Shane Douglas Labels Triple H An Overachiever, Discusses TNA

Shortly before Extreme Reunion, Shane Douglas appeared on Inside The Ropes to discuss TNA Wrestling, Sabu’s personal problems, Ric Flair almost joining ECW in 1998 and more (audio available at here). Highlights are as follows:

Wiping the mat with the WWF in the 1990s: “If we’d had a backer like Panda Energy or Ted Turner, I think….no I know we’d have wiped the mat with the WWF. Paul Heyman was that talented a booker and our dressing room was that talented. Vince McMahon ripped everything off from us. He’ll tell you he didn’t but it’s as blatant as the nose on my face.”

Sabu: “I remember in 1993, sitting in the back watching him, I’d never met him. He hit a triple moonsault, I jumped out of my seat as a fan, I’ve always been a huge mark for Sabu. I spent this past weekend with Sabu and he’s been going through a tough time recently with his family and his wife and things. I’ve heard all sorts of horror stories about Sabu that he turns up at shows not able to perform.”

How TNA Wrestling creatively handles their talent: “I look at Dixie’s dressing room and you have Samoa Joe, Bobby Roode, AJ Styles, Christopher Daniels, they had Petey Williams. I’m a mark for those guys. That said, I’m anything but a mark…. I’m a critic for the way that talent has been used. I hope that in a year from now, I’ll be able to say I’m booking for the Bobby Roodes, AJ Styles and Samoa Joes as opposed to having to sit back and watch them being mis-used by a company that just doesn’t get it.”

Difference between ECW and TNA Wrestling: “Without going into my whole TNA rant, she’s over $150 million in the red, has nothing to show for it. Hasn’t produced one bankable star in 7 years. The original ECW on the other hand launched in 1993, spent $8.27 million dollars, and in 7 years how many bankable stars did ECW, Paul Heyman create? Dixie was onto a decent idea and then instead of going with what could have given her Dad some return on his money, she went with the whole Hulk Hogan/Ric Flair routine. My personal differences aside with those guys, the fact that in 2012, we’re still talking about the guys that headlined wrestling in 1984, is laughable at best, sad at worst.”

His promo work being copied by “Stone Cold” Steve Austin Austin (obscenity laced spiels) and CM Punk (worked shoots): “Well to say it’s not true would be ignorant. The fact I’ve carved out a niche in the business and had an almost 30 year career and done well without competing at a WrestleMania is something I’m proud of. To be in a business that’s dominated by one guy and be able to do well without having to walk on that stage is great.”

Why he left his successful run in ECW in 1995 for WWF as Dean Douglas: “The way it was pitched to me isn’t the way it played out. It took 7 or 8 trips up there for me to sign. There was something in the back of my gut that told me it wasn’t the right fit. I no desire to leave ECW but in 95, I was reaching my mid 30’s I’d been the World Champ multiple times…I’d pretty much done everything in ECW, all I could do is repeat. That was one of the reasons I didn’t wanna miss an opportunity to make a living for my family. The last time I went there, I took my ex-wife with me, and I was working as a teacher 5 days making good money and making pretty good money the two nights a week working for ECW, she looked McMahon in the eye and said “What could you possibly offer my husband to make him leave all that and being home in bed with me every night?” and he leaned across the table and he stroked her hand and said “You have my word as a gentleman that I’ll make your husband a very wealthy man” He went on to tell me “its not uncommon for someone in the position we’re putting you in to earn $300,000 a year minimum base salary” I spoke to Piper, Hennig etc and they said Vince told them the same thing and they got rich. I called home one night and my wife said the cheques hadn’t been great and she said they all came to $1400 and I told her to add them up and she said that was them all added up.”

Whether he was comfortable with his feud with Ric Flair being put on television in 2000 in WCW?: “Hell Yeah. If a company is investing a seven figure income to me, which Bischoff did for me for three years, but I’ll go into any situation in the ring. I’m a professional.”

Ric Flair negotiating with ECW in 1998: “Flair had started discussions with ECW when he had his problems with Bischoff, about working with me. His concern to Paul Heyman was, that I would shoot on him. He wanted $150,000 for one match which we couldn’t possibly afford that. So I suggested to Paul, offer back to him, 3 shows, first one in Charlotte. I put him over, 55 minutes. Second, Pittsburgh he puts me over, same time frame. Third time in Philadelphia, I have no doubts that promoted well, we could’ve sold the Spectrum out.”

Quick Fire Thoughts

Triple H: An overachiever. He doesn’t seem to have the skillset to get to the position he’s at. But in saying that he’s a good ring general and I think he’s the one guy in the locker room that could’ve worked in the original ECW.

Bret Hart: He’s one of those guys, he’s the universe’s Ric Flair. When I met Flair, he fell far short of a hero or someone to look up to. When I met Bret, I was shocked at what a down to earth guy he was and just worked his tail to get to where he was.

Dixie Carter: Way out of her league.

Hulk Hogan: He’s the phenomenon that he’s believed to be. I do believe Hogan is as big an icon in our business. He always made sure he left time for the kids at Make a Wish Foundation.

In response, Steiner issued a warning to Bischoff as well as Hulk Hogan, and also disclosed the meaning of “609.” Steiner wrote:

There you are u little bitch,bn tweeting for 4 wks now n u decide to respond when i tweeted

About being at a Shoneys To Go Grand Opening….Really….Im playing poker with you and ive

already told you what my hand is and the significance of 609,and the shoneys tweet

Bcuz Shoneys corporate offices are also in Nashville, but as you like to brag your too high class and make

Too much money to eat at a place like that, well the # 609 suggests you aint high class at all

So for everybody that has bn tweeting me back asking what is the significance of 609 and why

Chant 609 when either bitchoff enters the ring,is bcuz 609 is part of a larger # that eric owns n now

Garrett is going to have to live with,

The full sequence is 1:19-CR-609 and its represents bitchoffs docket # when he testified under oath

In Atlanta’s Gold Club trial

More later on his exact testimony which is very revealing and humurous bcuz it shows what a

Weasle he is,which i will also post on my website,

Bitchoff u need to worry about the crowds that Tna is drawing since u 3 assholes have taken control

2,500 ppl were at the last ppv in nashville, the home base of Tna and alot of those were freebee’s,

Bitchoff cant deny anything that i tweeted about bcuz its all true,so hes trying to change the focus

Saying im to old slow & boring..really check out the Ring ka King footage

That i didnt want to move over for the younger guys, all i did was try to elevate guys and pass the torch

Ask any wrestler better yet look at the tape,im not a mark like hogan and have to have creative control

Bcuz ppl dont care who wins or loses, they want to be entertained, hogan living in his fantansy world

Actually believes hes winning

Trust me bitchoff ,u and hogan are about to find out im the last guy you should have fuckd with

Eric Bischoff Responds To Scott Steiner’s Rants, Says He’s Bitter

Eric Bischoff has finally responded to Scott Steiner’s numerous messages on Twitter over the past month blasting him and TNA Wrestling.

After “Big Poppa Pump” wrote Thursday afternoon on the social networking website, “At Shoney’s to Go Grand Opening in Buford….awesome food,” the TNA Wrestling executive responded, “50+ year old man pitching greasy fried chicken in Buford and wrestling indys in front of 250 fans…bitter?”

Bischoff feels it’s ironic that Steiner complains about young talent not rising in TNA Wrestling while simultaneously ripping his 28-year-old wrestler son Garrett: “Its hard for some guys to move over and let the younger talent rise. Irony? One of Scotts bitches in his 20’s and 30’s.”

Bischoff then retweeted comments on his timeline with an anti-Steiner stance, many of which accusing him of drug abuse.

“@ScottSteiner @HulkHogan @EBischoff Steiner’s bitter. He’d be there tomorrow if he were called upon. His matches were slow and boring anyway.”

“@ScottSteiner U must have a sad fuckin life if all u do is waffle on about @HulkHogan and @EBischoff all day on this #steroidjunkie.”

“@ScottSteiner You’re tweets make as much sense as your promos did… In other words, you’re a babbling, old, drug abusing fool @EBischoff.”

“@ScottSteiner Get a life you complete tit, Spending all day going on about @EBischoff and @HulkHogan get some respect.”

“@EBischoff Scott Steiner sounds like a disgruntled ex girlfriend!”

“@EBischoff don’t listen to the dabbling jealous wreck that is @scottsteiner, WWE needs to offer him the ex-employees the wellness rehab.”

“@EBischoff it would appear that Scott steiner has his head in his ass, as well as a needle.”

A Twitter user also wrote, “@EBischoff I bet if Hulk sold used toilet paper, it would triple the sales of @ScottSteiner merchandise. Bischoff responded, “Thats being generous. Be kind to Scott. His AARP card is active and it’s an adjustment for him.”

Bischoff also took aim at Shane Douglas, who has accused the TNA Wrestling executive of “killing pro wrestling” in multiple interviews: “It takes a while…but eventually they get it. Shane is a loud mouth never-been, never will be, bitter old man trying to relive.”

Scott Steiner Continues Railing Hulk Hogan, Blasts New Concept

Scott Steiner, who parted ways with TNA Wrestling in March, has continued to fire off messages on Twitter trashing his former employer. In his latest series of messages, “Big Poppa Pump” rips Hulk Hogan over his reported concept calling for fans to film TNA Wrestling talent whenever they may encounter them. The multi-time champion also recalls a conversation with Sting where both shared displeasure with Orlando Jordan portraying a bisexual character. Steiner says:

“Everytime hogan talks to the media without a script he sounds like a F’n idiot. Now hogan is sayin hes going to give more power to the fans get them more involved Make them more important,BUT,thats all he can speak on it right now,F*CK R U kidding me no other business in the world would allow 2 assholes to come into a company, Drive it to the lowest ratings EVER continue the low ratings for 2 1/2 cut down most employees In the media, and still have a job, what is Tna n Spike Tv officials thinking.”

“First off hogan, there is nobody more important than the fans, without fans There is no wrestling, dumbass, and second theres this new invention calld the nielson ratings system And the fans are choosing not to be involved in the bullshit that you n bitchoff brought to Tna And are using their power to change the channel.”

“This new brand, concept will be a fraud just like changing it to impact wrestling where”wrestling matters” Which was a crock of shit bcuz nothing changed, this is nothing but smoke But they are not wrestlings target audience, wrestlings demographics are basically the same as nascar fans.”

“now i have NOTHING against gay ppl “to each his own” Hogan brought in Orlando Jordan n introduced the wrestling audience to the first openly gay. Plus we were filming at universal where the fans were familys with kids from the park,at first They did segments with Orlando in front of the live crowd n some familys were appaud n left Bcuz his first stuff was him lusting over another wrestling which was bullshit,so then they starting doing His segments backstage,so the live crowd wouldnt see them.”

“so im talking with Sting in the impact Zone one day,and we are both saying WTF is going on around here and he said he was going to Say something and that he cant watch the show anymore,so i start asking questions and find out that In the production meetings hogan thinks he could be the world champion, which i didnt understand Why at the time, then later his ex-wife comes out n said he was gay. Hogan i know u think u have a Strong brand name, but when yur ex-wife says yur gay You were Branded .:…..brother.”

“Every PPv sunday tna would have chapel and sting was pissed at the hypocrisy of it all But thats what hogan wanted,of course his business partner and lap dog was backing him Sayin controversy creates cash ….bullshit .. U motherfuckers need to get a grip.”

Scott Steiner Trashes Eric Bischoff Again In Latest Rant

Here is the latest Twitter rant from Scott Steiner, once again trashing Bischoff & Hogan:

“With eric bn gone chant 609 when garrett is in the ring… Instead of getting rid of the guys who are the problem they keep paying hogan n bitchoff n try To save money else where, they no longer fly Taz n Tenay in for the tapings they Do voice overs in nashville..i betcha eric will try n replace them/one bn himself/ Saying hes saving the company money

“As i tweeted 3 wks ago jeremy Borash was the other guy that b-tchoff ripped on social Media which alot of guys came to his defense and called eric a piece of sh-t,so he realize he got heat so thats where That segment came from when Jeremy calld him out on open fight night tryin to defuse the heat by Putting it on the show, which then 609Garrett came out at the end of show to save the day..wtf bullsh-t… The thing is Borash has done more for TNA than b-tchoff has,and hes bn there since the beginning, And the last time i checkd all b-tchoff does is kill the ratings, and as bad as it is with him pushing his son

“The original plan was much worse, hogan n bitchhoff sons were going to wrestling camp at same time… Thank god hogans son has his p-ssy genes and quit otherwise the fans would have to suffer with These 2 a**holes nepotism’s their non athletic sons to the top,as soon as bitchhoff leaves TNA,609Garrett Career will be over, bcuz guys will kick his ass out of spite bcuz Eric is such a piece of sh*t”

Hulk Hogan’s “New Concept” For TNA Possibly Revealed

Hulk Hogan recently told the New York Post that he has a “new concept” that will “change the business” and be a “momentum shifting” idea. Hogan is so confident that the idea will work that he told the post:

“We are going to give more power to the fans, make them more involved and more important. I can’t say much more, but I can say this, I’m either going to be really right on this one or really wrong. If I’m wrong, you probably won’t see me again because I’ll be hightailing it out of here.”

Now, word has gotten out about what the concept is – and we’re left wondering whether Hogan’s days in TNA could be numbered.

At Monday’s Impact Wrestling tapings, the word going around the TNA locker room is that the new concept is something where TNA will be calling on their fans to film TNA wrestlers whenever they may encounter them, in or out of the ring, TMZ/paparazzi-style.

Sources in TNA say talent is not thrilled with the idea, with people joking about Hogan encouraging “candid footage” of TNA stars – considering how badly his own image has been hurt by TMZ coverage (his divorce, Nick Hogan’s car wreck, his sex tape, etc.).

Scott Steiner Continues Trashing TNA, Rips Thursday’s Impact

Scott Steiner, who parted ways with TNA Wrestling last month, has continued to fire off messages on Twitter trashing his former employer. In his latest series of messages, “Big Poppa Pump” rips Thursday’s episode of Impact Wrestling and urges fans to voice their complaints to TNA Wrestling President Dixie Carter. He wrote:

Lets keep the momentum going to save Tna and turn rhe channel when u see a hogan or bitchoff

Segment wait 5 mins n turn it back, also keep tweeting Dixie that its time to save Tna

How appropiate the show ended with shit

Im glad everybody is agreeing with what i said last wk about open fight night

Brillant booking by the 3 assholes what a waste of airtime on the indy wrestler..wtf really

Is everybody believing me now that pritchard was just a go’fer in the WWE,how many bad shows

Do the Tna fans have to suffer thru b4 Tna n spike tv officials realize he is lying

Keep tweeting @tnadixie to voice yur opinon to save Tna from the same fate as WCW

How stupid fake n out of date did hogans backstage promos look, like i said if hogan isnt sayin

Shane Douglas Says TNA Payed ECW Originals $250

ECW Original Shane Douglas spoke with Mister Saint Laurent on MLW Radio, the official podcast of Major League Wrestling. Douglas talked about his Extreme Reunion, thoughts on Vince McMahon as a promoter and more. The full interview can be heard on MLW.com or iTunes.

Douglas talked about TNA President Dixie Carter paying ECW Originals a low amount of money for the TNA Hardcore Justice pay-per-view:

“After Dixie Carter did her show [Hardcore Justice] and paid the guys a ridiculous sum of money, $250 to go out there and do what we do better than most people do, that to me was just so disrespectful. For somebody who has been born and raised in a billion dollar household with a silver spoon in her mouth and up her backside, to ask guys to go out there and do that, for that little bit of money and then when it did better than any pay-per-view event in the last five years, didn’t even offer so much as an extra penny on top of it.”

“I said then and I stand by it, shame on you Dixie Carter that you’d expect anybody to do that in this day and age. At the same time she pays Ric Flair, 62, 63 years old, $35,000 a night. 60 year old Hulk Hogan, $75,000 a night and then somehow figures that these guys that come from ECW just don’t have any value or worth at all. I plan on disproving that.”

Velvet Sky On Transition To Singles Wrestler, Dream Opponent

Promoting TNA Wrestling’s live event at the War Memorial Auditorium in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, Velvet Sky addressed a number of topics in an lengthy interview with The Miami Herald including her transition to a singles competitor, the state of the Knockouts division, becoming the Women’s Knockout Champion last year her dream opponent and more. Highlights are as follows:

Branching out as a singles wrestler after being attached to Angelina Love: “For a while it was me and Angelina [Love in The Beautiful People]. I was never able to shine really and do anything on my own because she was always in the spotlight.

“Since then, they’ve broken up the Beautiful People, which I’m sad about because I wish they were still going forward with that. We had a lot of fun, her and I together, but I just feel like they broke us up, and I was able to be on my own as a singles competitor.

“I just feel I have grown in the sense of you don’t have someone to have your back all the time. You don’t have the option to tag out and recuperate. I feel, more or less, being a singles competitor instead of in a tag team has helped me branch out and come into my own as a performer.”

TNA providing the Knockouts the time to tell stories each week and the freedom to progress: “It’s awesome here because TNA lets us explore character development. We are not just coming out there as girls wrestling and then you don’t see us for a couple of weeks. We get to do backstage vignettes and promos. They let us speak on the microphone, and we do a lot of it in the ring. You don’t see that elsewhere.

“There are matches [elsewhere] where the girls will wrestle for three minutes or so and go to the back. They don’t say a word, and you really don’t know who is who. Here [TNA] we are so grateful we get the chance to be able to come into our own, have time to talk and have our characters develop. I just feel like that has us connected with the fans more.”

Her dream opponent: “I would absolutely love to work with Amy Dumas one day, the wrestler formally known as Lita.

“She is the whole reason I wanted to get into this business. I have always been a fan of wrestling here and there, but when I saw her for the first time, I was just so blown away by her look and athletic ability and how she connected to the crowd, whether it was male or female.

“I try to pattern myself after her. I don’t do the high-flying maneuvers, staying on the ground, but she is the whole reason I wanted to get into this business and got into wrestling. If she were to come here, I think that would be awesome. I would love to work with her one day.”

Hogan Says Going Live Would Solve 75% Of TNA’s Problems

TNA’s “General Manager” Hulk Hogan recently answered several questions from fans about the TNA product.

Impact Going Live: “would solve 75% of the issues, but they need money to do it. He has “been beating that drum for the last 2yrs.”

Wrestling Needing A New Era: “Getting my head really wrapped around the fan business requests and how to transition Impact Wrestling beyond the Mania, Attitude era, nWo era. Not just grow in a black beard or just switch a title or just verbally say were changing, I’m talking about really changing [the] foundation to put wrestling in a whole new era. I know I came up with the idea, I’m gonna really flush it out before I drop the bomb on you Maniacs.

She also addressed the organization’s “Open Fight Night” concept: “So excited for #OpenFightNight next Thurs on @SpikeTV! Just one of several changes coming to #ImpactWrestling. Who do you want to see fight?”

— Kazarian addressed his haircut in an interview with The Roman Show.

“It is what it is; it is a haircut nothing more nothing less,” he said. “Pro wrestling and entertainment itself is all about reinventing itself. You look fresh and everything. But, I am still heavy metal. It is easier to manage as a fighter its one less thing that gets in the way in the heat of battle.”

This week … a VERY special episode of IN THE ROOM on WEXP 1600 AM Philly and TheBradyHicks.com., as Brady Hicks welcomes AJ Styles IN THE ROOM to talk all about the progress TNA has been making, as well as to hype up their appearances at Lockdown this past Sunday night in Nashville.

On TNA’s youth movement, as it stands: “They’re … WE are definitely in a better place. If we’re making new stars, that’s what we need to do. We gotta build that foundation, and it starts by making new stars. You can’t rely on Rob Van Dam and Jeff Hardy and guys like that who have been around for awhile …. or even AJ Styles for that matter. You have to continue to build new stars to rely on and to keep it fresh.”

On the development of Bobby Roode and James Storm: “I gotta tell you, when those two broke up as a tag team I thought, ‘Oh man, that’s the worst thing that could ever happen to tag team wrestling.’ Literally these guys were the best in the world as a tag team … It’s crazy what has happened with them over time. I can’t say that I don’t want to see this match happen because I do.”

On Being in the locker room with guys like Ric Flair, Hulk Hogan, Sting and Kurt Angle: “It’s a great thing to have around. If you can soak up as much information as they’re putting out. You can only get better with those guys around you … These guys have done a lot in this business. If you can soak up some of that information. The sky’s the limit.”

On his Relationship with Ric Flair: “I soaked up so much information from Ric Flair that I realized he’s kind of a douche-bag. Neither Fortune nor myself wanted to be around him any more. Fortune kind of imploded because of it.”

On Bobby Roode as champion: “Like it or not, Bobby Roode is the best world heavyweight champion RIGHT NOW. The guy is good. You can’t deny that fact. He looks good. He wrestles even better than he looks. This guy is unstoppable at this point in his career.”

On TNA overtaking WWE: “It’s not going to happen overnight. We don’t have the money that the other company has. We just have to take it slow … When we move to0 fast, that’s how you destroy a company.”

All that, plus AJ’s thoughts on competing in the steel cage each year at Lockdown, being a main-event player once again, taking Impact live once again, and on the road, what Fortune did for each member’s career, getting to compete each week against his best friends in the business, and so much more.
