Welcome to our results of NJPW G1 Climax 29 Day 9. New Japan Pro-Wrestling’s 29th G1 Climax tournament continues today and will run until Day 19 on August 12.
Twenty wrestlers, divided into two blocks of ten, compete against every other member of their block. They gain 2 points for a victory and 1 point for a draw. The wrestler with the most points in each block will move on to a final match, with the winner getting an opportunity to challenge for the IWGP Heavyweight Championship at Wrestle Kingdom 14 in the Tokyo Dome in January 2020.

Day 9 Undercard
Suzukigun (Taichi, Minoru Suzuki & Yoshinobu Kanemaru) defeated Jeff Cobb, Ren Narita & Yota Tsuji
Yoshinobu Kanemaru pinned Yota Tsuji after a Deep Impact DDT at 8:46. Taichi faces Jeff Cobb in the B Block tomorrow. After the match, Taichi offered Jeff Cobb a handshake. Cobb hesitantly accepted it. No dirty attack followed, in an unexpectedly honorable display for Taichi.
Bullet Club (Jay White, Yujiro Takahashi & Chase Owens) defeated Juice Robinson, Tomoaki Honma & Toa Henare
Chase Owens pinned Toa Henare after a package piledriver at 9:06. Respectively, Juice Robinson and Jay White’s next G1 opponents are Tomohiro Ishii and Shingo Takagi.
CHAOS (Toru Yano & Tomohiro Ishii) defeated CHAOS (Hirooki Goto & YOSHI-HASHI)
In an all-CHAOS battle, Toru Yano pinned YOSHI-HASHI after a low blow and roll up at 7:15. Hirooki Goto fights Toru Yano on Day 10 in the B Block.
Los Ingobernables de Japon (Tetsuya Naito & Shingo Takagi) defeated Jon Moxley & Shota Umino
Tetsuya Naito took his sweet time coming to the ring and continued to taunt Jon Moxley throughout the match. Naito versus Moxley is the main event of day 10 of the G1 tomorrow. This was the undercard match of the night and worth watching for the interactions between Naito and Moxley. Shingo Takagi pinned Shota Umino after a Pumping Bomber at 7:50.
Day 9 G1 Matches
G1 Climax 29 A Block Match: Kota Ibushi defeated Lance Archer
Early on, Ibushi managed to evade Archer and get in attacks with his superior speed, but Archer was able to impose his will on Ibushi and nearly defeat him early. Ibushi, though weakened, managed to take control at opportunistic moments, but was mostly fighting from underneath. After Ibushi managed to hit Lance with the Kamigoye, Archer didn’t fall down and looked to be getting a second wind, but Ibushi finished him off unceremoniously. Kota Ibushi pinned Lance Archer after two Kamigoyes at 11:42. Archer 4 points, Ibushi 6 points.
G1 Climax 29 A Block Match: Will Ospreay defeated Bad Luck Fale
Fale dominated Ospreay with his great weight early, with the aid of his accomplices Chase Owens and Jado. Ospreay kept making comebacks, but Fale’s associates kept interfering and pulled out the referee as he was going for the pin. The referee was incapacitated so Red Shoes Unno came out to replace him. Fale went for the pin and Red Shoes counted to two, then flipped Fale off and disqualified him. Will Ospreay defeated Bad Luck Fale by disqualification at 9:08. Fale 2 points, Ospreay 4 points.
G1 Climax 29 A Block Match: EVIL defeated Zack Sabre Jr.
This was a brisk content with EVIL getting the opportunity to show off his own technical side, matching Zack hold for hold early on. As the match went on, EVIL tried to dominate Zack with his power, but was continually handicapped by Zack’s attacks to his right knee. However, EVIL managed to make his bursts of offense count enough to win on a bad limb. EVIL pinned Zack Sabre Jr. after an EVIL at 16:00. EVIL 6 points, Sabre 2 points.
G1 Climax 29 A Block Match: Hiroshi Tanahashi defeated SANADA
Tanahashi seemed highly perturbed by SANADA being as over as he was. The two men fought in a manner which played up their similarities, being trained by the same Keiji Mutoh. Both men attacked each other’s legs, but Tanahashi was wily enough to avoid SANADA’s signature offense including the moonsault and the Skull End multiple times. Hiroshi Tanahashi pinned SANADA with the High Fly Flow at 18:07. SANADA 2 points, Tanahashi 6 points.
G1 Climax 29 A Block Match: Kazuchika Okada defeated KENTA
At the onset, KENTA simply dominated early, targeting Okada’s head and neck and rebuking his comebacks without a lot of effort. Okada managed to stuff a Go 2 Sleep attempt and finally make an prolonged comeback from there with dropkicks and a tombstone piledriver and turn the tide of the match. KENTA briefly managed to fight back, but most of the match was Okada from then on. Kazuchika Okada pinned KENTA after a Rainmaker at 26:53. Okada 10 points, KENTA 8 points. This is the end of KENTA’s undefeated streak in NJPW.
Due to Okada holding tiebreaker victories over Bad Luck Fale and Zack Sabre Jr., as well as a lead of 8 points with 4 days of A Block remaining, Fale and ZSJ are likely eliminated from contention to win the A Block.
