Alistair Overeem’s UFC career looks as if it might end before it even begins.
Overeem maintains a positive attitude throughout it all, and says he’s been in far lower places.
This is hard to believe given the series of events that has recently unfolded in his life, and career. Between the messy split with his longtime management company, his sick mother that caused him to move during mid-camp, and the run-in he had with one of the most prominent athletic commissions in the country which arose suspisions he’s a chemically enhanced athlete.
UFC 141 is only two weeks away where he will be fighting Brock Lesnar, and he has been unable to produce the confidence he needs for the big fight.
He is currently on the cusp of getting his shot for the title against UFC heavywieght champ Junior Dos Santos if he defeats the former champ Lesnar.
“I’m a better fighter today,” he said. “I have a very positive and strong team. So that’s why I’m still very optimistic and why I want to fight.”
Overeem has nothing but good things to say about the newest member of his team. “Todd Duffee is a very strong guy, a very motivated guy,” Overeem said. “I met him briefly backstage at DREAM, and there definitely was a connection there. I think he has a lot of potential. We’re going to see in the future where we can cooperate more. I’m motivated by positive people, and that’s a thing that Todd brings.”
“The UFC title is missing to finish the work,” he said. “I believe I’m the one to beat [Lesnar], and I believe I’m the one to beat Dos Santos after this fight.”
