Marshall & Ross Von Erich Sign With MLW

Major League Wrestling (MLW) has signed third generation stars Marshall and Ross Von Erich to multi-year contracts. The news was first reported by Sports Illustrated.

Marshall and Ross are the sons of Kevin Von Erich and grandsons of the late family patriarch Fritz Von Erich. The duo has been honing their skills as a tag team around the world, competing in Israel, England, Australia, Texas and Oklahoma.

By signing with MLW, the Von Erichs are ready to make an impact on then national stage. They will debut for MLW on June 1st at Fury Road.

“Signing with MLW is a big deal for,” Ross told SI. “They are the promotion that has allowed us to be with our dad, help out around the ranch, and still wrestle.”

“We’re able to continue the legacy,” added Marshall. “It’s humbling, we’re honored, and it’s the perfect timing—we’ve never been this ready for this big a stage before.”

MLW CEO Court Bauer has been working on this deal since January. Bauer says the Von Erichs are determined to write a new chapter in the family’s legacy.

“It’s poetic,” said Bauer, who noted that the contract still allows Ross and Marshall the opportunity to work in Israel and for Pro Wrestling Noah in Japan. “They’re fighting for their family name and their future. They represent a new hope and a new chapter in the family’s fabled story.”

Davey Boy Smith Jr. Critical Of Booking By “Overseas Companies”

Davey Boy Smith Jr. competed on Josh Barnett’s Bloodsport card yesterday. He defeated Killer Kross in the uniquely-styled event. Afterward, Smith took to Twitter to both praise Game Changer Wrestling and also to critisize his booking by “overseas companies.”

The Bloodsport event from yesterday featured several former MMA stars such as Phil Baroni, Frank Mir, and Dan Severn. It also featured several pro-wrestlers presenting a more realistic style such as Killer Kross and Jonathan Gresham. Josh Barnett and Minoru Suzuki wrestled in the main event.

Bloodsport is available on-demand on the FITE app as part of Game Changer Wrestling’s collective.

Davey Boy Smith Jr. will compete in MLW’s Battle Riot II tonight inside Melrose Ballroom.

Davey Boy Smith Jr. In 2019

Davey Boy Smith Jr. currently performs for New Japan Pro Wrestling as 1/2 of the Killer Elite Squad along with Lance Archer. The team are 3x former IWGP Heavyweight tag team champions, 2x former GHC heavyweight tag team champions (Pro Wrestling NOAH) and have twice won the NWA tag team championships as well.

Davey Boy Smith Jr. also is currently 1/2 of the MLW tag team champions along with Teddy Hart too. The Hart Foundation faction in MLW has quickly become fan-favorites and Teddy Hart is also the promotion’s middleweight champion.

MLW Storylines

MLW also held a show last night in Melrose Ballroom. The matches from that event will air on Fusion in the coming weeks.

Last year’s Battle Riot winner, Tom Lawlor, would wait until SuperFight earlier this year to cash in his title shot. When he did, however, he defeated Low-Ki inside the 2300 Arena in Philadelphia to take the title. He later defended it inside a steel cage against the former champion in Chicago. Last night, he wrestled Jimmy Havoc in a NYC Street Fight. That match will air on Fusion in the coming weeks.

MLW Factions

MLW features several factions which are worth noting.

The Hart Foundation faction of Davey Boy Smith Jr, Teddy Hart, and Brian Pillman Jr. began their tenure in the promotion as heels but have quickly won over the support of the MLW faithful. Promociones Dorado and the CONTRA Unit are other factions fans might want to keep their eyes on.

Salina De La Renta’s Promociones Dorado formerly had the MLW World Championship in their midst but with that gone, the faction is turning to the likes of Ricky Martinez, LA Park and Hijo De LA Park to do Salina’s bidding. She’s targetted Mance Warner as a rival but he might prove to be tougher than she expects.

Simon Gotch, Jacob Fatu, and Josef Samael look to have started guerrilla warfare in MLW. Their CONTRA faction caused near-riot conditions last month in Chicago. Battle Riot seems to be a fitting match for them to have success in.

Brian Pillman Jr. Talks New Hart Foundation, Bret & Anvil Joining WWE HOF, AEW

Brian Pillman Jr. has been making waves in Major League Wrestling (MLW) part of the new Hart Foundation faction.

Ahead of next week’s MLW double header at the Melrose Ballroom in NYC, Pillman appeared on the Talkamania podcast this week to discuss training at Lance Storm’s wrestling academy, the Hart Foundation being inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame and more

Here are some highlights from Pillman’s chat with Talkamania host Dezmino, followed by an audio embed of the interview.

Facing Rich Swann & MJF Next Week In MLW

Brian Pillman Jr. will be in action next Thursday at MLW Rise of the Renegades and the following night for Battle Riot II. As he prepares for one of the biggest weekends of his wrestling career, his top priority has been getting back into peak physical shape after a couple injuries derailed his progress.

“The biggest thing just getting ready for the weekend, is getting back in tip top shape. If I am completely honest, I kind of let myself get out of the ultimate shape I was in.

I started off my career in very, very good shape but as you all know, the struggles of the road can be very, very trying and trying to eat right and diet and do all these things, while still bumping on the mat and taking blows to the head and stuff like that, is really hard on your body.

I have had 2 injuries since I started my career, already and you know, I don’t think that’s due to my lack of any safety precautions. I like to think I’m a pretty safe guy out there in the ring but that’s just because of the large amount of workload and the demand for my matches and the demand for me to be booked every single weekend. And you know, you’re going to make mistakes and things are going to happen, but I’m very motivated. Motivated by the Full Gear Challenge that the AEW has proposed. So I decided I am not going to show up to WrestleMania in anything less than my best shape. Especially with two high level opponents.

Maxwell Jacob Friedman operating at a very high level and of course Rich Swann, ex-WWE, you’ve seen what he can do. You just go to be in real good shape when you go into the ring with these guys. You got to be in very good condition so you don’t get blown up and embarrassed out there.”

Being Part of the new Hart Foundation

Pillman is part of the new Hart Foundation faction, along with Davey Boy Smith Jr. and Teddy Hart. The group is arguably one of the top acts in MLW and Pillman says they came about almost due to necessity.

“Well you know, we had to do what we had to do. It was an organic union and we united against the evil that we were facing. We all had a common goal in mind and that was to rid the geezers of the business, rid those guys, those old schools guys that keep latching on. You know, they are latching on to young talent, trying to stay in the business.

Its like, how many times do they retire? They always retire because it gets a big pop, then they come back and then they retire again. It gets old and honestly its disrespectful to us guys that are trying to make a name for ourselves. You know, theres only so many spots on a card and when a guy like Kevin Sullivan or Tommy Dreamer takes up a spot on a card, its really just a spit in the face to the guys like the New Hart Foundation, who are still trying to get by.”

Bret Hart & Jim Neidhart Joining The WWE Hall of Fame

“That’s a big deal, yea. I think its great timing, you know, its good timing because not only are we doing our thing, but also you know, Natalya is doing her thing. Who knows, maybe TJ comes back to the ring in some wonderful, beautiful fashion. He has been trying to heal himself up for many years now.

I think it’s great. You know, everybody is like “Your Dad should be in and Owen and everybody else that was in the 97 Hart Foundation,” but in my opinion it doesn’t really matter because we all know what their contributions are. We all know that the hall of fame is more or less symbolic and it’s just a way to honor people even more than they already are. So, it’s not like I don’t realize that my father is remembered for what he’s done, obviously he is. Otherwise I wouldn’t have had such an amazing support system coming into the business, you know what Im saying?

So It doesn’t affect me at all if he’s put in the Hall of Fame or not and I don’t think he would have cared either, had he been here today.”

All Elite Wrestling & Cody Rhodes

Pillman says right now he’s scheduled to appear at Starrcast during Double or Nothing weekend in Las Vegas. He suspects AEW will want to use him for the pay-per-view.

“Well I think I’ll know more in Vegas, because I’ll be down here in Vegas. So far I’m confirmed for Starrcast, which is the main meet and greet but I don’t know 100%, but I would venture they would like to use me on the show, if they are going to be flying me down there for the meet and greet.”

When asked if he knows Cody Rhodes, Pillman said he met him early in his career and had a great talk with Cody about what it means to be a second generation wrestler.

“Its funny, I actually I got very lucky to meet Cody while I was in Canada training with Lance. So there was a pro wrestling show in Calgary known as PWA (the Prairie Wrestling Alliance) and they have a very high level wrestler there, who actually had a short ride in NXT as well. His name is Michael Blais and they brought in Cody Rhodes to wrestle him for the title and Cody brought in a great draw and did a lot for the company and Brandi was there.

I got to sit down and I actually had a conversation with Cody about you know, what to expect to coming into the business as a legacy and we sat down on the floor and talked for like a good 20-30 minutes, you know he was very, very generous with his time for me.”

Tables Match Announced For MLW Rise Of The Renegades (4/4)

Major League Wrestling has announced a 6-man tables match for Rise of the Renegades (4/4).

The Hart Foundation (Teddy Hart, Davey Boy Smith Jr. & Brian Pillman Jr.) will defend the MLW World Tag Team Championships against The Dynasty, a new faction comprised of Maxwell J. Friedman, Alex Hammerstone & Richard Holliday.

MLW match makers booked this fight after the events that transpired at the conclusion of this past week’s episode of MLW Fusion (watch below). The main event of that broadcast saw Teddy Hart and Davey Boy Smith defending against MJF and Richard Holliday. Just as the Harts were about to finish off MJW with a Doomsday Destroyer, Hammerstone hit the ring and led a Dynasty beatdown on the champions.

At Rise of the Renegades, we will find out: Who is the true dynasty of MLW?

Already announced for this card:

  • MLW World Champion “Filthy” Tom Lawlor vs. Jimmy Havoc
  • Pentagon Jr. vs. LA Park
  • Sami Callihan vs. Mance Warneer
  • MJF vs. Brian Pillman Jr

MLW Rise of the Renegades takes place Thursday, April 4th from Queens, NY at the Melrose Ballroom. This will be an MLW Fusion TV taping.

Jim Cornette Will Continue Working With MLW

Jim Cornette will continue as a color commentator for MLW, according to the company’s website.

Cornette made a surprise appearance at the MLW: Intimidation Games event earlier this month, and served as an analyst for that event.

He will continue to serve in that capacity at the MLW events in New York on April 4th and 5th, as well as at the company’s first Milwaukee show on June 1st, and when they revisit Chicago on July 6th.

Cornette appeared as a guest on this week’s Jim Ross Report to discuss the continuation of his new MLW gig.

“I’m a failure. I can’t do retirement,” Cornette said. “Suddenly, I’ve been thrown into the jaws of the lion again with MLW as rotating color man.”

Cornette also clarified that his position is still a part-time role.

“Not full-time, as has been reported,” said Cornette. “They are running some events that are outside my travel range.”

Cornette also addressed how his association with MLW came to be. When the company switched it’s Fusion tapings from Thursdays to Saturdays, Tony Schiavone was no longer available. And so, MLW CEO Court Bauer called Cornette.

In a statement on the MLW website, Bauer says that he is happy that Cornette is sticking around.

“Jim is very talented and we’re very happy he’ll be staying on with us,” said Bauer.

2 More Matches For MLW Rise Of The Renegades, Ace Romero Joins Battle Riot II

Major League Wrestling has announced two new matches for Rise of the Renegades, which takes place Thursday, April 4th from New York City at the Melrose Ballroom.

Former MLW World Middleweight Champion Maxwell J. Friedman will clash with MLW tag team champion Brian Pillman Jr. Both men are only 22 years old, but have already made their mark. After MJF and Richard Holiday’s recent attack on Teddy Hart, Pillman looks to get revenge on behalf of his Hart Foundation partner.

Also confirmed for Rise of the Renegades, Sami Callihan returns to MLW against league newcomer Mance Warner.

These two matches are in addition to the previously announced double header main event. “Filthy” Tom Lawlor puts the MLW World Championship on the line against Jimmy Havoc Plus, LA Park will face Pentagon Jr.

MLW Rise of the Renegades kicks of two nights of MLW Fusion TV tapings. If you’re in the NYC area for WrestleMania 35 weekend, visit MLWTickets.com for ticket information.

The night after Rise of the Renegades, MLW presents Battle Riot II. The 40-man anything-goes battle royal will air live on beIN SPORTS. The winner earns a shot at the MLW World title. The 5th competitor has been announced: the human jumbo jet, Ace Romero.

MLW Rise Of The Renegades Main Event Announced (4/4)

The main event is set for Major League Wrestling’s return to New York City next month.

MLW has two shows scheduled for WrestleMania 35 weekend at the Melrose Ballroom. Rise of the Renegades takes place Thursday, April 4th. The following night will be Battle Riot II. Both shows are TV tapings for MLW Fusion, with Battle Riot II airing live on beIN SPORTS.

At Rise of the Renegades, “Filthy” Tom Lawlor will put the MLW World Championship on the line against Jimmy Havoc in an NYC street fight.

Jimmy Havoc already holds one victory over Tom Lawlor in MLW. The two men clashed last summer in a bloody match that saw ‘England’s Most Dangerous Man’ score the pinfall victory. Lawlor didn’t go down without a fight, however, and sent Havoc to the hospital for the first time in his career.

Since his recent return to MLW, Havoc has demanded a title shot. Lawlor accepted the challenge, determined to conquer the loss that has haunted him for months.

MLW Fusion Moving To Saturday Nights On BeIN Sports

MLW Fusion is moving to Saturday nights. Major League Wrestling recently presented a live show on Saturday, February 2nd from the 2300 Arena and are now making the move to Saturdays permanent.

BeIN Sports’ and MLW’s desire for more live specials played a role in the move.

“With the majority of our cards on Saturday nights and beIN interested in doing more live broadcasts in 2019, it made sense to move the show to Saturdays,” said MLW CEO Court Bauer.  “Saturday night wrestling has a history dating back decades. It’s an honor to bring that tradition back starting this Saturday night on beIN.”

The show will begin airing at 9 PM est.

MLW Fusion’s Spanish broadcast will move to Monday nights on BeIN SPORTS en Espanol.

WWE Smackdown Live! is currently scheduled to debut on Fox’s Friday night schedule beginning October 4th. It is not clear if they will remain in the Friday night slot long-term, however.

MLW Fusion Live

MLW presented its second live show from the 2300 Arena in Philadelphia on February 2nd, 2019. The Hart Foundation continued its dominance of the promotion that night, winning the MLW tag titles. They defeated the Lucha Bros in the show’s opener. Tom Lawlor then won the MLW World Championship from Low-Ki in the night’s main event.

“Starting this Saturday February 16th, MLW will move to Saturdays on beIN SPORTS and to Monday nights on the Spanish network, beIN SPORTS en Espanol,” states an MLW Press Release.

MLW SuperFight: “Filthy” Tom Lawlor Defeats Low Ki To Become New World Heavyweight Champion

On Saturday night in the 2300 Arena in Philadelphia, “Filthy” Tom Lawlor defeated Low Ki in the main event to become the new World Heavyweight Champion on Major League Wrestling’s SuperFight show.

This marked the end of not only the six-month old reign, but Low Ki’s 15-year MLW undefeated streak.

The early portions of the match saw the competitors go back and forth against each other, however, things took a turn when Low Ki brought a wooden door into the match from underneath the ring. Low Ki tried to put Lawlor through the door but it backfired as Lawlor sent Low Ki through the door instead.

Towards the end of the match, Low Ki used the dragon sleeper to make Lawlor tap out but Lawlor was too aware to fall for it and reversed it into a rear naked choke to make Low Ki submit.
