Asuka’s historic reign of terror as NXT Women’s Champion has come to an end.
At Thursday’s NXT TV tapings from Full Sail Unviersity, Asuka relinquished the title to NXT General Manager William Regal. Asuka sustained a broken right collarbone during her successful title defense against Ember Moon at NXT Takeover: Brooklyn last weekend. Her recovery time is 6-8 weeks.
According to NXT ringside physician Dr. Jeffrey Westfield, “During the match, she landed awkwardly from a throw from Ember Moon and was able to complete the match … We performed an initial ultrasound backstage that was highly suspicious of a break that was later confirmed by an X-ray.”
Asuka’s reign lasted 509 days, but according to WWE, her reign will officially end on the date that her historic announcement airs.
