Hulk Hogan Q&A: Chances Of Wrestling Again, Movie On His Life, Issues With Bret Hart

TNA Impact Wrestling star Hulk Hogan recently sat down for a Q&A with the Cape Breton Post, to discuss a number of topics, including the rumored movie on his life and his thoughts on a possible return to the ring. Below are highlights from the discussion:

CP: The big headline lately is that you’re developing a movie about your life — is this true?

HH: It’s not really true. It’s a TMZ headline…. What happened was, I was going through LaGuardia Airport … this guy asked me a bunch of dumb questions for TMZ and he goes, ’Eh, when are they going to do a bio about your life?’ And I said, ’It’s already in development.’ So now everybody’s rambling like it’s a feature film already. But the truth is … two kids that are writers in L.A., hot young writers, they did a four-page treatment and I’m telling you they nailed it — they nailed it like they were living in my shoes — and I gave them the green light to go ahead and write the first pass. But that’s all it is.

CP: When you say they nailed it, what did they capture?

HH: First off, they’ve got wrestling in their blood, they were huge Hulk Hogan fans, so they followed not only the smoke and mirrors that you see on TV, but they followed personally what I was going through: the divorce, the car accident, all the drama, the eight back surgeries, the hip replacements, the knee replacements.

CP: TMZ had asked you if your son would play you onscreen and you said that sounds like a good idea.

HH: I said he’d be perfect for it but I think we need a serious, serious actor that knows what he’s doing. You know who I thought would be good? That guy that did that action movie, ’Thor’ (Chris Hemsworth).

CP: How do you feel about your milestone 60th birthday (which was this past weekend)?

HH: Pretty good, because I’m eternally youthful and I’m 60 years young. I’ll take my shirt off in front of any 25 year old and I guarantee I’m built better than they are.

CP: Where are you at in terms of your relationship with the ring? Are you content to be outside of it, behind the mike and doing other things, or do you want to get back inside?

HH: I would love to be in the main event and running around the ring going crazy, but the truth is, I don’t want to break anything else. And I had my day, I had my time, I made a pretty good statement, and I think that just being able to be around it — working with Impact Wrestling, I’m still on TV every Thursday night, from 9 to 11 on Spike TV — I just get to live vicariously through the young guys.

CP: You’ve had some feuds with other wrestlers over the years — do some of them still stand or do you get over them? Like with Bret Hart, for instance. I’m asking because he’s Canadian.

HH: No, that’s all on his end. I love Bret. Whatever he did, I forgive him, whatever I did, I forgive myself. I just can’t keep that negative stuff in my spiritual structure. I’ve just basically got nothing but love for Bret Hart. He’s a great guy.

Sam Shaw Talks About His Current TNA Status, Gut Check, OVW Cuts

TNA and OVW star Sam Shaw recently spoke to Robert “The Krupy” Krupar from Art Of Wrestling about a number of topics. Below are highlights from the discussion:

The Krupy: Recently, a lot of conflicting reports concerning your OVW/TNA status have surfaced online. So, my question is: are you still employed by TNA or not?

Sam Shaw: Yes, still an independent contracted talent with TNA.

The Krupy: Most wrestlers say their character is them with the volume turned up high. How much of you is in Sam Saw – the wrestler?

Sam Shaw: It’s really me. Absolutely me. No one said “ hey try this gimmick…wear boardshorts and skater shoes and be this X-games type-guy.“ That whole concept was me being me. I’m sure there were fans that looked at me and said „look at this guy…no wrestling gear, stupid tattoos and spiky hair? He’s gonna suck!“ My whole thing is this: why be like everyone else? You’re always going to be compared to other wrestlers but I wanted to be my own person/character. Hillbilly Jim was a redneck farmer guy, so you knew it right away when he walked down the aisle with the whole presentation. No one asks why Bully Ray doesn’t wear spandex. Aces & Eights are bikers…none of them should wear trunks and wrestling boots. I wear boardshorts and skater shoes everyday. That’s the way I grew up, skating, surfing and wearing those types of clothes so it feels natural for me to wear that in the ring. Am I opposed to wearing the traditional gear? No. I have before.

The Krupy: Can you tell us something more about the recent releases in OVW? A lot of young and talented wrestlers left.

Sam Shaw: It’s always sad to hear that guys/girls get released, especially if you are really close with them. I was close with a few of them, but I know that they love this line of work so much that they will bounce back and seize other opportunities.

The Krupy: What´s your opinion on the entire Gutcheck concept as a Gutcheck winner?

Sam Shaw: For me personally, it was a great way to introduce me to a much wider audience . Instead of just debuting me they used the GutCheck concept to introduce me and in a lot of ways. I’m not sure if certain people within the company knew if I would sink or swim when the bright lights and TV cameras were focused on me. My goal was to make the most of the opportunity and show that I belong and I could do some cool things when all the attention and pressure is layed on me. It’s hard to throw a guy out there if he isn’t particularly known, even on the Indy scene where there are so many talented guys that are looking for the same opportunity that I got. I’ve been doing things with TNA since 2009, as I was training under Bully Ray and Devon at Team 3D Academy (and busting my ass) which afforded me opportunities over the years that others might not ever get. Bully always told me „it’s right place, right time“ and „maximize your opportunities“ and he was totally right!

Dixie Carter Q&A: Great Muta, Monty Brown, UK PPV & More

TNA President Dixie Carter has posted her second batch of Q&A’s from the #AskDixie Twitter campaign, which you can read at ImpactWrestling.com. Here are some highlights of what she said about:

Fans On The West Coast Having To Watch TNA On 3 Hour Delay: Most TV networks run a “West Coast Feed” to compensate for the time zone changes with their prime time programming. Although there is no way to change that, we watch the #IMPACTLive twitter responses from both feeds.

A UK PPV: “Would love this, but I always say I want more people to be able to see the great UK audiences worldwide on Impact vs how many would see it on a PPV platform. But we will definitely have a PPV there one day.”

Monty Brown Returning To TNA: “Monty Brown is still one of my favorite TNA stars from our early days. He was able to transition from the NFL to the ring and showed good charisma. Monty is now retired and currently lives in Michigan.”

Great Muta In TNA: “It was wonderful to have Muta visit last week at our TNA offices in Nashville. There are a lot of exciting business opportunities in Japan, and some incredible talent as well that I’d love to showcase on Impact. We have a great home on Nippon Television G+ Sports every Saturday night and hope to bring IMPACT to Japan in the future.”

Backstage News On Creative Direction Of TNA, Terrell Update, Live Attendance

-The general consensus within TNA right now is that the creative direction of the company will not change much following the recent departure of Bruce Prichard. Eric Bischoff is currently in charge of the creative direction of the company, while David Lagana and Matt Conway handle the majority of the actual writing.

-As previously noted, TNA Knockout Taryn Terrell has not been released from the company, she is merely dealing with personal issues which has kept her off of television. Apparently, Terrell is not expected to return anytime in the immediate future. At one point, prior to Terrell taking time off, she was scheduled to defeat Mickie James at Bound For Glory for the TNA Knockouts Championship. Obviously with Terrell temporarily sidelined, those plans have been scrapped.

-The TNA Impact Wrestling live event in Tyler, Texas on August 2nd drew a reported 400 fans. The TNA live event the next night, August 3rd, in Thibodaux, Louisiana, drew a reported 1,200 fans.
