TNA Brass Hopeful For “They” Storyline, Nash Blows Off Carter

— Former TNA Wrestling production manager Randy Ricci noted on his blog that a ‘reliable source’ informed him that top brass such as Dixie Carter, Vince Russo and Eric Bischoff are very hopeful that the “They” storyline “saves the company.”

Ricci adds that the storyline is being built off Karen and Jeff Jarrett’s ‘real live heat’ with Kurt Angle and that any employee against the angle is considered to be working against the company and thus may be terminated.

— Sting, who is rumored to be returning to TNA Wrestling, is not scheduled for this week’s iMPACT tapings.

Carter discovered Nash bolting for WWE when the news broke online.

Nash & Booker T In WWE Causes Major Problems For TNA

At Sunday’s Royal Rumble pay-per-view, former TNA stars Kevin Nash and Booker T made surprise appearances that have caused major rewrites to TNA’s “they” storyline.

It’s been widely speculated that TNA’s recent “they are coming” storyline would culminate in the return of the Main Event Mafia. With Kevin Nash and Booker T being two of the key members of the Mafia, major changes had to be made to the storyline.

A TNA source said, “Big time rewrite mode this week due to their dumb asses writing a plot around guys who are not under contract.”

Before he opted to appear at the Royal Rumble PPV, Kevin Nash had been pencilled in as part of the angle. There was also speculating regarding Booker T because of his past connections to the group, but he had not yet been contacted about participating.

CHAD OCHOCINCO VS. HEAD COACH MARVIN LEWIS IN A STEEL CAGE MATCH?

Total Nonstop Action (TNA) Wrestling offers to host the bout at the “Lockdown” Pay-Per-View event on Sunday, April 17

As the NFL’s Super Bowl draws near, one of the year’s major football news stories has been the ongoing rivalry between Cincinnati Bengals wide receiver Chad Ochocinco and his head coach, Marvin Lewis.

The ill-will between the head coach and his star player has reportedly been an ongoing issue, and now Ochocinco has challenged Lewis to put an end to their differences once and for all – not on the gridiron field of the NFL, but inside a steel cage!

On Monday, Ochocinco posted the following message to his Twitter account (twitter.com/ochocinco), responding to Adam Schefter of ESPN: “Me and Marvin Lewis in a cage match, set it up, I’ve earned my stripes on my helmet it’s time to fight then play”

As a result, Total Nonstop Action (TNA) Wrestling has offered to host Ochocinco vs. Lewis inside a Steel Cage at their annual “Lockdown” event on April 17, which will air live on Pay-Per-View!

Ric Flair Expected To Continue On TNA’s UK Tour

As previously reported, Ric Flair had a major falling out with TNA management while on tour with the company overseas. While in Dublin, Ireland, Flair reportedly demanded a money advance from a company official. When his request wasn’t granted, Flair allegedly tried to play hardball, refusing to get on a bus that was taking personnel to the airport for their flight. A decision was made to leave Flair behind.

It’s worth noting that there was no official decision to send him home, but the company chose to move on as scheduled and could not hold up the entire roster due to Flair’s tantrum.

To update this situation, it’s said that the tension between Ric Flair and TNA had been building up for weeks, although nobody could point to the exact reasons why.

TNA and Flair have apparently worked things out as he is expected to be at TNA’s live event in Scotland tomorrow.

Flair is one of the top attractions of the tour, which has been dubbed the “Maximum Wooo!” Tour.

Ric Flair Pulls Out Of TNA’s European Tour Following Dispute

Ric Flair has pulled out of the remaining dates of TNA Wrestling’s ongoing European tour.

While in Dublin, Ireland, Flair reportedly demanded money “in advance” from a company official. When his request wasn’t granted, Flair allegedly tried to play hardball, refusing to get on a bus that was taking personnel to the airport for their flight. A decision was made to leave Flair behind due to this.

“He threw a fit,” said a company source, who spoke under the condition of anonymity. “He was playing ‘Nature Boy’ on the tour and got pissed off and threw a tantrum. As far as we all know, he’s in Dublin still. He said he wasn’t coming and he wasn’t in Berlin.”

There were members of the TNA roster in favor of leaving Flair behind due to his outburst. Some even mocked him, using his “signature promo lines” after he was left behind.

There was much discussion on whether Flair’s “partying” on the road during the tour factored into his refusal to board the bus.

To clarify, Flair was not sent home from the tour by management. It’s been indicated that Flair is still in Europe and could reach the troupe in Scotland, if he chooses.

There was no official decision to send him home, just to leave him behind as opposed to holding up an entire talent roster waiting to travel internationally.

Flair was one of the top attractions of the tour, which was named the “Maximum Wooo!” Tour. He accompanied Beer Money, Inc. for TNA Tag Team Championship Matches at prior events in France and Ireland.

TNA Resolves UK TV Situation, Programming To Air On Freeview

TNA Wrestling President Dixie Carter announced Tuesday that all TNA programming in the U.K. will air on Sky TV channel Challenge beginning next month.

Challenge TV will broadcast iMPACT! each week, as well as Xplosion and monthly pay-per-view events.

TNA’s television situation in the U.K. had been limbo since January 1 when its former home, Bravo, was shut down.

Challenge TV generally airs game show programs, but is available to Sky, Virgin, and Freeview systems. By getting on Freeview, TNA programming will eventually be available to every television in the United Kingdom (once the UK Digital Switchover is completed in 2012).

At yesterday’s live event in Dublin, Ireland, Carter informed the live audience that TNA signed a new television distribution agreement in the U.K.

Wrestler Criticizes Matt Hardy, Creative Not Worried About Jeff

— While Matt Hardy has accused “dirt sheet” reporters of having an agenda for critically panning his TNA Wrestling debut against Rob Van Dam at Genesis, none of his new co-workers have defended the match.

“He’s so bloated he can’t even move,” observed one TNA wrestler.

The wrestler also questioned what Hardy brings to the company at this point. He pointed out that his brother has surpassed him in verbal ability not to mention that he’s a better heel.

— The TNA Wrestling creative team are under the impression that there is “nothing to worry about” in regards to Jeff Hardy’s current legal matter.

Hulk Hogan Invites NFL Star To Wrestle, Jeff Hardy Loses Bag

— The TNA crew has arrived overseas of the company’s UK tour and and Jeff Hardy’s trip is already off to a rough start. Hardy tweeted that his bag has been lost.

— ESPN.com has posted an interview with TNA star Hulk Hogan, who talked about the viral video of New York Jets linebacker Bart Scott cutting a wrestling promo after Sunday’s win over the New England Patriots. Hogan, a childhood hero of Bart Scott, said the NFL star’s post-game interview was clearly inspired by wrestling interviews.

“It was like one of my mid-’80s promos, and all that was missing were a few ‘What are you gonna dos?’ and some lightning bolts in there. It was right on the money. I think it’s cool that [Scott] is stepping up and showboating it a bit, because it’s about personality and entertaining people, too.

I could tell Bart had been watching wrestling, and it’s pretty cool because a lot of these guys are afraid to step outside the box. … Sometimes when you say stuff you believe it and it happens.”

When asked whether Scott could have a future in pro wrestling once his professional football days are over, Hogan said:

“Oh yeah. When his career’s over and he wants to make some real money, tell him to give me a call and we’ll break him in the right way.”

Here’s the video of Bart Scott’s promo:

Taz Talks About iMPACT! On The Road, TNA vs. WWE & More

TNA color commentator & former ECW World Champion Taz was one of the featured guests on this week’s live edition (01/17/11) of the award-winning Monday Night Mayhem.

Taz Discusses The Launch Of His New Dojo (The Team Taz Finishing Camp), His Response To Those That Feel His New Venture Is Direct Competition To Florida Championship Wrestling/The WWE’s Developmental System, TNA’s Decision To Take iMPACT On The Road Beginning Next Month, The Importance of Taking The Televised TNA Product On The Road, What TNA Hoped For When Putting iMPACT On Monday Nights Last Year/What The Company Learned From The Experiment, The Professional Differences Between The WWE & TNA, What He Would Do To Differentiate TNA From The WWE Even More, Why Ring Of Honor Losing Their HDNet Television Show Is Bad For The Business, & The Real Story Behind The History-Making Night When He Captured The ECW World Heavyweight Championship From Mike Awesome While Under WWE Contract

You can listen to an MP3 of Taz on Monday Night Mayhem by clicking here.

Interview highlights courtesy of The Mayhem’s official correspondent, Paterson from New Jersey:

The launch of his new dojo (The Team Taz Finishing Camp), what his time in the industry has taught him leading: into the launch of his newest venture, & what students can expect if trained by Taz: “The Team Taz Dojo basically encompasses everything I’ve done in my career (from ECW, to WWE, to currently TNA), because I’ve been fortunate enough to feel that I’ve learned so much about this industry about what a performer needs to do and not do in front of the curtain and behind the curtain. I’ve done a lot of the right things business wise, and I’ve done some bad things business wise, so that helps me become a better instructor to help the new generation of wrestler. The deal with my dojo is you’re dealing directly with me. This is not ‘the blind leading the blind,’ or ‘this is one of Taz’s guys…he worked out with him.’ I’m the guy that’s gonna sit there with you and break down your matches with you.”

Why he believes that TNA’s decision to take impact on the road to Fayetteville, NC for an upcoming set of television tapings next month is “well overdue” & the importance of taking the televised TNA product on the road: “I think us going to do TV on the road is something that’s well overdue. Even well before I was a member of TNA, I really think this was something that TNA should have done. It’s a lot harder to pull this off than people know. We are going to shoot TV on the road. It’s not a cheap thing, but I think Dixie (Carter) realizes that it’s something that needs to be done. They are very nice people in The iMPACT Zone, the people that come to the show, but it’s a completely different feel than when you go to a TNA live event and then you watch the audience or hear the audience on television. It’s a completely different feel. The people in The iMPACT Zone, and no knock on them, they’ve seen a lot. We put out a lot out in front of them. They get a little spoiled, and that’s only normal I think.”

What he feels are the biggest professional differences between TNA & the WWE: “It’s a different world in TNA. WWE has been around for over 50 years, so it’s like how do you prepare a company that’s been in business for 8 1/2 half years like TNA has? I knew that coming in that it was a smaller company when it comes to that, obviously since it’s a younger company. The only thing that I see that we could get better at is the amount of man power we have, and that’s just needing more bodies behind the scenes to do more things. But that comes in time.”

More is contained in Taz’s exclusive interview, including his candid thoughts & comments on the recent controversy that has stirred up online between those believing that Taz’s dojo is direct competition vs. the WWE’s forthcoming “Tough Enough” program & FCW, what TNA hoped for when putting iMPACT on Monday nights last year vs. the WWE & what the company learned from the experiment, what he would do to differentiate TNA from the WWE even more, which talents in TNA have asked him for guidance since he came into the fold, why Ring of Honor losing their HDNet television show is bad for the business, what he sees from the younger generation of wrestlers today & what they may lack, the real story behind the history-making night that took place when Taz (while performing under WWE contract) won the ECW World Heavyweight Championship from the late Mike Awesome (while performing under a WCW contract) with MNM’s very own Jim Molineaux calling it down the middle, plus so much more! Follow Taz right now on Twitter (at www.Twitter.com/OfficialTaz), and be sure to log on to www.TeamTaz13.com to find out the complete details on how you can register to be trained by “The Human Suplex Machine” at the Team Taz Finishing Camp.

Jeff Hardy Court Hearing Result, Nash Returning To TNA

— Jeff Hardy’s court hearing today in Moore County Superior Court in Carthage, North Carolina resulted in another continuance, reports the Southern Pines Pilot. Warren McSweeney, the Assistant District Attorney, requested more time to review the case. Hardy’s next scheduled hearing is Feb. 16. The TNA star did not attend the hearing.

Hardy was expected to take a plea bargain today on charges stemming from his 2009 arrest on drug charges. The plea agreement would have been subject to the judge’s approval.

— Kevin Nash stated during an interview with La Nación in Puerto Rico that he is presently negotiating with TNA Wrestling regarding a return to the organization.

Sources close to both sides indicate he has negotiated on and off with the company since his contract expired last October. It was recently reported that he agreed to a deal, but stated that someone in the office said he would be returning before a deal could be reached.

*Spoiler* On TNA’s “They” Storyline – Several Returns Expected

Last Thursday on TNA iMPACT!, Amazing Red’s “little” brother (officially known as “Crimson”) put Abyss in a chokehold backstage and delivered a cryptic message to him: “They are coming.”

“They” will mark the return of the Main Event Mafia and will consist of Kurt Angle and Scott Steiner, and possibly Sting, Kevin Nash and Booker T.

Steiner returned to TNA at last Wednesday’s iMPACT! taping and participated in a cliff hanger ending. He donned a suit reminiscent of his time in the Main Event Mafia. Angle is penciled in for the group, and many within the organization expect Sting to be too.

Many in TNA presume that Nash is on board for the group. However, he adamantly said last week on Twitter that he is not because he is retired. Internally, many believe Nash is kayfabing his absence from TNA, but those close to him indicate he’s legitimately retired.

Booker T’s status remains unknown at this point, other than he wasn’t believed to have signed as of last week. Some were pleased with his departure from the organization in October 2009 as there were complaints about his performance, attitude, refusal to put over Matt Morgan in a match, and his own admission that he was using the company as a way to audition for acting roles.

Bobby Lashley has been mentioned by those in TNA as a possible member of the group. However, those affiliated with the mixed martial artist don’t believe he’s returning to the wrestling organization. Lashley is currently a free agent as his contract with Strikeforce expired following his loss to Chad Griggs in August. The only thing of note he has done since then is work a wrestling match for the Japanese promotion Inoki Genome Federation (IGF) in September. He is not tentatively not scheduled for any upcoming shows.

“They” would initially feud with Immortal and Fortune. The angle begins on the Feb. 3 iMPACT!.

— Creative plans are in place for Matt Hardy to perform as the “cold blooded” alter-ego he introduced a few months ago on Twitter. He will be referred to as “Cold Blood” Matt Hardy. He said this week on Twitter that the persona is returning soon.

The organization recently applied a wrestling-related trademark to the term “Cold Blood.”

— Friday’s TNA Wrestling live event in Reading, PA, drew approximately 1,000 fans. Saturday’s show in Upper Marlboro, MD, drew 688 fans. Sunday in Hagerstown, MD, drew a sellout crowd of 1,350 fans, the first legitimate sellout for a TNA live event in a while.

— TNA Wrestling officials are still negotiating with Asistencia Asesoría y Administración (AAA) regarding utilizing Zorro. A deal is expected to be reached and that he’ll perform under a different name.

Sarita Inks Contract Extension, Bully Ray In Line For Lengthy Run

— Sarita has signed a two-year contract extension with TNA Wrestling.

The Canadian women’s wrestler has been featured more prominently on TNA Wrestling programming in recent months, scoring victories over many of her peers in the Knockouts Division including Angelina Love, Madison Rayne and Velvet Sky. She recently, albeit unofficially, aligned herself with TNA Women’s Knockouts Champion Madison Rayne and Tara while becoming embroiled in a heated feud with Velvet Sky.

Sarita, who’s real name is Sarah Stock, initially signed a contract with TNA Wrestling in 2009 and vignettes hyping her debut began airing in June of that year. Success came early as alongside Taylor Wilde, the duo became the inaugural Knockout Tag Team Champions in September. The tandem dropped the belts on the January 4, 2010 edition of iMPACT! and were scarcely featured in the ensuing months. Sarita turned heel on Wilde in June and subsequently received a push of sorts on Xplosion. She resurfaced on iMPACT! in October and has since accumulated a number of wins.

Sarita also competes for Consejo Mundial de Lucha Libre (CMLL) in Mexico, under the ring name Dark Angel.

— Current creative plans call for the former Brother Ray to get a ‘long singles run’ as Bully Ray, a character he always wanted to portray. His former tag team partner, Devon, will also continued to be used as a singles wrestler.

— Christy Hemme has opened a new account on Twitter. She says she lost the password to her first one.

Nash Reportedly Returning To TNA, Kong No Longer Awesome

— According to SLAM! Wrestling, “Kevin Nash is expected to return to (TNA Wrestling).” He is still listed on TNAWrestling.com’s roster section after his contract with the organization expired in October.

— Former TNA Wrestling performer Kia Stevens’ attempt to trademark the term Awesome Kong was officially dropped on December 3, 2010. TNA Wrestling had opposed Stevens’ attempts to trademark the ring name, stating that she never owned it. Stevens performed under the alias Amazing Kong prior to joining the organization in October 2007, so ownership would likely fall under their auspices. The organization also claimed that Stevens used fraud and misrepresented herself when she applied for ownership of the name. She never responded to their claims and thus lost her bid to trademark the name. TNA Wrestling warned Stevens in October that if she didn’t respond by December 3, 2010, she would lose her bid to trademark it. She didn’t respond by the deadline and is now officially prohibited from using the name.

— The Motor City Machine Guns are featured on the cover of the latest issue of The Wrestler. They are pictured holding the TNA World Tag Team Championship, which they dropped to Beer Money, Inc. at Genesis.

Jeff Hardy To Get “Cold Blooded”, Hulk Hogan’s Home For Sale

— TNA Wrestling recently applied a wrestling-related trademark to the term “Cold Blood.” It will apparently involve Jeff Hardy, as he wrote last night on Twitter: “ItWillBeHeard…..ColdBlooded!!!!!!”

— Hulk Hogan’s French country style manor home in Clearwater, Florida, which was prominently featured on Hogan Knows Best, is once again for sale. The five-bedroom home was listed at $25 million in 2006 and went back on the market in 2009 for $13.9 million when he was getting a divorce. It is now listed at $10.9 million.

The listing, which features images of the estate, is available here.

TNA Star Breaks Collarbone, Backstage Snickering Over Hardy

— Motor City Machine Gun member Alex Shelley reportedly suffered a broken collarbone at yesterday’s TNA Wrestling live event in Hagerstown, Maryland.

— Some in the TNA Wrestling locker room instantly began snickering over Matt Hardy upon his debut last week at Genesis. One wrestler felt that Hardy looked out of shape and compared his modified appearance to Raven’s. Wrestlers were also chatting about his state of mind throughout the day.

Though it was largely believed that Matt Hardy would join TNA following his departure from WWE, some within the company were surprised he was signed. Management indicated they had a full roster and weren’t looking to acquire new talent.
