Nick Aldis Talks What Fans Can Expect From NWA Studio Show

On September 30th and October 1st, 2019 the NWA will film episodes of a new weekly studio show from the GPB Studios in Atlanta. NWA World Heavyweight Champion Nick Aldis wrote an article for Flagged recently and spoke about what fans can expect from the show.

“I have consistently asked the question ‘if Jim Crockett promotions or Georgia Championship Wrestling were still around today, what would that show look like?’” Aldis asks in the article.

Aldis also addressed the limited seating capacity in the building.

“Yes, there will only be a couple of hundred people in there, but we intend to take advantage of that and do things that can’t be done in an arena environment. You know how they say that when you lose one of your senses, the others become heightened?”

NWA Studio Show To Tape in Atlanta

“The intent is to put the onus solely on the talent to captivate the audience with their personality and I have total faith that we will,” Aldis continued in the article. “The audience will be a part of the show in a totally different way, with direct interaction that creates unique moments that, again, are hard to capture in an arena.”

Aldis’ full article can be read here.

General admission tickets to the tapings have sold out but some VIP seats are still available:

NWA Unveils Location Of Studio TV Show

The National Wrestling Alliance will begin taping episodes of their new weekly studio TV show at the end of next month. Billy Corgan purchased the company in 2017 and officially took control that October. Since that time, the NWA has run events such as their 70th Anniversary show and the Crockett Cup while also bringing their NWA World Heavyweight Championship belt to promotions such as Ring of Honor.

Corgan announced earlier this summer, however, that it was time for the NWA to take the next step. That step will include filming weekly TV inside GPB (Georgia Public Broadcasting) studios in Atlanta. The first episodes will tape on September 30th and October 1st, 2019.

Limited tickets will be on sale to the public September 3rd. NWA email subscribers will get first dibs on tickets. More details in the Tweet below:

The video announcement can be viewed in the player below:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gm_X2xAUlSI&feature=youtu.be

“VIP will be limited to 100 fans per night and the GA tickets will be made available with the remaining tickets. You can’t call GPB for tickets or wait on line. They will only be made available via this email newsletter on morning of 9/3/19,” an NWA post reads. You can sign up for their email newsletter here.

“Today’s announcement reveals that Georgia Public Broadcasting and GPB Studios will be the home of the National Wrestling Alliance series.”

Billy Corgan on Bringing the NWA Back Into the Spotlight

Corgan had the following to say in the video regarding what fans can expect from the show.

“We will be unscripted, uncensored and really in your face in a way that no wrestling promotion has been in your face in a very long time,” Corgan said.

“The professional wrestling that I grew up on was really more about the personalities being locked in a pressure cooker of a television studio which made you want to go see the big shows,” Corgan said in a previous video.

NWA Announces Matches For Red Carpet Rumble, Building To TV Tapings

The NWA recently announced plans to begin filming a studio wrestling show out of Atlanta this fall. Billy Corgan’s promotion will be holding tapings on September 30th and October 1st. The promotion also recently announced that 3 of their champions will be appearing at Championship Wrestling From Hollywood’s “Red Carpet Rumble” later today.

NWA Women’s Champion Allysin Kay will look to defend her championship against “The Killer Bae” Heather Monroe. The lineage of this title dates back to Mildred Burke in the 1930s. It was recently won by Kay at the Crockett Cup in April.

Also booked for today’s show will be NWA World Heavyweight Champion Nick Aldis and two partners of his choosing going up against NWA National Heavyweight Champion James Storm and two partners of his choosing.

Ricky Starks will also be in action today. As of this writing his opponent has yet to be named, however.

NWA To Film Studio Show This Fall

Bllly Corgan recently announced plans to begin filming NWA television from a studio in Atlanta.

“One of the biggest issues professional wrestling faces at the highest levels is production which is kind of a boring subject and because of the success of the major companies over the last 20 or 30 years, the audience has gotten used to really big looks,” Corgan said in his video press release.

“The professional wrestling that I grew up on was really more about the personalities being locked in a pressure cooker of a television studio which made you want to go see the big shows.”

NWA To Begin Producing Studio TV Show This October from Atlanta

The National Wrestling Alliance will begin producing their own television show this October from a studio in Atlanta. Billy Corgan made the announcement today in a special video published to the promotion’s YouTube channel.

“We are very grateful to those people who shared the stage with us, most recently Ring of Honor,” Corgan says in the video. “But now it’s our time to step forward, it’s our time to put the NWA back in the spotlight and run on its own oxygen.”

NWA To Produce Studio Show From Atlanta

Corgan also spoke about how a wrestling show from a studio differs from what is commonly seen on television today.

“One of the biggest issues professional wrestling faces at the highest levels is production which is kind of a boring subject and because of the success of the major companies over the last 20 or 30 years, the audience has gotten used to really big looks,” Corgan says in the video.

“The professional wrestling that I grew up on was really more about the personalities being locked in a pressure cooker of a television studio which made you want to go see the big shows.”

Nick Aldis Says He Turned Down AEW Offer

NWA World Heavyweight Champion Nick Aldis recently revealed in an interview that he turned down an offer from AEW. Aldis was interviewed by Daily DDT and said that he counter-offered AEW by requesting to be able to work for both AEW and the NWA.

“I’ll tell you the truth: I was made an offer by AEW. I counter-offered with, ‘I’d like to be able to do both.’ I’d like to work with them because obviously I have great admiration for Cody and the Bucks for what they’ve been able to do,” Aldis said. “But I wasn’t prepared to walk away from the two years of work I’ve done with the NWA. And that was that. I left it open with, ‘If you can find a way to keep doing this and do your show, I’ll do your show.'”

AEW management wasn’t interested in his proposal, however.

“They essentially wanted to offer me a contract and have me walk away from what I’m doing here and I said that doesn’t make any sense to me,” he continued.

Aldis would also say he has a good relationship with Tony Khan as well as Cody and the Young Bucks.

“I’m still on very good terms with Cody and the Bucks and I had a very nice conversation with Tony [Khan] and everyone was aware of it. Billy and Dave were aware of it.”

The full interview can be read here.

NWA Posts “Cowboy” James Storm’s 1st National Title Defense

“Cowboy” James Storm recently made his first defence of the NWA National Championship at a Championship Wrestling from Hollywood show. The NWA posted the full segment and match to their official YouTube channel.

The match and segment can be viewed in its entirety in the player below:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TfqRSrN0T_E

“Cowboy James Storm won the NWA National Title in controversial fashion from the injured Colt Cabana,” the YouTube description of the video reads. “Now with his vendetta against the National Wrestling Alliance, James Storm has declared he’s not NWA or anyone else. He’s his own man carrying the NWA National Championship.”

“This segment recorded in Hollywood, CA, see the National Title being put on the line for the first time against “one of the best” that Championship Wrestling From Hollywood has to offer.”

NWA Looking At Weekly Television Show?

News broke this week that the NWA and ROH have ended their working relationship. Billy Corgan is said to be looking at developing a weekly series for the NWA which would air on YouTube if a TV channel can’t be found.

In February of 2018, the NWA trademarked the term “the Dumont Network” which is the first network in the United States to air wrestling. They operated in the 40s and 50s before shutting down.

NWA Looking At Weekly Show, Ends Relationship With ROH

Ring of Honor and Billy Corgan’s National Wrestling Alliance have ended their working relationship. The deal between ROH & the NWA had seen NWA title matches occur at ROH TV tapings. It was thought an NWA title match would occur on August 9th in Toronto as part of the ROH/NJPW/CMLL Super-show.

According to a report from PW Insider, however, the working relationship with ROH and NWA has ended amicably. The NWA is interested in developing a weekly TV series for their product. ROH will be moving forward without further NWA involvement on their shows.

“PWInsider.com is told that the decision was made for each promotion to go their separate ways and that NWA President Billy Corgan intends on putting all his energy towards producing a weekly stand-alone NWA series later this year once he completes the current Smashing Pumpkins tour,” the report reads.

The current Smashing Pumpkins tour concludes at the end of August.

NWA Developing Weekly TV Series?

NWA World Heavyweight Champion Nick Aldis suggested back in April it was time for the NWA to move on. Aldis was commenting on ROH not being interested in having an NWA title match on the G1 Supercard at MSG.

“We’ve benefitted each other but we are ready to move. We’ve had some very good momentum for a short period of time and we know that one way or another in the next few months after the Crockett Cup – depending on how things shake out there – it’s going to be time for us to make a move,” Aldis told the Sporting News. “Where that takes us in terms of our existing relationships with Ring of Honor or anybody else, who knows.”

Eli Drake Signs With NWA

Former Impact World Champion Eli Drake has been announced as the latest NWA signing.

Drake was revealed as Nick Aldis’ tag team partner at ROH Best in the World last night. He came out and cut promo in which he mentioned that he is no longer a free agent.

During the pre-show, Aldis came out to reveal his tag team partner. James Storm came out and said he wasn’t his partner, but he wanted to know who it is. That’s when Aldis introduced Eli Drake.

Drake was fired from Impact Wrestling back in April when he criticised Impact’s booking. He didn’t want to wrestle in inter-gender matches and asked to be removed from a planned match with Tessa Blanchard.

The NWA had announced this week that Aldis’ tag team partner had signed an exclusive deal with them.

Colt Cabana was supposed to be Aldis’ tag team partner but pulled out due to a leg injury.

Billy Corgan Talks Crockett Cup Success, Nick Aldis, & The NWA’s Future

The NWA and ROH combined to present the return of the Crockett Cup this weekend. PCO & Brody King won the one-night tournament while Nick Aldis successfully retained the NWA World Heavyweight Championship against Marty Scurll in the night’s main event.

Corgan appeared on Busted Open Radio recently to speak on the event’s success.

“I’m a fan of tag team wrestling,” Corgan said. “I’m not a big fan that in the last 20 years we’ve seen tag team wrestling not be as important as it should be. I was just really pleased to see people who are students in that game go out and win the crowd over.”

Billy Corgan On The NWA’s Approach To Pro Wrestling

“People get kind of thrown off sometimes with the nostalgia part,” Corgan continued. “They almost take that as me wanting it to be a throw-back promotion, they totally miss the point. I want to celebrate the history my way.”

The Crockett Cup featured many throw-backs to the NWA’s history, such as the blue mats which were used at the event.

Billy Corgan On Nick Aldis

Corgan also praised the work Nick Aldis is doing as NWA World Heavyweight Champion.

“What’s crazy was when I came into TNA, Nick was still there at the time and Nick had a lot of heat with the office,” Corgan said.

“Low and behold here I am a few years later and I’m working with Nick, he’s our champion and I’m looking at this guy going how can the world not see this guy’s value?” Corgan continued.

New NWA Tag Champions Crowned During Crockett Cup

Earlier yesterday NWA unveiled brand new Tag Team Championships and announced that the winner of the Crockett Cup later in the day will be awarded the titles which have been vacant since 2017.

The 8 team tournament took place during the show and after a couple of wins, the teams of PCO & Brody King and Royce Isaacs & Thom Latime found themselves in the finals of the tournament.

Still feeling the effects of a post-match beat down they took at the hands of The Briscoes earlier in the night, PCO & Brody King were dominated early in the bout.

However, the match took a different turn after King fixed PCO’s arm by yanking it over the top rope and then tagging in him for the first time in the bout.

Both men cleared the ring and they then managed to win the bout after PCO delivered a moonsault off the top rope and pinned one of his opponents.

After the bout, this duo was awarded the new NWA Tag Team Championship. You can check out some videos and photos of their victory below:

Though it’s worth mentioning here that the tag titles weren’t the only belts to change hands during the show.

Earlier in the night, Colt Cabana defeated Willie Mack for the NWA National Heavyweight Championship and Allysin Kay won the NWA Women’s Championship after defeating Santana Garrett.

Allysin Kay Wins NWA World Women’s Championship

Allysin Kay (aka Sienna) won the NWA World Women’s Championship tonight in Concord, North Carolina. Madusa was on-hand to present her the title, though the new champion seemed uninterested in sharing the moment with her.

Allysin Kay Wins NWA World Women’s Championship

Allysin was scheduled to face the former champion Jazz at the event. Unfortunately, Jazz was forced to withdraw recently and Santana Garrett was named as her replacement. The title was vacated and the winner of Garrett vs Allysin Kay would determine the new champion.

After a back and forth match, Kay was able to deliver her “Big D” discus lariat and get the pin on Garrett.

Garrett is a former 1x NWA World Women’s Champion herself. She held the title for 314 days in 2015.

Allysin Kay becomes the 26th woman to win the title and she begins the 36th reign in the title’s lineage. Jazz had held the title for over 900 days before being forced to vacate the title ahead of the 2019 Crockett Cup event.

NWA World Women’s Championship Lineage

The title won by Allysin Kay tonight has a lineage which dates all the way back to Mildred Burke in the 1930s. Burke held the title for 20 years before dropping it to June Byers in 1954. Byers would drop the title to the Fabulous Moolah in 1956.

The Fabulous Moolah is the NWA World Women’s Championship’s most successful champion. She held the title for over 11,000 days throughout 5 different reigns. Moolah’s history with the title splits in 1983, however. WWE (then WWF) split with the NWA and so Moolah was no longer recognized by the NWA as champion. Debbie Combs would be declared the new champion after winning a battle royal in Honolulu, Hawaii in 1986.

Nick Aldis Says It’s Time For NWA “To Make A Move”

Tomorrow night ROH and the NWA will jointly present the Crockett Cup. The return of the famed tag-team tournament might represent the last joint venture between the two promotions, however. According to comments NWA World Heavyweight Champion Nick Aldis made recently, it’s time for the NWA to make a move and that could mean a move away from ROH.

No NWA Championship Match At G1 Supercard

Aldis also addressed why there was no NWA World Heavyweight Championship match at the G1 Supercard in Madison Square Garden earlier this month.

“They didn’t want it,” said Aldis. “I’m not going to sit here and politically dance around and give some bullsh-t answer as to why that didn’t happen. They didn’t want it.”

Aldis would continue to say the NWA made several pitches to get a title match on the show.

“We did offer them – I volunteered to wrestle Jyushin ‘Thunder’ Liger at that show for the title. I pitched that. Hell, if I had known that Muta was going to be at that show, I would have pitched me and Great Muta.”

The Great Muta appeared in the Honor Rumble match on the pre-show.

“They obviously decided that what they had to offer and the debuts they had in mind and the other things they had in mind, the obviously decided that those were more fitting of Madison Square Garden than the NWA champion who had been the first one to defend the title there since Harley Race in 1980. But, hey, I’ll get there and I’ll do it on my terms and it will be a great night.”

The full interview can be read here.

Jazz Relinquishes NWA Women’s Title, Will Not Compete At Crockett Cup

The NWA announced earlier today that longtime women’s champion, Jazz, has relinquished her title. Jazz will also no longer be competing at the Crockett Cup on Saturday from Concord, North Carolina.

The promotion posted the following to their social media accounts in regards to the breaking news:

The NWA noted that Allysin Kay (Sienna) will still challenge for the title, only now she will be looking to win the vacated title against an opponent to be announced later.

As of this writing, it is not clear why Jazz will no longer be on the show.

“You know I was asked to wear this [NWA] shirt right here,” Storm said. “It’s a nice shirt, but there’s something I much rather be wearing and that is the ten pounds of gold, the NWA World Heavyweight Championship on January 5th, Clarksville, Tennessee.”

Storm also spoke about being a fan of NWA growing up.

“The NWA has a long history in Tennessee and I was a big fan of it growing up. That’s all I ever watched was Harley Race, Dusty Rhodes, and the list goes on and on.”

He then turned his attention to his opponent, and NWA World Champion, Nick Aldis.

“Nick Aldis, we have a long history, and Billy Corgan, we have a long history, January 5th just got a lot more interesting.”

NWA Partners With ROH For Crockett Cup Tag Team Tournament

Ring Of Honor (ROH) and the National Wrestling Alliance (NWA) have issued an official press release regarding their partnership to bring back the Crockett Cup.

The Crockett Cup will be competed for via a tag team tournament featuring teams from both promotions. The event is set to take place on April 27th, 2019.

“The Tradition Returns”

“BALTIMORE/NASHVILLE  — Thirty-three years ago, Jim Crockett Promotions partnered with Mid-South Wrestling to present the first ever Jim Crockett Sr. Memorial Cup in New Orleans, Louisiana.  On April 27th, 2019, The National Wrestling Alliance (in association with The Crockett Foundation) will partner with Ring of Honor Wrestling to bring the classic tag-team tournament, The Crockett Cup, back to North Carolina at the Cabarrus Arena in Concord, NC.

The NWA originally announced the return of the Crockett Cup in October at the NWA 70th Anniversary Event.  On that night, Nick Aldis defeated Cody Rhodes to regain the NWA Worlds Heavyweight Championship in the highest-grossing event in the history of the Nashville Fairgrounds.  NWA President Billy Corgan made a commitment to honoring the tradition and legacy upon taking control of the famed organization.

“The NWA is known for the legends who have carried the famous Ten Pounds of Gold,” said Billy Corgan. “Jim Crockett Promotions built a foundation in the Mid-Atlantic region with their tag team wrestling in the 70s and 80s.  The Crockett Cup in 1986 brought together the best tag teams in the world under one roof. It’s our honor partnering with Ring of Honor to bring this tradition back to North Carolina while supporting the Crockett Foundation with their philanthropy for veterans.”

The Crockett Cup comes three weeks after Ring of Honor’s successful partnership with New Japan Pro Wrestling to sell-out Madison Square Garden in New York City on April 6th, 2019.  For the last seventeen years, ROH has given opportunities to the biggest names in the history of wrestling to create career-defining moments.

“Our utmost important stakeholders, investors, or partners in this business are the wrestling fans”, said Greg Gilleland, General Manager (ROH). “Partnering with The NWA to bring back this prestigious tournament and truly create a special event is a responsibility that we have to all fans, and is one of many other special events to come.”

The first qualifying match for The Crockett Cup takes place this coming Saturday at the NWA Pop Up Event in Clarksville, TN.  Ring of Honor will also present “Honor Reigns Supreme” in Concord, NC on Sunday, January 13th with a full night of action including Jay Lethal defending the ROH World Championship against former Champion Dalton Castle in an event to be streamed live for HonorClub.

More information on the Crockett Cup, promotions affiliated, the field of tag teams and when tickets and VIP experiences go on sale will be announced in the next few weeks.”

Are you excited for the return of the Crockett Cup? Do you think this ROH/NWA partnership is something to keep an eye on?

David Arquette Scheduled For NWA Pop Up Event, Responds To Critics

The NWA has booked David Arquette to appear on their pop-up event on January 5th in Clarksville, TN. NWA World Champion, Nick Aldis, is scheduled to defend his title against James Storm at the event.

The announcement specifically mentions Arquette will be wrestling at the event. NWA regular, Jocephus, later replied “This is very interesting. I have an idea…”, indicating he’d be interested in facing Arquette.

Arquette’s booking has evidently led to his detractors voicing their criticism. He responded to them in a series of Tweets.

https://twitter.com/DavidArquette/status/1075057976501661697

“I love all the hate I’m getting here. It baffles me that these people can love wrestling just like I do but I’m a joke in their eyes. That’s why I’m doing what I’m doing. 8 months of training. Two surgeries, 3 broken ribs, traveling across the US, getting…”

His Tweets continued:

“Stiffed by promoters, helping shine a light on talent I believe in that aren’t getting recognized, doing little things I won’t mention to give back to both wrestling and individual wrestlers and I’m the asshole? Wrestling is for the people and by the people…”

“I may have grown up in Hollywood but I’m not some stuck up punk. I had and opportunity to be a part of WCW when I was in my 20’s to travel with some of my heroes in the ring and I took it. I’m done apologizing. Now I just want to kick some ass so any of you bitches have a…”

“Problem with me I’ll see you in Tennessee or wherever I’m wrestling and we can settle it like men.”

NWA Pop Up Event

  • NWA World Heavyweight Championship
Nick Aldis (c) vs James Storm
  • NWA Women’s World Heavyweight Championship
    Jazz (c) vs Allie
  • NWA National Heavyweight Championship
Willie Mack (c) vs Matt Cross

Title Matches Confirmed For NWA Pop-Up Event

NWA President Billy Corgan has implemented an interesting idea into his promotion. Corgan announced NWA will be holding their first-ever Pop-Up Event, similar to the way bands in the music industry hold spontaneous concerts for their fans in random locations. The show will go down from Clarksville, Tennessee on January 5th.

The show will feature three NWA Title bouts; the World Heavyweight Championship, National Championship, and Women’s Championship, will all be on the line. The first match that was announced for the card was Nick Aldis’ World Title defense. He’ll be facing former TNA World Heavyweight Champion James Storm. Storm had this to say about his match-up with Aldis:

“You know I was asked to wear this [NWA] shirt right here,” Storm said. “It’s a nice shirt, but there’s something I much rather be wearing and that is the ten pounds of gold, the NWA World Heavyweight Championship on January 5th, Clarksville, Tennessee.

“The NWA has a long history in Tennessee and I was a big fan of it growing up. That’s all I ever watched was Harley Race, Dusty Rhodes, and the list goes on and on.

“Nick Aldis, we have a long history, and Billy Corgan, we have a long history, January 5th just got a lot more interesting.”

Recently, NWA’s official Twitter account made the other two title bouts official.

Jazz will defend her Women’s Title against Allie. And Mack will be defending his National Championship against Matt Cross. The show will also feature the first Crocket Cup qualifying contest. Here’s the NWA’s official announcement:

UPDATE! Challengers for  and  revealed for January 5, 2019  New Years Clash. National Title –  Women’s Title –  Tix and VIP experiences now on sale.

What do you think about the three title bouts confirmed for NWA’s Pop-Up Event?

James Storm Challenging For NWA World Title

The NWA will be holding their first-ever “Pop-Up Event” on January 5th in Clarksville, Tennessee. NWA President Billy Corgan picked up the idea from the music industry. Some bands like to hold impromptu concerts for their fans in random locations. Corgan thought this would be an interesting idea to implement in professional wrestling.

All three of NWA’s champions, Jazz, Willie Mack, and Nick Aldis, will be defending their titles. The show will also feature the first Crocket Cup qualifying contest. NWA’s official Twitter account made the first match for the Pop-Up Event official. It was announced that former TNA World Heavyweight Champion James Storm will be challenging Aldis for the NWA World Title.

Storm had some brief comments on the match-up in NWA’s Twitter video. Check it out below:

“You know I was asked to wear this [NWA] shirt right here,” Storm said. “It’s a nice shirt, but there’s something I much rather be wearing and that is the ten pounds of gold, the NWA World Heavyweight Championship on January 5th, Clarksville, Tennessee.

Cody Says He’s Transitioning To A New Role In Wrestling

Cody Rhodes lost the NWA World Heavyweight Championship back to Nick Aldis at the NWA 70th Anniversary pay-per-view. The Best of 3 Falls main event delivered in a big way and the show is getting strong reviews from fans who tuned in.

Cody posted a message on Instagram reflecting on the event and what’s next for him. The second generation grappler thanked the fans who attended and watched live on FITE.TV. Towards the end of his message, he also states that he is transitioning to a new role in pro-wrestling and implies he will be finishing up with Ring of Honor in the new future. Interesting.

Cody Rhodes Reacts to NWA 70th Anniversary

“It’s never pleasant losing a match, not to mention losing a title. However, last night in Nashville was the largest gross in Fairgrounds history (topped the TNA “asylum” 02-04 run, HOFers Dream & Jeff somehow ?) and I know a great deal of folks traveled far-and-wide to be there. That’s not missed on me. Southern rasslin’ and the cities that host it don’t often get that “buzz” like they should and it felt like the days of old last night.

THANK YOU to all those who attended and watched live on FITE. THANK YOU to all those who attended the meet/greet(we earned several thousand dollars that I’ll be donating to The Breast Cancer Research Foundation! Still waiting on final numbers).

As I begin a transition to a new role in pro-wrestling, I hope all the fans who’ve discovered the NWA recently…stay on board and continue to watch the likes of Nick Aldis, Avalon, Willie Mack, Jazz and many more. As I continue my remaining dates with the good folks at ROH, I’d like to thank them and The NWA for allowing me to cross imaginary lines and give the fans something special! -CR”

NWA President Billy Corgan Shares His Thoughts On 70th Anniversary Show

NWA President Billy Corgan posted a message on Instagram detailing his thoughts about Sunday night’s NWA 70th Anniversary show from Nashville, TN. It was a strong show and the replay can be streamed now over at FITE.TV for just $24.99.

(Spacing added for clarity:)

#NWA70 thoughts in no particular order:

Magnum TA @magnum_ta was an absolute joy to engage with, and showed when speaking live of the NWA’s future why he is so highly regarded with fans and people in the business.

Jim Cornette, on commentary, reminded why there is no one better with a microphone, and I appreciate him lending his gravitas to the event. His partner, Joe Galli, has such a bright future, and I hope he will remain as our leading voice for decades. As well, I was thrilled to have Tony Schiavone (@tonyschiavone24) call the main event. As this highlights one of the great pleasures of owning the NWA, which is seeing these legends do what they do best.

On the production side, we fell short on providing a televised event up to the standard that I would consider acceptable. Which reminded me greatly as to why people questioned my pursuit of TNA (in terms of wanting to buy the company, and filed a potential lawsuit to do so). Put simply, building up a culture like Smashing Pumpkins or the NWA, takes time, trial and error, and great risk. And throwing $$$ at the problems doesn’t necessarily correct the issues, and in some cases makes it worse. So last night I was painfully reminded of how hard this journey is, and knew by the time the last bell rung we have much work to do before we’d run another such live event. Which in no way diminishes my appreciation for those who ordered or attended the event. In fact, it increases it.

Sitting ringside for the main event, I had one recurring thought, which is there are only a few people on the planet (let’s say the number is under 30) who could do what Nick and Cody (@nickaldis @americannightmarecody) did last night. Or, as I used to tell my Mother, ‘this is why they pay me the big bucks, Ma’. Skilled, talented people need the right stage and crowd to show their best, and last night was exactly that. The fans were FANTASTIC. Pushing Cody and Nick to a place I think that surprised them. I remain hopeful for a third, definitive contest.

Lastly, the vibe backstage with talent was jubilant, and hopeful. From a living legend like Dory Funk, Jr, to the kid in the dark. And that speaks volumes to me.

Nick Aldis Defeats Cody, Wins Back NWA World Heavyweight Championship

There is a new NWA World Heavyweight Champion. Nick Aldis is now a 2x NWA World Champion after having defeated Cody tonight at the NWA 70th Anniversary show in Nashville, TN.

Aldis won falls 1 and 3 in the best 2-of-3 falls match which main event’ed the show.

Nick Aldis Defeats Cody and Regains NWA World Heavyweight Championship

Cody tapped early to Aldis’ patented Cloverleaf hold, seemingly to prevent further damage from being done to his knee. With Aldis up 1-0, the match went into 60-second respite period before the next fall. Then the match spilled to the outside and into the fans. Aldis ended up going through a table after missing an elbow drop, allowing Cody to deliver a Cross Rhodes and win the second fall.

The third fall started fast with Cody hitting a super-kick and going for Cross Rhodes early. The final fall came when Cody had seemingly out-smarted Cody by loosening his boot, and allowing himself to slip out of another Cloverleaf attempt. He rolled up Aldis into a small package but Aldis reversed the weight onto Cody’s shoulders and got a 3 count.

Cody’s title reign finishes at just 48 days. Much like his father’s title reigns used to be, he lost the title not long after winning it. His father Dusty only ever held the title for a combined 107 days over his 3 title reigns.
