TNA Impact Wrestling Moving To Wednesday Nights?

TNA Impact Wrestling has gone through a number of changes in recent months, moving to different channels on different nights and different times, and it looks like it’s about to happen again.

Last week, there was talk in the TNA offices in Nashville, Tennessee about the possibility of moving Impact Wrestling to Wednesday nights, possibly as soon as next month.

One of the driving forces behind the idea is the fear within TNA regarding how well their viewership will hold up on Destination America on Friday nights as we head into the summer months.

As things stand right now, the talk is that Impact Wrestling will switch to Wednesday nights at 9pm EST. as soon as June.

The Latest On TNA Morale, Mike Tenay On Commentary This Week & More

– TNA just wrapped up several nights of Impact Wrestling tapings from Orlando, with spoiler results from all the shows available at our TNA News section. Morale was said to be ‘so-so’ and talent is still adjusting to the ever-changing company dynamics. With so many shows taking place, everybody was focused on making the shows as good as possible.

Management informed the wrestlers that no live events are going to be taking place until the summer, at the earliest. As noted last week, there was a lot of negativity regarding TNA’s live tour of China being cancelled.

– Mike Tenay will be returning to commentary on this week’s Impact Wrestling, but he’s not returning to the position full-time. No word yet on why Al Snow wasn’t brought back to work with Josh Mathews this past week, but “The Pope” D’Angelo Dinero did commentary for the May 22nd episode of Impact.

The Young Bucks Turn Down TNA Offer, TNA’s New Creative Structure

– Matt and Nick Jackson of The Young bucks recently turned down an offer from TNA. The duo competed for the promotion between 2009-2011 as Generation Me and have also been courted by WWE and Lucha Underground.

As noted earlier this week, they will be debuting for Jeff Jarrett’s Global Force Wrestling on June 21st as part of the GFW Grand Slam Tour.

– Former TNA X Division Champion Sanada, who was released early from his TNA contract last month, will also be working for Global Force Wrestling.

Sanada’s TNA stint was part of a working relationship with Japan’s Wrestle-1 promotion, which involved TNA Bound For Glory being held in Tokyo last year. Due to Wrestle-1 dealing with financial issues, they’ve stopped booking TNA talent, paving the way for Sanada signing with GFW.

– Dave Lagana is now heading up the creative team in TNA, working alongside Matt Conway, Christy Hemme and Billy Corgan. They all report to Dixie Carter and John Gaburick, who make the final decisions.

Impact Wrestling Viewership: Did Live Show With World Champion Returning Help?

The Friday, May 8, 2015 edition of TNA Impact Wrestling drew a total of 463,000 viewers, down from the previous week’s show, which scored 549,000 viewers.

Friday’s show aired “live” on a two-hour delay, as opposed to being taped weeks in advance, and also featured heavy promotion on a “former World Champion returning,” and regardless, numbers dropped compared to last week’s show.

The immediate replay for Friday’s Impact Wrestling, which aired as usual on Destination America, drew 105,000 viewers. The initial airing, which aired on a two-hour delay, drew 358,000, which together makes the 463,000 total viewers for this week’s show.

Jim Ross Talks To Billy Corgan About Joining TNA Creative Team

WWE Hall Of Famer Jim Ross recently spoke with new TNA creative team member Billy Corgan for a new FOX Sports feature and during their discussion, Corgan revealed that he did not take the job for the money.

“Absolutely not,” said Corgan. “Dixie [Carter] and I really haven’t talked that much about money but we will get around to it one day, obviously. But now it’s time to go about the business of changing the perception of TNA and growing the brand. If we can do the job of growing TNA on a global basis the money aspect of the job will take care of itself. I want to make my mark on the wrestling business.”

The former Smashing Pumpkins front man also spoke about how he envisions TNA television evolving.

Deeper and longer storylines with bigger payoffs at the end of the story arc,” he said. “Deeper journeys in the storytelling realm than we have seen previously, TNA-identified talents, developing a TNA ‘system’ regarding the in-ring product, establishing a TNA wrestling identity, storylines that are logical and that make sense because storytelling is the key tenement to the business. I also don’t want to hear the mention of other wrestling companies or a talent’s previous pro-wrestling accomplishments on our shows.

Dixie Carter On Real Housewives Of Nashville?, Dixie’s New Reality Show, AAA-TNA

– AAA star Argos worked the May 22nd Impact Wrestling taping this weekend, which is likely a sign that the AAA-TNA working relationship is moving forward. Argos’ brother, Argenis, may also be coming in, however he wasn’t there this weekend.

– As noted, TNA President Dixie Carter had a film crew following her around at the TNA tapings on Friday, likely for a reality television show that she has been trying to get off the ground for a while. The material that was filmed on Friday was shot so that they can insert “current” footage into the existing pitch reel that was created a while ago.

– Back in January of 2014 it was reported that TNA’s production team began working on a demo reel for a potential Dixie Carter reality show, with the idea that it would be shopped around to networks. This reel is what the new footage will be added to and it was done by a Dallas company that Carter has ties to. She previously tried to get on The Real Housewives of Nashville show, but that never worked out.

TNA Impact Wrestling Results – May 8, 2015

The following matches and segments were taped for the Friday, May 8th edition of TNA Impact Wrestling on Destination America. Results come from ProWrestling.net.

Q1] Impact opened with Eric Young standing in the ring and demanding to know who the special referee of his title match against Kurt Angle would be. Bully Ray’s music played and he walked out wearing a leather vest over a referee’s shirt. Josh Mathews checked in on commentary. The fans chanted “welcome back” to Ray. “Do you know who I am?” Ray asked. “I’m Bully Ray and the special guest referee for tonight’s World Heavyweight Championship match”… A video focussed on the the top feuds with matches that will occur during the show…

EC3 and Tyrus headed to the ring. Mathews noted that the stipulation of the match would be determined by fan vote – arm wrestling or falls count anywhere. Once in the ring, EC3 cut a brief promo, then Anderson walked onto the stage and said he was tired of hearing EC3 run his mouth. The fan vote was 85 percent in favor of falls count anywhere. Anderson delivered his usual self-introduction and then headed to the ring…

1. EC3 (w/Tyrus) vs. Mr. Anderson in a falls count anywhere match. Mathews noted that there were no disqualifications or countouts, which explained why Tyrus was able to go after him once the bell rang. Anderson quickly cleared both men from the ring, then got EC3 alone. However, Tyrus tripped him and pulled him to ringside, then took shots at him. Anderson came back with a Mic Check that put Tyrus into the ring post.

Anderson got the better of EC3 and hit him with a low blow at ringside and covered him on the floor for two. Anderson pulled several chairs out from underneath the ring. EC3 rolled him up for a one count, then Anderson stood up and kicked him. Anderson set up for the Mic Check, but EC3 broke that up and ended up backdropping him onto the entrance ramp. A short time later, Tyrus got involved again and caught Anderson with a splash in the corner, then delivered a soft looking heart punch(?). EC3 covered Anderson and got the pin…

EC3 defeated Mr. Anderson in 5:35.

Backstage, Bully Ray spoke with Kurt Angle, who asked if it had been eight months since Ray last appeared. “It’s been too long,” Ray said. Angle asked if Ray would call it down the middle for him. “Kurt, do you know who I am?” Ray asked before walking away…

[Q2] [C] Backstage, Gail Kim approached Awesome Kong and noted that they haven’t been on the same page ever, but Taryn Terrell has made it personal for both of them. “So are you in?” Kim asked. Kong walked away… Mathews hyped the handicap Knockouts match for later in the show…

The Beat Down Clan (MVP, Kenny King, Low-Ki) made their entrance. They had a flag and wore costume masks. They removed the masks once they entered the ring. MVP took the mic and said Impact Wrestling his live on Destination America. MVP said that because it’s live he would say things that would “make you uncomfortable” and added that the truth tends to do that. He held up a mask and said it belongs to Homicide, who couldn’t be there because someone blindsided him and he needed to have shoulder surgery.

MVP said fans stand up for The Rising when they resort to doing things like that. He spoke about how the U.S. government takes oilfields, then said fans call them thugs when BDC does something along those lines. MVP said “thug” is the new codeword for n—– (he was censored). He said BDC would treat The Rising like “the establishment likes to treat so-called thugs.”

The Rising (Drew Galloway, Mica, Eli Drake). Galloway said they had nothing to do with Homicide’s injury. Galloway said he noticed the way King looked when Homicde touched his title belt. “Where were you last night?” he asked. MVP took a shot at “keyboard warriors” and said he doesn’t care about pro wrestling, he cares about making money. MVP said Galloway cares about work rate, whereas he cares about interest rates. The Rising eventually entered the ring and quickly cleared BDC… [C]

[Q3] 2. Drew Galloway (w/Mica, Eli Drake) vs. MVP (w/Low Ki, Kenny King). MVP gained controla and flung Galloway into the guardrail at ringside, then ran him into the ring post. Back in the ring, Galloway came back with a DDT and scored the clean pin. However, Eric Young entered the ring and attacked Galloway with a chair. The other Rising members tried to save Galloway, but the other BDC members stopped them. Young spoke briefly with MVP off-mic as Mathews recalled Young’s alliance with BDC starting back in January…

Drew Galloway beat MVP in 4:40.

Mathews hyped the main event… Backstage, James Storm arrived with a gift. He said it’s a “special gift for a very special friend.” He said they would “unwrap them all very, very soon”… [C]

James Storm headed to the ring with his gift. Mathews recalled the storyline involving Storm, Mickie James, and Magnus, then plugged some Destination America shit shot called Ghost Asylum (okay, so I’ve never watched it). Storm introduced Mickie James, who came out to a good reaction.

Ethan Carter III On Pre-Match Rituals, Experiencing Setbacks, His Future Plans & More

TNA star Ethan Carter III (EC3) recently spoke with the Male Standard website about his career as a TNA Wrestler. Below are some highlights from the interview, which were sent in by SEScoops.com reader Victor Macias.

On when he realized he wanted to become a pro wrestler: “I think every professional wrestler has that ah-ha moment, it’s like a calling. That call came from my aunt, Dixie Carter, she actually called me one day and said, “Hey, ever think about being a wrestler? You’re so athletic and good looking, wouldn’t it be perfect for you?” and I was like, “You’re right.” Next thing you know, I’m the best thing ever.”

On setbacks he’s experienced along the way: “Everyone has strife of apprehensions, things that doesn’t always go according to plan. Not all victories are easy; I’ve had to work at a couple of them. Being undefeated, it’s hard. Especially when getting my head bashed in by Bully Ray with a trashcan and bleeding all over the place or suffering a torn bicep and having to work through that with a giant arm brace but through it all, I’ve remained undefeated.”

On his pre-match rituals: “I try to be regimented; everything is almost a sociopathic standard of perfection. 5 minutes on the jumping of the rope, nice facial cleanser and herbal moisturizer on the skin. Ill go over to see my masseuse Helga, after that, go to the spa, feeling good, maybe do a couple push-ups, squats, sipping Perrier water. The whole time I have classical music playing to relax. My music hits, best music in the business, I walk out backward, and I win, it’s all good.”

On what we can expect from him in the future: “Well you know, I’m sitting here; the crew and me are punching in numbers and looking at the polls and it’s about 83% in the EC3 favor, which is good but we’re not going to know until Election Day a.k.a my first title shot. In the future, I’m predicting I win world heavyweight championship. I hold it for 4-8 years, probably 8-10. The whole time I’ll have challenges and someone might give me a run for my money but about 10 years later I will still be the champion, probably retire, then go on to pursue my political career.”

Check out the complete interview at MaleStandard.com.

Possible *Spoiler* On Former TNA Champion Returning As Special Referee Tonight

As reported earlier today, TNA will be taping several weeks worth of Impact Wrestling episodes across the next four days, starting with tonight’s show, which airs semi-live on a two-hour delay from Orlando, Florida.

In the main event of tonight’s show, the TNA World Heavyweight Championship will be on the line with Kurt Angle defending the title against Eric Young with a former TNA Champion returning to serve as special guest referee of the match.

Unless the former champion is a swerve of some kind, the following are the most likely candidates, according to a report from F4WOnline.com:

– Sting (highly unlikely due to his WWE deal)
– Samoa Joe (possible, but unlikely due to his rumored negotiations with WWE)
– Mick Foley (also seems unlikely now that he just recently taped a highly-promoted special for the WWE Network)
– A.J. Styles (would seem unlikely due to his various commitments, including Ring Of Honor starting next Tuesday)
– Chris Sabin (a possibility)
– Rob Van Dam (a possibility)
– Bully Ray (a very strong possibility)

– Also confirmed for tonight’s Impact Wrestling is a Ken Anderson vs. Ethan Carter III match where the fans get to choose the stipulation (likely an arm-wrestling match or a falls count anywhere match), and Divas action with Gail Kim & Awesome Kong vs. Taryn Terrell & Jade & Marti Bell.

Haku’s Son On Getting Permission To Become A Wrestler, Billy Corgan Joining TNA

TNA wrestler Mica (aka Camacho) recently spoke with Brian Fritz of Sporting News about the process of convincing his father, pro wrestling legend Haku (aka Meng) to let he and his brother enter the professional wrestling business.

“He didn’t like it at all,” Mica said of him and his brother Tama Tonga becoming pro wrestlers. “He worked his butt off to make sure our mom was there to stay home and take care of us, my brothers and my sister and for us to get a good education and experience other things other than wrestling. He was totally against it, he and our mother.”

Mica also shared his thoughts on former Smashing Pumpkins front man Billy Corgan joining the company to become part of the TNA creative team.

“I know Billy is a fan of wrestling,” he said. “I’ve met him before at wrestling fans as part of WWE and he loves wrestling. To have someone on board of his status, with his background to be part of the creative team with TNA, I think is a real blessing.”

Billy Corgan Says He’s Taking TNA Job Serious, Dixie Carter Comments

The newest member of the TNA creative team, Smashing Pumpkins front man Billy Corgan, recently spoke with Associated Press writer Dan Gelston about his new role with the pro wrestling company.

“I’m not here as celebrity,” Corgan said. “I’m here as a skilled person that brings a lot of experience to the table… I don’t need fame. I have plenty of fame. It’s really about the talent.”

TNA President Dixie Carter is in full support of Corgan, as she too believes he’s not taking the job as a publicity stunt, but rather as something he’s passionate about and looks forward to taking part in.

“This won’t be a side job [for Corgan],” Carter said. “I talk to him more and we correspond more than most of my employees here.”
