2 Former WWE Stars To Debut On NWA/UWN PPV

2 former WWE Superstars are set to make their debut on the United Wrestling Network’s Prime Time Live card next week. In conjunction with the NWA, UWN hosts weekly PPVs on FITE TV from Thunder Studios in Long Beach, California.

Scheduled for this week’s upcoming show will be former WWE Superstars Chris Masters and Darren Young (Fred Rosser). They will face each other in singles competition.

Darren Young has also been wrestling on the NJPW Strong shows. Those cards air on New Japan World and are filmed from the promotion’s Los Angeles Dojo. Masters has been competing regularly on the independent circuit as of late.

When Is NWA Powerrr Returning?

Fans of the latest incarnation of the National Wrestling Alliance are hoping for a return of Powerrr. The promotion recently sent out a survey to fans via email, leading to speculation of a possible return shortly.

“We are currently talking about brining back POWERRR very soon, even if it means we can’t have fans in the stands because we just want to get back to work. But it’s nice to see our friend and former champion Tim Storm here. If anyone can lead us out of this, it’s a man or woman like him: who gives it all he or she’s got even when the chips are done. That sounds more grim than I mean it, ’cause yeah: still here, still kicking, and ready to get ready to rock…” Billy Corgan wrote recently.

Billy Corgan Provides Update On NWA Powerrr Return

The National Wrestling Alliance is currently promoting joint PPVs along with David Marquez’s United Wrestling Network. All 3 major NWA singles titles have been defended on the first 3 PPVs. Recently, however, NWA owner William Patrick Corgan announced that the company is working on bringing back NWA Powerrr soon as well.

“One year ago, we shot our first episode of NWA Powerrr,” Corgan wrote. “Suffice to say it’s been a crazy ride ever since. From trending #1 world wide on our debut to successful PPV’s to having to stop many plans (including the Crockett Cup) due to the plague, to Rosa appearing with the NWA Women’s Championship on @allelitewrestling to now adding our voice to the collective that is Prime Time Live on the @unitedwrestlingnetwork, I can only say to our great fans ‘hang in there.'”

Corgan continued to detail his plans for NWA Powerrr to return soon.

That sounds more grim than I mean it, ’cause yeah: still here, still kicking, and ready to get ready to rock…”

The NWA was forced to cancel its planned “Crockett Cup” PPV in March due to the ongoing pandemic.

Title Change Takes Place On NWA PPV

The National Wrestling Alliance recently brokered a deal with the United Wrestling Network (Championship Wrestling from Hollywood/Arizona/Memphis) to promote joint weekly PPV shows. The 3rd such event aired last night from Thunder Studios in Long Beach, California.

The main event of the show saw Trevor Murdoch defeat Aron Stevens to become the new NWA National Heavyweight Champion.

Previous main events in the weekly PPV series have seen Nick Aldis successfully defend against Mike Bennett w/Maria Bennett and Thunder Rosa defending her belt against Priscilla Kelly.

NWA National Heavyweight Championship History

Trevor Murdoch is now the 59th wrestler to win the title. He begins the 86th reign in the title’s 40-year lineage. He is the 5th title-holder in the current era. Previous recent champions include Aron Stevens, Colt Cabana, James Storm, and Willie Mack.

Austin Idol is the inaugural title-holder, having won the belt in 1980 and holding it for 221 days. His reign is second to only Ron Garvin’s 233-day reign from 1984-85 as the longest single reign in the 1980s. The title was deactivated from 1986 until 1997.

Ricky Murdock holds the record with 817 days as champion for his two title reigns in the 2000s. Willie Mack was the first title-holder in the William Patrick Corgan era of the National Wrestling Alliance.

Update On The Future Of NWA Power

The National Wrestling Alliance’s weekly digital series NWA Power is not dead, according to NWA Champion Nick Aldis.

Power has been on hiatus for the past several months. The COVID-19 pandemic led the NWA to suspend television tapings. The season 3 finale, a ‘lost episode’ of repurposed footage, aired on the NWA’s Youtube channel in May.

Former NWA VP Dave Lagana resigned from the promotion ‘effective immediately’ on June 18th in the wake of sexual assault allegations by a female wrestler he worked with. As a result of the Lagana scandal, the NWA stated at the time, “All production of NWA content is temporarily halted, pending a restructuring of executive management positions.”

Since then, several key players from the NWA roster have found work elsewhere, most notably Ricky Starks, Eddie Kingston and NWA Women’s Champion Thunder Rosa.

The NWA recently partnered with the United Wrestling Network for a live, weekly PPV series, United Wrestling Network’s Primetime LIVE.

Earlier this week, an NWA fan wrote on Twitter, “I’m sad #NWAPowerrr is gone.” This caught the attention of Nick Aldis, who replied, “Steve, let me be crystal clear: #NWAPowerrr is not gone. Stay tuned.”

This is certainly encouraging news from the NWA Champion. The retro-themed studio wrestling show was building a loyal audience before things went off the rails earlier this year.

Thunder Rosa Discusses Her Potential Future In AEW

NWA Women’s World Champion Thunder Rosa has talked about her future in All Elite Wrestling during an interview with SportsKeeda.

Thunder Rosa spoke candidly about her experience in AEW to date despite being under contract with the National Wrestling Alliance. She revealed how she began working for AEW after AEW President Tony Khan agreed with NWA owner Billy Corgan. This deal allowed Thunder Rosa to appear on AEW Dynamite in a winning effort against Serena Deeb on the 9/2 episode of Dynamite. She would also face off against AEW Women’s Champion Hikaru Shida at the promotion’s recent pay-per-view, All Out.

“The working relationship is there, I’m returning, I wasn’t expecting to return so quickly. Yes, I think Billy [Corgan] and Tony [Khan] have been talking. They are very happy with my performance so far,” Rosa said. “I hope, knock on wood, it continues. It’s going well for me. We are putting NWA name on a broader platform, which is the goal at the end of the day.”

Thunder Rosa competed on last night’s episode of AEW Dynamite on TNT. She defeated Ivelisse. The fallout of the match saw Shida assisting Rosa as she was assaulted by both Ivelisse and Diamante. The segment ended with Shida holding the NWA Women’s Championship before handing it back to Thunder Rosa.

Thunder Rosa: AEW’s Women’s Division Is On The ‘Right Track’

Thunder Rosa has commented on the current state of All Elite Wrestling’s Women’s Division. The current NWA Women’s World Champion shared her thoughts with SportsKeeda, explaining how she believes AEW is on the “right track.”

She acknowledged how AEW is filled with a lot of young female talent. Rosa indicated how, due to their youth, they “don’t have experience of working TV shows.” She believes this is one of the main issues AEW’s Women’s Division faces.

“It will take time to build something strong. We shouldn’t be discrediting the effort the female wrestlers are putting in. Being a female performer, I can tell you from my own experience, it is hard. You are constantly competing with very talented men.”

Thunder Rosa highlighted certain women in AEW, including Red Velvet, Abadon, and Anna Jay. She noted how they are doing a great job at being “positive and supportive.” According to her, they are on the “right track to build up a strong women’s division.”

The NWA Women’s World Champion has appeared on AEW programming in recent weeks. She defeated Serena Deeb on the 9/2 episode of AEW Dynamite. Thunder Rosa would face off against AEW Women’s Champion Hikaru Shida at the promotion’s recent All Out event. Despite her best efforts, Thunder Rosa lost to Shida in their Champion versus Champion clash.

Ken Anderson Reflects On Being Told ‘Funny Doesn’t Draw Money’ In WWE

National Wrestling Alliance’s Ken Anderson has reflected on a disagreement he had with WWE Chairman and CEO Vince McMahon during his time in the company.

Anderson, previously known as Mr. Kennedy during his WWE tenure, revealed how Vince McMahon informed him how “funny doesn’t draw money” in an interview with SportsKeeda.

He shared how, when he first debuted, he was “over-the-top” and comedic in his delivery. This prompted Vince McMahon to tell him to “[…] stop trying to be funny and entertaining.”

This confused Ken Anderson, who thought “[…] isn’t that the point of what we’re trying to do here, to just be entertaining? He said, with all due respect, ‘funny, doesn’t draw money.”

When confronted with this idea, Anderson pointed to Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson. He argued how The Rock would often entertain the crowd with humor. Vince McMahon allegedly told him how “[…] after Rock cut those funny promos, fans began to expect the same delivery every single night. I understood why it’s really hard to do that [cut funny promos] when you are running 52 weeks a year.”

Anderson confessed that it was interesting advice to receive. He added how comedy characters in wrestling seem to be “secondary” when compared to main event wrestlers.

Thunder Rosa & Allysin Kay Trade Shots On Twitter

Thunder Rosa wrestled Hikaru Shida for the AEW Women’s Championship Saturday night at All Out. Shida won champion versus champion match but Rosa had a solid performance nonetheless. Former NWA Women’s Champion, Allysin Kay, expressed frustration with Rosa for not winning on behalf of the NWA on the show. She took to Twitter to let her opinions on the subject be known.

Thunder Rosa also cleared up why her and Darby Allin have similar face paint:

Thunder Rosa vs Allysin Kay and NWA’s Weekly PPVs

“My goal here is simple: to provide the best contests possible with the greatest talent available, carrying on the great legacy of the National Wrestling Alliance as an independent governing body. And in that we hope to feature at least one championship match on every live broadcast,” said NWA Owner, Billy Corgan in a press release.

“In my 30 years in both television production and promoting wrestling, this project will be the biggest of my career,” said UWN: Primetime LIVE Executive Producer David Marquez.

NWA Announces Weekly PPVs, Partnership With United Wrestling Network

The National Wrestling Alliance will be returning to live events starting next month. The promotion recently announced a partnership with the United Wrestling Network. The two companies will produce an ongoing series of weekly PPVs beginning September 15th.

The United Wrestling Network is a group of united promotions. These include Championship Wrestling From Hollywood, Championship Wrestling from Arizona, and Championship Wrestling From Memphis. It was created in 2013 by David Marquez.

The shows will air live from Thunder Studios in Long Beach. They will be 90-minutes long and air on traditional PPV outlets as well as on the FITE app.

The tapings will adhere to strict COVID-19 protocols. These include testing, temperature checks, and a zoning system which prevents people from entering certain areas.

“In my 30 years in both television production and promoting wrestling, this project will be the biggest of my career,” said UWN: Primetime LIVE Executive Producer David Marquez.

Nick Aldis On How He Has Helped NWA Grow

NWA World Champion Nick Aldis has revealed how, after refusing to take a check for the first six months with NWA, he is now on a six-figure contract. Speaking with Busted Open Radio, Aldis shared his pride in working for NWA and how he considers himself “blessed” to be in his current position.

“I’m very blessed in the NWA. I make six figures. That’s not the case for everyone and I had to earn that. The first six months I worked for this company, I didn’t take a check. I said, I’ll get whatever I get from independent bookings and I’ll prove my value and I made plenty of money from the independents. I defended the title in 7 different countries on 4 different continents. I was doing just fine. I’ve been all in on this, no pun intended.”

Aldis explained how, after six months, he finally accepted NWA’s contract offer. This was because a clear goal was set for the promotion, and Aldis had shown he could “do business.” Not only that, he could do “big business.” At that point, he felt ready to receive a salary from the promotion as he committed to helping them grow.

Nick Aldis On Impacting NWA

Nick Aldis stressed that he’s been fortunate, but reiterated how it came through hard work. Aldis noted how wrestling companies don’t start and just hand out six-figure contracts to its talent.

Aldis acknowledged how there have been “a few guys who have had a few sideways things to say about the NWA in that regard but ultimately I generate that revenue for the company. This company, even at this point, is still generating like over 5 figures in monthly revenue. That’s largely due to me.”

He added how his comments weren’t about putting himself over. Aldis pointed out how NWA has a wealth of incredible talent who have worked hard to make NWA successful.

That being said, he argued how “[…] deep down, if you are really truthful with yourself, is there really anybody else at this point for whom if they were to leave this brand that this company is in serious trouble. You know the answer. It’s no.”

Nick Aldis recently penned an open letter to NWA fans regarding recapturing momentum post-coronavirus pandemic.

Nick Aldis Fires Back At Bruce Prichard For Recent Negative Comments

Nick Aldis has responded to Bruce Prichard’s recent comments about him.

Prichard is a Senior Vice President in WWE and serves as the Executive Director for Raw and SmackDown. He also hosts the popular Something to Wrestle podcast with Conrad Thompson.

A recent episode of the podcast coved Impact Wrestling’s Slammiversary XV pay-per-view, which took place in 2017. Prichard and Aldis were both working for Impact at the time.

Prichard provided detailed information about the company’s operations in the months leading up to the event. Aldis did not wrestle at Slammiversary that year, but Prichard was asked why we never saw Nick Aldis work for WWE.

Prichard says that Nick Aldis is talented, but does not have the “it” factor that gets people to the next level. He said Aldis was a big fish in a small pond, but comes across like he is “playing wrestler.”

The champ says that he does not want to participate in an online feud or be controversial just for the sake of it, but he is compelled to address Prichard’s comments. Prichard is not the first podcast host to critique his career, but he is far more than a podcast host. He is a top executive at WWE, the leader of his professional industry.

Nick Aldis added that Prichard needs to “keep my name out of his mouth” and should stop trying to deliberately devalue someone and their ability to make a living.

Aldis appeared on Busted Open Radio on Sirius XM this week to further address Bruce Prichard’s remarks about him. Aldis says Prichard has exposed the fact that he hasn’t been paying attention to what he’s been up to in recent years. He also says Prichard was “asleep” during his stints with Impact Wrestling and does not have a great track record when it comes to the viewership of television shows he’s apart of.

Nick Aldis Shares Open Letter To NWA Fans

NWA World Champion Nick Aldis has shared an open letter to NWA fans. In the letter, he addressed his personal growth and how the coronavirus pandemic has impacted upon his and NWA’s momentum.

Aldis stressed how “Momentum is everything in this business.”

He pointed out how many talented wrestlers have suffered because of a lack of continual momentum.

Reflecting on his career in 2017, he confessed that he had lost a lot of personal and professional momentum. However, because he was always searching for external validation, he had “never taken the time to build any value in myself, BY myself.”

“I had always relied on a team of producers, editors and writers to tell the world who I was. As a result, I wasn’t even sure who I was. And if I wasn’t sure, why should the audience care?”

Nick Aldis’ “Symbiotic Resurrection”

Turning his attention to the success he has enjoyed in NWA, Aldis shared how fans have been able to follow his ascension.

He pointed out how they’ve watched his journey as he defended the same belt held by Harley Race, Ric Flair and Dusty Rhodes.

Aldis then pointed out how this “symbiotic resurrection” in NWA has hit a stumbling block thanks to COVID-19. He stressed how he isn’t an “angry young man” anymore. Instead, he has grown into a “thick-skinned experienced man who has weathered storms before.”

“[…] the major difference between the pre-NWA Nick and the current version is you, the fans. The fans who took a chance on a bold new strategy of focusing on one match, one champion, one challenger and one prize. The fans who sold out the GPB studios over and over for NWA Powerrr, the most authentic alternative in the business. The fans who stuck their flags in the ground on my island and said “this is where I want to be a wrestling fan the most.”

Nick Aldis ended his open letter thanking the fans. He stressed how he appreciates their support, and that he has no intention of letting them down. He added how, together, they will collectively find that lost momentum once more, helping NWA get back on track.

Billy Corgan Denies The NWA Is Shutting Down

NWA President Billy Corgan denies the promotion is shutting down.

The NWA has been on hiatus for several months due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic. The promotion was forced to overhaul its managerial structure when former NWA Vice President Dave Lagana was accused of sexual assault during the #SpeakingOut movement.

Wrestling legend Raven dropped a bombshell this week when he said the NWA was unlikely to return. “Me and Billy get along really well but I think Billy’s shutting it down, from what I hear,” Raven said during an interview. “I heard it through the grapevine that Billy’s not opening it back up, he’s really disillusioned.”

The NWA has built a passionate following since it relaunched, so this was very upsetting to

Billy Corgan posted the following statement on Instagram addressing the NWA’s future. Corgan makes it clear: they are NOT shutting down and are not for sale.

Here’s the official word from Corgan:

“A quick note about the National Wrestling Alliance, which I fought for, and won ownership of a few years back. We are NOT shutting down. So please disregard any and all rumor to effect. The NWA is not and will not be for sale, and those talent who are under contract remain under contract for a reason: which is that are the NWA and are trying to figure out a way to provide our great fans with wrestling content in a very, very tough environment. And, most importantly, keep our talent safe and the standard of production you’ve come to expect from us at a high level. Anything less, in my opinion, is unacceptable. So yes, appreciate the interest, appreciate the chatter, but don’t appreciate the unsourced rumors and speculation.”

NWA Likely Shutting Down, According To Raven

Billy Corgan purchased the NWA in 2017, taking over ownership of the company that October. The promotion recently parted ways with Executive Producer Dave Lagana due to allegations made as part of the #SpeakingOut movement.

According to comments made recently by Raven, he has heard that Corgan is disillusioned with wrestling at the moment and is likely not bringing the NWA back.

During an interview with Hannibal, Raven was asked about possibly helping with the creative for the NWA. This is when Raven responded that he has heard Corgan will be shutting the NWA down.

“Me and Billy get along really well but I think Billy’s shutting it down, from what I hear,” Raven said. “Billy really does the booking, Billy does all the booking, at least he did with Resistance Pro. He liked me there to have my wrestling mind so I could say yay or nay to ideas. Like if they make sense or they don’t but ultimately he was the final say on everything as he should have been.”

Raven continued to say that he’s heard Corgan will not be bringing the NWA back.

“I heard it through the grapevine that Billy’s not opening it back up, he’s really disillusioned.”

Update on NWA Contract Offers, Talent Leaving

The relaunched National Wrestling Alliance is currently in a state of limbo. The brand was beginning to build a solid viewer base for the NWA Powerrr YouTube series.

The league suspended operations and restructured its executive management team after NWA Vice President Dave Lagana was accused of sexually assaulting female wrestler Liz Savage. The NWA cut ties with Lagana, leaving the company scrambling.

With NWA’s future uncertain, a new report from Fightful provides new information on a few NWA talent contracts and departures:

  • Ricky Starks was offered upwards of $1000/month from NWA for a new contract offer before he left the company, per a report by Fightful Select. Starks is now with AEW, after answering the open challenge for Cody Rhodes’ TNT Championship.
  • Former NWA Television Champion “Outlandish” Zicky Dice was reportedly offered only offered $250 per month at one point, this was also rejected.
  • Thunder Rosa is also apparently now signed with the company.
  • Allysin Kay ‘still plans’ on working with NWA going forward.

Stu Bennett Teases In-ring Return: “I Need To Go Back & Rewrite The Ending”

Former WWE Superstar and NWA Commentator Stu Bennett recently appeared on Ryback’s Conversation With The Big Guy podcast. The former Bad News Barrett discussed a number of topics during the interview, including his recent discussions with WWE and when he plans on getting back into the ring to wrestle.

“I will make this clear right now as I don’t want to be misinterpreted. I’m not looking to get back in the ring anytime soon” Stu Bennett began on the podcast.

Stu Bennett on Returning To The Ring

“At some point in the future? I know 100% that I need to go back and rewrite the ending at least” Bennett continued. “I can’t leave it forever on how things ended with me because it was a very, very bad time. [with] a lot of disappointment of course. But I don’t want to people to think out there ‘yeah give me a call I’m gonna get back in the ring tomorrow.’ That’s not where I am at all.”

Stu Bennett would elaborate further, saying how happy he is with his current commitments outside of a wrestling ring. “I’m quite happy with the lifestyle I have right now. Of course with the virus and a lot of stuff going around it’s another reason I don’t want to be travelling at the moment. And, I love working with NWA and that’s something that whatever else I do outside of that? I hope to continue working with NWA and doing commentary with them. I love doing that, they have a great schedule and they have a great product that I enjoy.”

NJPW or ROH?

Bennett would finish by discussing which promotions he would consider speaking with to wrestle again. “I’d of course be open to something with Ring of Honor or New Japan. But, I can’t see anything for the rest of this year in 2020. I will be very surprised if I was in a wrestling ring this year.”

Dave Lagana Issues Statement On Recent Allegations

Dave Lagana resigned from his position with the National Wrestling Alliance earlier this week in the wake of allegations of sexual misconduct against him. The NWA also announced a temporary halt to producing new content as they look to restructure their management team.

Lagana recently released a statement to John Pollock at Post Wrestling denying the allegations.

“I take Liz’s allegations seriously. The first time I became aware of her allegations was last week when she made them public. I take them so seriously that I voluntarily stepped down from my position as Vice President of Lightning One Inc. and its company, the National Wrestling Alliance, after learning of her allegations. I did so because they pre-date this position and I didn’t want to involve the men and women of the National Wrestling Alliance during this time,” Lagana’s statement reads.

His statement continued to deny the assault Liz Savage alleges took place.

“I valued my friendship with Liz. I’m sorry that she feels that I somehow wronged her. However, the incident she described did not happen.”

“As Liz correctly said, I never made a nonconsensual move on her during waking hours. However, her claim that I made a nonconsensual move on her while we shared a bed is false. I did not touch her in the way she claimed. I never touched her like that, and I never would have.”

Lagana’s lengthy statement denies any assault ever took place. The full statement can be read here.

Allegations Against Dave Lagana & The NWA’s Response

In the wake of the allegations, the NWA sent out the following as it concerns the matter:

NWA Announces Halt To Producing New Content, Dave Lagana Resigns

Dave Lagana has resigned from his position with the National Wrestling Alliance. The promotion has also announced they will be halting the production of new content pending a change to their management team.

The NWA posted the following message to its social media accounts today:

National Wrestling Alliance

The NWA had been building momentum until the pandemic halted production of new shows earlier this year. The promotion had been airing 1-hour episodes of NWA Powerrr exclusively on YouTube as well as producing PPV events.

This year’s Crockett Cup tournament was postponed after the outbreak. In lieu of producing new content, the NWA’s YouTube channel features interviews with wrestlers, wrestlers watching their first matches, and features on legends from the NWA’s past.

In a recent interview, Nick Aldis said he’d love to see Rusev come to the NWA.

“You won’t find a bigger Rusev fan than me,” Aldis said. “I remember pretty much from the beginning, I would be like, ‘God, Rusev is money.’ I would text him [David Lagana] all the time, ‘God, Rusev is money,’ and he’d be like, ‘I know,’ and I remember when he first showed up on TV and they were doing kind of the Ivan Drago kind of stuff with him and Lana was very much playing that role. I was like, ‘This is money. This is perfect.’”

Ricky Starks Announces His Departure From NWA

Ricky Starks is now a free agent and looking to sign a deal with a promotion.

Starks announced on Monday on Busted Open Radio that he is now a free agent after his deal with the NWA expired and they mutually parted ways.

Starks had been with the NWA since August of 2019. After the appearance on the radio show, he took to Twitter to share this new vignette.

This video saw him do an old school interview that ended with saying that he can’t be underappreciated or overlooked.

The interviewer asked him why it took so long for him to be signed. This led to a transition where he was thinking and seeing himself run through a field.

He said that the question isn’t why it took him so long but why it took y’all so long. The video faded to black. You can see it below:

Nick Aldis Says He’d Love To See Rusev In The NWA

Nick Aldis noted in a recent interview with Post Wrestling that he has always been a fan of Rusev’s. He also said that if the NWA were able to bring Rusev into the promotion, even for just a short run, it would be big.

“If we could get (Rusev) at the NWA, even for a short period run, it would be huge,” Aldis said.

Earlier in the interview, Aldis went into greater detail regarding his appreciation for Rusev’s work.

Rusev was one of many WWE wrestlers released from the company last month. He originally signed with the company in the fall of 2010.

“If I were AEW and I had the resources to pay for it, I think he would probably be [at the] top of my list. I think he would probably end back up at WWE, but I’m not sure how confident I’ll be that he’ll be on the open market for very long,” Aldis continued.

The Revival Tease Interest In Wrestling For The NWA

After a recent message on social media, there is now speculation that The Revival could be headed to the NWA.

Earlier this month, WWE released the former WWE Tag Team Champions from their contracts. The Revival potentially going to AEW when their deals with WWE were up has been speculated about for over a year now.

Now that Scott Dawson and Dash Wilder are no longer under contract with WWE, speculation among fans as to where they would be headed next has begun.

Scott Dawson has changed his name to Dax Harwood while Dash Wilder has changed his name to Cash Wheeler. Dax Harwood’s real name is David Harwood and Cash Wheeler’s real name is Daniel Wheeler.

Wheeler responded to a tweet sent out by the NWA that fans which tag team they’d like to see in the Crockett Cup. He wrote, “FTR.”

It should be noted that the tag team has trademarked “Fear The Revolt.” Whether his response was a reference to that name or “For The Revival” remains to be seen.

Either way, the possibility of this could happen even if it’s for a short run. On a related now, Harwood shared this photo that appears to be their new logo going forward:

NWA’s Tim Storm Describes Meeting Joe Exotic

The Netflix docuseries “Tiger King: Murder, Mayhem and Madness” is currently one of the most popular shows on the streaming service. It tells the story of roadside zoo operator Joe Exotic and his rivalry with others in his industry. Perhaps not surprisingly, Joe Exotic has a history in the wrestling business.

Former NWA World Heavyweight Champion detailed meeting Joe Exotic recently in a video published on the NWA’s YouTube channel.

“One night I’m just kind of scrolling through and one of the features on Netflix is the top-10 current things and #1 on the list was ‘Tiger King’ which probably would not have registered with me except underneath the caption was ‘Joe Exotic’ with a picture and it immediately registered ‘oh my gosh, I know this guy.'”

Storm continued to say Joe was different but he was shocked by the charges he was convicted of.

“I knew Joe and knew that Joe was different. He was very open about his differences,” Storm continued. “When I heard about that, obviously shocked. The documentary goes into great depth about care of the animals and all of those things and then what he’s been not just charged with but convicted of, all of those things I never saw coming.”

Storm then talked about a show he was involved in that served as a fundraiser for Joe Exotic’s zoo.

“So the original contact was ‘would you be willing to come out, defend the North American Championship as a fundraiser to try and raise money to feed these saved animals?” Storm said regarding being contacted by the promoter for NWA Texoma. Storm continued to say that he agreed because he loves animals.

“Through Robert Langdon and through Joe, Joe started bringing his equipment out to Texoma and airing those episodes streaming, live streaming,” Storm continued.

Storm and Lagana then reiterated and made it clear that Joe Exotic was never a promoter with the National Wrestling Alliance but these NWA Texoma shows did live stream from his YouTube channel. Storm said the two shows he worked for that Joe was involved in were poorly attended.

“There were more ligers watching than there were true fans, I think,” Storm continued.

Storm then continued to talk about the experience of wrestling two of these shows. He also spoke about touring the tiger areas after hours.

Stu Bennett Talks Next Breakout Stars on NWA Powerrr

NWA Powerrr commentator Stu Bennett recently appeared on Busted Open Radio to discuss his move to the YouTube based brand. During the interview Bennett would give his rundown of some of the next breakout stars to come from the revitalised National Wrestling Alliance programme.

“Obviously when I turned up I wasn’t familiar with Thunder Rosa at all” Stu Bennett began. “She’s the NWA Women’s Champion so I was very new to learning curve. But the very first time I clapped eyes on her, I knew immediately this girl is gonna be box office she she’s so good and that’s an obvious one.”

Bennett would also praise the former NWA Television Champion, Ricky Starks. “I think Ricky Starks is another one. It’s very obvious he’s kind of earlier on the curve than Thunder Rosa at the moment but he’s on this build, this growth cycle. At the moment where he’s gonna go? I think he’s really going to go to that kind of A List level, eventually. But again he’s on the build.”

The former WWE Superstar was also quick to praise some of the more quirky characters in the company, including the Question Mark and current Television Champion Zicky Dice. “There’s other people who organically, just randomly get over” Bennett stated. “You never would anticipate the Question Mark thing. It’s utterly bizarre. But it just works, people love it, the storytelling is crazy, it’s ridiculous. Another guy who I wasn’t familiar with probably four or five weeks ago, is a guy called Zicky Dice. And it was like a kind of an 80’s sleazeball character, but I fell in love with him almost immediately. He’s a fantastic character and another guy you can’t take your eyes off of.”

You can check out NWA Powerrr every week via their Official YouTube channel.

NWA Announces Crockett Cup 2020 Date & Location

The National Wrestling Alliance announced earlier this year that the Crockett Cup would return in April. An exact date or venue for the show was not immediately revealed, however. Already scheduled for the card is a rematch from the 2019 Crockett Cup event between Nick Aldis and Marty Scurll.

The NWA revealed to its email subscribers yesterday that the 2020 version of the Crockett Cup will take place on April 19th, 2020 from the Gateway Arena in College Park, Georgia. The venue is the home arena for the WNBA’s Atlanta Dream. The arena is also roughly a 30-minute drive from the GPB Studios that the promotion tapes NWA Powerrr in.

Last year’s winners of the tournament were PCO & Brody King.

Crockett Cup 2020

Marty Scurll and Nick Aldis will once again square off for the NWA World Heavyweight Championship at the Crockett Cup this year. There is a new stipulation added to their match this year, however. If Scurll should lose and is not able to win the NWA World Heavyweight Championship, he will have to cut Aldis a cheque for $500,000.

Aldis originally wanted Scurll to pay to refund the cost of tickets for everyone who attends the event. Scurll later offered the stipulation that he would cut Aldis a cheque for $500,000 instead.
