TNA Press Release For Tonight’s “Joker’s Wild One Night Only” PPV

TNA sent out the following press release for tonight’s “One Night Only” Joker’s Wild pay-per-view:

24 OF THE BRIGHTEST NAMES IN WRESTLING COMPETE FOR $100,000 IN ‘ONE NIGHT ONLY: JOKER’S WILD’ PAY-PER-VIEW EVENT PREMIERING MAY 3

LUCK OF THE DRAW REIGNS SUPREME IN TNA’s MOST UNIQUE PAY-PER-VIEW EVENT EVER, FEATURING RANDOM TAG TEAMS AND 12-MAN GAUNTLET MATCH

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (May 2, 2013) – Two dozen of the brightest names in wrestling count on a whole lot of fight and a little bit of luck as they compete for a $100,000 grand prize in “TNA Wrestling Presents ONE NIGHT ONLY: JOKER’S WILD,” a Pay-Per-View event hosted by Jeremy Borash and Christy Hemme that premieres Friday, May 3 at 8 p.m. ET/5 p.m. PT on cable and satellite television systems across the country.

The “Joker’s Wild” lineup features a who’s who of TNA Wrestling’s past, present and future. Former TNA World Heavyweight Champions such as “The Cowboy” JAMES STORM, “The IT Factor” BOBBY ROODE, “The Samoan Submission Machine” SAMOA JOE, MR. ANDERSON and ROB VAN DAM jump into the fray alongside ring veterans CHRISTOPHER DANIELS, CHAVO GUERRERO, JR., DEVON, AL SNOW and DOUG WILLIAMS, as well as talented newcomers like GUNNER, CRIMSON, JOEY RYAN and many more.

The “Joker’s Wild” format pairs TNA Superstars in randomly drawn tag teams, facing off with another team in a series of six matches. The winning teams from those six matches will then be entered in a 12-man Gauntlet Match, with the last man standing taking home $100,000!

What will the luck of the draw reveal as the impromptu tag teams are announced? Will former rivals be forced to co-exist in pursuit of the night’s final goal? Will superstars with dramatically different ring styles have to find a way to advance? And, will long-held allegiances be completely forgotten in the frenzy of the Gauntlet Match to capture the $100,000 grand prize?

All of these questions and more will be answered at “TNA Wrestling Presents ONE NIGHT ONLY: JOKER’S WILD.” This Pay-Per-View event is available for purchase throughout the month of May for $14.95. Contact your cable or satellite television provider for complete details.

Hulk Hogan Sex Tape Update: Emergency Hearing Held Today

The ongoing saga of the Hulk Hogan sex tape took another turn on Monday, as the Gawker digital publishing company appeal the temporary injunction Hulk Hogan received ordering all video clips and written descriptions of the Hulk Hogan-Heather Clem sex tape to be taken offline.

Gawker argued that the description of the video clip could not be pulled due to freedom of speech and a judge sided with them over Hogan.

Hogan also filed a motion with the court, requesting that Gawker be be held in contempt for refusing the adhere to the court order and placing the footage on another website and linking to it at the same time it was removed from their own site. Hogan is arguing that linking to the footage falls under the behavior that Gawker was prohibited from doing.

Hulk Hogan Scores Legal Victory In Gawker Sex Tape Case

TNA star Hulk Hogan finally scored a legal victory against Gawker.com this week, with a judge granting a temporary restraining order related to footage of his infamous sex tape.

Gawker.com will be forced to remove their excerpt of the sex tape that was released last year featuring Hogan and former friend Bubba The Love Sponge’s ex-wife, Heather Clem.

Hogan will now continue with his claim that Gawker violated his rights by posting the tape.

The judge ordered that the footage be pulled from all of the website’s affiliates and all copies of the video are to be turned over to Hogan.

The case was moved from Federal Court, where Hogan was not very successful, to State Court.

*Spoilers* TNA Impact Wrestling Tapings Results For Next Week

Credit: D.J. & Prowrestling.net

TNA Xplosion Tapings:

Magnus beat Robbie E. This match was taped before the live Impact show.

“Cowboy” James Storm beat Joey Ryan. This match was taped in between the first and second Impact.

May 2 TNA Impact Wrestling TV Taping (Airing Thursday):

Chris Sabin defeated Zema Ion and Sonjay Dutt in an X-Division three-way match. Sabin got a lot of offense in and looked very sharp in his return match. He hasn’t missed a beat. The referee for this match was wearing the X-Division Ref Camera.

Rob Terry beat Robbie E, “Mr. Pectacular” Jessie Godderz and Joey Ryan in a handicap match. Terry pinned Joey Ryan. In a comical spot prior to the match, while the heel trio was deciding via “rock/paper/scissors” who would start in the ring with Terry, Robbie E and Jessie quickly stepped out of the ring – leaving Joey Ryan to start the match.

-Hulk Hogan came out for an in-ring promo. He said there was still a divide between he & Sting. Hogan immediately called Sting out to the ring, and Sting obliged. Hogan said he knew when he was right and when he was wrong. “I was wrong.” He said that rather than pushing his friends away, he should have been pulling them towards him. He apologized to Sting, who in turn accepted his apology by shaking Hogan’s hand. Sting told the crowd they’re both together now. He asked for Hulk’s blessing to take on the Aces & Eights in a 6-man tag-match.

Hogan said he gave Sting full authority to find his 2 partners for the match next week, because he was busy trying to find an opponent for Bully Ray at Slammiversary. Matt Morgan’s music interrupted. He sarcastically asked if this was the part where Hogan gives Sting another title match. Hogan replied that Morgan’s biggest problem is that he always picked the wrong time to run his mouth. He said that before Morgan interrupted him, he was just getting ready to announce that Bully Ray would defend the TNA Title at Slammiversary against the winner of tonight’s main event: Matt Morgan vs. Sting

Kurt Angle defeated D-Lo Brown in an “I Quit” match via ankle lock submission. Angle came out to a HUGE hometown pop. Pre-match, D-Lo said it wouldn’t be enough to beat Angle, he wanted to humiliate him. He said he would do something nobody had ever done before: beat Kurt Angle in an “I Quit” match. Aces & Eights had appeared briefly in the crowd to distract Angle, allowing D-Lo to get the upper hand before Angle came back to pick up the victory..

-After the match, Christy Hemne interviewed Angle, who made it clear he wanted to do one thing and that was to call out A.J. Styles. He said he knew A.J. was in the building. A.J.’s music hit and he entered the ring from the stage rather than the crowd. Angle referenced his home area of Western PA for a (loud) “cheap pop.” Angle told Styles that by joining Aces & 8?s that Styles would be taking the easy way out. Angle remarked that he had taken the easy way out plenty of times in the past and that he was very successful because of it. “But that’s not your style, A.J.” Angle said that he knew Styles had his problems he was going through, but he and Sting needed a partner to take on Aces & Eights. He said if he was with them (meaning Sting & Angle), it was cool; but if he was against them, then they had a problem. “Next week, the choice is yours.”

Taryn Terrell and Mickie James defeated Gail Kim and Tara. Taryn pinned Tara. ODB was the referee. Following the match, Gail and Tara attacked Taryn and Mickie. Tara and Mickie fought to the back. Gail hit Taryn with “eat defeat” and then put her in a figure-four around the ring post until ODB came back to ringside and pulled her off.

-Bobby Roode and Austin Aries were out next for an in-ring promo. Roode said that last week Bad Influence was trying to get in his head. He said it wasn’t about reforming Fourtune, but it was about the tag team championship. Aries said they weren’t anything like Bad Influence. “In fact, we don’t even like each other.” Aries said they didn’t ride together or laugh at each other’s own jokes like Bad Influence. Daniels and Kazarian were out to interrupt. Funny enough, while the Bad Influence music played, Chavo’s TNA tron video was shown.

Kazarian said Roode and Aries were nothing more than a cheap imitation of Bad Influence and that they would find that out in their match next week. Chavo Guerrero and Hernandez were out next. Chavo announced that Hulk Hogan had named a special guest referee for next week’s tag match and that it wasn’t either one of Chavo or Hernandez. It was James Storm. Storm walked out on the stage to stare down Roode/Aries and Bad Influence.

Sting defeated Matt Morgan to earn the right to challenge for the TNA Title at Slammiversary. Morgan passed out in the Scorpion Death Lock. Post-match, Bully Ray, Devon and Ken Anderson of Aces & 8?s hit the ring from through the crowd and stared down Sting from the ring apron to close the show.

Notes: I managed to see Kurt Angle’s wife Giovanna in the crowd before the show. An entire five sections near the “hard-cam” were completely empty. The rest of the building was basically full. The Kovalchick Complex is a really nice venue and has to be fairly new from what I could observe. It was a perfect size for TNA on its initial run of “live” TV shows outside of the Impact Zone. TNA did a great job of keeping the crowd hot throughout the night, saving hometown guy Kurt Angle for the second show and having Sting appear twice on the second show after his brief appearance during the 1st show.

It was a real treat to see Sting again in-person, since WCW went out of business over 12 years ago and Sting very rarely does TNA house shows; it’s the first time I’ve seen him wrestle live and in-person in at least 15 years. Sting shook hands with fans around the ringside area after his match, and TNA played “Happy Trails” over the sound system to send the fans home. Sal Rinauro of FIP/ROH/Wrestling Road Diaries fame worked the merch stand along with Extreme Rising’s “Facade” and IWC referee Troy Davis. After the show, an incognito Joey Ryan took pictures with a few fans next to the merch table who recognized him.

Kurt Angle Talks About Retiring In WWE, Hogan Being Featured Over Him In TNA

TNA star Kurt Angle appeared on Mark Madden’s Pittsburgh radio show this week to promote tonight’s live episode of Impact Wrestling. Here are some highlights of what Angle said about:

Why Hogan Is Battling Aces & Eights, Not Him:

“You know what, I’ve had talks with Creative and, yeah, we’ve been going back and forth. I’ve been the staple of the company the last five years until, I would say, the last year. I believe they’ve been trying to use the younger talent.”

“[It’s] a touchy subject. I love Terry, but you’re right, it is about bringing up the younger talent. And the way to do it is having them wrestle veterans like me in the main events. Hopefully in the future they’ll start doing that more often.”

Focusing Back On TNA After Considering Another Olympic Run:

“I believe that was probably the beginning of my demise in TNA as far as where they wanted me,” Angle said. “They were expecting me to try out for the Olympics and go to the Olympics, so they kind of wrote me off. Then, they didn’t have a lot for me. But, I said, ‘Hey, it’s over. What are we going to do now?’ And they said, ‘We’re going to have plans for you and start writing you back in.’ So, we’ll see here in the future.”

Loving TNA But Possibly Ending His Career In WWE:

“I love it in TNA. I’ve been very, very happy here. They treat me very well. You just never know,” Angle said. “The way I want to retire, I want to go out with a bang. I’m hoping to God that within the next three years, we can have somewhat of a PPV that is minutely close to WrestleMania. But, we don’t. Not yet. But, you know, everyone always wants to retire at WrestleMania.”

“It’s a hard thing because I want to stay in TNA – I love it there – but when you have the opportunity to go back and perform in front of millions of people on PPV and 100,000 fans in the stadium, it’s kind of hard not to. But, like I said, I am happy in TNA and this is where I want to stay.”

Impact Wrestling Preview: Hulk Hogan & Bully Ray Face-To-Face

Here’s TNA’s official preview for tonight’s live episode of Impact Wrestling from the Kovalchick Convention and Athletic Complex in Indiana, Pennsylvania:

– Will Hulk Hogan go face-to-face with World Heavyweight Champion Bully Ray on Thursday’s IMPACT? As IMPACT ended this past week, Bully Ray called out Hogan – claiming there are no more heroes left to defend TNA after the Aces injured Jeff Hardy, Kurt Angle, Samoa Joe and Magnus! Will Hulk Hogan answer the challenge LIVE on IMPACT on Thursday? Will he bring backup? Can Hogan find a way to stop the Aces, or will he also fall victim to the gang?

– Tonight on Impact Wrestling on Spike TV at 8/7c, Hulk Hogan is putting you in the Draft War Room and “On The Clock”. A new wrestler steps into each X-Division Contender match with the ultimate goal of advancing to an X-Division title match. Chris Sabin returns in that spot on the May 2nd edition of Impact! But the choice of the next new contender is in your hands!

– After beating Miss Tessmacher, Mickie James is the new number-one contender to the Knockouts Championship! On Thursday night LIVE on SpikeTV, Mickie James will get her shot at the gold when she battles titleholder Velvet Sky! Can Mickie James once again become the Knockouts champion – or will Velvet continue her dominance in the women’s ranks?

– Also on Thursday night, the Tag Team Championship will be on the line as Chavo Guerrero and Hernandez defend against former titleholders, Bobby Roode and Austin Aries! In the ongoing war between two of the top tag teams in pro wrestling, who will win the battle for the gold on Thursday’s broadcast? Don’t miss it!

– Plus, which side is AJ Styles on – with TNA or the Aces and Eights? After beating James Storm this past week and laying out Bad Influence after the match, Styles still refuses to make his allegiance known to the wrestling world! Everyone wants answers, but AJ isn’t talking! What is his future in TNA? Tune in Thursday night for an update!

* JEFF HARDY Talks About Why He’s With TNA Over WWE, His Relationship With Matt

Jeff Hardy Talks About Why He’s With TNA Over WWE, His Relationship With Matt

Newsday.com has published a recent interview with Jeff Hardy, which was conducted in Westbury, New York earlier this month over WrestleMania weekend. Here are some of the highlights of what Hardy said about:

Why He’s With TNA Instead Of WWE:

“I was in TNA years ago, and it’s just more alternative, and more different, and I’m a different kind of cat. I can be more of the enigma I want to be with the music and art and just a professional wrestler in general. The WWE kind of limits it with what you can do, and here I can express my spirit more.”

What Inspired Him to Become a Wrestler:

“Back in the day when I’d see Hulk Hogan, The Ultimate Warrior, Sting — especially The Ultimate Warrior and Sting — with the face paint and the larger than life characters, I was obsessed with it. And then I learned more about professional wrestling and the beauty that does exist in it. It truly is an art, and I became obsessed with it and I said, ‘this is what I have to do'”.

His Relationship with Matt:

“We have a great relationship. He is working some Ring of Honor shows and working a lot of independent shows. So he’s staying busy. He’s prretty much his own boss. But yeah, we still stay in touch.”

Bobby Roode Interview: TNA Contract Lapsing, Impact On The Road

TNA star Bobby Roode recently spoke to Canada’s SLAM! Sports and had this to say about the following topics:

His TNA Contract Lapsing Back In March:

“Honestly with the TNA situation, a lot of it had to do with the visa paperwork and stuff like that, being a Canadian and having to come and work in the United States. Everything just fell into place very quickly. It wasn’t like I was sitting at home for months at a time, stewing and looking for different things to do.”

TNA Impact Leaving Orlando & Going On The Road

“It’s obviously not as convenient. Let’s face it, for eight years, we were going down to Orlando. We were going to the same hotel, going to the same areas. You became quite familiar with the area. You didn’t have a problem getting in or out. You knew exactly how much time you needed to get to the airport and all that stuff. Now, it’s a little different that way.”

“Honestly, if I’m getting on an airplane, whether I’m flying to Florida, or flying to Texas, or flying to wherever, it really doesn’t matter. It’s really nice to be able to come to different places and do our television show in front of real wrestling fans, fans that want to be there, and bought a ticket. In Orlando, a lot of times in the Impact Zone, it was a great home for us, but a lot of times, they were just park people, and families that just came because we were one of the attractions in the park. So you didn’t always get that excitement sometimes during the show. Now it’s different. We look forward to that. The travel is a little more, but it’s a good price to pay.”
