Adam Pearce On Exploiting #August1Warning Videos, TNA Gut Check, Colt Cabana

The following are highlights from a recent interview with Adam Pearce:

On rumors he was behind the #August1Warning videos: “I wasn’t surprised that a few people picked up on it. I was then crazily surprised that it seems like everybody assumed that I was going to behind those wonderful videos. … Within hours, I was obviously the guy!”

On his decision to exploit the attention received by the #August1Warning videos: “Within the first twelve hours. It was to the point where it wasn’t just fans and it wasn’t just online. I was getting texts from people who know me, and people who should know better. … If half the boys are thinking this, then why wouldn’t I use it?”

On what he expected from TNA Gut Check: “Reality television is scripted television. Pro Wrestling is scripted television. So why would ‘Reality Television within Pro Wrestling Television’ be anything other than scripted television.”

On his 7 Levels Of Hate series with Colt Cabana: “It’s a wrestling story from soup to nuts, except for all of the drama that happened 75% of the way throughout the series. I think people are going to be both surprised and really interested to see how things effected real life for guys like me and guys like Colt Cabana.”

TNA House Show Results (8/3): Thibodaux, Louisiana

The following are results from the TNA Impact Wrestling live event from Thibodaux, Louisiana. The event was held on Saturday, August 3, 2013.

-Before the show officially began in the ring, Mr. Anderson came out through the crowd and claimed no one was going to receive backstage passes at this show. This led to Jeff Hardy coming out and challenging Anderson to a match. If Hardy wins, fans do get to go backstage. If he doesn’t, they don’t.

-Jeff Hardy defeated Mr. Anderson via pinfall. Hardy picked up the victory after he hit Anderson with his Twist Of Fate finisher for the clean pin. Because of the victory, fans get to go backstage.

-Gail Kim defeated ODB va pinfall. The finish came when Kim rolled up ODB for a pin, and used her feet on the ropes for added leverage. Earl Hebner was the referee for this match, and before it began the crowd got on his case with the “You Screwed Bret” chants. Hebner played it up by putting on a pair of sunglasses and mocking Hart’s gesture where he holds his hands out.

-James Storm defeated Kazarian via Disqualification. As soon as Storm was about to finish things off with the Last Call Superkick, Daniels made a run-in and cost Kazarian the match. This led to Gunner coming out to make the save. The fans chanted for a tag-team match, so the babyfaces obliged by accepting and making the match for the TNA World Tag-Team Championships. Daniels tried refusing, but when he was warned that he would be fined and suspended if he didn’t wrestle the match, he gave in.

-James Storm & Gunner defeated Daniels & Kazarian via pinfall to retain the TNA World Tag-Team Championships. Lots of action in this one, with the finish coming when Storm and Gunner each hit their finishers to pick up the pinfall victory.

-During intermission, it was once again announced that Earl Hebner had reached the milestone of serving as a referee for 100,000 matches. If fans bought his t-shirt, he and his son Brian Hebner would autograph it.

-AJ Styles defeated Devon via Submission. Styles picked up the victory and after the match, fans got on Devon’s case with a loud “You Tapped Out” chant.

-Chris Sabin defeated Bobby Roode via pinfall to retain the TNA World Heavyweight Championship. The finish came when Sabin hit his finishing move on Roode to pick up the clean pin. After the match, the Aces & 8’s came out and attacked Sabin. This led to Jeff Hardy coming out to make the save.

TNA Impact Wrestling House Show Results (8/2): Tyler, Texas

The following are results from the TNA Impact Wrestling live event in Tyler, Texas. The event was held on Friday, August 2, 2013.

-Jeff Hardy defeated Mr. Anderson via pinfall. Hardy picked up the victory after he hit Anderson with his Twist Of Fate finisher for the pin. It’s interesting to note, Hardy never once performed a move off the top-rope in this match.

-Gail Kim defeated ODB in a Knockouts Match via pinfall. The referee for this match was Earl Hebner, so he did his “I Screwed Bret” routine, complete with the “Damn Right I Did” t-shirt and sunglasses. The Kim-ODB match was what you’d expect from these two, similar to their match on Impact Wrestling on Spike TV the night before. The finish came when Kim rolled up ODB and held the tights to secure the 1-2-3.

-Gunner defeated Christopher Daniels via Disqualification. Was said to be a good match. The finish came when Kazarian dd a run-in, costing Daniels the match and giving Gunner the victory via DQ. After the Kazarian run-in, James Storm came out to make the save. This led to an immediate TNA World Tag-Team Championship match.

-James Storm and Gunner defeated Christopher Daniels & Frankie Kazarian via pinfall to retain the TNA World Tag-Team Championships. All four guys worked really hard in this match, and it showed, as this was definitely the best match on the card.

-AJ Styles defeated Devon (with Mike Knox) via Submission. According to live reports, these two did not mesh well as there was a clash of styles (no pun intended) with their in-ring work. Regardless, the match wasn’t that bad.

-Chris Sabin defeated Bobby Roode to retain the TNA World Heavyweight Championship in the Main Event of the evening. This match wasn’t as long as you would think, considering it was the main event of the show and it was for the TNA World Heavyweight Championship. Regardless, this was an excellent match that the crowd thoroughly enjoyed. In the end, Sabin picked up the victory with his finisher to retain the title.

NOTES:

-According to live reports, there were approximately 300-500 people in a building that can fit nearly 8,000 people.

-TNA never changed the advertising, so anyone who doesn’t read the internet was expecting Kurt Angle at the show. As a result of his not being there, nearly every match on the card had to be altered in some form or fashion.

UPDATE: Kurt Angle To Serve Jail Time Due To Latest DWI Arrest?

Manik Speaks On X-Division Format Change, Current State Of TNA, Hulk Hogan

Current TNA X-Division Champion Manik recently spoke to The Shining Wizards about a number of TNA-related topics. Below are highlights from the interview:

On the of the X-Division to a Triple-Threat format: “The only thing that bothers me sometimes, every single time you have a match like that, one guy is going to be painted as the dark horse, when in actuality they’re as much a number one contender as any other person in the match. It’s kind of a double-edged sword, because guys are fighting for their individuality which provides for them to put out better performances, but it can complicate it because I think guys feel like they need to compensate more in order to stay relevant. It’s a constructive format in the sense of creating more competition, in every sense, I mean, mentally, professionally, everything, it makes you feel a lot more competitive when you know you have to share the spotlight like that. I mean, in relation to the way that the division has always been, it’s not all that different altogether from any other time in history. Just now, there’s an actual rulebook that says it’s official. We’ve been seeing it for years, it was just never written on a piece of paper.”

On whether or not the Triple-Threat format has the same feel as singles competition: “I kinda feel that it’s not on the shoulders of the format as much as on the shoulders of the individuals competing. There are personal things people are drawn into, they’re there, but if you are not staying relevant as an individual, then people are going to refuse to see it. Recent history is a good example. Myself, Kenny King, and Chris Sabin shared a spotlight for several weeks. Initially, Sabin was on a tear, so a lot of people were drawn to him. So it was my job to make sure that I’m making a statement, vying for the same exact spot he is. And it ended up being a pretty equal share as far as… we all have individual stories, but people were drawn into each direction. There were a lot a people that look to Kenny as a guy that they’re hoping to hang onto his spot, and they can relate to that. There are a lot of guys… obviously the entire world can relate to Chris Sabin and him having such a comeback story. And me, having made a splash out of nowhere, I had to fight to stay relevant. In other cases you don’t see guys holding on to their… they don’t handle themselves well enough to keep that up. It goes back to the competitive nature of it. Although I do think that they are probably going to keep an open book as to how the format will continue. If we are to see headline-style matches… I mean I’m gonna wrestle the World champ in a singles match. If they can see the draw and interest in special occasions, I think the format isn’t exactly set in stone.”

On working with the legendary Hulk Hogan: “I could’ve done without having appeared after beaten within an inch of my life. But outside of limping across the stage, it’s a pretty big moment, and it’s one of those things that you have to take a double-take to appreciate it. This is a guy that my mom had him sign one of my head-shots when I was a kid, and I had his autograph on my wall since before I became a wrestler. Who doesn’t know Hulk Hogan? Ten years from now a new wrestling fan will be created that maybe isn’t even born yet, and they will know who Hulk Hogan is. It’s insane to think know much impact he’s had on the world, that’s how far he reaches. Being able to stand shoulder to shoulder with the guy is a pretty powerful thing.”

On smaller guys getting a chance in the main event spot: “Personally, it’s a case of… look at another company, like WWE, and there’s guys like CM Punk and Daniel Bryan, and people firmly believe that they’re doing such revolutionary things. But if you look back through history, there’s been somebody doing that every few years. We’re talking Guerrero and Jericho, Michaels and Hart, we go back as far as the days of Sammartino, and some of those heavyweight main eventers are like 5’10”, 5’11”, and they might be heavier guys but they don’t fit the mold… I think people assume they have a roster of seventy people that look like Batista, and that’s never been the case. But in this case I really feel like the people you mentioned, with myself, and Chris Sabin and Austin Aries, I think that it’s a situation opposite of that where the world is kind of seeing us carry the ball better than previous people who are the exact opposite mold of us within TNA. I think the fact that we’re able to build more momentum and do more with less; I think that’s where you see the transition, as opposed to older stars coming in and being handed the same ball that they’ve had previously, and maybe they can’t carry it the same way, but there was always faith in them. I think now we’re showing there can be faith given across the board because there’s a lot of people that can do just as well.”

On the current state of TNA: “I think things are great. People say this, and it’s not even about wrestling but just about a lot of things, when you’re on the inside or on the outside of things looking in, and how different it can be when you’re not present for everything, and this really fits one of those cases. As far as I can see, everything is about as positive as it can be. When I was like 18 years old, I first came into TNA in 2004, and from then until now, I’ve been back intermittently, and I feel like the changes have been progressively good; I’ve never seen them take a step back, and I think the professional changes that have gone on in formats and, you know, taking the show on the road, and the touring schedule, stuff like that, everything has been a positive transition. And I think they’ve handled it really well. As far as cuts and things like that, I think that a lot of people make a big deal out of making something out of nothing. It sucks when difficult decisions have to be made, but this really isn’t anything new and not anything that you don’t see anywhere else. WWE cuts like fifty people like clockwork the same time every year. It’s just part of being… it’s with anything. If you run a professional sports team, sometimes half the roster is gone at the end of the season, that’s just the way it is. You’d like to see some guys stay. You understand when some guys go. It’s a tough situation, but I think if you look at it in a different way, professional wrestling… you could be a CEO or an executive somewhere, and if you lose your job there there’s no public announcement to the world “hey, we wish the best of luck to this guy, he’s available now,” there’s no validation, so to speak. If you work some other job, it’s more cutthroat. If you’re an executive somewhere and your contract is up or you get fired, you’re done. They don’t put it out in public that you’ve been a great employee, good luck to this guy or anything like that, you’re just out. I don’t see why people think it’s so harsh in wrestling when I feel like we do a lot for each other when ties are cut to maintain careers and such… [Emotion as a fan], something like that will never change, as with anything. You hate to see something you’ve become so attached to go… I didn’t want to see Metta World Peace get amnesty. Sometimes I hate him and want him to go to the bench, but at the same time he gets cut, you’re like, that sucks, but… Any organization, especially in entertainment, they have to make these exact same changes routinely. I think it’s not anything out of the ordinary. I think if anybody sees it that way, I think it’s a case of them trying to see it in a negative way. Then sometimes there’s tough cuts with people, where you feel like they should’ve been given a bigger chance or something like that. Maybe because of the course their career has taken, something like that, or something that’s happened to them within their personal life, or whatever their story is. But at the end of the day we all signed up for this knowing all the negatives, so I don’t see why it should be such a surprise if the ball doesn’t always bounce exactly the way we think. I mean, I’ve been homeless, I’ve been bankrupt, I’ve been cut a million times from a million places, and I’ve had opportunities taken from me that were completely beyond my control, never once did I say “man, I hate this place,” wherever I was. I signed up for this. When I was thirteen years old, I knew what I was getting into. We all do. It’s hard for the fans to understand that, but at the same time, I think if you do see the bigger picture, you would see that it’s just a tough part of any job in the world. As far as morale, not everybody has the luxury of being able to walk the halls of the locker room, but I think morale, to me, especially because I know so many people that I work with, it’s as high as it’s ever been. I think people, whether it’s WWE or here, or a Japanese company, or CMLL, sometimes negative people want… they’ll only want to see a certain reality in their head, like people walking around with their heads down, and that’s never been the case. In fact, I’ve never, ever once seen that be the case from 2004 until now.”

Major TNA Cuts Expected To Afford Tito Ortiz/Rampage Contracts?

*Spoilers* Impact Wrestling Results From For Next Week (8/8)

Bully Ray promo with Chris Sabin about the cage match at Hardcore Justice. Brooke Hogan came out with the contract and said if Bully lost he’ll never get another title match. Just like Sting a couple months ago. Ugh.

Jeff Hardy defeated Samoa Joe in a very good BFG match. I believe Mr. Anderson distracted Joe from the announce table but I’m not sure.

Mr. Anderson defeated Magnus in a BFG match after Bobby Roode came out & hit Anderson with a chair. That disqualified Magnus.

Tito Ortiz came out for a promo. Angle interrupted him to tell him he respected him. Bully Ray then came out & said he didn’t respect either of them. Dumb segment.

James Storm, Gunner, & ODB beat Bromance and Mickie James. Gail Kim attacked ODB afterwards and then Mickie got a cheap shot jn after.

Kaz and Daniels went to a double count out on purpose. Such a dumb finish. Then Roode came back out & announced a new faction with them 3. Cause that’s what TNA needs.

Chris Sabin and Kurt Angle defeated Team 3D. In a typical TNA move, Sting came out with Sabin and got by far the best pop of the night. But of course it was just a swerve for Angle to come from behind. Half the crowd left because of this.

Adam Pearce Posts Parody #August1Warning Video & Says “Sorry To Disappoint”

Adam Pearce posted a parody #August1Warning video today, playing off the rumors that he’s the mystery man who will debut on tonight’s live episode of TNA Impact Wrestling.

Using footage found in TNA’s #August1Warning videos, the camera pans to Pearce sitting on the toilet and then to an attractive woman laying on a bed. Pearce then looks into the camera and says:

“Sorry to disappoint, guys. I know it’s August 1st, but as you can see, I’ve got far more important things to handle.”

A minor warning – the video contains sexually suggestive material and some profanity on Pearce’s t-shirt:

Sting Talks About Using Steroids, When He’ll Retire & Religion

TNA Hall of Famer Sting recently spoke to MuscleandFitness about new DVD with Brian Bosworth, “Revelation Road.” Here are some highlights of what he said about:

Becoming “Born Again” In 1998: “In August of 1998 my life was turned upside down. I gave my life to Jesus Christ who became my Lord and Savior, right at the peak of my career where I had all the money and power and fame you could ever want. It’s just like in this movie. God kept trying to reach me, to open my eyes. And I was like, “Don’t talk to me about Jesus. My life is fine.” But in August of 1998, I had a moment of truth with a confession I made to my wife. There was drugs, alcohol, adultery, the whole package, and I wound up coming clean and confessing it all.”

His Past Use of Steroids: “Thankfully, I got smart somehow or another in 1990 and stopped taking steroids – totally stopped. A lot of the guys I ran with all those years continued to take steroids year after year – those guys are having their knees and their hips replaced. I’m not saying everybody who gets their knees and their hips replaced took steroids. I just noticed that the guys who did that were too big, too bulky, too heavy, and the body couldn’t handle it and it took its toll. So that was my one saving grace, but I would train differently now. I’m actually doing pretty good for a guy my age – I just turned 54 – and I’m still hanging in there. I can move a little bit in the ring. I can’t do half of what I used to be able to do, but I get around.”

At 54, How Long He Continues To Wrestle: “I’ve learned not to give a time. I can’t go on wrestling much longer. I’m taking it, literally, one month at a time. I’m under contract until January of next year, so we’ll see what’s happening. I do want to do more movies. I’m looking at a few different things, reality shows being one of them. I’m just trying to move onto the next season of my life. As far as wrestling goes, I’ve stayed away from the creative part of it all these years, I just don’t want to sit in on the meetings and babysit wrestlers and personalities and all that. But, there are things I’d like to see happen in pro wrestling and I may try to make it materialize. I don’t know.”

* The Man Behind #August1Warning REVEALED – Find Out Who Is Debuting TONIGHT

TNA Misses #August1Warning/YouTube Goal, Scary New Jack Incident, Benoit Film

-TNA Impact Wrestling recently promised to reveal a “clue” as to who the “#August1Warning” mystery-man was upon reaching 250,000 views on the initial video released on their official YouTube channel. As of 12:00pm E.T. on Thursday, the first “#August1Warning” video on TNA’s YouTube channel has reached 219,083 views. Whether or not TNA planned on releasing a new video everyday leading up to Impact Wrestling tonight on Spike TV when they first launched the online angle is unknown. One would assume the company changed plans as the online angle picked up momentum, as it would be unrealistic to expect to reach 250,000 views on a video with three additional follow-up videos being released, devaluing the significance of the original.

-ECW original New Jack had a scare when he passed out at a club recently in Atlantic City while drinking alcohol. His blood pressure was said to be alarmingly high. As a result, New Jack ended up in a local emergency room. New Jack claimed he had stopped taking his required medication, which is a bad idea he claims he won’t be repeating.

-According to the latest reports, the Chris Benoit “Crossface” biopic is expected to begin filming in 2014. Producers of the movie are currently speaking with actors regarding specific roles, however official casting won’t be in the serious stages for another couple of months.
