  • Todd Keneley Talks Jeff Jarrett’s New Promotion, TNA Using Cheap Finishes & More

The following are highlights of a new interview with Todd Keneley:

On Jeff Jarrett’s new “Project” and the execution of the viral campaign: “I think people are interested, and he has kept pretty closely guarded. I think it’s good that Jeff has expressed that he is looking at the fans perspective and what they want to see. He’s got his clues here and there, but then he’s been out there traveling, going around the country scouting talent. I think it’s cool that step by step we’re learning a little more, now of course he’s announced his first real size able announcement. I’d be very anxious to see what he has to say the day after WrestleMania.”

Thoughts on if Jeff’s new project needs a TV right out of the gate to make a big splash: “If you look at Jeff’s history, he found a way when he launched TNA in terms of doing the weekly PPVs. With WWE doing the network the business has really changed. There might be some more availability in the PPV market if you do it correctly. I think in a fans perspective and just about anyone’s perspective whether it’s necessary or not, TV obviously seems to be a very important part of the ball game. Just for perception i think it would certainly help. If it is CMT i think wrestling would be right at home there especially if Toby Keith is involved. Jeff has found ways to work around having a traditional TV distribution deal in the past. With this i think he’s biding his time, i don’t think he’s rushing anything here. I think he’s going to have all of his ducks in a row before he launches. It wouldn’t surprise me if he had TV all tied up.”

Daniel Bryan winning the title at WrestleMania: “I’m cautiously optimistic. We will see. You can look at this one or two ways. You can look at it as WWE are geniuses and they took the fans for a ride and they knew what the end game was gonna be all along and they’ve got the fans even that more passionate to get there. Or it could be that the fans are really that passionate and really that powerful that they can change the WrestleMania main event. It might be a little of both but i think it’s the latter. I think the reaction at the Royal Rumble had to surprise the WWE. People had one man they wanted to see in that Royal Rumble match and they didn’t get it. As a result, the fans voiced their opinion and now here we are. I think it’s a more intriguing set up to WrestleMania because of it, because the fans now feel empowered. The fans believe they played a big part in this. I think that’s pretty awesome and that’s the magic of professional wrestling. I don’t see how you can rob Daniel Bryan of that moment at WrestleMania, I think WrestleMania has got to end with thousands upon thousands of people chanting yes and Bryan holding up the title. How do you waste that opportunity? I just don’t see it happening.”

TNA’s using cheap finishes in World Title matches: “On PPV in a world title match people deserve a clean finish especially when you look at recent history. You went through an entire reign of Aces & Eights with Bully Ray as a world champion. There you know you’re going to have interference, you know you’re going to have screwy finishes. Then AJ wins the title but now you’ve got Dixie hellbent on getting rid of AJ, so you’re going to throw absolutely everything but the kitchen sink at AJ to get the title off of him and on to Magnus. Now you’ve got this handpicked company champion doing Dixie’s bidding so you know during that run it’s going to be squirrely. But i’m hoping that it’s going to play into the whole MVP storyline and getting back to pure wrestling that he will make make Magnus put his money where his mouth is and defend the title on a regular basis and do it the right way. If it plays off that way then it makes MVP’s position and role that much more important because we’ve been through this for so long. Now if it doesn’t and this continues then yeah i’d say at some point you’ve gotta jump off that train. But we’ll see.”

  • Backstage Update On Lei’D Tapa’s Release From TNA Wrestling

There have been some rumors going around that claim the reason TNA released Lei’D Tapa was because of her lack of skill, as well as the belief that she was viewed as a “ticking time bomb” to management.

The former Knockout confirmed recently that it was TNA’s decision to release her, however she denied the aforementioned rumors on her official Twitter account.

It’s worth noting that Tapa is already working for Ohio Valley Wrestling (OVW) again.

    – The ‘TNA Talent Meeting’ advertised for the show was actually a setup for Bobby Roode ambushing Bully Ray at TNA headquarters.

    – The Beautiful People re-formed featuring Angelina Love and Velvet Sky. Love invited Knockouts Champion Maidson Rayne to join, but she turned down the offer. Later in the show, the Beautiful People beat down Rayne backstage.

    – James Storm attacked Gunner’s father on the show, setting up James Storm vs. Gunner for next week in a re-match from Lockdown.

Update On Jeff Jarrett’s New Promotion: CMT TV Deal?, Kurt Angle Rumors

The belief among many, and this is just locker room talk, is that Jeff Jarrett’s new promotion will start in January and CMT would be their cable television home.

The CMT rumors come from the fact that Toby Keith, who is rumored to be a big part of the financial backing of the company, has close connections with that network.

The rumors going around TNA is that Kurt Angle could likely be the lead star of Jarrett’s new promotion. While Angle and Jarrett have obviously had their issues in the past, the two are said to be on good terms right now.

Angle’s contract with TNA is set to expire in the fall. Because of what happened with other high-paying contracts in TNA, such as Hulk Hogan, Sting and AJ Styles, many feel that Angle staying without taking a dramatic pay cut is unlikely.

One of the key ideas of Jarrett’s new promotion is to introduce a lot of new faces to the U.S. national scene. Jarrett has been doing a lot of talent scouting at independent wrestling events, as well as looking at videos of guys that people are recommending to him, including a lot of international talent.

Finally, there is talk that the promotion would open with a Jeff and Karen Jarrett reality show, a vehicle designed to build to the launch of their television show and the promotion itself a few months later.

  • Backstage News On Bad Morale In TNA, Fear Of Losing Spike TV & More

Apparently many people within TNA are outwardly rooting for Jeff Jarrett and his new promotion to succeed. Not only is it because of the fact that it would open up more jobs for talent in the business, but as a safety net as well.

With every week that passes without an announcement from either Spike TV or TNA about a new television deal, as the current contract between the two is set to expire in the fall, concern grows.

Morale within TNA was said to be high during their recent U.K. tour, as the guys felt like they were part of a major league promotion, when the company failed to draw a decent crowd for Lockdown, their second biggest pay-per-view of the year, the mood changed.

For the most part, faith in TNA creative, as well as Dixie Carter and John Gaburick, is low right now. There’s also a belief that Vince Russo is secretly involved in the creative process, which doesn’t help morale as the feeling is Russo hasn’t led any company to legitimate success since he left WWE nearly 15 years ago.

  • TNA Holding A Talent Meeting Today In Nashville

The following statement was posted at the TNA website on Thursday, which could very well be part of a storyline:

“Since Lockdown two weeks ago, Dixie Carter has not been seen in the offices of TNA in Nashville; with most communication with the TNA President being done via email and phone.

This morning in a memo, written by Dixie’s assistant, staff was informed of a sensitive talent meeting taking place in the office with Dixie this afternoon.

Dixie’s assistant requested that staff work from the TV Production offices from 12pm to 3pm to allow privacy for the meeting.

ImpactWrestling.com has not been able to confirm on who this talent is or the subject of the meeting. We will have more details as this story develops throughout the day.”

Bobby Roode Talks Retirement, TNA Co-Existing With WWE & More

TNA star Bobby Roode recently did an interview with WhatCulture.com. Here are some highlights of what he said about:

How Long He Continues to Wrestle:

“Right now, physically, I feel good. I think I have a lot of years left to serve here, a lot of great years left. So long as I am able to go out there and produce great matches and keep the fans intrigued, and stay healthy, I think I have a lot of years left. Once I’m physically unable to do this any more, I’d like to stay in some sort of role where I can help guys get to certain points in their careers. But for right now, obviously the most important thing for me is my career and to continually get better, and to re-iterate the other question you just asked me, to once again become the World Heavyweight Champion and be the top guy in this company.”

    TNA co-existing with WWE:

“Oh, definitely I think we can co-exist. I think that competition is very good, I can’t see why WWE or TNA, one or the other, should go away. It’s great for the fans, it’s great for the wrestling business. I think that TNA offers the wrestling world an alternative in a way that they haven’t had in many years. Hopefully, the TNA Impact Wrestling brand can continue to grow, with the changes that we’ve made and the fresh faces we’ve brought in, the future’s looking very good.”

Who could be a breakout star for TNA this year:

“I think there’s a couple of different guys that come to mind. Ethan Carter’s a guy that I think has an opportunity to become a huge star here in the next year. Tag team wise, The Wolves are coming up to TNA to become household names, and The Bro-Mans, I think, given the right circumstances, have opportunities to become big stars as well. Time will tell. There’s some new stars and some fresh faces that are going to be starting up here in the next month or so as well, so it’s kinda unpredictable, you know, it’s early right now, but if I had to say, those would probably be the guys.”

He said Abyss is a winner. He wanted to discuss strategy for their match. He said everyone will be referring to the match as a four corner’s match knowing that the hook is the prospect of Abyss squaring off with the world champion. Magnus said they both know that it is not going to happen. Magnus said they are a team and said he treats Abyss like a star and doesn’t need to remind him of that James Mitchell or Eric Young and how they treated him. Magnus said he has to tell Abyss something that is hard to say. He says he loves Abyss and hugs him then signals for them to leave. Eric Young jumps Abyss through the crowd. Magnus and Abyss double team him. Joe made the save and cleared the ring. Joe and EY got into brief words before EY left.

Madison accepted, mentioning how they are in similar gear and shut the door to talk strategy.

He called Gunner rude for not introducing his dad to him after everything Storm has done for Gunner. He said that Gunner’s grandfather was lucky that he was dead so he didn’t have to see his son and grandson become disappointments. Gunner attacked, but Storm got the upper hand and super kicked him. He handcuffed Gunner to the middle ropes. Storm then grabbed Gunner’s dad and shoved him down. His dad checked on Gunner. Storm then grabbed his beer bottle and nailed Gunner’s dad in the back of the head with it.

    – Mr Anderson came out with a straight jacket in hand. He spoke about Samuel Shaw. Shaw came out and said he is not a creepy bastard. Shaw asks Anderson if he knows how precious these hands are. He says Anderson does nothing with his hands because like these people Anderson is ordinary. Shaw says that Christy Hemme loves him. Anderson attacks and we have a match.

    – In a straight jacket match where the goal was to put your opponent in the jacket, Sam Shaw won.

    – Sanada and Tigre Uno for the X-Division Title was about to start until Kenny King showed up. He said he is not here to rob the spotlight. He is here to lock it down. He says he is the X-Division. He commends the talent in the ring. He says X-Division is not the same without Kenny King. MVP came to the ring. MVP says he is acting crazy interrupting his show. Kenny calls him out for saying it is his show. Kenny says he is the biggest star in the ring right now. MVP tells him to go back to his office and we will talk about it. Kenny says they can talk right now and says he should headline. MVP says it is booked up. Kenny asks him what he is doing tonight. He asks MVP for an exhibition match with MVP. • *Spoilers* TNA Impact Wrestling Tapings Results (Airing 3/27)

Here are spoiler results for the March 27th edition of Impact Wrestling, courtesy of WrestlingNewsWorld.com:

MVP came out for a promo. He said that when he came here he had the intention that every wrestler would rise and fall based solely on their talent and ability. A great man once said “the cream always rises to the top.” He said it was time to make an executive decision and Magnus and Abyss came out. Magnus said before he does anything rash that Abyss has a 100% legitimate service contract to the champion, not TNA or MVP, meaning the only time his authority extends to Abyss is through him. MVP said he had the chance to see how strong Abyss is last week. MVP tells Abyss if he puts a hand on him he will show a side of him he doesn’t want to see and tells him that Magnus is manipulating him. He brings up the idea of a title shot to him. MVP said someone keeps getting shafted and set up next week Abyss will challenge Magnus and the #1 contender Samoa Joe will also challenge Magnus. Joe came out. He said he has only asked MVP for one thing and that is for him to get a fair chance and an uninterrupted opportunity against Magnus.

Joe said now his rematch is a handicap match. Magnus said they have their own problems to deal with and Joe attacks Magnus while MVP attacks Abyss. Eric Young then comes out and attacks Abyss. He and Joe clear the ring while MVP grabs a mic and says enough. Eric Young says he has the solution. He brought the monster out of Abyss and says he has to be the one to stop him. He does Magnus/Joe next week for the title and now he needs to put EY there. EY will take care of Abyss while Joe gets a match the way he wants to be. MVP says he doesn’t think EY has earned it yet. EY says he talks about motivate validate and participate. He says “motivate” MVP has been here 10 minutes while he has been 10 years and runs down everything he has been involved it. “Validate” mentions all the belts he has won. “Participate” he has ran with every ball TNA has given him. He said he is a world class professional wrestler and will fight. Joe says nobody is doubting him but there is a line and he is not at the head of it. Joe still wants his one fair title shot and until he gets what he wants he gets nothing. MVP says he appreciates EY’s passion and everything he said is true and inserts EY into the match. Joe was not happy. He pie faced EY then the two of them got in a brawl. Refs come out and separate them. MVP says we have a match.

Angelina Love came out and called out Velvet asking what her problem was. They spoke about Madison. I assume something backstage happened that was not shown. Angelina Love was not kind to Madison and mentioned it will be her and Madison later while insulting Velvet.

In a match billed as “no DQ, no countout, no rules, and there must be a winner” Gunner defeated James Storm. Match saw Gunner do a spear through the ropes through a table on the floor and a superplex through chairs, Storm hit two superkicks. Storm went for the wee bottle, Gunner had one that Storm previously brought in the ring and hit him with it followed up with the F5 for the win.

The Wolves defeated Magnus and Abyss when Eddie Edwards made Magnus tap out to the single leg crab. Abyss walked away from the ring after the match was done with the TNA title around his shoulder.

*Spoilers* TNA Impact Wrestling Tapings Results (Airing 3/20)

Here are spoiler results for the March 20th edition of Impact Wrestling, courtesy of WrestlingNewsWorld.com:

In a dark segment Bully Ray came out with a mic. He asked the fans who wanted to see him put someone through a table, specifically Bobby Roode. The loudest fans to cheer will be able to help him bring Ray’s tables to the ring.

Angelina Love came out for a promo and talked about it has been a week and called out Velvet Sky, who came to the ring. Velvet talked about she owes a lot to Angelina. She also mentioned the bad times. Angelina really wants them to be friends again and said the fans want it too. They ended up hugging. Angelina says they are missing a third piece and asked Madison Rayne to come out. Angelina tells Madison that she was a part of The Beautiful People and offered her a spot. She says all three of their names but didn’t say Madison’s respectfully. Madison said Angelina always treated her with disrespect. Love said Madison at the time needed to pay her dues. Rayne said that she did all of Love’s dirty work and she likes Velvet but she is not interested and is out.

In a non title triple threat match, Bromans defeated Sanada/Tigre Uno and The Wolves via a pin on Uno following a Hart Attack. Before the match Bromans told Uno and Sanada to lay down for them but they said no. Zema distracted Sanada by taking his X Title at one point.

Bully Ray came out and had tables in the ring. He said he is the one who made sure Dixie is no longer in charge. Crowd chanted “Thank you, Bully.” He spoke about how Dixie came to him and offered money and her “womanly” ways to him and he said no. He said she almost had him with a steak. He told Bobby Roode the last thing they need is another owner like Dixie. He asked how many fans want to see Roode go through some tables. Roode came out. Roode said Ray does not scare him. The guy Ray screwed over does not exist anymore and said he is the guy who was the longest reigning and most dominant champion in TNA history, spat in Dixie’s face before it was cool, and said he was the one who tricked Ray into flying to the corporate office in Nashville last week. He asked the crowd if they know who he was. Ray wanted to fight. Roode said he doesn’t call the shots. Ray said he does and the fans say now. Roode said it isn’t going to happen and leaves. Ray goes after him and puts him on a table at ringside but Roode moves. Ray continues to attack him. They went into the rig and Ray went for a running boot on Roode through a table but missed. Ray then went for a powerbomb through one, Roode evaded, then went for a spear on Roode through another but Roode moved again and Ray put himself through the table.

In a TNA World Heavyweight Title Match, Magnus defeated Samoa Joe. They had Abyss and MVP handcuffed to each other for the match at ringside. Ref got KOed and Abyss and MVP got in a brawl around ringside. Abyss got tacks from under the ring. MVP un handcuffed himself after laying out Abyss and tossed the tacks. Abyss went after MVP and Joe attempted a dive on Abyss but Abyss threw a chair in Joe’s face. Magnus followed up with a top rope elbow drop for the win.

It’s tougher on your body. It’s a tougher schedule. At TV (tapings) you generally tend to have more segments and more responsibilities. And then on top of that there’s that knowledge of knowing everybody’s after your spot. I didn’t ask for it. I didn’t politic for it. I was put in that position because somebody at some point felt that I was the right guy and that’s a good thing. All I’m doing is trying to work hard and make that mean something.”

On being a heel overseas in the UK and the reaction he got at the recent Glasgow show: “Well, it was satisfying because that was what I was going for. You know, it’s amazing to me how many people ask me about that because it seems like in the wrestling business these days a lot of talent seems to forget what their job is. A lot of people seem to want to be a heel but then they also want to get cheered by people and that, to me, is the dumbest situation you can be in. Everyone else seemed to be more concerned about this than I was. I said look, these fans are wrestling fans. They’re not just a bunch of British people who filled up an arena. And as far as you’re representing Glasgow, Glasgow and England have always had a huge … The last time I was in Glasgow I had a ton of heat anyway. It was a house show so no one saw that but I did because there’s a huge rivalry between Scotland and England and I always play off of that. So, yeah, sure, I think I just proved by the fact that in 2013 I walked out in Manchester and London as a babyface and got the biggest pop of the night and one year later came out as a heel and got the loudest boo of the night. I think that, if anything, I can do both.”

On the company returning to Orlando for Impact on Thursday and television tapings on Friday and Saturday: “I’ve always had an affection for Orlando. When I first started with the company, it was very much our base because I was still in England at the time. I would come over for long periods of time and so I would spend quite a lot of time in Orlando. I have a genuine affection for it. It’s a fun place. Sometimes we get bogged down in all the other kind of B.S. of wrestling, the politics and the rumors and what’s going on and all that kind of stuff. You have to it you want to take it seriously but sometimes you have to talk about it. Right now, I’m traveling with Robbie E and EC3 (Ethan Carter) and guys like us, we’re all young guys and we’re enjoying our lives and our careers. Sometimes we just have to sit back and go we get to go to Universal Studios in Orlando and we get paid to go and be wrestlers and hang out in one of the most popular vacation spots in the world. That’s great.”
