Strikeforce light heavyweight Dan Henderson (25-8) spoke to the NY Daily News about his upcoming fight with Renato “Babalu” Sobral (36-8) on Strikeforce’s upcoming show on December 4th. Henderson, who defeated Sobral by majority decision back in 2000, says he’s grown termendously as a fighter since then and doesn’t even consider the fight a rematch.
“Regardless of whether my next fight was going to be on CBS or Showtime, I am pretty sure Babalu would have been my opponent, regardless,” Henderson said. “If I have some goals in this sport, I can’t take my time getting there … I’m a different guy and he’s a different guy now. It’s almost like it’s not even a rematch. It was in a different organization, and with different rules. No punches to the head on the floor, and they stand you up very quickly, too. It really makes it a different fight …”
Henderson wants to be the top 205 pound fighter in the world and sees Babalu as a stepping stone towards reaching his goal. “There are a lot of tough fights at 205, and Babalu is one of them,” he said. “That one will be very exciting, and there’s no sense in talking about what’s beyond that.”
