Don West Leaving TNA Wrestling

Longtime TNA employee Don West has given notice that he’s leaving the company, according to PWInsider.

West had been with the company since it was founded in 2002 and served as a lead announcer along with Mike Tenay until he was replaced by Taz. He has also been the head of TNA’s merchandise department since 2009, a role West was so good at that TNA sources have said will be nearly impossible to find somebody to fill his shoes.

West, who first got national television exposure as the zany pitchman for the Shop At Home network, brought his unique brand of sales skills on the road with TNA, where he’d set up a merchandise table inside the ring and other unique offers.

If you are not familiar with West’s work on the Shop at Home network, it’s absolutely legendary. You will NOT be ABLE to BELIEVE the INSANE deals he offered – selling everything from signed Barry Bonds baseball bats to MUST HAVE Beanie Baby collections. Here’s a classic clip from Don West on Shop At Home:

More On TNA’s Lawsuit Against WWE: WWE Lawyer Comments

TNA’s lawsuit against WWE has been picked up by The Associated Press and includes several new details not included in our original report.

To recap, TNA is suing WWE after former TNA employee Brian Wittenstein left TNA, was hired by WWE and provided WWE with sensitive company information, including details of TNA talent contracts. WWE released Wittenstein and contacted TNA about their former employee leaking information to WWE, however TNA feels WWE waited too long before contacting them (approximately 3 weeks).

The AP article states that TNA and WWE employee Brian Wittenstein had signed a non-disclosure agreement when he left TNA and agreed he would not pass on confidential information.

WWE lawyer Jerry McDevitt told the AP that WWE never asked Wittenstein to disclose any information about TNA and when he did, they fired him and then sent the information back to TNA. McDevitt told the AP:

“To us, it’s no good deed goes unpunished kind of thing. They sued us for doing the right thing.”

The AP tried to reach TNA’s lawyers and Wittenstein for comment but phone calls were not returned. The next hearing on the TNA vs. WWE lawsuit is set for June 11th.

Upon checking with reliable sources in TNA, we can report that basically, nobody’s willing to talk about it at this time.

News On King Mo’s Debut, Sacrifice Buyrate, Nese’s Release

– In anticipation of MMA fighter “King Mo” making his TNA debut this fall, TNA is having a custom throne built for his ring entrances. As previously reported, Mo has been seeking career advice from Sting and Hulk Hogan and will begin training at OVW this summer.

It’s expected King Mo will debut by November and his contract would see him working one Impact taping per month during the Bellator MMA fighting season.

– There is talk of using Douglas Williams as an agent for TNA live events or as a trainer at OVW

– According to early estimates, TNA’s recent Sacrifice PPV did around 8,000 to 9,000 buys. Sacrifice was the first PPV event that TNA posted on Youtube for purchase after it aired live, so they likely made some additional revenue from the online buys.

– To update the story of Anthony Nese being released from TNA, it was reportedly his decision to leave. Nese asked TNA for permission work a June 1st internet pay-per-view event for the PWS promotion in a tag team match against the legendary Great Muta. TNA turned down his request so he asked to be released so he could perform on the iPPV, which they granted.

TNA SUES WWE: Full Details, WWE Lawyer Responds

TNA Wrestling is suing WWE and former TNA/WWE office worker Brian Wittenstein for “interference with existing contracts, conversion, breach of contract, civil conspiracy, unfair competition, breach of loyalty” and violation of the Tennessee Uniform Trade Secrets Act.

The lawsuit alleges that Wittenstein, a former TNA employee with knowledge of sensitive company information, provided WWE insider information on contracts and other matters pertaining to TNA’s operations. The lawsuit alleges that WWE is now using the knowledge obtained from Wittenstein to poach TNA talent.

After departing TNA, Wittenstein was hired by WWE earlier this year and worked under Michael Hayes before getting let go in April. The lawsuit alleges that during this time period, Wittenstein provided WWE the inside information from TNA. WWE did not immediately inform TNA about their former employee leaking company information.

TNA claims that this information was presented on 5/7. Coincidentally, just days later, WWE Hall of Famer Ric Flair approached TNA management about being released from his contract. TNA alleges that Flair wanted out so he could return to WWE.

An injunction was issued earlier demanding that WWE & Wittenstein return whatever confidential information retained during his TNA tenure. They were both instructed not to destroy the material.

WWE attorney Jerry McDevitt commented to The Nashville City Paper:

“Our reaction is that no good deed ever goes unpunished. What the WWE did here is what you would hope any company would do in these circumstances it found itself in.”

Update On Ric Flair Leaving TNA & Possibly Returning To WWE

It’s been widely reported that Ric Flair is on the outs with TNA, with most people in the company under the impression that he won’t be back. There are conflicting stories as to whether Flair quit or if TNA ended the relationship.

Flair could wind up back in WWE, since he is a close personal friend of Triple H, his daughter just got signed to WWE developmental and WWE could use Flair to help with the WWE Network launch later this year. Under no circumstances would Flair ever wrestle in a WWE ring again after his elaborate “retirement” sendoff at WrestleMania 24.

Flair currently has a lucrative sponsorship deal in place with Coca Cola as the spokesperson for a new energy shot drink, however his financial situation (and lifestyle) is such that he will probably still need to work for years to come.

Dixie Carter Responds To Criticism Against Hulk Hogan

Speaking to Fight Club Chicago, TNA Wrestling President Dixie Carter defended Hulk Hogan against critics and explained what he means to her organization.

“I think people think he’s just showing up and collecting some big fat paycheck and it couldn’t be further from the truth. This guy, this legend in our business, truly surpasses the word wrestling itself. He is so immersed in our business and helping us grow our business on days he’s not even on shows. He’s driving an hour and a half to sit in on our agents’ meetings and help working with agents and the talent on the night of the show. If we have a pay-per-view and he’s not on it, he’s there. He’s working his tail off,” Carter said.

“And then you have, what does Hulk Hogan bring to a company such as ours and the doors it opens and the visibility it gives and that’s everything. He’s making business calls for us, he’s talking to advertisers, he’s showing up and working Viacom stuff. He’s as vested as you can possibly be and I think he will always be known for so many big big things throughout his career. I am hopeful that this period of his life, even when he’s not in the ring wrestling will be one that fans are so proud of how much he’s giving back to this sport and how much he’s giving back to this sport and how he’s helping these young guys grow and what he’s doing for our industry.”

Carter also discusses Kurt Angle, acquiring mixed martial star King Mo and more. The audio interview is available at Sportstownchicago.com/fightclub.

Alex Shelley Reportedly Leaving TNA

According to various online reports, former TNA Tag Team Champion and X Division Champion Alex Shelley has finished his run with TNA. F4Wonline.com suggests that he made the decision to leave the company when his contract expires soon.

Shelley is a former TNA X-Division champion and held the TNA tag team championships with his Motor City Machine Guns partner Chris Sabin.

With the news that WWE has been reaching out to Cruiserweight talent for an all-cruiserweights show on the WWE Network this fall, the timing of Shelley asking for his release would make him eligible to participate in the project.

Major Heat On Ric Flair In TNA: Possibly Done With The Company

Ric Flair’s days in TNA could be coming to an end. According to a report at PWInsider.com, Flair’s recent conduct outside of the ring has been such a burden for TNA, the situation has reached a point where it’s not worth keeping him around anymore.

Ric Flair’s partying lifestyle, which has been his calling card for decades, is catching up with him once again. Flair has rung up several very expensive bar tabs and then stuck TNA with the bill. Flair was recently banned from the Hard Rock Cafe in Orlando and was recently pulled from TNA live events and TV tapings after another incident at an Orlando hotel that TNA previously had a strong working relationship with.

Several people in TNA were against bringing Flair in from the beginning due to his high price tag. The fact that he has failed to be a ratings or money draw for TNA has added even more tension to Flair’s relationship with the company.

Flair is also on the radar of Spike TV, with executives from the network reportedly instructing TNA to prohibit Flair from appearing “near nude” (in his wrestling gear) and bleeding on television.

As of this weekend, some believe Flair might have made his last appearance for TNA.

It’s worth noting that Ric Flair’s daughter Ashley just signed a developmental contract with WWE.

Update On Morrison & Melina Joining TNA, Kim’s Wedding Guests

— TNA Wrestling officials are interested in acquiring former WWE Superstars John Morrison and Melina as their names have come up in recent creative meetings. Both talents have continued to compete at independent wrestling events since parting ways with WWE last year.

— Gail Kim wed celebrity chef Robert Irvine on May 10 at the Charles Krug Winery in the Napa Valley in Northern California. The wedding was held on a Thursday so many of Kim’s friends from professional wrestling could attend. Among those in attendance were Alicia Fox, Beth Phoenix, Bully Ray, Christopher Daniels, Jeremy Borash, Kazarian, Molly Holly, Natalya, Tara, Traci Brooks and Tyson Kidd. Stacy Keibler was invited to attend the wedding but instead opted for George Clooney’s fund-raiser for United States President Obama.

— Angelina Love commented on Brooke Hogan being named Executive in Charge of the Knockouts, tweeting, “@IMPACTWRESTLING goes LIVE May 31st at 8pm all summer long! And Brooke Hogan (@MizzHogan) is in charge of the Knockouts….maybe she’ll be my new BFF?! #blondeshavemorefun.”

Kurt Angle Talks 2012 Olympics, Working Babyface & Retirement

TNA star Kurt Angle recently spoke to Mississippi’s Clarion Ledger to promote this weekend’s TNA’s live events tour. Kurt’s interviews are good for a few laugh out loud quotes – and this one’s no exception. Here are some highlights of what our Olympic Gold Medalist said about:

Pulling Out Of The 2012 Summer Olympic Trials:

“I was actually 12 days out from the trials. I tore my MCL ligament in my knee. I can still pro wrestle but it does limit me.In 1996, I broke my neck before the Olympics. I still competed, but I had nothing to lose. I didn’t have a family. I didn’t have a lot of money. And it might be my only opportunity to make the team. And thank God I did it. I was getting Novocaine shots in my neck. I couldn’t have Cortisone because it was illegal. So I went through the Olympic trials and the Olympics with my neck broken, so a lot of people said, “Why don’t you try out this year with your knee injury?”

And I said, “Because I don’t want to make it worse, because I do have a family. I have a job. And if I’m not working, I don’t get paid.” So I have a lot to lose now and I had to back out for personal reasons.”

Why He Can No Longer Play A Heel:

“I’ve done everything, from comedy to being the badass. … I think my character now is more true to life than I’ve ever been. It’s just the real Kurt Angle. I think it’s because, thank God, I got to the point where fans now look at me as one of the best of all time. So it’s kind of hard to be the bad guy now, when the fans have the respect for you.

The Reason He Hasn’t Retired Yet:

I probably would have retired a a couple of years ago if I wasn’t so good,” Angle laughed. “It sounds very arrogant. I know it sounds very pompous, but yeah, when I started, I didn’t realize I was going to pick it up so quickly.”

TNA Knockout & X-Division Wrestler Released From TNA

TNA Knockout Traci Brooks has been released from TNA. She reportedly left on good terms and wants to move on to other projects.

Sparingly used X Division wrestler Anthony Nese was also granted his release from TNA Wrestling on Thursday. Nese asked organization officials for permission to compete at Pro Wrestling Syndicate’s June 1 online pay-per-view event after being approached with an opportunity to step in the ring with The Great Muta. He was informed that he would not be able to. He then requested his release from the organization, which was granted. He wrote the following on Twitter about his release:

“I wanted to be the first to inform everyone that I have requested my release from TNA Wrestling. As a professional wrestler I have many goals and dreams that I work hard to achieve, one of them was to have the opportunity to perform in front of a live audience on national television and I thank TNA Wrestling for providing me with that opportunity. Another goal of mine is to wrestle against some of the top international superstars with the chances to travel the world and work for some of the best international companies that have the best talent in wrestling today.

“I have recently been approached with an opportunity to step in the ring with The Great Muta, a wrestling legend, and one of All Japan Pro Wrestling’s top wrestlers Kai. This is an opportunity that I feel with help me further my goals and career. This event will be provided via IPPV and unfortunately my TNA contract did not allow me to perform on such events. I requested that an exception would be granted given my lack of appearances but was denied. My next action was to request a release as I think it will be in my best interest.

“I would like to thank TNA Wrestling for helping me achieve one of my goals as it is very few in this business that are able to say they have. I would also like to thank all the people that support me as this is just a small chapter coming to an end in my career and I have many more exciting opportunities in my future to come.”

His profile was subsequently removed from ImpactWrestling.com.

Waltman Predicts TNA Will Be Part Of WWE’s Video Catalog

Sean “X-Pac” Waltman took to Twitter on Wednesday to vent on former employer TNA Wrestling. He directed his frustration toward organization president Dixie Carter’s account with a series of messages.

“Highly disappointed with you as a person who claims to care. More disappointed in your handling of the only alternative to WWE,” he wrote. “Been meaning to tell you that since your Co. tried to make it look like I no showed your PPV.”

Waltman was scheduled for a tag team match at the 2010 Lockdown pay-per-view event, but was absent. On the night of the show, announcers were instructed to say that Waltman had no shown. He reportedly let organization officials know days in advance that he was not cleared to wrestle by the Missouri State Commission due to his hepatitis C diagnosis and was not going to be able to attend the event. He is now denying the story.

Waltman explains, “They knew I wouldn’t be there for over a week. They alluded that I no showed was bcuz I was on a drug binge. They lied to the PPL. The thing is that it’s easy to believe a story like that about me, which makes it even more of a low life move.”

When a Twitter user wrote to Waltman that if he wasn’t a “boozer and a fool,” he might still be employed by TNA, he responded, “@TNADixie Had nothing to do with it. Plus are u serious w/ the crew they have there. Plus, I am sober & never cared 4 booze.”

Waltman then continued railing the organization’s upper hierarchy and made a stark prediction.

“Im just sick of @TNADixie running around playing this benevolent role, when it’s a facade. BTW Congrats on hiring Bruce Pritchard. Perfect fit . Oine of the biggest lowlifes in the business. Treats ppl like shit if he can,” Waltman wrote. “Mark my words TNA will be a part of WWE’s video catalog before the decade is up. I dont hope. I just think it’s a matter of time. Unfortunately. I love the crew over there. Great guys, almost all of them.”

Matt Hardy Issues Statement Saying He Is At Peace

Former WWE & TNA star Matt Hardy telling fans that he is currently in a much better place after a very chaotic time in his life. In a message posted to Facebook on Tuesday night, Hardy claims to have focus and perspective and says he has a better understanding of his life than ever:

“There’s been times in the past that I’ve had focus & perspective, and it’s served me well.. But currently in life, I have focus, perspective, & experience-and I have a better understanding of my life than I ever have. I no longer have any unanswered questions about who I am or what I need to do to be comfortable in my own skin. I am fulfilled, I am whole, and I am at peace with myself and everyone else. As ironic as it seems, traveling through the dark showed me how much I love the light. I still have a few lingering wildfires that I started in the past that I have to address and put out.. And I will. When I say I no longer have boundaries, it’s because the only boundary that was holding me back in life was me. Now I can be what I’ve always been destined to be. God bless us all.”
