Katsuyori Shibata faced IWGP Heavyweight Champion Kazuchika Okada in the main event of yesterday’s Sakura Genesis show.
After the bout, Shibata reportedly collapsed backstage and was rushed to a local hospital.
Shibata was suffering from a subdural hematoma and underwent emergency surgery, he is now recovering but will miss New Japan’s next tour as a precaution.
A subdural hematoma is usually caused by a head injury, it is where blood collects between the skull and the surface of the brain.
