Following his retirement announcement during his induction speech at the 2016 WWE Hall Of Fame ceremony in Dallas, Texas on Saturday evening, Sting spoke with WWE.com backstage about his internal struggle regarding whether or not to make the call.
“The only thing I would like to share is that, man, it’s something that I battled with until all the way up to the last minute pretty much, as to whether or not I was going to retire. It just makes sense right now.”
The latest inductee into the WWE Hall Of Fame continued, explaining that while he wholeheartedly believes he could very well compete in one more match, he feels that now is the time to end his legendary career.
“I mean, I don’t want to [retire]. Every wrestler, ‘One more match, one more match.’ Although I do believe wholeheartedly I could do it, I just think it’s time for me to put my boots in the middle of the ring.”
