SCU vs Lucha Bros.: AEW Tag Tournament Finals
AEW Dynamite: October 30th, 2019

The main event of this week’s AEW Dynamite saw SCU (Scorpio Sky & Frankie Kazarian) clash with the Lucha Bros. (Pentagon Jr. & Rey Fenix). This match wasn’t just about championship gold however, SCU were also out to avenge their fallen SCU team member Christopher Daniels, who hasn’t been seen since Pentagon gave him a piledriver on the ramp several weeks ago.

Breakdown & Deciding Factors

This championship match was a fraught and often chaotic affair, with 70 strikes being thrown in the opening exchange. Lucha Bros weathered the early storm and took charge of the match, so much so they limited SCU to only one tag.

The amount of strikes thrown by SCU led to them to use a higher percentage of offense in this match, 58% of the match’s offense came from SCU.

SCU’s eventual victory came as a consequence of fighting from underneath in the closing stretch as Sky reversed the Foot-Stomp Piledriver to pin Pentagon.

SCU landed significantly more strikes than their opponents, but the Lucha Bros. landed more dives (4-3), reversed more moves (13-10) and had more pin attempts (4-3). Ultimately, SCU’s win was the result of grit and determination, as they did not have any big [statistical] advantages over the Lucha Bros.
