Spike TV President Talks About Taking Impact On The Road

Spike TV President Kevin Kay recently commented on the possibility of taking Impact Wrestling on the road more often. He said:

“It was a mutual (Spike & TNA) decision. Dixie and Eric came in and pushed for it. I always wanted to do it. It’s great to have a home, but you don’t get the level of excitement as you do on the road. It adds a another level. We’re continuing discussions.”

“We haven’t seen a (ratings) bump, but you can’t judge ratings week-to-week, some weeks things happen like competition, even though TNA holds up well against sports. As we can afford to continue it or increase it, it’s a financial decision. It adds a lot of excitement and vibrancy to the show.”

Moving forward, it appears TNA will be taping Impact from Orlando the night after pay-per-views and then the tapings prior to the next PPV will be on the road. No new Impact tapings outside of Orlando have been announced at this time.

TNA Turning Point 2011

Warning: The following contains MAJOR *SPOILERS* for the next 2 weeks of Impact Wrestling

Following Wednesday night’s double TNA Impact Wrestling tapings from Macon, Georgia – we have a good idea of what the card is looking like for TNA Turning Point on November 13th. As you may have heard by now – Bobby Roode is our new TNA World champion, defeating James Storm last night (on the episode airing 11/3).

*SPOILERS* TNA Impact Wrestling Results (11/10)

*SPOILERS* TNA Impact Tapings Results (11/3)

Here’s the current card for TNA Turning Point:

TNA World Heavyweight Title Match
Bobby Roode (c) vs. AJ Styles

TNA X Division Title Match
Austin Aries (c) vs. Jesse Sorensen vs. Kid Kash

Matt Morgan vs. Crimson

Based on what occurred at Wednesday’s tapings, Rob Van Dam vs. Christopher Daniels and Jeff Hardy vs. Jeff Jarrett also look like they’ll be happening. TNA is building up a feud between Eric Bischoff and his son Garrett, so there’s a chance this match will get booked as well.

Gail Kim vs. Velvet Sky for the Knockouts Title had been announced for Turning Point, but since Gail Kim and Madison Rayne won the Knockouts Tag Team Titles at the tapings, its unknown whether the Knockouts title match will still take place.

Bound For Glory Buyrate, Bischoff’s Son In Line For Big Push

– Preliminary estimates are in for TNA Bound For Glory – and they’re not good. Bound For Glory drew approximately 20,000-25,000 buys – which is way down from last year’s 35,000-40,000 figure.

In somewhat of an ‘apples-to-oranges’ comparison – Hulk Hogan’s previous match on pay-per-view (SummerSlam 2006 against Randy Orton, headlined by John Cena vs. Edge) drew 535,000 worldwide buys. Ouch.

– Eric Bischoff’s son Garrett is expected to get a big push as a babyface star in the coming months. He has a good look, but many are skeptical because it’s highly unlikely he would have a job if it wasn’t for his father. The track record of people in power pushing their sons is spotty at best.

As we reported earlier this week – there’s preliminary talk about Hulk Hogan returning to the ring once again in a few months in a tag team match against Ric Flair and Eric Bischoff, with Hogan’s partner being either Sting or Garrett Bischoff.

Bischoff High On Bully Ray, Impact Taping Schedule

– TNA executive Eric Bischoff had some great things to say about Bully Ray on Facebook this week after watching Bully Ray’s work on this week’s Impact (airing tonight).

“Watched this weeks version of IMPACT for edit notes at 3 am this morning. IMO Bully Ray is emerging as one or the top talents in the business today. Flawless.”

Bully Ray faces Jeff Hardy on this week’s episode of Impact Wrestling, airing tonight on Spike.

– TNA will tape Impact Wrestling tonight in Macon, Georgia – including the November 3rd episode that will see the debut of MTV Jersey Shore star Ronnie Ortiz-Magro.

Following tonight’s tapings in Georgia, the rest of the 2011 Impact Wrestling shows will be taped at the Impact Zone in Orlando.

In late December, TNA will tape five weeks of Impact over four days and then will take the holiday vacation. Over the holidays, officials are planning to re-evaluate the future of taping Impact outside of Orlando.

He tweeted Tuesday, “I think it’s awesome that I’m to “southern”. It makes me….ME. So to the people who don’t like it… Sorry about you damn luck. And a little FYI it’s not to southern, it’s to redneck and the are beer drinking rednecks all over THE WORLD not just the south.”

— Eric Bischoff praised Bully Ray on Facebook after watching his performance on this week’s episode of Impact Wrestling.

He wrote, “Watched this weeks version of IMPACT for edit notes at 3 am this morning. IMO Bully Ray is emerging as one or the top talents in the business today. Flawless.”

Ray faces Jeff Hardy on the show that will air Thursday.

Gail Kim Says She Knew She’d Return To TNA

Diva Dirt caught up with the woman of the moment, Gail Kim, Monday for an exclusive interview about her return to TNA, quitting WWE and much more.

Gail made a “kimpact”, if you will, when she returned to Impact Wrestling last Thursday on Spike TV — and was even a worldwide trending topic on Twitter!

In this 50 minute interview, Gail discusses her return to the company she calls “home”, reveals more details about her time in WWE, frustration at the way the Divas are used and more.

Gail, who is due to marry TV chef Robert Irvine (Food Network’s Restaurant Impossible) next year, also reveals an upcoming TV project: an episode of TLC’s “Say Yes to the Dress” which she filmed a month or so ago.

On her return to TNA: “During the time that Johnny [John Laurinaitis] said that he wanted to re-sign me, I already kinda knew that I didn’t want to re-sign and it was just a matter of timing because I was under contract. That was pretty much my plan the whole entire time; to go back to TNA.”

“Everybody was very positive and happy and said, ‘We’re so glad to have you back’. First off, I’m really happy that they were happy to see me back. The first thing I always said was, ‘You know, I already knew I’d be back’. I even said it in my last interview on the [Knockouts] DVD – hopefully, I’ll finish my career there. That’s always what I pictured, anyway. […] I always hoped for the best there [in WWE], obviously, and it didn’t turn out the way I had pictured completely, but I’m back where I pictured I would be. I’m just happy with the way everything turned out.”

“I’m a true believer in everything happens for a reason. I was meant to leave there [TNA] at that time. […] I think it was a refresher in some ways, too, for me to leave and try something else and then come back to where my home was.”

On the growth of the Knockouts division since her last run: “Well, there’s a lot more girls, it seems like. We had a lot of girls back then, but we have a lot of girls now. […] I love it because the girls there are all from pretty much an independent background. You get to the point where you’re happy to be in a division where you know the girls can step it up, and that you can have a challenging match, and that you guys can rock the house, basically.”

On whether she made the right decision to quit WWE: “I’m very confident in my decision making. Everything happens for a reason. I made this decision for a reason. It’s supposed to happen.”

“I don’t regret anything. I always had to accept what they gave me. It wasn’t even about how they used me because I knew going in, I had to accept whatever they gave me & how they used me. It was more about the disrespect behind the scenes, and that’s what pushed me over the edge to say, ‘I just don’t wanna be here anymore. I’m miserable. I just have to leave for my own sanity’.”

On quitting instead of waiting for her contract to run its course: “I was pretty much at my wit’s end at that point. […] For my own sanity, like I said, I had to leave. I knew seven weeks out from my contract end, ‘Okay well, you know what? I know that I can survive financially, and take a little break, and be with my fiancé’. Him and I both discussed it because it’s a decision for both of us as well, for our lives. I just couldn’t take it anymore mentally or emotionally. Physically, no problem. But on the other end, you can’t go to work and feel like you’re just dreading it. I just didn’t wanna go to work anymore. I’ll miss my friends and the people there, but that’s about it. You can’t contribute to a company when you don’t feel passion anymore. It’s a waste of time.”

Gail talks about much more in the interview including working with Karen Jarrett and Madison Rayne in TNA, which WWE Divas she’d like to see in TNA, WWE controlling its Superstars & Divas and the projects they can do, her first match back on Impact with Tara this Thursday and much, much more.

The interview is available here.

Concern Over James Storm’s Title Reign, ODB As A Hooters Girl

— While many in the locker room are happy for James Storm capturing the TNA World Heavyweight Championship, according to one wrestler, there is more faith in Bobby Roode as champion over “The Tennessee Cowboy.” Concern also lingers about Storm being “too Southern” to represent TNA.

— Infrequently seen TNA Knockout ODB stated on Twitter that she will be a Hooters girl for Halloween.

She wrote, “I recieved my lil orange shorts n official tank top yep im gonna b the dirtiest hooters girl u have seen #bammmmm.”

— Gail Kim has been announced for K & S Wrestlefest, which takes place Saturday, December 3 at the Ramada Philadelphia Airport 76 Industrial Hwy. Essington, Pennsylvania.

*Spoiler* Plans For Hogan Next’s Scheduled Wrestling Match

Following Hulk Hogan’s wrestling return last Sunday at Bound for Glory and aftermath, TNA’s creative department is now building towards a match pitting The Hulkster and Garett Bischoff against Ric Flair and Eric Bischoff.

One TNA source believes the match will take place at Lockdown in April, but it is not definite. Nonetheless, this is the direction TNA intends to go for Hogan’s next grappling contest.

Sting defeated Hogan at Bound for Glory when referee Jackson James, who had earlier in the show been revealed as Bischoff’s real-life son Garett, reluctantly called the ring bell for a submission. This led to Eric hitting his son with a steel chair following the match, starting a rivalry between the two.

Ex-WWE Star Joining TNA’s India Brand, Rosita Launches Site

— As reported in recent weeks, TNA Wrestling is planning to launch an international brand by the end of the year that is being spearheaded by Jeff Jarrett. The new brand will be a weekly series in India that won’t be using the TNA brand name. Though no talent has been hired, a source close to former WWE performer Cliff Compton (a/k/a Domino) say he’s considered a lock to be hired following strong showings in Nigeria and Ohio Valley Wrestling. Compton has said that when he returns to prominence, he’ll be doing a new character and not a take-off of his 1950s greaser persona in WWE, Domino.

— Rosita has launched an official website under her real name at TheaTrinidad.com. The website has features on the TNA Knockout outside the ring.

— Velvet Sky and Angelina Love have been added to The Big Event, which takes place November 12 at the Courtyard Marriott LaGuardia Airport 9010 Ditmars Blvd East Elmhurst, New York. Visit www.sportsfanpromotions.com for more information.

TNA Impact Does Great Rating – Bischoff Comments

Last week’s post-Bound For Glory edition of TNA Impact Wrestling (10/20) did a 1.35 cable rating with 2,019,000 viewers.

That show, headlined by James Storm defeating Kurt Angle to capture the TNA World title, was the second most-watched episode of Impact this year (the after Sting’s return earlier this year).

TNA executive Eric Bischoff wrote the following Twitter regarding wrestling sites not covering the ratings news:

“Ever notice how the shows that the dirt sites put over get the lowest ratings and the ones they bury get the highest? hmmmm.”

Melina Asked If She Has Plans To Join TNA – See Her Response

Melina, who has remained mum on the subject of TNA Wrestling since parting ways with WWE in August, was asked at the pre-launch party for Saints Row: The Third if she has plans to join the promotion (video available here).

She discreetly replied, “Oh, I’m still… still deciding.”

Melina was also asked if she’ll be appearing on Dancing with the Stars. She said “you never know” and explained, “I’d love to do any opportunity that presents itself, I would love to do that. I’m also interested in like Cirque du Soleil too, so I’m kind of like, you know, the sky’s the limit right now! There’s so many opportunities and it’s just (laughs) overwhelming!”

Melina stated in a 2007 interview with The Sun that she watches TNA.

“I still watch all the wrestling I can – whether it’s TNA, Japanese or Lucha Libre – because that’s my art,” she said.

The day after WWE announced they had come to terms on the release of Melina, and Gail Kim revealed on Twitter that she had quit the promotion, Mickie James was asked during an interview promoting Hardcore Justice about the possibility of her former Diva colleagues coming to TNA.

“I’d love to work with Gail,” James said. “I didn’t really get a chance to work with her. We had, like, maybe one or two matches but we were always on the side usually, so that would be really exciting. I was kinda looking forward to doing more with her and I didn’t get a chance.”

James, however, avoided mentioning Melina.

Knockout Looking To Make A Change, Hogan Launches Website

ODB has also repeatedly stated in recent weeks that she’s trying her best to lose excess weight.
