ROH COO Joe Koff continues to discuss the upcoming G1 Supercard event is being co-promoted by Ring of Honor and New Japan Pro Wrestling at Madison Square Garden in New York City next year during WrestleMania 35 weekend.
Koff spoke to Newsday.com to promote the event, which he noted was a big decision to book it as they had to take a look at the risks and the reward of making it happen. It all came down to if they going to run that weekend and would they want it to be in NYC because it’s hard to find a building that can hold 6,000 to 10,000 fans.
“WWE wasn’t even thinking of using (the Garden on that night). I can’t speak for other organizations and why they do or they don’t use it. It was the right venue for us on that day.” He continued to state that the people who bought tickets to MSG would have bought tickets to ROH no matter where they hold the show.
Koff also discussed if the promotion is concerned about WWE potentially WWE retaliating against ROH.
This is where he stated, “If I’m in their crosshairs, I don’t feel that I’ve ever not been in their crosshairs, but not for anything more than the talent that I have and the opportunity that they see in taking our talent. But I don’t feel any strain on our relationship.”
