  • Backstage Update On Josh Mathews Replacing Mike Tenay, Major TNA Cost-Cutting Expected

As reported earlier this week, longtime TNA announcer Mike Tenay is expected to be replaced by former WWE broadcast team member Josh Mathews once the company officially launches on Destination America in January.

Internally, the move has been expected for a while, as Tenay lives in Las Vegas, Nevada, and has to be flown to TNA events while Mathews is based out of TNA Headquarters in Nashville, Tennessee.

For those wondering, Tenay is expected to remain employed by TNA and will be used on television in a different capacity.

Regarding TNA’s new television deal with Destination America, it is said that TNA now has less money to work with in their company budget and some additional cost-cutting measures are expected to be taking place in the near future.

Backstage News On Changes Coming In TNA: Mike Tenay Replaced By Josh Mathews?

As we have noted in the past, TNA is planning on a complete and total overhaul for the company when they officially relaunch their promotion during their Impact Wrestling television debut on their new cable home — Destination America — in January.

One of the major changes in terms of television presentation is the way the company plans to handle their announce team.

It’s believed that the longtime commentary team of Mike Tenay and Taz will cease to exist when TNA launches of Destination America, as one source claims the “new and improved” TNA will be going with a two-man announcing team that will consist of Taz and former WWE announcer Josh Mathews.

As far as Mike Tenay is concerned, it is believed that he will still remain in an on-air role in some capacity.

  • TNA’s Debut Show On Destination America To Air Live From Manhattan Center?

As previously reported, TNA has announced a set of Impact Wrestling television tapings at the Manhattan Center in New York City, New York for January 7th, 8th and 9th.

As things stand right now, the plan is to do the first show either live or on a one or two hour delay.

It’s said that most of these decisions depend mainly on whether or not Destination America, TNA’s new cable home in the United States, is willing to confirm the Wednesday, 9pm EST. time slot, which is expected.

Backstage News Regarding When & How Negotiations Fell Apart Between TNA & Spike TV

It’s also said that despite the fact that TNA failed to hit the two million viewer mark for Impact Wrestling that was agreed upon during their original contract signed back in 2010, Spike TV still had interest in maintaining the relationship.

TNA Impact Wrestling Preview: End Of The Spike TV Era?

After 9 year run, tonight could very well be the final first-run episode of Impact Wrestling on Spike TV. Here’s a preview for the show:

    – Chris Melendez vs. Kenny King

    – Low Ki vs. DJ Zema Ion vs. Manik vs. Tigre Uno to crown a new TNA X-Division champion

Alberto Del Rio To Sign With TNA In 2015?

  • Ethan Carter III Undergoes Bicep Surgery, Could Miss 6 Months

TNA star Ethan Carter III is undergoing surgery today to repair a torn bicep muscle.

He could be out of action for up to six months. He tweeted on Monday morning:

EC3 was scheduled for Saturday night’s House of Hardcore event from Philadelphia, but was replaced by Bobby Roode due to the injury.

TNA’s New TV Deal Expected To Be 2 Years

TNA Wrestling will survive for another two years, if the latest reports on their new TV deal are true.

As reported over the weekend, Spike TV is getting out of the wrestling business and Wednesday’s Impact Wrestling will be the final first-run episode of Impact on Spike, ending their 9-year relationship.

TNA has been finalizing a new TV deal with a smaller network, believed to be Destination America, which is available in far fewer homes than Spike TV (just over 50% of US households). Many people are under the impression that it’s a “done deal.”

The new TV deal will bring in far less money than their Spike TV deal. The upside is that TNA Wrestling will be the flagship show of the their new TV partner and TNA will get a lot more promotional support than they did with Spike. It’s very possible that we’ll see TNA have additional programming on the new network, beyond the weekly 2-hour Impact Wrestling show. Dixie Carter did an interview this summer where she stated TNA will “die on the vine” if they continue with the status quo and do not add additional programming, so it looks like TNA will get their wish.

Moving forward, TNA will be working with a much tighter budget than in recent years, but the company is confident they can produce a good product by spending a lot less on each show.

An announcement has been expected “any time now” for weeks and that’s still where we’re at.

Ethan Carter III Suffers Torn Bicep: Surgery Required, Pulls Out Of House Of Hardcore VII

According to various reports, TNA star Ethan Carter III has suffered a torn bicep. EC3 is expected to undergo surgery for the torn bicep at some point in the next week.

Due to the injury, EC3 is now off of the lineup for this weekend’s House Of Hardcore VII iPPV from Philadelphia, Pennyslvania.
