  • (Spoilers) TNA Impact Wrestling Taping Results For April 24th

The following are results of the Impact Wrestling television taping for the Thursday, April 24th edition of the show.

    – Magnus comes to the ring for a promo. He says he was never really beaten by Eric Young for the title, and says the biggest failure that fateful night was his help. He says good help is hard to find. He brings out Abyss. Magnus calls Abyss an idiot and says he now realizes why everyone abandoned him. Magnus fires Abyss. Abyss says he realizes now that he’s a monster and that he’s going to once again start destroying lives, starting with Magnus. Magnus says Abyss is no longer a contracted TNA wrestler. MVP comes out and confirms that fact. MVP says he will consider this Abyss’ TNA tryout, and that if he can defeat Magnus, he can regain his spot back in TNA.

    – Bobby Lashley def. Kenny King via countout. Lashley dominated the majority of the match. As he was about to hit his finisher on King, King rolled out of the ring and simply walked off to the back. The referee counted him out.

    – Madison Rayne comes to the ring for a promo. She calls out The Beautiful People. They come out and Madison attacks them. They recover, however, and get the upper hand. Brittany does a run-in to try and save Madison, but the numbers game is too much for them. The Beautiful People do their brown-bag skit on Madison. Gail Kim eventually comes out to make the save. She challenges The Beautiful People to a match later tonight.

    – Kurt Angle def. Rockstar Spud. Angle dominated the match and finished off Spud via tapout with his ankle lock submission. Ethan Carter III comes out and attacks Angle after the match, but Willow ends up coming down to make the save.

    – The Beautiful People def. Madison Rayne and Gail Kim in Knockouts tag-team action.

    – Bobby Roode and James Storm def. Bully Ray and Gunner in tag-team action.

    – MVP def. Austin Aries in the main event of the evening.

  • Eric Young Speaks On Winning TNA World Title, Comparisons To Daniel Bryan, More

The following are highlights of a recent Ring Rust Radio interview with Eric Young:

On how it feels to be the TNA Champion: “It’s wild. Yesterday was the best professional day of my entire life. It almost doesn’t seem real. I haven’t had it that long, and I’m still trying to soak it in. Talking to you guys, talking to people from all over, and it’s a good place to be. A really good place.”

On the reaction he’s received to being the new champ: “Yeah, man. It’s been from all walks of life. Not just the wrestling community, but guys from other companies, guys that worked here before, guys that work here who weren’t here, Robert Flores from ESPN, Michelle Beadle from ESPN, and all kinds of people reached out to me to say they were proud and happy for me. That’s a good feeling. There is always going to be negativity and naysayers and that’s part of being in a creative field, but its been 90 percent positive. It’s amazing. It’s overwhelming, really.”

On what fans can expect now that he’s champion: “For me, it’s more of the same. It’s crazy to hear people say stuff like, “Eric Young is quite possibly the most entertaining wrestler in the world today.” There is nothing more important to me than that. Wrestling is about entertainment. Whether you’re entertaining people with physicality or comedy or verbiage or emotion or characterization or whatever it is, the name of the game is entertainment. It’s a television show and people are watching it because they want to be entertained. So to be held at that level and regarded in that way is the biggest compliment I could get. It’s not just the fans, it’s my peers and people I work with. It feels like the lifetime achievement award. It’s cool. I’m not going to win the Nobel Prize, but this as close as its going to get.”

On defending the title: “The old saying goes; you have a target on your back. That’s how it works in sports and that’s how it works in pro wrestling. Having that target on your back is a huge compliment too. Now everyone is looking to come after me. As crazy as that sounds, it sounds like fun. I want to create as many memories and amazing moments for myself and wrestling fans as I can. That’s what pro wrestling is to me. I don’t remember whole matches from 20 years ago, but I remember moments from matches. I remember where I was and who I was with and how it made me feel. I’m ready to do that as world heavyweight champion. That’s my No. 1 goal. It’s to have as many amazing matches and memories as I can possibly make while I have this belt.”

On whether or not his character will change now that he’s champion: “For the storylines I’ve been involved in, that’s what it called for. I’m never going to lose my sense of humor. I was a class clown when I was a kid, I’ve always been the funny guy and I’ve always liked making people laugh, and that’s not going to stop. It will just be a different brand, a different style, a different way of being funny. I’m funny on my show that airs on Animal Planet. I’m not silly on the show, I’m not goofy and all that other stuff; I’m just kinda me. That’s the version of Eric Young that you’re going to get. It’s important for me to be funny, and that’s what made me popular. That’s what got me over with the fans in the first place and I won’t lose that. As far as adding an edge, when you’re rolling around in tacks with the monster Abyss, it’s hard to crack jokes. There’s nothing really funny about that. But yeah, it’s a cool challenge for me because that’s what I have been for the last five to eight years, and this is a whole new world for me. I can do it. I know I can. I’ve always known that and I’m dying to show people.”

On comparisons of his title victory to Daniel Bryan’s: “I definitely see the comparisons. Like you said, we both have sweet beards, we both won two matches, were both world heavyweight champion and I don’t think either of us are prototypical champions. That’s what makes us special. Anytime someone wants to make a comparison between me and Daniel Bryan, go ahead and knock yourself out. He’s a super talented guy. I never met him personally, but I know lots of guys that know him and he’s a nice guy. I listened to his interview on Steve Austin’s podcast and he sounds like he’s a cool dude. Anytime anyone wants to compare me to him, they can go right ahead.”

  • TNA Issues Press Release Regarding Eric Young’s World Championship Victory

TNA issued the following press release today regarding Eric Young’s World Heavyweight Championship victory at last night’s Impact Wrestling:

TNA WORLD HEAVYWEIGHT CHAMPIONSHIP CHANGES HANDS

ERIC YOUNG WINS TNA WORLD HEAVYWEIGHT CHAMPIONSHIP ON IMPACT WRESTLING

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (April 10, 2014) – In a surprising twist, professional wrestler, TNA Superstar, fantasy sports fanatic and Animal Planet star “Showtime” Eric Young (twitter: @ShowtimeEY) tonight became the new TNA World Heavyweight Champion, defeating reigning champion Magnus during an explosive episode of IMPACT WRESTLING. Airing weekly on Thursday at 9/8c on Spike TV and viewed by millions in more than 120 countries around the globe, IMPACT viewers were treated to an explosive episode with the return of President Dixie Carter after she lost control of wrestling operations more than a month ago and a 10-man gauntlet match for the #1 Contender’s spot resulting in Young’s win. Demanding that he face Magnus in the ring the same night, Young captured the TNA World Heavyweight Championship after delivering the piledriver to the reining champ.

This is the first time the remarkably athletic adrenaline junkie Young, who often goes by “EY,” has held the TNA World Heavyweight Championship belt. A hockey-loving native of Canada and current Nashville, Tenn. resident, Young, age 34, has been a stable of the TNA roster for more than a decade.

“This moment is 17 years in the making and a childhood dream realized,” said Young. “Professionally, it doesn’t get any better than becoming the TNA World Heavyweight Championship.”

Young began his professional wrestling training after graduating from high school and quickly made his mark. He joined TNA in 2004 and went on to become a multiple time Tag Team Champion. Young is also the first and only male to hold the TNA Knockouts Tag Team Championship, winning with his now wife, ODB. Recently Young has been feuding with his former best friend, former lawyer turned Monster and Magnus business associate, Abyss.

A fan-favorite known for his antics, and charisma inside and outside of the squared circle, Young began hosting Animal Planet’s hit series “Off The Hook: Extreme Catches” in 2012 and is preparing his return to the channel with a new program premiering in early summer.

  • Updae On Christy Hemme’s TNA Creative Role, Recent TNA Attendance Figure

    – As noted earlier in the week, Christy Hemme was added to the TNA creative team. Apparently one of her key roles, at least early on, will be focused more on costuming than booking wrestling angles for the company. She’s supposed to work with everyone in the company to help improve the look of their ring outfits and costumes, but will also have some creative input as well.

    – The TNA live event on April 4th in Augusta, Georgia drew approximately 450 fans.

    – The main reason TNA star Samoa Joe was kept off of the non-televised live events this past weekend, as well as the second and third live events last weekend was due to an apparent concussion he suffered during his March 28th match with Magnus in Lincoln, Nebraska.

    – Speaking of concussions, TNA Knockout Angelina Love suffered one on April 4th while working on the Traditional Championship Wrestling/Mid South Fan Fest in Chalmette, Louisiana.

  • Update On Kurt Angle’s TNA Status, Possible Return To WWE & More

As previously reported, the TNA contracts of Christopher Daniels and Frankie Kazarian are due to expire within the next few weeks. The biggest name due after them is Kurt Angle. His deal with TNA is set to expire in August or September.

The general consensus as it pertains to Angle is that he has made noises, and said all of the right things in terms of getting back into the mix with WWE.

In the past, WWE has shown little to no interest in re-signing Angle. There is also some concerns as to whether or not Angle could pass the extensive WWE physical, something that is required to work for the company these days.

  • Latest Backstage News On The TNA Future Of Daniels & Kazarian

The TNA contracts of Christopher Daniels and Frankie Kazarian are both due to expire within the next couple of weeks. As of early this week, neither had signed a new deal with the promotion.

In the case of Daniels, many are watching closely as to how his contract negotiation turns out. He is said to be one of the guys who has one of the better remaining contracts in the company, and following the recent deals with AJ Styles, Hulk Hogan and Sting, all of whom ended up not re-signing with the company, the feeling is that Daniels is the next major one to keep an eye on.

Additionally, there is a feeling that the reason Daniels and Kazarian have been kept off of television for the last several weeks is due to their contractual situation with the company, something that many point to as a negative sign as far as either guy re-signing.

  • Backstage News On Growing Concerns In TNA Regarding Spike TV Deal

The wrestlers in TNA continue to be nervous over the fact that nothing has been announced regarding the company signing a contract renewal to remain with Spike TV.

Additionally, there has been talk that one of the reasons TNA is looking at going into the expensive New York television tapings this summer is to impress Spike TV management and prove that they are still looking to improve. They also feel that the Northeast audience will come across as more rabid on television.

Bad Influence Talk Samoa Joe, Independent Wrestling Promoters & More

The following are highlights of a new Bad Influence interview on The Kevin Gill Show:

Daniels on positive thought: “You just have to go through life knowing that as long as you put yourself out there 100 percent and do everything you can to be a positive force, to be a commodity to a promoter, work is always going to come your way. My man Mike Moran said “Talent always finds it’s way to the top”. “All you have to do is keep working hard, never burn a bridge, and these opportunities will come.”

Kaz on a TNA star who was released from the company: “If I recall, he was too dumb to even realize he was being fired.”

Christopher Daniels on Indy Promoters: “Independent wrestling shows live or die on the vision of the promoter. Some guys just let the locker room take over, and let the guys do what they want, and as a result you get everybody on the microphone, everybody doing matches longer then they should be, and everybody doing a Wrestlemania main event whether they are the opener or the main event.”

Kaz on Samoa Joe: “To this day, Samoa Joe is a guy a company can be built around.”

Daniels on Samoa Joe: “A unique athlete, it’s funny because he was a book that was judged by his cover, for a very long time and it took a while to get him into TNA and we were always fighting to get him in. Everybody was like “we gotta change his look and blah blah blah” , but finally when they gave him the chance, he showed them that you didn’t need to judge him by the cover because he brings a unique intensity and a unique character to TNA and I think it would be a different TNA without him. He has changed the business”

  • Davey Richards Speaks On Choosing TNA Over WWE, Taker’s Streak Ending, More

The following are highlights of a new Ring Rust Radio interview with Davey Richards:

On the legacy he wants to leave: “I want to be someone who tried to bring life to pro wrestling. There’s a lot of people who are just out for themselves and their characters and just people I wouldn’t consider good people and it’s good to see good people that work are come out on top like Bryan at WrestleMania or me and Eddie Edwards and there’s a bunch of others. I want to be someone who tried to help other people and who inspired people and things like that. If I can leave that I’m not concerned with how much money I make or how big of a star I become, more or less just someone who people could be inspired and motivated by I guess would be what I would like to leave behind when I’m gone.”

On choosing TNA over WWE: “I never really wanted to go to WWE. The tryout there was awesome. It was really fun and I can’t say enough good things and I learned a lot, but I told a few of the guys during the initial tryout with Eddie that this was not for me just because moving down to Orlando is not what I wanted to do and wrestling is not the only thing I want to do with my life. To give up everything and just live in that world is not my idea of a great life or a perfect life. TNA offered me to be able to wrestle with some of the best wrestlers in the world, I could be on television, I could go and entertain crowds but I could still come home and be Wes. I could be Davey, then I could be Wes. It was just better for me and I couldn’t be happier in TNA it’s been great.”

On Undertaker’s streak ending: “Records are made to be broken, that’s the biggest thing. I mean, when there’s any big change people just crap on it but I read something online that said he chose it and I mean, he looked like an old guy in the ring because the guy’s been around forever and has done everything. He’s made a ton of money, he has the legacy, apparently he’s got an awesome character that will live forever, so I doubt he went home and started crying, I’m sure he’s not at the court house; he’s loving life. I think they could have picked a better guy to end the record but I don’t work there so it doesn’t matter, it’s good for both of them.”

  • Gail Kim Speaks On Lei’D Tapa’s Release, Changes To Knockouts Division & More

The following are highlights of a new Smartasses Radio interview with Gail Kim:

On her thoughts on the TNA product: “Impact Wrestling has really shaken things up. You see a lot of new young talent that they’re trying like Ethan Carter and The Wolves who are really great additions. Ethan, I’ve worked with in WWE when he was in NXT and I remember thinking, ‘Wow, this guy has a lot of charisma.’ I was shocked to see him be released, but that was a blessing in disguise for us because we got a hell of a talent. I think people are going to see us invest in younger talent and new faces and really just try things and see what works.”

On recent changes to the TNA Knockouts division: “I feel like for the longest time we’ve been hearing from fans, ‘Oh, we need more Knockouts. It’s getting stale with the same girls.’ It’s been a struggle for us, but I think we’ve done a great job so far. I wanted everyone to be patient because we pride ourselves on the Knockouts division having talented girls. You can’t hire girls just because we need new girls. We were looking for quality, and now we’ve brought back Angelina Love and they’re going with the Beautiful People which is a proven success. We’ve brought in Santana who plays Brittany now and she’s already debuted. We have a bright future. I think there’s going to be a lot more changes and it’s going to be for the best.”

On plans for her character going forward: “Alpha Female was just a temporary thing over in the UK. Who knows for her in the future? She’s got a great look and presence, but she’s not part of our regular roster right now, just to clear that up. For me, there are plans for everyone so that’s about as much as I can say. My storyline has pretty much wrapped up with Madison (Rayne) as everyone can tell. So, yeah, things are going to happen. I’m not worried. I’ve got so much more to show.”

On her thoughts on Lei’D Tapa leaving TNA: “She’s a great girl. She has passion and she has determination. She honestly was just very inexperienced. She only had three years of experience under her belt and it just wasn’t enough right now. I had two years of experience when I got hired by WWE and I got fired, and that was the best thing that ever happened to me. I didn’t know it at that time, but it just motivated me even more and I think she’s the same type of person that’s going to go out and get better. She just needs more experience and I don’t see this pulling her down in any way. All of us are rooting for her because we all loved her. She has such a great look, such a great presence, and she’s got it in her blood. I have no doubt that she’s going to be a big star one day. It just takes time.”

“Wrestling is an art. I’ve been wrestling now for 14 years or so, and I’ve told her that for me to feel totally confident to where I could lead in the ring and give it my all and be a veteran, it took me eight solid years. People don’t realize how much time it can take, and I’m still learning every day. I don’t want people to be discouraged; a lot of people make assumptions when people are gone. Just remember that nobody really knows what’s going on behind the scenes. I just think that things happen for a reason, and she’s such a good human being that I really feel like good things will happen for her.”

On improving her promo skills: “All of us have to work at it. I guess some people just have natural talent. I would say my strength is being in the ring and having matches. For me to have a promo, it takes a while for me to prepare. I feel like Impact Wrestling has given me so many opportunities to talk. Pat Kenney, or Simon Diamond, he normally works with us girls on our matches. He was put with us also to develop our characters, and that’s one thing Pat has really worked on with me. When we’re at live events or anything like that, he wants me to cut promos and he wants me to get better. He wants me to get as much practice as I can, especially during that run when I was doing the open challenge with some of those indie girls. I had talking segments every week and that’s not my comfort zone. He really helped me a lot, so I thank him for that.”

On her past feuds with Taryn Terrell and Awesome Kong: “Kong was my first, I call it magical feud because we had pure magical chemistry. I honestly never thought that something like that would happen again where people really recognized our hard work and we got their respect and it made a name for us. I’m very fortunate that it happened again, with Taryn last year. For me to have those opportunities in my career twice, I’m so grateful, and I just want to make even more magical moments going forward. The day that I start moving slower is the day that I’m going to retire. I just want to keep on making more magic and blowing people away with my matches – that’s what I want to be remembered for.”
