Former WWE Superstar turned MMA fighter CM Punk “broke the internet” again on Saturday night when he announced he has signed a multi-fight deal with UFC. Punk told fans he’ll compete in his first professional MMA fight some time during 2015, but did not elaborate further about when we’ll see him inside the Octagon.
According to Reddit user MetsFan4Ever, it appears that UFC is currently aiming for Punk’s first fight to take place at the July 2015 pay-per-view. The fight will take place on the main pay-per-view broadcast as one of the undercard fights. The feeling is that UFC wants to leverage up on July typically being a big show for the company, which will also include a UFC Fan Expo convention the weekend of the event.

Punk is already getting a lot of flack from MMA purists who suspect he’ll be leapfrogging deserving up and coming fighters and will be debuting on UFC pay-per-view with a 0-0 MMA record. As for who Punk will be fighting, Dana White was quoted by ESPN.com:
“He wanted to fight here. He wanted to give it a shot, so we gave him an opportunity. It’s not like Brock Lesnar. We’re not going to throw the kitchen sink at him. Lesnar had a wrestling background. He’s is going to fight a guy who is 1-0, 1-1, 2-1 — something like that.”
