According to UFC officials, Alistair Overeem was paid in full for UFC 141, even though a judge ordered a bond of around $240,000 prior to the event because of a recent suit with his former team Golden Glory.
Overeem stated at the post-event press conference that he had no knowledge of the court order.
A representive for Golden Glory said that the order was requested when no progress had been made for the legal dispute that started back in November when Overeem sued them for breach of contract.
“The reality is that a fighter is paid within 24 hours of the bout,” stated Golden Glory lawyer Roderick J. Lindblom in a press release issued this past Friday. “Given past failure to pay management and training fees, there is serious concern on my client’s part that Mr. Overeem will simply walk away with the money.”
The order requested a check totaling $241,285.49 be cut from UFC parent company Zuffa to the parent company of Golden Glory, Knock Out Investments.
Golden Glory filed a suit the day before the court order alleging that Overeem did not pay his 30 percent commision that he owed to the team for the fight in June with Fabricio Werdum. The heavyweight claims the team owes him $151,000 in back pay.
