Eric Bischoff Rants About Internet Fans Again

TNA executive Eric Bischoff went on another rant against the Internet Wrestling Community (IWC) on Wednesday night.

Bischoff tweeting the following in response to the “IWC smarks” who follow pro wrestling online and are outspoken about TNA’s product:

“Seems like 90% of the audience loves what the loudest 10% hates. So who really matters? The 10%er’s can’t get over the fact that they are irrelevant. Ratings don’t lie. Research doesn’t lie. IWC smarks need to get over it.”

Comment below and tell us what you think about Bischoff’s position. What do you think about Bischoff calling 10% of his audience “irrelevant” .. He points at TNA’s ratings as an example of why fans who criticize TNA on the Internet are wrong – when Impact’s rating hasn’t moved out of the 1.1 range in the past 5 years despite millions of dollars spent on marketing and expensive talent.

Hogan Bashes Warrior Again, Dreamer No-Shows Impact, Darsow

– Hulk Hogan’s ongoing beef with the Ultimate Warrior continues. To recap, Hulk Hogan buried Warrior during his recent interview on HDNet’s “The Voice vs.” show, saying Warrior was one of the many guys who was given the ‘magic bullet’ to kill Hulkamania, but was unable to.

Warrior fired back at Hogan with a scathing video of his own, saying he found that magic bullet and is going to post a video soon exposing Hulk Hogan for the man he truly is.

Hogan has since responded to Warrior’s video, writing the following on Twitter:

“that what he’s programed for, some people love, help, laugh, create, have fun, he hates.warrior who? HH”

– Hulk Hogan also commented on the recent backlash against his friend Brian Knobs, who upset a lot of people by mocking Randy Savage at a wrestling convention on the day of his death. Hogan defended Knobs by saying:

“that’s what’s so crazy they are way cool, Knobs always jokes around though, maby somebody took Knobs joking and is trying to bury him H”

– Dakota Darsow, son of Barry Darsow (Demolition Smash, Repo Man), wrestled a dark match prior to Tuesday’s TNA Impact Wrestling taping from Orlando. Darsow, a former WWE developmental talent, lost to Texas wrestler Jesse Sorensen.

– Conspicuous by his absence at Tuesday’s TNA Impact Wrestling taping was Tommy Dreamer.

Dreamer, who just turned heel and is in the midst of a feud with Fortune, was scheduled to attend the tapings. No word yet as to why he wasn’t there, but his absence was a hot topic of discussion backstage on Tuesday, according to a report on pwinsider.com.

TNA Star Sidelined Until 2012, Foley Apologizes For Recent Jab

— Chris Sabin will be sidelined until 2012 after tearing both the ACL and MCL in his knee during a match last month on iMPACT!. He underwent surgery on his injured knee earlier this month.

Sabin suffered the injury during a match against Anarquia at the April 20 iMPACT! taping. He went for a springboard clothesline and tweaked his knee when the Mexican America member was out-of-position to receive the maneuver. The referee was instructed to end the match when it appeared Sabin was injured.

— Mick Foley apologized for his recent remark poking fun at TNA house show attendance.

He wrote on Twitter, “You know, in retrospect, I probably shoudn’t have compared an empty arena match to an Impact house show. Funny..but disrespectful.”

During WWE’s Over the Limit pay-per-view, Foley responded to Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson touting his victory over the Hardcore Legend in an “I Quit” Match in 1999 by saying he later beat him in an “Empty Arena Match aka TNA house show.”

Fan Ejected From Impact Taping For Texting Spoiler Results

A man was ejected from Monday’s Impact Wrestling taping in Orlando, Florida for texting spoilers results with his mobile device.

The man was ejected from the Impact! Wrestling Zone by TNA personnel and escorted off Universal Studios Florida property by an Orlando area police officer. He was shown a page on the PWInsider website displaying the spoilers results he had sent on a mobile device owned by a member of TNA security and informed he was being removed from the premises.

It was reported last week that TNA banned the use of cellular phones and mobile devices at the Impact! Wrestling Zone during Impact Wrestling tapings in order to prevent spoilers from surfacing online. Sources within TNA indicate that Universal Studios officials issued the directive, not TNA.

TNA Reportedly Uses Cover Excuse For Terry Taylor’s Departure

TNA Wrestling’s announcement on May 23 that Terry Taylor, Director of Talent Relations, made the decision to leave the organization, is reportedly a cover excuse.

The latest issue of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter reports that Taylor was fired by the organization on May 20. It is believed that he was let go due to allegations made against him in a lawsuit filed by a former performer.

The report adds that it may not necessarily be Shannon Spruill’s (a/k/a Daffney) lawsuit against the organization, although his name was implicated.

Taylor and creative writer Vince Russo pressured Daffney into performing a spot at the October 18, 2009 pay-per-view event Bound for Glory in which she would go through a board covered with barbed wire, reasoning that it was important for the ongoing feud between Abyss and Mick Foley. Daffney, who was hesitant on the idea, was assured that she would be fine and taken care of. She agreed to perform the spot, which resulted in her being chokeslammed from the ring apron by Abyss onto a board covered with barbed wire. She suffered a concussion taking the maneuver and was taken to an Orlando area hospital via ambulance. Furthermore, Spike TV wouldn’t allow TNA to air the spot during iMPACT! due to their policy on men-on-women violence.

Daffney’s trip to the emergency room resulted in a substantial medical bill, which Taylor stalled TNA from paying and ultimately was not. The lawsuit also claims she was pressured to continue performing after suffering two additional concussions. She suffered a concussion after being hit on the head with a toolbox by Tara following their match on the February 18, 2010 episode of iMPACT!. On April 20, 2010, she was injured in a dark match against an obese green worker by the name of Miss Betsy and was taken to an Orlando area hospital, where she was diagnosed with a concussion, as well as a deeply bruised sternum and a severe stinger.

Chief Financial Officer Dean Broadhead will oversee contractual matters while former WWE executive Bruce Prichard will handle Taylor’s remaining duties.

Hide Your Shirts, Hulkamaniacs! Majesco Entertainment Climbs Into the Ring With ‘Hulk Hogan’s Main Event’ on KinectTM for XBOX 360®

Hulkify Your Living Room as the World’s Most Famous Professional Wrestler Puts the Kapow! in Your Kinect

EDISON, NJ–(Marketwire – May 27, 2011) – Wrestling icon, IMPACT WRESTLING Superstar, and global sensation Hulk Hogan and Majesco Entertainment Company (NASDAQ: COOL), an innovative provider of video games for the mass market, announced today a strategic partnership to develop Hulk Hogan’s Main Event, exclusively on Kinect™ for Xbox 360® for an expected release this fall. Developed by Panic Button LLC, Hulk Hogan’s Main Event is the first performance-based wrestling game on Kinect for Xbox 360 that lets players train with mentor Hulk Hogan as they build their own wrestling personalities and learn the art of showmanship to win over the crowd.

“Hulk Hogan is much more than a wrestling star; he’s a sports entertainment icon with a huge personality, a massive following on Spike’s IMPACT WRESTLING, and immediate recognition across generations of fans,” said Jesse Sutton, CEO Majesco Entertainment. “Partnering with the Hulkster for Hulk Hogan’s Main Event is a dream come true and we’re looking forward to releasing a no holds barred motion-based experience that offers a full suite of over-the-top moves.”

“Listen up, people! You will feel the power of Hulkamania when you step into this game,” said Hulk Hogan. “Whether you are taking the damage or selling the pain, this game will let you unleash your inner wrestler as you hype up the crowd while putting the hurt on anyone that stands in your way!”

Hulk Hogan’s longtime marketing agent, Darren Prince, CEO of Prince Marketing Group, said, “When we started discussions with Majesco on the format of this game we knew it was a perfect fit for Hulk’s global brand.”

In Hulk Hogan’s Main Event, players will learn the ropes from the man himself as Hulk Hogan schools them on delivering the best show for the crowd by emulating famous Hulk poses and performing more than 30 punishing combos. The Kinect sensor tracks players’ every move; the more dynamic the motion, the more high impact the wrestler’s performance is. Players will create their own unique wrestler personality through a robust create-a-wrestler feature including many choices for face, hair, tattoos, outfit, ethnicity, body type, and entrance music. Perform in nine different venues including the backyard brawl, local gym and giant stadium in front of a massive audience. Enter tournament mode for two player tag-team and take turns delivering extreme moves. Best of all, players can wield a variety of damaging objects including metal chairs and ladders to deliver bone-jarring hits to their opponents.

Developed by Panic Button LLC, Hulk Hogan’s Main Event is expected to launch on Kinect for Xbox 360 this fall. Hulk Hogan will be making an appearance at E3 on Tuesday, 6/7/11, courtesy of IMPACT WRESTLING. For additional information, please register at www.HulkHogansMainEvent.com.

Reid Flair Says He Wants To Work For WWE Over TNA

Ric Flair’s son Reid Flair appeared on the Hit the Ropes radio show on Wednesday and spoke about the possibility of following in his father’s footsteps and becoming a pro wrestler.

Check Out: Reid Flair’s Mugshot Pictures

Despite the fact that Reid’s father works for TNA, the second generation wrestler’s ultimate goal is to make it to what he calls “the big time” – WWE.

“No, I have not ruled out TNA. I respect the guys that are there. I respect the people in management and stuff like that. My dream since I was five years old was to work for the WWE and that’s my goal.”

Reid acknowledges that working for TNA has its benefits, but his perception of the company is similar to the reputation that TNA has earned in recent years – which is that TNA is where “established” wrestlers go after they’ve been in WWE.

“I think for people who are already established as stars, TNA is a great place to go. But me being a young kid and stuff like that, not having established myself, I think that sometimes the younger guys may be misrepresented and stuff in TNA. And I’m not saying anything malicious about TNA, WWE is just where I want to be. That’s my goal. WWE is the big time and I want to be with the best.”

Beer Money Storyline Plans, Abyss Makes History & More

– Following Immortal’s attack on Robert Rude last week on Impact Wrestling, TNA will be running a storyline where James Storm will have to find a new tag team partner for Beer Money’s tag title defense at Slammiversary against opponents who have yet to be named.

– By winning the X-Division championship last week on Impact Wrestling, Abyss became only the second Grand Slam Champion (he’s held the TNA World, Tag Team, X Division and Television Titles) in company history. The only other man to accomplish this feat is AJ Styles.

– Employees at Universal Studios, home of TNA’s Impact Zone, are cracking down on the usage of cellphones at TNA television tapings.

Universal has been threatening fans in recent weeks that they will be kicked out of the building if they are suspected of texting spoilers to websites.

The new policy is said to be mandated by Universal Studios, not TNA.

Eric Bischoff Talks Savage, Changes In TNA, ROH & More

TNA’s Eric Bischoff was one of the featured guests on this week’s live edition of the award-winning Monday Night Mayhem

During the interview, bischoff talked about: Whether Or Not He Sees Ring Of Honor As Direct Competition To TNA After The Acquisition Of ROH By Sinclair Broadcasting, The Chances Of Seeing Him Take On Increased Duties Within TNA After The Departure Of Terry Taylor, What He Currently Sees In The X-Division That Should Give Fans Hope For The Future Of The Division, The Development Of Karen Jarrett’s On-Air Persona (And If It’s Too Early To Start Comparing Her To Vickie Guerrero), Chyna’s Return To The Ring, Plus Much More In The Return Of “The Hot Seat With Eric Bischoff” (Flavored By Sizzlin Sauces).

You can listen to an MP3 of the entire interview by clicking here.

Interview highlights courtesy of Paterson, MNM’s associate producer & official correspondent:

His reaction to the passing of Randy Savage & how he will remember “The Macho Man”: “It hit me pretty hard, and it’s still hitting me now. He was a very private individual and kind of kept to himself, and I respected that. As more information comes out the more I see it, it still shocks me, and it’s hard to believe that Randy is not with us.”

The transition from iMPACT into iMPACT Wrestling & why he believes now is the perfect time to make changes to the television program itself: “Last week, a lot of the changes you saw were cosmetic. Graphics, lighting, staging, and that sort of thing, which was part of the plan. I think anyone who had any expectations that all of sudden iMPACT Wrestling was going to be a completely different show, probably had misaligned expectations. We are going to try & improve the show in many different ways in what you are going to see throughout the summer and going into the fall. It’s a great time of year to experiment with format and experiment with different elements of the show. You’ll see those changes. Some will noticeable, and others won’t be.”

Whether or not he sees Ring of Honor as more of a direct competition to TNA, after the acquisition of ROH by Sinclair Broadcasting: “I know I am going to get a lot of heat for what I’m about to tell you, and I’ve got nothing against anybody at Ring of Honor. In fact I wish them all the best. I’m reading a lot of stuff people are writing, and I think they are kidding themselves. Sinclair is 22 television stations, however many it is, that has a 22% market penetration in the United States. 22% market penetration in the United States means you don’t exist from an advertisers point of view. 22% means Nielsen doesn’t even track you as a network, and that’s assuming they get distribution on all 22 of those stations, which isn’t guaranteed. So while I think it’s a great thing for ROH because at least they have something, I think the enthusiasm of the fact that it’s a network, people are getting excited over a lot of nothing.”

If he has ever been a fan of short title reigns (coming off the fan fallout after Christian losing the World Heavyweight Championship to Randy Orton, just days after winning the title): “It all goes back to story. What’s the circumstances? What’s the context? Where’s it going? There’s not a simple formula to answer that question. Generally speaking, short title reigns tend to be risky, because your audience never really has a chance to grasp it and to get embedded into it one way or the other.”

TNA Star Takes Up Smoking To Lose Weight, More On Dreamer

— Tammy Sytch stated on her Facebook account Tuesday that a performer for TNA Wrestling recently took up smoking due to pressure from management to lose weight.

She wrote, “A TNA performer started the unhealthy habit of smoking, under pressure from management to lose weight… great business practices by TNA!!! Good job! I smell lawsuit!”

Sytch added further: “It’s not a story…it was something directly told to me from this person…and no, I’m not giving up any names.”

— Regarding the report of Tommy Dreamer’s contract with TNA Wrestling expiring next month, it is true. He reveals in a newly published interview with The Wrestler that TNA wanted him to sign two-year deal last year, but he only wanted it to be for one year. He also said he’s “happy” with TNA.

Dreamer debuted on June 13, 2010 at Slammiversary.

Dreamer’s Contract Expiring, Match Preview For Tonight’s Impact

— Tommy Dreamer’s contract with TNA Wrestling expires in approximately one month.

— Kurt Angle vs. Rob Van Dam is advertised for tonight’s episode of IMPACT WRESTLING. Other matches taped last week for the show include:

Rhodes Explains How Savage Walked Away From Wrestling

Dave Meltzer of Yahoo! Sports has an article chronicling Randy Savage’s extraordinary wrestling career and it features behind-the-scenes details on how it came to an end.

Savage briefly appeared for TNA Wrestling in late 2004 to feud with Jeff Jarrett. At the December pay-per-view, Turning Point, he was scheduled to partner with Jeff Hardy and AJ Styles in a tag team match against The Kings of Wrestling—Jarrett, Kevin Nash and Scott Hall. Savage, who hadn’t wrestled in over four years, flaked out of the match mere minutes before the pay-per-view was to go live.

WWE Hall of Famer Dusty Rhodes, who was TNA’s head booker at the time, recalled the tumultuous ordeal backstage in a quote for the article.

“The last words he said to me, five minutes before the PPV, was, ‘I can’t do this. I don’t want people to see me looking like this,'” Rhodes remembered. “Jerry [Jarrett, a TNA company co-owner] called [event producer] Keith Mitchell in, and I said, ‘Change the main event. I said to him, ‘Randy, just go home. It’s okay with me.’ That’s the last words he said to me.”

To explain the wrestling legend’s absence from the match, an angle was hastily scripted for The Kings of Wrestling to attack Savage and stuff him into the trunk of a limo, which spend off out of the arena’s parking lot. Without Savage, Styles and Hardy had to work the match by themselves. Savage ultimately appeared, albeit briefly.

After several minutes of Hardy and Styles fighting off The Kings of Wrestling, Savage, wearing a long black shirt to hide his shrunken physique, returned to the Impact! Zone and walked down to the ring. He was tagged in by Hardy moments later and pinned Jarrett after a punch to the jaw.

Savage bolted from the promotion days later at an iMPACT! taping due to a disagreement over the finish of his match at the next scheduled pay-per-view, Final Resolution. He had requested that he win the NWA World Heavyweight Championship from Jeff Jarrett at the event, but was denied. He never wrestled again.

Rhodes, who lived a 20-minute drive from Savage, never saw him again following Turning Point. He compared Savage of the last five years of his life to the reclusive lifestyle of Howard Hughes.

“I could see it in his eyes … he just didn’t want to do it,” said Rhodes. “Obviously, he was financially set. Out of all of us from that era, [Ric] Flair, Hogan, Andre, myself, how many of us walked away. One.”

Jeff Jarrett Remembers Savage’s Beef With Vince, Influence

Randy Savage’s Influence on Wrestling:

“There were several different sides to Randy. Personal, professionally, inside the ring, outside the ring…..Randy was, in my opinion, if you want to talk about just the persona of ‘Macho Man’ Randy Savage, and I said this the other day. There’s three things that go into making a great performer, you gotta have your in ring ability, your verbal skills, and the it factor, and on a scale of 1-10, I think Randy was a 10 out of 10 on all of them.

“His body of work throughout his career to me really holds up and obviously the WrestleMania match, WrestleMania III… when you have a match that can still stand the test of time, that speaks volumes. Like in the music industry, sometimes there are classics that go on and on forever. To me, Randy had many of those with Steamboat. He had a great series of matches with Ultimate Warrior. I think the best match Ultimate Warrior ever had was with Randy. So as far a performer, you can’t say enough good things.”

Randy Savage’s Days In WCW:

“His notoriety far outreached the wrestling industry. For Randy to have the corporate clout so to speak to take the Slim Jim account from one organization to another, sort of speaks volumes about the brand that Macho Man became. When he went from WWF to WCW, that was huge. I believe you put Hulk (Hogan), (Ric) Flair, and Savage, I’m sure everything is debatable on the most famous wrestlers of all time but Randy is in the argument without a doubt.”

George “The Animal” Steel’s Comments That Vince McMahon Was Heartbroken When Savage Left WWE In 1994:

“I think it was a shock, and George probably knew more of the details at the time, but Randy was… if you really think about WrestleMania, and entrenching it in I guess the fabric of pop culture, look at the roles Macho Man played in the first ten. That sort of speaks for itself.

One of his meetings included an encounter with Bill Goldberg.

The former WCW World Heavyweight Champion posted a video on his Twitter account this morning of himself and Bischoff flying above New York City in a helicopter.

He added, “The last tweet was a sign of the end of the world….”
