  • Scott D’Amore Speaks On Creating Knockouts Division, Edge, WCW/TNA & More

The following are highlights of a new VOC Nation interview with Scott D’Amore:

On his favorite promotion to work for, WCW, & TNA: “I mean, if you’re talking about as far as for the professional fulfillment, it would have to be TNA. Because, obviously, I was pretty deeply involved there, having headed the creative team & been pretty deeply involved for the better part of wrestling for about 8 years. So certainly professionally & financially, that was by far the best run of my career. Everyone says they want to be a booker. That’s when I learned I really enjoyed the TV aspect of it. I had Jody Hamilton. He kind of the first person to really help teach me something as far as what goes on & into producing a wrestling TV show.”

On the Canadian Destroyer [flip piledriver]’s origin & his student, Petey Williams: “Well, it’s kind of funny in the wrestling business. There’s all this talk about how everybody steals things & everybody takes credit for this or that. It always seems it’s never the guy that gets the credit. Personally, I did not ‘invent’ the Canadian Destroyer. From my understanding of things, it was basically created because Chris Sabin, who’s another one of our graduates, used to take like a Frankenstein-er but backwards. The guy would actually jump off the rope backwards & basically backflip moonsault into taking a hurricanrana. So, then the thought process was, from there, they came up with it on a road trip. It was a move that basically anybody could do to Chris Sabin because he liked taking that backflip bump. When we got Petey Williams to TV, the guys were talking about different things as far as how to get Petey stand out. If i deserve any credit for creating the Canadian Destroyer because I wanted people to look at Petey & have people give a “holy sh*’ reaction, have him do the flip piledriver.”

On trust & today’s wrestlers in wrestling industry: “There’s a lot of things in wrestling that are trust-based. You’re giving your body to your opponent & trusting that he’s not going to knock you out or really hurt you or injure you. Certainly, a move like the Canadian Destroyer, there’s a lot of faith. That’s basically what our business is built on. You give somebody your body & they give you theirs & when you do it right, you put on a fantastic athletic demonstration & entertain the Hell out of people. It’s amazing when you think about the unbelievable athletic feats that wrestlers pull off on a nightly basis. A lot of trust to have to go out there & perform. It’s amazing the wrestlers don’t get hurt. It’s a testament to the business. The guys right now are such phenomenal athletes. I think there are guys out there performing in the top level now are as good as an athlete as there’s ever been in wrestling. Much better than in some years past. I think as good as other athletes in different sports. Great caliber athletes right now.”

On creating TNA’s Knockout Division and working with Dutch Mantell: “We had a terrific group of girls who formed the Knockout Division. I really enjoyed working hand-in-hand with Dutch Mantel [WWE’s Zeb Colter] on the creative & producing side & helping structure & created that division from scratch. That was an amazing experience. I wasn’t in TNA from Day 1 so I didn’t get to experience that. I was there when we launched on Fox. I was the director of Creative when we went on Spike. That was awesome. Creative there to me was me & Dutch taking something that some people laughed at, which was saying we were going to present Women’s Wrestling in a serious tone… & it was going to be well-received. 97% of the credit goes to the girls & then probably 2.8% goes to it Dutch, & I’ll take the other .2%. I had a blast doing it. I enjoyed it. I worked my butt off trying to work for those girls & make sure we presented quality matches because some of them weren’t overly experienced so we really had to work. Learn everyone’s strengths & work really hard to hide their weaknesses. I think that me & Dutch & the whole group there did a fantastic job at doing that there for a couple of years when we first launched. ”

On Edge: “Adam [Edge] was very gracious in his DVD to even think of my name, that’s the kind of guy he is. Edge & Christian. Edge is a TV star now. He’s not going to be in the wrestling school teaching hip tosses but he’s always been supportive. He’s supporting wrestling & the community. I mean I remember Edge when he was at the height of WWE, calling a boy here in Windsor who went through some pretty heinous stuff & Edge couldn’t make it here to see the kid… That would have been fantastic but he couldn’t do it. He sent stuff to the kid & then, more importantly, spent time on the phone & talked to him”

Press Release: More Details On Eric Young’s New Animal Planet TV Show

The following press release was recently issued:

Eric Young Tests The Limits Of Outdoor Adventure In The New ANIMAL PLANET Series “NO LIMITS”

From Mexico to Alaska and Everywhere In Between, Professional Wrestler “Showtime” Eric Young Is Back and Braver Than Ever – – New 10-Part Series NO LIMITS Premieres on Friday, May 30, at 8 PM (ET/PT)

(New York, New York, April 28, 2014) – IMPACT Wrestling superstar, self-avowed adrenaline junkie, and recently crowned TNA World Heavyweight Champion, “Showtime” Eric Young has spent the last two summers crisscrossing the country in search of the oddest and craziest fishing techniques for his Animal Planet series, OFF THE HOOK: EXTREME CATCHES. From fishing in the frigid Bering Sea with a hardened crew of commercial fishermen to free diving 50 feet beneath the surface in the tropical waters of Hawaii to catch an octopus, Young has embraced some of the most insane fishing practices and trained with the masterminds who pioneered them. Now, Young’s never-ending thirst for adventure continues on land in the new 10-part series NO LIMITS, where he tries his hand at some of the most extreme physical activities throughout and beyond the continental U.S., dreamt up by some of the most passionate outdoorsmen on the planet. From the intrepid to the insane to the just plain dumb and the all-out dangerous, Eric tests his limitations like never before!

Premiering Friday, May 30, at 8 PM (ET/PT), NO LIMITS follows Young as he showcases adrenaline-fueled adventures that take him to the edge of his comfort zone. This season, Young travels to New York, Hawaii, Nevada, New Mexico, Puerto Rico, Maine and many other locations to experience hidden thrills and to discover the wild subcultures and lifestyles of those driven to live the extremes that the outdoors has to offer. Whether he’s searching for invasive pythons in South Florida, river boarding through Class IV rapids on the Ocoee River in Tennessee, or climbing an Alaskan iceberg from a paddleboard, Young (and his iconic manly beard) won’t stop until he puts his signature move on the competition.

New adventures this season include the following:

    – The inhospitable terrain surrounding Death Valley boasts record high temperatures and is covered in thousands of abandoned mines. Eric joins a group of thrill seekers to take a dark and dangerous trip 600 feet underground in a mine that is more than a century old.

    – Eric trains to be a lumberjack in the heart of Tennessee’s Smoky Mountains with some of the toughest woodsmen he’s ever met. And when his intense training is complete, he’ll compete against the pros.

    – In Arizona, Eric learns a new desert sport – sand boarding – which combines insane speeds with a hot sandy surface, which can cause serious skin burns if you wipe out! Will Eric survive the gnarly dunes without running into scorpions?

    – Eric travels to Mexico to catch one of the hardest fighting fish in the ocean – the striped marlin. While most anglers battle these huge fish from an actual boat, Eric takes on the difficult task from a small kayak.

    – By trekking 40 rugged miles on a snow machine, Eric travels to the Great White North to battle the invasive northern pike and joins three expert fishermen on an excursion into the backcountry.

NO LIMITS is produced by Lucky 8 for Animal Planet. Gregory Henry, Kim Woodard and Dan Bree are the executive producers for Lucky 8. For Animal Planet, Erin Wanner is the executive producer, Jamie Dugger is the producer, and Hilary Tholen is the associate producer.

Animal Planet, a multi-media business unit of Discovery Communications, is the world’s only entertainment brand that immerses viewers in the full range of life in the animal kingdom with rich, deep content via multiple platforms and offers animal lovers and pet owners access to a centralized online, television and mobile community for immersive, engaging, high-quality entertainment, information and enrichment. TNA Knockout Brooke Tessmacher posted the following blog on her official Facebook page recently:

“I’ve got tons of questions to why I decided to have a breast revision. There are several reason to why, but the most important complications are from my prior operation. I had a Capsular contracture on one side and on the other I had a ruptured implant. This is something that I have had for a very long time. I wasn’t ready to put my wrestling career on hold to go through another surgery to have them corrected. I felt this was the perfect time for me to finally fix something that was awful for so long.

  • AJ Styles Speaks On ROH PPV Debut, TNA’s Poor Attendance, G-1 Climax

The following are highlights of a recent Live Audio Wrestling interview with AJ Styles:

Working the G-1 Climax: “The G-1 tournament is stuff you don’t wanna miss. It’s the best talent coming together and putting one-on-one matches together. I’m expecting nothing but great things out of that. It’s stuff like that, being in this tournament, that makes me feel like I am wanted, and people do want to see AJ Styles wrestle. For a second there when I left TNA, it didn’t seem like TNA wanted me very much. Going back to the indies, New Japan especially, and Ring of Honor, it just goes to show that there’s something I’ve gotta prove, and I expect to do a lot of that in the tournament.”

Whether he can work the ROH June PPV or not: “It doesn’t look good. I would hate to be scheduled for a match, and then have a flight be delayed and the next thing you know I’m not making it. I would assume that when I’m over in Japan it’s a long flight, and it’s some quality matches. I want to be in tip top shape when I wrestle for New Japan and when I wrestle for Ring of Honor.”

Drawing more than some TNA house shows: “I don’t quite understand why this is, but almost every show I’ve been at has drawn that kind of number. I’m not saying it’s me, I’m saying the promoters know what they’re doing. That’s what’s so crazy about this, I’m having so much fun and I’m going, wow, for somebody to say that I wasn’t worth the money, there sure are a lot of people showing up at these independent shows to see exactly what I do. It’s confusing, to say the least, but I’m very excited about the fact that I’m able to work in front of all these people and I’m able to give them their money’s worth.”

  • (Spoilers) TNA Impact Wrestling Taping Results For May 1, 2014

The following are TNA Impact Wrestling taping results for the show that will air this Thursday night, May 1st, on Spike TV:

    – There is a backstage segment with MVP and Eric Young. Mr. Anderson, Gunner and Bobby Roode all claim to want a shot at Young’s TNA World Championship since they all won their matches at the Sacrifice pay-per-view on Sunday. MVP says he came up with a concept called the endurance challenge. He has everyone pick a card from a deck of cards. The person who draws the high card sits back. The other two face each other, with the winner getting the guy who sits out. It ends up that Ken Anderson will face Gunner, with the winner competing against Bobby Roode. The winner of that match gets the title shot in tonight’s main event.

    – Magnus is angry that he didn’t get an offer for another title match. Abyss ends up attacking Magnus, who ultimately runs away.

    – Bully Ray comes to the ring with a table that has the name “Dixie” written on it. He says he has a rib injury, but if Dixie Carter is in the building tonight, she is going to go through a table.

    – Gunner def. Mr. Anderson when James Storm’s attempt to interfere backfired, resulting in Gunner pulling out the victory.

    – Ethan Carter III comes to the ring for an interview. He says next week he will be facing Kurt Angle. Tonight, he announces that he has an exhibition match with Rockstar Spud.

    – EC3 and Spud were doing their exhibition match when Kurt Angle comes out and vows that in seven days, he will bring pain to EC3.

    – Bobby Roode def. Gunner. With the win, Roode earns the title shot against Eric Young in the main event.

    – Dixie Carter is shown in the building, flanked by security guards. The guards bring the table with her name on it to the ring. She sits on the table and cuts a promo about how she was double-crossed at the Lockdown pay-per-view earlier this year. She talks about how she made history at Sacrifice on Sunday by putting the “master of the tables” through two tables.

    – Willow def. James Storm via DQ. The disqualification came when Storm shoved down the referee. Mr. Anderson ends up doing a run-in and lays out Storm for screwing him in his contender match with Gunner earlier in the evening.

    – The Beautiful People come to the ring in evening gowns. They do a long tease claiming they are going to take off all of their clothes. Eventually they don’t and instead simply mock the crowd. Angelina Love gloats about becoming the Knockouts Champion for the sixth time by defeating Madison Rayne at the Sacrifice pay-per-view. Gail Kim comes out and says she’s going to strip The Beautiful People of everything. Love and Velvet Sky end up getting chased out of the ring. As they run towards the back, Rayne and Brittany come out and tear their dresses off.

    – Sanada & The Wolves def. The Bro Mans & DJ Z in six-man tag-team action.

    – Eric Young def. Bobby Roode to retain the TNA World Championship in the main event of the evening.

  • Bobby Roode Speaks On Sting/AJ Styles Leaving TNA, Eric Young As Champ, More

The following are highlights of a Main Event Radio interview with TNA star Bobby Roode:

Looking back at his first world title run: “Things worked out for the best for myself. Becoming World Champion. Obviously the disappointment was there at Bound for Glory. I was the first ever winner of the BFG series. Going through that series and win it the way that I did. Being with Beer Money, winning the tag team titles with James and before that with Eric Young in Team Canada. This was my first real shining moment as a singles competitor. To win the series was a huge deal. And then to walk in to the main event of BFG against a competitor like Kurt Angle. It was a perfect story for me. Walking out without the title that night was very disappointing for me personally. Looking back at it, the way it all went down; I think it actually helped me out.

“It lit a fire under me and made me want the world title even more. In the end, I won the world title; I held it longer than anybody else in the history of the company. Held it longer than anybody else, something that I’m proud of. Those were great matches with Austin [Aries]. We had really good chemistry together, looking back at those series of matches had together make me really proud. Then we had the tag titles together which was awesome. The ultimate goal in this business as wrestler is to be the world champion. From day one, to be the #1 guy, to be the champion has been my number one focus. My sights are set on Eric [Young] or whoever has the World title, maybe Magnus after Sunday. My goal is to once again be a World Heavyweight Champion.”

Thoughts on Eric Young being champion: “I’m happy for Eric. We’re two guys who came up the same way, grew up in Canada, with the dream of being a wrestler and a world champion. He’s a TNA original, we were tag champs together, there’s a lot of history between the two of us. He’s been in the business long enough and he saw the way that I carried the title and he sees there’s a bullseye on his back. When the time comes to doing business, I’m going to do what I have to do. I know what it takes to get it, to win it, to hold it, to keep it. That eagerness to carry the world championship again and to have that responsibility again. That was something I thrived on and something I missed. I will take that opportunity and make the best of it when it comes again.”

Wrestling Kurt Angle: “Kurt is in my personal opinion the best there’s ever been. He can go out there in his entire career and entertain the masses by his professional wrestling, the way he handles himself in the ring, his character. There’s no doubt that he is the best there’s ever been in this business. For me to have been able to go out there with Kurt and to have produced the matches that we did. To have fans talk about our matches as some of the best matches they’ve seen, or as match of the year; it meant a lot to me. Something that I’m proud of. Unfortunately with Kurt’s injury we had to cut the program short. Hopefully down the road we get to meet up again and do something special.”

Beer Money and would they ever reform: “In my personal opinion, Beer Money is probably the most recognizable, most over act that TNA has been able to produce from the ground up. You have two original guys, two guys who went out there as Beer Money. We had the tag team titles longer than anybody else in the history of the company. It’s something special. This week on Impact we came back for one night only. We had a common goal to soften up our opponents before their matches (Bully Ray & Gunner). In the wrestling business, you never say never for down the road. But for right now Bobby Roode’s goal is to put Bully through a table and then go on to become a World Heavyweight Champion again. I’m sure that James Storm feels the same way and has the same goal to become a Heavyweight Champion. Down the road, if the time is right, and we both feel it’s right; maybe Beer Money will come alive again.”

AJ Styles and Sting’s departures: “It’s unfortunate. At the end of the day this is a business Not everybody is going to be happy and people go their separate ways. It’s the wrestling business and we’re seen it happen a million times. Unfortunately, AJ was a TNA original and was the face of our company for a very long time. That departure bothers me the most. I had a great relationship with AJ, we were friends, we were part of Fortune together, and we had some great matches. I understand where AJ’s coming from, it’s all business, and I wish him nothing but the best. Sting was a great guy to have in our locker room. He was a veteran leader. A guy that you can go and talk to, a guy who I had some memorable matches, and a guy who mentored me a lot and taught me a lot in the ring. He’s an icon; his name will live forever in this business. And I wish him nothing but the best of luck. At the end of the day this is a business and you’ve got to do what you can for yourself.”

Future Stars: “Our company is looking really strong for the future. Ethan Carter has a hell of a career in front of him. He’s young; he’s got a lot to learn. His eyes and his ears are always open, always asking for advice. He’s handling himself better each and every week. Down the road he will be a main event guy and possible champion. Gunner’s the same thing. He’s got a look and demeanor about him that is world champion material. The Wolves wrestling ability speaks for themselves. They’re a great tag team and great individual wrestlers as well. The future looks very bright.”

Whatever happened to his classic weapon, the hockey stick: “If it calls for it, I’m not afraid to pull it out. Here’s a funny story: Scott D’Amore, Coach D’Amore introduced the hockey stick every match. I used to wear a hockey pad and we were going to use frozen hockey pucks and put it in my sleeve and hit people in the back of the head with clotheslines. That’s another Canadian cliché, a hockey cliché that we were going to use. Maybe I’ll take out a hockey stick for my match against Bully at Sacrifice. Or maybe they’ll make a table out of hockey sticks and I can put him through that.”

When will TNA return to Canada: “Hopefully we can come back to Canada soon. I would love to get an opportunity to run TV in Montreal, or in Toronto, even in Ottawa. Running 4-5 shows would be great. The guys love coming up to Canada, the Quebec area especially. We didn’t get there last year at all. Hopefully this summer or in the fall we can come up to Canada and have Montreal be one of our stops.”

    TNA Sacrifice 2014

The 2014 edition of TNA Sacrifice opens with an extensive video package previewing some of the top matches scheduled for tonight’s show, focusing primarily on the TNA World Heavyweight Championship rematch between current champion Eric Young and former champion Magnus.

After the video package concludes, we shoot live in the arena in Orlando, Florida, where Mike Tenay welcomes us to the show and delivers some final hype for some of the bigger matches on tonight’s show. From there, we go straight to the ring.

    TNA Tag-Team Championship
    – DJ Z & The Bro Mans (c) vs. The Wolves

DJ Z comes out and cuts a promo on his way to the ring. He talks about how he and the Bro Mans, the current TNA Tag-Team Champions, are going to take out The Wolves in a three-on-two handicap match. With that said, out come Robbie E. and Jessie Godderz, The Bro Mans.

Out next are the challengers, the team of Davey Richards and Eddie Edwards — The Wolves. All five guys are in the ring now, but before the bell rings, The Wolves cut a quick in-ring promo. They ask Christy Hemme to read something. Hemme says per orders of MVP, this is a no disqualification match.

With that said, the bell rings and here we go. The Wolves and The Bro Mans all mix things up in the ring. The Wolves knock both of the Bro Mans out to the floor. They hit a double-dive through the ropes and splash onto the tag-champs. They have DJ Z alone in the ring now and do a lot of high-impact double-team spots on him.

DJ Z ends up blasting The Wolves from behind with the lap top, and now all three guys are triple-teaming both of The Wolves, with the fans chanting “you suck” all-the-while. When the smoke clears, it’s just Jessie in the ring with Edwards. Jessie chokes Eddie with some tape from around his wrist and then tags in DJ Z.

DJ chops the hell out of Eddie. He hits a stun-gun on the top rope and follows it up with a back-breaker. All three guys sandwhich Eddie in the corner and blast him. Robbie tags in and picks up where DJ left off, taking it to Eddie in the center of the ring as the fans rally behind The Wolves team member, chanting “Eddie Edwards.”

Jessie tags back in and lands a beautiful dropkick on Eddie. Eddie starts fighting back, landing a big back suplex to buy himself some time. The Bro Mans try and double team Eddie to keep control of the offense, but Eddie hits a move on both guys and make the tag to a fresh Davey Richards.

Richards takes the hot tag and is flying all over the place, hitting anything that moves. Both of The Wolves go on the top rope on opposite ends of the ring. They each hit a double foot-stomp. They make the pin and three slaps on the mat later, we have new TNA World Tag-Team Champions.

Winners and NEW TNA Tag-Team Champions: The Wolves

    Jeremy Borash Interviews Samuel Shaw

Backstage, Jeremy Borash encourages everyone to interact tonight via social media. After that, we see Samuel Shaw creepily standing behind a padded wagon. Borash asks Shaw if he realizes that tonight he may be thrown inside the padded van and be committed. He talks about how everyone calls him a creepy bastard. He says he won’t let himself lose tonight. Borash asks for his thoughts on Mr. Anderson recently visiting his home. He says tonight he’s dedicating this match to his mom, and then says “Christy, this one is for you.” He slams the padded van door shut and walks off.

    Committed Match
    – Samuel Shaw vs. Mr. Anderson

The video package detailing the history of the Samuel Shaw and Mr. Anderson feud airs. After the video package concludes, out comes Samuel Shaw to the ring. Mike Tenay notes that Christy Hemme, their ring announcer, is not at ringside for this match. He says considering all that has gone down, that’s probably a good thing. Next up, Mr. Anderson’s music hits. He stands at the top of the stage, but declines the mic drop. Instead, he looks to be all business tonight, as he runs down to the ring. Shaw backs out and slides out to the floor.

Anderson goes out after him, but Shaw runs back into the ring. Anderson rolls back into the ring and the bell sounds, but as soon as it does, Shaw backs out to the floor again. It turns out Christy Hemme is at ringside. Shaw runs over and grabs her. Anderson blasts him with a punch and Hemme breaks free. Anderson continues to beat up Shaw outside the ring.

The match gets into the ring and now Shaw has the upper-hand. He goes to dive into Anderson with a spear, but Anderson side-steps him and Shaw flies through the ropes and out to the floor. Anderson goes out after him and works him over on the floor again. Out of nowhere, Shaw locks in his trademark choke on Anderson on the floor. Anderson tries to break free but can’t. Shaw ends up choking Anderson out. He chokes him until he drops to the floor, but doesn’t let go. He keeps choking Anderson on the ground. He finally lets go and turns his attention to Hemme.

Hemme runs into the ring. Shaw grabs her by the hand. He keeps trying to pull her towards him, but Hemme won’t come. Hemme eventually slaps him. The distraction allows Anderson to recover. He re-enters the ring and blasts Shaw from behind. The two spill out to the floor again and Anderson continues to beat him all over the place.

Anderson kicks Shaw’s butt all the way up the entrance ramp. He goes to hit Shaw with a Mic Check on the ramp, but Shaw breaks free. Anderson ends up slamming Shaw onto the solid ramp. Anderson tells Shaw that they’re going for a little ride. Anderson grabs a steel chair and blasts Shaw with it twice.

Anderson slams Shaw into the guard rail. Anderson drags Shaw backstage and sees Jeremy Borash. Anderson holds Shaw in a headlock and asks Borash to interview them. Borash asks them how the match is going. Anderson mimmicks Shaw’s voice and says, “not very good right now, J.B.!” Anderson loads Shaw up on a cart and throws it into a bunch of boxes.

Anderson turns his back on Shaw long enough to look at the padded van. Shaw blasts Anderson from behind. Shaw goes to load Anderson up on the van, but Christy Hemme enters the scene. Hemme distracts Shaw and blasts him with a nut shot. Anderson grabs him from behind and hits him with a Mic Check into the van. He slams the door shut and wins. He and Hemme celebrate as his music plays back inside the arena.

    Winner: Mr. Anderson

Eric Young Explains Why He Won’t Shave His Beard, Talks Being TNA Champion

The following are highlights of a recent Examiner interview with TNA World Heavyweight Champion Eric Young:

Learning from his co-workers: “The locker room at TNA is a wealth of knowledge. Kurt Angle is an example of a guy you can’t help but learn from, and there are certainly others. I am friends with many of the guys on the roster and I am always learning and exploring how to get better.”

Being versatile: “Versatility is something I pride myself on and have focused on from the first day I started wrestling. I’ve won every belt in TNA – including Knockouts Tag titles. I can face anyone and go wherever the match leads and takes me. Versatility is my strong suit. It is hard to prepare for someone like me.”

Keeping his beard for TNA & his Off The Hook reality show: “I think if I shaved my beard I might lose both of my jobs. The beard is one of my things now and has been since 2009. I had a beard when it was considered weird. If I shave now people would not recognize me.”

Reaction to him being champ: “The beard makes me completely recognizable. There is no hiding from it – and I don’t want to hide from it. People I meet love seeing the title. They tell me congrats Champ – and it is a thrill. It will never get old.”
