Juice Robinson has signed a new multi-year contract with New Japan Pro Wrestling. According to Dave Meltzer on Wrestling Observer Radio, it’s a 3-year contract that would keep him with the promotion through the end of 2021.
The 29-year-old Robinson has been with New Japan since 2015. Prior to his run in Japan, Robinson wrestled for WWE’s NXT brand (2012-2015) as the hippie character CJ Parker. WWE was reportedly interested in re-signing him, but the preliminary ‘feelers’ never led to a formal offer being made.
Juice Robinson defeated Cody Rhodes at Friday’s NJPW Wrestle Kingdom 13 pay-per-view to reclaim the IWGP United States Championship. He also wrestles for Ring of Honor as part of ROH’s working relationship with NJPW. This coming Sunday, he’ll be competing at ROH’s Honor Reigns Supreme event, which streams live at FITE.TV. Robinson and David Finlay will team up against the Best Friends (Trent Barreta and Chuck Taylor).
This is a great signing for NJPW and a smart career move for Robinson. With the departures of Cody Rhodes, The Young Bucks, Hangman Page, KUSHIDA and possibly Kenny Omega, he’s got a chance to fill that void and continue proving himself as one of the top stars on the New Japan roster.
