Female featherweight champion of Strikeforce, Cristiane “Cyborg” Santos does not have many opponents at 145 pounds, but is not completely out of volunteers.
The main volunteer is Ronda Rousey who fights at 135 lbs. currently.
“I’m ready for a fight with her,” says Santos. “I think she talks too much, but she can keep training, and when she’s ready, I’m ready.”
There’s only one problem. Rousey has already dropped from 145 to take on the champ Miesha Tate who currently holds the belt for 135. If Rousey feels more comfortable at that weight there’s no guarantee she’d be able to move back up to face “Cyborg.”
Santos, who is clearly athletic with not much easy weight to lose says, “I’m going to put in a valiant effort to try and make 135.” “Maybe if I can make a catchweight and fight at 140 first and slowly make my way down to 135, but I’m going to put in a good effort to get down to 135.”
CEO of Strikeforce Scott Coker also suggested that a potential matchup betwen the two might be out of the question. “Ronda’s name keeps coming up, but I think Ronda is going to fight at 135 for a bit,” says Coker. “But Ronda has expressed interest in fighting at 145 and fighting for the title at some point.”
