month. Stay tuned to SEScoops for the latest on Rey Fenix as he is ready to tell all about the “inhumane treatment” he’s experienced.

Matt Cardona Appears On AEW Rampage As ROH Title Match Looms

‘Indy God’ Matt Cardona made a surprise appearance on AEW Rampage this week ahead of his ROH World Championship showdown with Chris Jericho. In the ring, Jericho declared himself the ‘King of New York’ and dared Cardona, who confronted him on the latest ROH on HonorClub, to meet him face-to-face.

Cardona arrived on the scene, marking his AEW Rampage debut, and spoke of “busting my ass for this opportunity” against the ROH World Champion. Cardona added that he would prove himself by beating Jericho, who retorted by saying “You might be a bigger star now, but you’re still just Zack.”

Jericho slapped Cardona, sparking a brawl that saw Bryan Keith blindside the former Long Island Iced-Z. Jericho whipped his upcoming challenger with the ROH World Title while Keith delivered a shot with a belt buckle.

Cardona and Jericho will collide at ROH Final Battle, which will take place on December 20, from the Hammerstein Ballroom in New York City. Stay tuned to SEScoops for the latest from ROH Final Battle including breaking news and live results as Matt Cardona seeks to add another championship to his resume.

AEW All In Texas Ticket Sales Are Off to a Slow Start

AEW officially announced All In: Texas a few months ago, which is set to take place at Globe Life Field in Arlington, Texas. The event, scheduled for next year, will mark AEW’s first pay-per-view in Texas and the first professional wrestling event ever held at this iconic venue. Tickets for the general public go on sale Monday, December 9, at 10 AM CT via Ticketmaster.com and AEWTix.com, following a pre-sale earlier this week.

While the announcement has generated buzz, early ticket sales have been modest. According to Dave Meltzer in the latest edition of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, the pre-sale tickets sold were in the range of 2,000 to 3,000. This figure has sparked concerns about fan momentum, as AEW hasn’t achieved a 10,000-ticket first-day sale in several years. Declining television ratings, pay-per-view buys, and live attendance have contributed to the company’s broader challenges in maintaining audience engagement.

A stadium event of this scale presents unique challenges for AEW, and Globe Life Field, with a capacity far exceeding traditional wrestling venues, represents an ambitious undertaking. Time will tell if AEW can build sufficient excitement to fill the stadium.

Additionally, AEW has confirmed that its Worlds End 2024 pay-per-view event will take place on December 28, 2024, at the Addition Financial Arena in Orlando, Florida, rounding out its schedule with another highly anticipated show.

Ricky Starks Books Another Indy Appearance After GCW Debacle

Ricky Starks is set to return to make another independent appearance in January, this time for House of Glory (HOG) Wrestling. The AEW star, who has been on hiatus from AEW programming since March, will appear at HOG’s Final Warning event on January 25. The show will stream live on TrillerTV+ at 6 p.m. ET and will take place in New York City.

Starks will face Mike Santana in House of Glory debut on January 17th in Chicago. HOG announced Starks’ debut on Twitter.

This marks Starks’ first booking with the New York-based promotion and a rare independent wrestling appearance during his AEW hiatus.

Starks’ GCW Exit

The announcement comes shortly after news broke that Starks would no longer be appearing for Game Changer Wrestling (GCW), despite having been set for multiple upcoming events. Starks made his GCW debut last month, cutting a promo and engaging in an angle with Jimmy Lloyd. However, AEW subsequently pulled Starks from the following GCW shows:

  • December 14 in Los Angeles
  • December 28 in Seattle (unannounced match)
  • January 19 at the Hammerstein Ballroom (unannounced match)

The decision reportedly stems from critical comments made by GCW’s Effy about AEW President Tony Khan and his father, Shad Khan, on a recent podcast. While Effy’s statements have not been fully detailed, they appear to have led AEW to sever ties between Starks and GCW.

Despite this, Starks remains eligible to take other independent bookings, as evidenced by his scheduled appearance for HOG in January.

Taz Shows Rapid Recovery After Knee Replacement Surgery

Wrestling icon Taz, famously known as “The Human Suplex Machine,” is making impressive strides in his recovery following total knee replacement surgery. The veteran took to social media on December 4 to update fans about his progress, highlighting his dedication to physical therapy and the rapid improvement in his knee.

Taz’s journey to recovery began after stepping away from his role as an announcer for All Elite Wrestling (AEW) earlier this year. His last AEW appearance coincided with his son, Hook, retiring the FTW Championship at AEW Dynamite: Grand Slam. Shortly after, Taz announced his plans for surgery, which took place on October 8.

Reflecting on the procedure, Taz shared that the operation was successful but emphasized that the real work lay ahead. He also humorously noted his disappointment at not being assigned room 13, a number he considers significant.

The wrestling legend has faced significant physical challenges throughout his career, including the need to replace both knees and both shoulders. However, Taz clarified that his injuries stemmed from years of intense weight training rather than in-ring action. Despite these challenges, he previously attempted regenerative treatments and worked through the pain before opting for surgery.

As Taz continues his recovery, fans and colleagues are eager to see him return to action in some capacity. SEScoops extends its best wishes to Taz for a swift and successful recovery.

Rey Fenix Set for Special Meet & Greet Appearance at House of Glory

Lucha Brothers member Rey Fenix has been announced for a House of Glory event.

The New York-based wrestling school and promotion has announced that Rey Fenix will make an appearance at their HOG Live For The Moment event on December 20th, where he will be doing a special Meet & Greet.

Rey Fenix is currently signed to AEW. However, his last appearance for the promotion took place on the July 20th edition of AEW Collision. The last time he competed inside the squared circle was at a CMLL event on July 26th. Amid his absence, Fenix and his brother Penta El Zero Miedo have been heavily linked with WWE for several months. However, the potential move has seen setbacks.

Earlier this year, reports suggested that Rey Fenix and Penta El Zero Miedo would become free agents after their contracts expire by the end of the year. Their move to WWE seemed imminent, but in September, reports emerged that AEW was trying to add injury time to Rey Fenix’s contract in order to keep him in the company. Further updates confirmed his deal runs well into 2025.

Rey Fenix Breaks His Silence on His Future

Taking to social media, Fenix recently addressed the speculation regarding his future. He said:

“There are many things that are not known, but that also should not be talked about. We must wait. Professionalism first and foremost, folks. We must not be the same as all those podcasts that go around spitting out what should not be spit out. Never diminish our work. There are things that should always be respected, and many are forgetting everything that wrestling has given them.”

Fenix is not the only one AEW is trying to keep in the promotion. AEW has taken a similar route with Ricky Starks as well. The company has opted to keep him signed until summer 2025. However, Starks has remained on the sidelines and was recently pulled from a GCW event, as well as all future events for the promotion. Nevertheless, he is set to make his debut for House of Glory next year.

Ricky Starks Set for HOG Wrestling Debut Amid AEW and GCW Withdrawal

Ryan Nemeth Alleges Threats and Harassment in AEW Involving CM Punk

Ryan Nemeth has raised serious allegations against All Elite Wrestling (AEW) and former colleague CM Punk (Phil Brooks), citing threats, abuse, and harassment during his tenure with the company. According to a document obtained by Fightful, Nemeth detailed these issues in a complaint dated September 12, which included emails, texts, and call logs as evidence.

The conflict reportedly began after Nemeth referred to Punk as “literally the softest man alive” in a tweet, which he claims was made in character. This led to a backstage confrontation where Punk allegedly threatened Nemeth. Despite Nemeth’s attempts to address the situation with AEW’s legal representative, Megha Parekh, he felt the company failed to respond adequately. Instead, he was encouraged to cut a promo against Punk on television.

Nemeth expressed concerns about being “silently fired” as his paid-per-appearance deal neared expiration. He received support from fellow wrestlers like The Young Bucks, who assured him that his relationship with AEW wouldn’t be affected by the incident. Ultimately, Nemeth was let go from AEW. He stated that he doesn’t believe Punk was the sole cause of these issues, suggesting that similar problems would have arisen with someone else eventually.

This incident adds to the series of backstage controversies involving CM Punk during his time with AEW, including altercations with The Young Bucks and Jack Perry, which contributed to his departure from the company.

Effy On Ricky Starks’ GCW Removal and AEW Heat: Go Ahead, Blame Me

Independent wrestler Effy is ready to be blamed for Tony Khan pulling Ricky Starks from GCW shows, even though he feels much more is at play. Starks was pulled from a recent GCW event, as well as all future GCW shows, in a move that has angered fans.

Starks’ removal from GCW reportedly came after a comment made by Effy about Shad Khan, the father of the AEW President. Speaking to BodySlam.net’s Game Changer Weekly podcast, Effy was amused that the situation had blown up the way it did.

“I’m opening Twitter and at one point on Tuesday im trending #4 in the nation. Not Tony khan, not Ricky Starks, not AEW, EFFY. EFFY is trending fourth in the United States.”

The comment in question by Effy saw the indie star joke that Shad Khan, who has invested in AEW, is effectively paying Tony to stay away from him, Fightful Select has reported. While many have pointed the finger of blame at Effy for Starks being pulled from GCW, Effy believes that this is a matter for Starks and AEW to resolve.

“Everyone who’s saying “Oh, it’s EFFY’s fault he can’t be here,” this is how things are done in wrestling and it’s something that, you know, he’s going to have to go work out on his own.”

Starks being pulled from GCW came over half a year after his most recent match for AEW, with no explanation given for why he’s not being used. In the interview, Effy said if people, including Tony Khan, want to use him as an excuse for Starks not being used, then he’s not going to fight the accusation.

“Go ahead, buddy. You can blame me. I can handle the blame, I can take the heat. I’ve been called every name in the book before this.”

Starks is not injured, which makes his absence from AEW all the more surprising to fans. Stay tuned to SEScoops for the latest on Ricky Starks as fans eagerly await for when, if ever, he’s back in an AEW ring again.

Juice Robinson Replaced In AEW Continental Classic Due To Injury

Juice Robinson has officially been replaced in the ongoing AEW Continental Classic tournament due to his injury.

Will Ospreay defeated Robinson in a C2 Gold League match last week. The bout that aired on the November 27 Collision was taped after the November 24 episode of Dynamite. The former NJPW star was then spotted on crutches during the weekend’s WrestleCade event, sparking speculations about his health.

AEW president Tony Khan confirmed earlier on Wednesday that Robinson is indeed dealing with an injury. He announced on Twitter that Kommander will be replacing the injured star in the ongoing tournament:

The second annual Continental Classic tournament features names such as Claudio Castagnoli, Darby Allin, Brody King, Will Ospreay, and Ricochet in the Gold League. As of this Tuesday, Ospreay, King and Castagnoli, each have earned three points in the tournament.

On the Blue side, Shelton Benjamin and Kyle Fletcher have scored 3 points each. The current Continental Champion Kazuchika Okada and TNT Champion Daniel Garcia have had to share one point each after their match went into a time-limit draw. Both Mark Briscoe and The Beast Mortos have yet to earn any points.

AEW has changed the rules for the Continental Classic semifinals this year with the matches taking place at the Worlds End PPV itself. You can check out more details here.

Dustin Rhodes Calls For End Of “Constant Attacking & Vitriol” At AEW

AEW’s Dustin Rhodes is hoping for peace from the “constant attacking and vitriol” aimed at AEW, adding that he loves all wrestling. On X, Rhodes made his plea to his 820,000 followers.

The topic of toxicity among fans has been a hot-button issue for years, especially once WWE was given its biggest competition in decades with the launch of AEW in 2019. Wrestlers from both sides have shared their views on toxicity in the fanbase, including:

  • Cody Rhodes, who in July of this year said that the wrestling fandom loves to eat itself, and compared it to toxicity from Star Wars fans.
  • Eddie Kingston, who said that he quit Twitter over toxic fans, and said that hateful opinions don’t truly matter at the end of the day.
  • Matt Jackson, who shared in 2022 on Melissa Joan Hart’s podcast that wrestling “has the most toxic fanbase in the world.”

It’s no surprise that Rhodes is fiercely loyal to AEW, where he first began competing in 2019. The Natural also competes in Ring of Honor, where he is part of the ROH World Tag Team Champions with Sammy Guevara, and one-third of the ROH Six-Man Tag Team Champions with Marshall and Ross Von Erich.

Dustin Rhodes Is A Free Agent And “Absolutely Not Done”

While many fans subscribe to the belief that wrestling fans should be free to like what they like, there are some who believe in attacking any promotion outside of their favorites. Rhodes is the latest to call for peace among fans, though it remains to be seen if his message will get through to those he hopes will hear it.

This marks the third singles meeting between Anna Jay and Penelope Ford, adding another layer of intensity to their rivalry. Anna Jay won both matches. Their first encounter was on AEW Dark on September 1, 2020, and their second match took place on Late Night Dynamite on December 16, 2020.

Maria Kanellis-Bennett Is Cancer Free After Battle With Rare Tumor

Maria Kanellis-Bennett has shared that she is cancer-free after battling a tumor that she’s been dealing with for much of 2024. In July, doctors found a mass on her adrenal gland, and in October, she had a retroperitoneoscopic adrenalectomy in order to remove the mass.

Taking to X, Kanellis-Bennett shared the positive news that the tumor was not cancerous. Maria shared her gratitude to be going into the holidays cancer-free and appreciated the fans support throughout this ordeal.

https://twitter.com/MariaLKanellis/status/1863679723991113982

Kanellis-Bennett’s mass was a Pheochromocytoma, a rare kind of tumor that affects between 3-8 people out of a million, according to the pro wrestling veteran. A Pheochromocytoma can affect a patient’s mood, metabolism, blood pressure, and heart rate, Maria added, and shared that she’s “blessed” that it was found when it was.

With this health scare behind her, Kanellis-Bennett can enjoy the holiday season with her family, though questions remain as to her status with AEW/Ring of Honor. ROH Pure Champion Lee Moriarty on Showcasing His First Art Exhibit & AEW Evolution

Two years ago Lee Moriarty set a goal to have his own art exhibition. The dream becomes a reality as the Ring of Honor Pure Champion prepares to have his first public showcase during Miami Art Week. Moriarty, 30, will be at the NADA (New Art Dealers Alliance) booth, part of the wrestling publication Orange Crush’s presentation

For the emerging talent, art was a way to express himself out of the ring. His parents encouraged him to continue pursuing a creative outlet. He’d draw off Yu-Gi-Oh! and Pokemon cards, as well as Dragon Ball Z VHS tapes and issues of Game Informer Magazine. Although he took graphic design at the community college, Moriarty was largely self-taught.

“I’ve been an artist longer than I was a wrestler,” Moriarty said. “One of my goals was to have an art exhibition. I didn’t have in mind what this series was going to be at first. The more I painted, it became about professional wrestling life outside the ring. A lot of people associate professional wrestling with just violence and combat. People don’t realize the serene peaceful life a lot of us live, especially me.

“I’m a person who is closed in and keeps calm and relaxed. I like walking my dog, going out in the nature world, painting, and playing tennis, which is one of the paintings. This was a big opportunity that came to me by Adam Abdulla to have the exhibition at NADA. From December 3 through the 7th, my art will be on display for the first time. Nobody has ever seen my art outside of photos and things. To see this in person, I’m excited about it.”

Moriarty has combined two of his passions through the exhibition. A collection that presents an endearing and vibrant display of wrestlers in repose. The paintings are a tribute to the sport he loves, capturing the duality of wrestling.

“Originally when I was painting luchadors, one of my favorite aesthetics is luchadors with suits and tuxedos,” Moriarty said. “Back in the day El Santo, Blue Demon, all these guys would have really nice suits combined with the masks, which I think is so unique when it comes to professional wrestling that you won’t see anywhere else.

“I wanted to capture that with my artwork. I wanted to paint beyond just luchadors in suits. Then it became walking the dog, grilling and barbecuing, and things like that and I decided to keep the Lucha Libre wrestlers in the mask aesthetic. That is the universal imagery when it comes to professional wrestling, even if you don’t watch professional wrestling. You see a mask, and you know this guy is a pro wrestler.”

Moriarty works hard to fit art into his busy schedule as a traveling entertainer. When the traveler flies somewhere or in hotel rooms before a show, he’d get out his tablet and draw and brainstorm. The star would then put those ideas on canvas.

“I also use my tablet for graphic design,” Moriarty said. “I’ve designed all of my shirts. I’ve designed the logo you’ll see on my trunks sometimes. The tiger was a design I had before I debuted for AEW or Ring of Honor. I’m always drawing and painting. I have a camera. I’ve done photography. I like making my own scenes. I just like expressing myself creatively and building this world outside of my head.”

Moriarty appreciates the support he felt from the locker room and company. “[AEW] is very supportive of outside ventures that help the person grow as individuals and as brands. I’ve had nothing but support from the first day I posted a painting. Among those colleagues is stablemate Shane Taylor, who he’d watch on his first or second independent show. Taylor’s opponent just happened to be a future trainer in Brandon K. “I knew who [Shane] was and his story and work ethic and have a lot of respect for him,” he said.

The exciting athlete is proud of the progress he made over the past three years. Moriarty feels he got more comfortable with promos and in the ring on television. He has also put on some muscle weight, going from 175 to approaching 200. The student of the game is always looking to grow and improve.

“There was a period I was learning from Jon Moxley for a while,” he said. “There was a period I was learning from Claudio when we were donig the Texas shows. For three straight weeks, I was getting advice from him. Orange Cassidy is someone I would go to a lot. Serpentico, Jon Cruz, those guys I learned from a lot. So many people.

“I trained at Malakai Black’s school for a point. I’m very grateful and can’t express how much it meant. Even when Nigel McGuinness came back to the ring, I was in the ring training with him. I can’t express the appreciation I have that these guys are giving me the time to learn from them.”

Moriarty welcomes the latest signings in AEW with The Hurt Syndicate’s MVP, Bobby Lashley, and Shelton Benjamin arriving on the scene. Three who he sees as an example of how to build a career.

“I think they are three of the most valuable talents in the world,” he said. “They have the total package. The presentation, athleticism confidence. They inspire me to do what I’m doing in professional wrestling and my art. It’s to not settle and not just be comfortable in the spot I’m in but continue to grow as a business and brand.”

Much like pro wrestling, he has hopes for his artistic aspirations. Moriarty looks to step into more product designs from bottles to shoes. “I know AEW believes in me and hopes to help AEW expand with my art talents, I don’t have an end game when it comes to my art. It has been wherever it takes me ….I’m going to keep going and see how far I can get.”

Kota Ibushi On Injuries: I’m At My Limit, It Could End Any Time

All Elite Wrestling’s Kota Ibushi is at the proverbial limit of his career, but won’t stop competing in the squared circle just yet. Speaking to Tokyo Sports this week, Ibushi discussed his career and the toll his body has taken over the years.

“My legs are at their limit and it could end at any time. I wanted to keep going before I can’t do it anymore… I’m really at the limit, but I want to contribute to the world of professional wrestling before I end my career, so I’m currently appearing in various places.”

Ibushi’s career has seen several injuries occur, including injuries to both of his ankles at a NOAH event in January of this year. While Ibushi finished the match, which saw him defeat Naomishi Marufuji, he was taken to a hospital shortly after. Ibushi returned to action in August for DDT Pro Wrestling, where he was on the losing end of an eight-man tag-team match.

Kota Ibushi Teases Retirement After Double Ankle Setback

One of the “various places” fans hope to see Ibushi compete is AEW as he signed a contract with the promotion in November of last year. Ibushi is currently 3-1 in the company, with his most recent match coming that same month. Stay tuned to SEScoops for the latest on Kota Ibushi who isn’t ready to say goodbye to the ring yet, despite the toll his body has taken.

Costco Guys’ Big Boom A.J. Explains 19-Year Hiatus From Pro Wrestling

Big Boom A.J. Befumo of the Costco Guys stepped away from the ring years ago after reaching the heights he wanted to reach in pro wrestling. Befumo and his family have been viral stars on social media with their food reviews of products from Costco. The buzz around the channel would see Befumo sign a one-match deal with AEW and defeat QT Marshall at Full Gear.

Befumo competed for years in wrestling before hanging up his boots in 2005, though showed very little ring rust at AEW’s latest pay-per-view. On Hey(EW!), A.J. explained his decision to step away from wrestling 19 years ago.

“At the time, I went as far as wrestling as I really wanted to go, without being on the road so many days a year.”

Had Befumo reached his social media popularity during his first in-ring run, he likely would not have hung up his boots, the viral star shared during the interview. Now with over 1 million followers on TikTok, Big Boom A.J. certainly has a large enough fanbase to make a fully-fledged return to the ring viable, should he choose to go down that route.

In the meantime, Befumo, Big Justice, and the family will continue to make viral content on TikTok and nurse the injury he fought during his match on the Full Gear pre-show. With Tony Khan offering an open invitation to Befumo to return, fans may not have to wait another 19 years to see A.J. bring the boom in the squared circle again.
