NXT has crowned a couple of new #1 contenders for the brand’s top titles in the latest series of house shows following New Year’s Evil.
The latest NXT TV special on January 7 saw the start of a new era as both Oba Femi and Giulia became the new NXT Champion and NXT Women’s Champion respectively.
This show was followed by a January 10 House Show from Dade City where the Black & Silver brand held a Women’s Rumble match to determine the new #1 contender for the Women’s title.
The bout featured names such as Nikkita Lyons and Stephanie Vaquer but in the end, it was Lola Vice who outlasted all the other talents to earn a shot at Giulia’s title.
Vice wasn’t the only one who won a title shot at a non-televised event this week, however, and Eddy Thorpe also picked a battle royal victory during the January 11 Live Event from Jacksonville, Florida.
— Debbie @ Wrestling In 60 Seconds (@DebbieDeans8) January 12, 2025
Thorpe was involved in the triple-threat match at New Year’s Evil where Femi won the NXT title. Eddy ended up hitting the reigning champion Trick Williams with a chair during the ending spot which allowed the Nigerian star to pick up the victory.
It’s unknown if the contenders will receive their title shots on TV. Though NXT under Shawn Michaels is known for experimenting with the formula. So it’s very likely that these results will be acknowledged at the upcoming episode of the show.
Oba Femi says there’s going to be problems the next time ‘Uncle Dwyane’ tries to steal his spotlight.
The Nigerian star picked up the biggest win of his career during the New Year’s Evil special when he defeated Trick Williams and Eddy Thorpe in a triple threat match for the NXT Championship. His big win however, was overshadowed a bit by the appearance of The Rock who ended up closing the night instead of the title match.
The new champion talked about his big victory during his most recent appearance on Busted Open Radio. During the interview, the hosts joked about The Rock stealing his time and asked Femi why he didn’t say anything.
The 26-year-old replied in a similar lighthearted manner explaining that he wasn’t even aware that his time was being stolen. The next time it happens however, Femi claimed that there’s going to be problems:
“At the moment the time was being stolen from me, I wasn’t even aware it was being stolen from me. Maybe if I knew, I would have gone up to him and been like, ‘Hey, Uncle Dwayne, what are you doing?’ I’ll let it slide this time. But the next time Uncle Dwayne comes in and steals time from me, there’s going to be problems.”
Oba Femi was also asked about the ending of his title match where Trick Williams got hit in the face with a chair by Eddy Thorpe before getting powerbomed and pinned by the heavyweight star. The NXT Champion was asked if he’d be willing to give Trick a rematch for the title if he claimed that Femi didn’t get a clean win.
He explained that he wanted the title match to be a singles bout. It was Williams who suggested the idea for a triple threat so now he needs to go back in the line and earn his opportunity.
Giulia captured the WWE NXT Women’s Championship on last night’s NXT: New Year’s Evil which emanated from the Shrine Expo Hall in Los Angeles, California. She dethroned Roxanne Perez to win the NXT Women’s title and she has made it clear that she is just getting started.
Following the show, the Japanese sensation took to her social media and commented on her win. She stated that this championship was just the beginning.
The highly-anticipated title match kicked off the show and it featured some exciting spots. The final moments of the match saw Perez hitting a Pop Rox for a near fall. Giulia went to hit a knee strike before performing a Northern Lights Bomb for the win.
Giulia has put an end to Roxanne Perez’s title reign of 276 days. At NXT No Mercy Perez successfully defended her title against Jaida Parker and she was confronted by ‘The Beautiful Madness,’ who made her debut.
The pair battled for the gold on the premiere episode of NXT on the CW Network where Perez retained her title following an interference from returning Cora Jade. Giulia had her sights set on the title and she earned the title match after defeating Sol Ruca, Wren Sinclair, Zaria, and Stephanie Vaquer to become the Women’s Iron Survivor at NXT Deadline last month. After capturing the title, she now sits at the top of the women’s division.
Former NXT Champion Ethan Page recently shared his thoughts on The Rock following their brief interaction at last night’s NXT New Year’s Evil.
In a backstage segment, The Rock came across Ethan Page, who was speaking with NXT General Manager Ava. The Rock interrupted Page, who was complaining and talked to him about breaking Je’Von Evans’ jaw. ‘The Final Boss’ also warned Page that “payback’s gonna be a b***h.”
The Rock further made it clear that Ava is the real boss in NXT and said if Page wants to stay on The Great One’s good books, he needs to respect Ava. He then said that he hoped he’d see him on the main roster and then smacked Page’s backside, telling him to get his “sweet ass on out of here.”
Ethan Page took to social media and responded to The Rock’s comments. In a video clip, he said:
“You know, Shawn Michaels? Not a fan. Triple H, not a fan. Nick Khan, I’m assuming [he’s] not a fan. The Final Boss seems to get what I got going on. Hell, he even said I had a sweet ass. I guess we could say that The Final Boss smells what Ethan Page is cooking.”
Oba Femi captured the WWE NXT Championship during this week’s New Year’s Evil show, and the Ruler also made history in the process. Femi dethroned Trick Williams to win the gold in a triple-threat match that also included Eddy Thorpe.
With his win, Femi has become the fifth Black WWE NXT Champion. This means that WWE has now crowned more black NXT Champions than have ever held the WWE Championship. Femi follows in the footsteps of former champions Big E (2012), Keith Lee (2019), Carmelo Hayes (2022), and Trick Williams (2022). WWE has crowned four black WWE Champions: The Rock, Kofi Kingston, Bobby Lashley, and Big E.
Femi’s win was also only the 2nd time in WWE history that a brand’s main title changed hands between two black men. The only time this previously happened came in late 2021 when Big E won the WWE Championship from Bobby Lashley.

Corey Graves has returned to the NXT Commentary booth.
The new calendar year comes with a lot of big changes for WWE including a shake-up to their existing commentary teams.
This change apparently includes Corey Graves who made his return to the NXT brand during Tuesday’s New Year’s Evil special. He joined Vic Joseph and Booker T on commentary for the show:
Corey Graves originally started his broadcast career in NXT back in 2014, after he was forced to retire from in-ring competition due to concussion-related issues. He was promoted to the main roster as part of the 2016 Draft.
Graves had most recently been assigned to the SmackDown brand alongside Michael Cole. Cole was shifted to the Raw brand with the show’s Netflix premiere on January 6, being accompanied by the returning Pat McAfee.
The Raw commentary team of Joe Tessitore and Wade Barrett on the other hand, were moved to SmackDown, leaving Graves’ status up in the air.
It’s unknown if Graves will be sticking around the Black & Silver brand or if his appearance at the NXT special was a one-night thing.
In recent years we have seen a number of main roster stars having extended runs with the brand and it wouldn’t be a surprise if the Savior of Misbehaviour becomes the first commentator to do so as well.
The 26-year-old challenged for Trick Williams’ title in a triple threat match also featuring Eddy Thorpe at New Year’s Evil from Shrine Auditorium in Los Angeles, California. This came after he won the Men’s Iron Survivor challenge last month.
The ending of this bout saw Williams setting Femi up for a Trick Shot but the Nigerian star moved out of the way. The move instead connected to Thorpe who was holding a chair he had brought in the ring. This allowed Femi to deliver a huge powerbomb to Williams for the pin.
The event marks the end of Trick Williams’ second run with the title at 98 days. He had won the title by defeating Ethan Page at NXT’s CW debut episode.
Femi wasn’t the only new champion crowned during the latest episode. Giulia also finally defeated Roxanne Perez to win the NXT Women’s Championship in the opening match of the show. The new champion came out on the ramp to pose with Femi at the end of his match, signalling the start of a new era for the brand.
Apart from this, Lexis King also finally became the new official holder of the Heritage Cup tonight. He defeated Charlie Dempsey in a sudden death round for the title.
The Rock was part of this week’s WWE NXT, during which he teased that his issues with Cody Rhodes are far from over.
The Final Boss appeared during a segment with Ethan Page, who was seen confronting Ava. The Rock interrupted Page’s complaints and addressed him directly about breaking Je’Von Evans’ jaw. In classic Rock fashion, he warned Page that “payback’s gonna be a b***h.”
The Rock made it clear that Ava is the real boss in NXT, adding that if Page wants to stay on The Rock’s good side, he needs to respect Ava. Later, Ava and The Rock shared a heartfelt on-screen moment with Ava saying it was special to have her father around.
Later in the night, The Rock cut a promo and mentioned Cody Rhodes, referencing his recent supportive gesture toward the American Nightmare during the RAW Netflix debut. Addressing skeptics, he assured fans that he was thinking several steps ahead and urged them to trust the journey he’s taking them on.
Despite the show’s time constraints, The Rock joked that they could “go all night.” He dropped an unscripted f-bomb but quickly apologized for it before ending the night by thanking the fans for their passion and emphasized their importance to NXT.
The Rock’s comments about Cody Rhodes come as a relief to fans of his popular heel run of 2024, many of whom took issue with Rock and Rhodes being fine with each other on Raw. Stay tuned to SEScoops for the latest on The Rock, as despite what was said during the red brand’s debut on Netflix, the Brahma Bull may not be finished with the American Nightmare after all.
WWE has added seven live events to its Road to WrestleMania 41 tour, including a special edition of NXT from Atlanta, Georgia. The January 28, edition of the silver brand will air from the iconic Center Stage in Atlanta.

WWE NXT Tag Team Champion Axiom is hoping to get in the ring when WWE returns to Spain later this year. Speaking with Vicente Beltrán of ViBe & Sports, Axiom, a Madrid native, recalled watching WWE live in his own country in 2006.
“I remember watching Rey Mysterio and hoping he would call me to the ring to help because Khali & Finlay were cheating a lot.”
Now, Axiom doesn’t need Mysterio’s permission to get into the ring, but hopes WWE grants him the opportunity to compete in his home country.
“It would mean a lot to me, as someone from Vallecas in Madrid who joined WWE and is an NXT Tag Champion, and it would be a full-circle moment for me. It would be me telling that kid to put a mask on, and he would meet his idols.”
WWE will visit Spain in March 2025, with WWE SmackDown scheduled to take place at the Olimpic Arena in Badalona. The show will be WWE’s first TV taping in Spain and part of a tour of Europe during the road to WrestleMania.
In the meantime, Axiom and Nathan Frazer are continuing to dominate NXT, and were recently named Tag Team of the Year during the 2024 Year-End Awards. They will be challenged by OTM (Bronco Nima & Lucien Price) who earned a shot at the Tag Team Champions last month.
2024 was a huge year for WWE NXT, with exceptional matches and moments over the 12 months. During the final WWE NXT of 2024, the silver brand handed out its end-of-year results.
Congratulations are in order for WWE NXT’s Arianna Grace and Channing “Stacks” Lorenzo, who announced their engagement this week in Paris. Grace shared the exciting news on X, describing it as the “proposal of my dreams.”
It’s official. We’re engaged!!!!!!!! ?? @Stacks_WWE thank you for the proposal of my dreams, I’m so blessed to have you as my future husband ? pic.twitter.com/CGXjaCV4kh
This engagement caps off an impressive year for both NXT Superstars. Lorenzo began 2024 as one-half of the NXT Tag Team Champions and continues to be a prominent figure on TV as part of the D’Angelo Family. Meanwhile, Grace’s contributions extend beyond competing in NXT. In addition to her role with the silver brand, she’s been pivotal in her role as the official liaison for the NXT-TNA working partnership.
Love Is In The Air
Grace and Lorenzo are the latest wrestling power couple to take their relationship to the next level, as several Superstars have gotten engaged in recent memory:
Santa Claus may be exceptionally busy this time of year, but Kris Kringle still managed to make an appearance on the latest episode of WWE NXT. During the December 24 show, the Christmas Chaos fatal four-way tag match featured Hank Walker and Tank Ledger, the No Quarter Catch Crew’s Tavion Heights and Myles Borne, The D’Angelo Family’s Channing “Stacks” Lorenzo and Luca Crusifino, and OTM’s Bronco Nima and Lucien Price.
The action-packed match saw all four teams vying for control. Hank and Tank were eliminated from the equation after interference from Tyson Dupont and Tyriek Igwe. As victory seemed within reach for The D’Angelo Family, a surprise appearance by “Santa Claus” interrupted matters. This not-so-jolly Saint Nick attacked Tony D’Angelo, distracting his allies and creating an opening for OTM. Bronco Nima and Lucien Price capitalized on the chaos, securing the win.
Santa was later unmasked to reveal Ridge Holland, who appears to have his sights set on the NXT North American Championship. Meanwhile, OTM’s win positions them as the next challengers for the NXT Tag Team Champions, Fraxiom. Nathan Frazer and Axiom, currently in their second reign, have held the titles since August and boast an impressive combined reign of over 230 days.
Stay tuned to SEScoops for the latest from WWE NXT and what awaits Fraxiom now that new challengers have been crowned.
The three men met in a segment on the December 24 episode of the Black & Silver show. After an exchange of words, Williams suggested a triple-threat match for the upcoming special. NXT GM Ava then came out to make the match official.
After the announcement, Thorpe tried to sneak attack Trick but the NXT champion moved out of the way and Eddy caught Oba Femi instead. The three stars then brawled and the segment ended with Femi laying down Williams while Thorpe managed to slip away.
This is the second championship match to be confirmed for the upcoming show. Giulia previously earned a shot at Roxanne Perez’s NXT Women’s Title after winning the Women’s Iron Survivor Challenge match.
NXT New Year’s Evil will be taking place from the Shrine Expo Hall in Los Angeles, California on January 7, 2025.
Lexis King has become the new NXT Heritage Cup Champion thanks to some help from none other than William Regal.
King challenged Regal’s son and the reigning champion Charlie Dempsey for the title at this week’s NXT. Nobody got the upper hand in the first round of the match while Dempsey dominated round two. The third round of the bout then took place during the commercial break with nothing notable happening.
King started dominating the fourth round of the match from the beginning before Charlie came back with some offense of his own. Toward the ending of the bout, Wren Sinclair got into the ring to wake up a knocked-out Dempsey, allowing Regal to offer the Brass Knuckles to Lexis King.
When King refused to take the weapon, William Regal hit him with it without the referee seeing him. Regal then threw the Brass Knuckles to his son. Unfortunately for Dempsey, the referee saw him holding the Knuckles and disqualified him, making King the new champion.
This ends Charlie Dempsey’s second reign with the Heritage Cup at 126 days. He had won the title by defeating Tony D’Angelo back in May. King on the other hand, starts his first reign with a title since joining the NXT brand in July 2023.
In 2024, several WWE superstars have maintained a perfect record inside the squared circle, but one name from TNA Wrestling has also joined this elite group.
Trey Miguel, a standout talent in TNA, currently shares the spotlight with WWE legends like The Rock and John Cena by boasting a 100% winrate this year. Let’s dive into the list of wrestlers who remain undefeated in 2024.

2024 has been a huge year for WWE NXT with massive changes and huge debuts. Stay tuned to SEScoops for the latest from WWE NXT.
The main event of this week’s NXT between Trick Williams and Eddy Thorpe ended in chaos and things didn’t improve even after the show went off air.
Williams defended the NXT Championship against Thorpe during the December 17 show after the latter faked an attack and convinced General Manager Ava to give him a shot at the title.
The ending of the championship match then saw Thorpe failing to get the pin after hitting Manifest Destiny on Trick, as he also knocked out the referee in the process. Williams recovered by the time the new referee approached and the match continued.
After some more offense from Thorpe, the NXT Champion hit the Trick Shot and he went for a pin of his own. The problem occurred when the other referee also recovered and simultaneously made the count in favor of Thorpe as Williams’ shoulder was also down.
What Happened After NXT
WWE posted the video of NXT GM Ava coming out to sort the situation followed by Shawn Michaels after the show went off air. Aca declared that Trick Williams was the retaining champion on account of all four shoulders being on the mat during the pinfall.
Thorpe was not happy with this decision and he continued arguing with the NXT official. In his frustration, the NXT star shoved Michaels, causing more referees to come out to contain him.
Williams then took matters into his own hands. Shoving Thorpe back into the ring, he delivered another Trick Shot. The NXT champion then stood tall, as both Ava and Michaels retreated through the stage.
This is the second time Michaels has been involved in a physical confrontation with Thorpe in recent weeks. Seeing how the events unfolded tonight, it doesn’t appear that the storyline is over just yet.
WWE taped the December 24, episode of WWE NXT tonight from the Memorial Auditorium in Lowell, MA. This taping will allow talent and crew to have more time with their families over the holiday period. Below are the complete spoiler results for the taped show:
Stephanie Vaquer Vs. Cora Jade saw Vaquer score a clean win. After the match, Kelani Jordan attacked Jade with a Kendo Stick. Vaquer stepped in to stop Kelani going too far, and the former Women’s North American Champion stormed to the back.
NXT Heritage Cup: Charlie Dempsey Vs. Lexis King: Dempsey had Wren Sinclair in his corner while King had William Regal. The British legend, annoyed at King’s refusal to use brass knuckles, took matters into his own hands and decked him. Dempsey grabbed the knuckles, only to be framed by King. The ref disqualified Dempsey and Lexis King is the NEW NXT Heritage Cup Champion.
Unholy Union Segment/Match: Alba Fyre and Isla Dawn were backstage and set up a match against Fatal Influence. At ringside, Tatum Paxley, Gigi Dolin, and Shotzi showed up and gave Unholy Union the assist, helping them secure the win.
Segment: Izzi Dame tells off Shawn Spears and warns Zaria that she “shouldn’t bother with friends like Sol Ruca.”
Dion Lennix Vs. Ashante Thee Adonis: Nikkita Lyons showed up at ringside and helped Adonis pick up the win.
Trick Williams, Oba Femi, and Eddy Thorpe Segment: Thorpe argued that his foot was under the rope in his NXT Championship match with Trick, and demanded a rematch. Williams called for a triple threat match in Los Angeles at New Year’s Evil. A brawl ensued that ended with Femi standing tall and holding the WWE NXT Championship.
The downward spiral of Ethan Page was on full display during this week’s WWE NXT, with the former NXT Champion dramatically claiming he had “lost his smile.” In an emotional in-ring promo, Page revealed that he’s uncertain about his love for wrestling after recent setbacks.
"I don't know if I love this anymore…I've just lost my smile."
Je’Von Evans interrupted, urging Page to shed his “All Ego” persona and show everyone the real Ethan Page. Trying to boost Page’s confidence, Evans added, “We’re all proud of you.” However, Page responded by viciously attacking Evans. He wrapped a chair around Evans’ neck and stomped on it, leaving Evans coughing up blood as officials attended to him.
Page’s internal conflict has been brewing since his defeat in the Iron Survivor Challenge at Deadline earlier this month. Following that loss, he admitted he wasn’t sure about his future, and suffered a further setback in a live event match against Dante Chen last week, before deleting his X account.
Page’s promo this week echoed Shawn Michaels’ infamous “lost my smile” moment from the February 13, 1997, edition of WWE Raw, which also took place at the Memorial Auditorium in Lowell, MA.
Stay tuned to SEScoops for updates on Ethan Page and what lies ahead for the former NXT Champion after his shocking attack on Je’Von Evans.
Here are the matches confirmed for tonights WWE NXT live on The CW from Orlando, FL:
NXT Championship Match: Trick Williams (c) vs. Eddy Thorpe. This match has been building up for a while, with Thorpe calling out Williams for being undeserving of the NXT title.
NXT Tag Team Championship Match: Nathan Frazer & Axiom (c) vs. Gallus (Wolfgang & Mark Coffey). The champions have had an exciting reign thus far, but Gallus will provide a tough challenge.
Oba Femi vs. Axiom: Axiom will pull double duty, facing Oba Femi in a singles match. Femi is riding high with momentum from his Iron Survivor Challenge victory, so this will be a tough test for Axiom.
Zaria & Sol Ruca vs. Lash Legend & Jakara Jackson: This women’s tag team match features a classic clash of styles. Zaria and Ruca are high-flyers, while Legend and Jackson have the power.
Jaida Parker vs. Wren Sinclair: This match follows a heated backstage argument between the two last week.
Stay tuned to SEScoops for all the latest NXT news on the road to WWE New Year’s Evil on Tuesday, January 7 from Los Angeles.
.@Axiom_WWE will pull double duty THIS TUESDAY when Fraxiom defend the Tag Team Titles against Gallus AND he goes on-on-one with @Obaofwwe on #WWENXT!
WWE NXT Tag Team Champion Axiom will be returning to his native Spain later this month in a rare appearance outside the promotion. Axiom will compete for Tyris Wrestling’s Snow Ball 30 show on December 28 in Valencia.
Axiom is the latest Superstar to be allowed the opportunity to compete outside of WWE. 2024 has seen several WWE work with several promotions, including TNA Wrestling, GCW Bloodsport, Pro Wrestling Noah, Reality of Wrestling, and Marigold. Axiom’s situation marks the first European promotion to benefit from WWE’s willingness to work with others under its current creative adminsistration.
Axiom was born in Madrid, a train-ride away from Valencia, and is the first Spaniard to compete and win a championship in WWE. The masked marvel ebuted in WWE in 2019 as A-Kid in NXT UK, and would be added to the WWE NXT roster in March 2022. That July, he wold debut his Axiom character, and is in his second reign as NXT Tag Team Champions with Nathan Frazer.
WWE NXT tag team Hank Walker and Tank Ledger now have tag team championship gold to their name, though not as part of the silver brand. The popular duo competed at Reality of Wrestling’s SubZero where they captured the titles from Fly Def’s Warren Johnson and Zack Mason.
The duo are the WWE Superstars to have held non-WWE gold since the promotion began allowing it’s talent to compete in other promotions. Reality Of Wrestling is owned and operated by NXT commentator Booker T, and the promotion is among those with ties to the WWE ID program.
Hank and Tank have reached the peak of ROW’s tag-team division, and have been rising the ranks in WWE NXT. The pair are consistently one of the most popular teams in the silver brand, with fans eager to see the duo get a shot at the titles. While the duo have yet to challenge for the NXT Tag Team Titles on TV, their most recent title match was at a February 2024 live event where they came up short. The titles are currently held by Fraxiom (Nathan Frazer and Axiom) who have held the gold since September’s No Mercy event.
NXT is set to kick off the new year with a special event from the City of Angels.
With 2025 marking the start of WWE’s blockbuster partnership with Netflix, the company will host a series of special events in Los Angeles leading up to the WWE Raw Netflix debut on Monday, January 6. According to a press release sent to SEScoops, WWE plans to keep the festivities going even after Raw on Netflix goes off the air.
On Tuesday, January 7, 2025, WWE New Year’s Evil will emanate from The Shrine Expo Hall in Los Angeles. This special edition of NXT programming will air live on The CW, beginning at 8/7c, ushering in the new year for NXT content.
Notably, this marks another NXT premium live event that incorporates WWE’s main roster branding, following the recent WWE Deadline show, which featured exclusively NXT matches.
Tickets for WWE New Year’s Evil will go on sale Wednesday, December 18, at 10 a.m. PT/1 p.m. ET via AXS.com. Fans can register now at WWE.com for an exclusive presale opportunity.
Former NFL quarterback Ryan Leaf made a surprise appearance on this week’s WWE NXT and bonded with Lexis King. Backstage, Leaf said “Everyone is seeing your story play out,” referencing the second-generation wrestler’s efforts to be a better person. Leaf spoke about his own experience undergoing public scrutiny, a nod to his multiple legal troubles that have played out over the years.
In a surprise, King credited Leaf for his change. The NXT wrestler shared that it was Leaf who advised him to attend the recent NXT Deadline event, despite not having a match, something he never would’ve done as a heel.
Leaf’s appearance on the show further emphasizes NXT’s relationship with The CW, which has been airing the silver brand since October. Leaf is part of the CW’s college football broadcast team, calling Pac-12 games and building a presence in the sports media world.
It’s unclear if this was a one-off appearance for Ryan Leaf, or the start of something between himself and Lexis King. In the meantime, King will seek to prove he’s changed his ways. The former AEW star’s most recent match for NXT came on last week’s episode, where he was part of the Iron Survivor Challenge Last-Chance qualifying match that was won by Eddy Thorpe.
Stay tuned to SEScoops for the latest on WWE NXT and Lexis King, as the second-generation Superstar continues to try and prove that he’s changed his ways.
