ROH’s Joe Koff Comments On Talks With WWE, Sale Rumors

Sinclair Broadcast Group / Ring of Honor COO Joe Koff recently spoke with the Baltimore Sun to promote Saturday night’s ROH Charm City Excellence TV tapings (Results). Koff was asked once again about reports that WWE was negotiating to buy Ring of Honor and says there’s “no story” thre.

“It was not a story. It was not a story when it came out. I think people want to make a story out of nothing. I’m very open in conversations with very many different wrestling promotions. And I think sometimes because I don’t share a lot of stuff, we’re very private about what we do. I think it raises speculation.”

Koff admits that he has talked with WWE several times, but it’s usually been about WWE wanting to license footage from ROH’s vast tape library. With so many ROH veterans under contract with WWE (Seth Rollins, Kevin Owens, Samoa Joe, AJ Styles, Cesaro, Daniel Bryan, etc.), it makes sense that WWE would want access to that footage for WWE Network specials and DVD offerings.

“I think this thing with the WWE really started because we were in conversations about content for Kevin Owens’ DVD. There was a lot of back and forth between the two companies. I think that was the seed that drove that story.”

Other topics discussed include Matt and Jeff Hardy’s time in ROH, Christopher Daniels winning the ROH World title, Bully Ray and the success of ROH’s Supercard of Honor show during WrestleMania weekend. Head over to the Baltimore Sun to read the full interview.
