Velvet Sky Announces Her Retirement From Wrestling, Going Back To School

Former TNA Knockout Velvet Sky has announced her retirement from pro wrestling. Sky (real name Jamie Szantyr) will be returning to college at Post University in Waterbury, CT in hopes of becoming a personal trainer.

In an interview with WNPR.org, Sky said, “Wrestling has a shelf life. College doesn’t. You can be 50 years old and go to college for your degree. You can’t be 50 years old and train to be a pro wrestler.”

She continued, “I’m in really, really good physical condition, still, and my health is great. And I want to keep it that way. I had a really satisfying 15-year wrestling career, so I went back to school because I got to live out my wrestling dream.”

Velvet Sky began wrestling back in 2003 and made her TNA debut back in 2007. During her 10-year run with the promotion, she won the Knockouts Championship twice.  She is currently a trainer at the Danbury, CT location of Bully Ray and D-Von’s Team 3D Academy and plans to continue training the next generation of aspiring pro wrestlers.

Congrats to Velvet Sky on a great in-ring career and this next chapter of her life.

GFW/IMPACT Wrestling to Bring 4-Part Amped Anthology Series to PPV

Major news broke last week when the merger between Global Force Wrestling (GFW) and IMPACT Wrestling was announced.

Jeff Jarrett joined Anthem Wrestling Exhibitions as a member of its board of managers, equity owner and Chief Creative Officer. Furthermore, Anthem Wrestling Exhibitions acquired the GFW Amped Anthology catalog.

Amped Anthology will air as a 4-part tournament style One Night Only Pay-Per-View series for IMPACT Wrestling, starting on August 11th.

Fans can expect a full-throttle, action-packed wrestling show from start to finish, as some of the biggest names in professional wrestling compete inside the six-sided ring from the Orleans Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas.

In ‘Part I’ we will see international stars in action like Sanada, PJ Black, Nick Aldis, Kushida, The Bollywood Boys, and Sonjay Dutt. Up and comers Kevin Kross, Kongo Kong, and Virgil Flynn also bring their unique and physical styles to the ring. Superstars on the first card include Mickie James, Bobby Roode, Brian Myers and Chris “The Adonis” Mordetzky.

Calling the action is legendary MMA fighter and podcast mogul Chael Sonnen and international ring announcer Cyrus Fees.

As co-founder of GFW, Karen Jarrett says, “We can’t wait for everyone to see the Amped Anthology Series. The names alone are worth the price of the Pay-Per-View.”

Alberto El Patron Says WWE is ‘Full Of Losers’

This past weekend (Sun. July 2, 2017) former WWE Champion Alberto El Patron (a.k.a. Alberto Del Rio) defeated Bobby Lashley to win the GFW / Impact Championship Unification match at the  Slammiversary XV pay-per-view (PPV). Following the match, El Patron decided to cut a promo on the crowd, who was chanting “you don’t deserve it.”

He started off by giving Lashley props for their match and the war they just went through, and said he’d be happy to shake his hand for every day of his life. El Patron then proceeded to put himself over by calling himself a “bad ass mother f–ker” that has wrestled everywhere around the world – “even that f–king company, WWE” which is full of losers.”

El Patron also went off on how Global Force Wrestling (GFW) is filled with ‘wrestlers’ and not ‘sports entertainers’:

“You gave me the battle of my life,” El Patron said. “And for that, and for these fans – the real fans – let’s do it again. Not for you, not for me, for the [inaudible] of pro wrestling, because we’re not f–king sports entertainers! Bobby Lashley and every single wrestler at Impact Wrestling… in this place, we are not sports entertainers, we are f–king wrestlers!”

Ex-WWE & TNA Women’s Champion Announces Retirement At GFW Taping

The big story coming out of Monday night’s GFW Impact Wrestling taping in Orlando, set to air on Thursday, is former WWE & TNA Women’s Champion Gail Kim announcing her plans to retire this year.

The ring veteran announced that 2017 will be her final year as an active wrestler, confirming rumors in recent months stemming from her lack of in-ring action this year.

Kim began her career in 2000 and joined WWE in 2002, winning the Women’s Title in her debut match. She joined TNA in 2011 and won their Women’s Title six times, along with their Women’s Tag Team Championships. She was inducted into the TNA Hall of Fame last year.

(Spoilers) GFW Impact Tapings Results: Airing 7/6 & 7/13

On Monday night, Global Force Wrestling taped this week’s episode of Impact from Orlando, Florida. Here are the results:

– A champagne bottle with glasses are in the ring; Mexican flags adorn the posts. – Matt Sydal defeated Braxton Sutter. Sutter shows signs of a heel turn post-match with Allie

– Veterans of War, Grado and Eddie Edwards defeated Eli Drake, Chris Adonis, Fallah Bahh and Mario Bokara. Grado remains in the ring. Joseph Park comes to the ring with a document in his hand telling Grado he needs to leave. Grado becomes visibly upset and asks Park to help him before they leave together. None of this was mic’d so we’re assuming there’s “employment contract” issues?

– Unified Knockouts & GFW Women’s Champion Sienna (with KM) defeated Rebel via submission

– The Super X Cup tournament starts as all 8 global challengers are announced (only 3 from Impact) with first round match-ups revealed:

* Round 1: Desmond Xavier defeated Idris Abraham

– Chris Adonis calls out Instagram bodybuilders, the “Swole Mates” – Andy Velchich and Freddy “Partyboy” Hardy – whom were planted in the audience. The three engage in a pose off. Supposedly there was to be some heated exchange that never really materialized as Eli Drake and several refs ran in to stop the non-existent altercation. The bodybuilders returned to the back never to be seen again

– Octagoncito defeated Demus 3:16 in a special attraction mini-estrella match

– Lashley defeated El Patron via DQ with the titles on the line. The LAX attacked Lashley as El Patron lay unconscious. Konnan announces El Patron as the “newest soldier” of the family. LAX carries an unconscious El Patron out of the ring

Storm goes up top, but EC3 yanks him down to the mat with the strap. EC3 grabs a pair of handcuffs from under the ring and he tries to handcuff storm to the turnbuckle. Storm was playing possum and instead Storm cuffs EC3 to the top rope. EC3 starts begging, but eventually spits in Storms face then Storm whips EC3 across the back while he’s handcuffed. Storm gets up to well over 30 lashes across EC3’s back. The ref finally unlocks the handcuffs on EC3. Storm hits the One Percenter on EC3 for a two count. EC3 rolls outside and takes the strap off his wrist, then pulls the strap and causes Storm to crash into the ring post. Back in the ring, EC3 hits the One Percenter for a two count. Steiner rips apart the fan barricade and throws a part of it towards Borash and Park on the ramp. Borash and Park run backstage, and Steiner and Park follow. Matthews runs after them, but Steiner has a better idea. “Josh, lets get in the golf cart and run their fat asses over.” Steiner drives the golf cart with Borash riding shotgun, then Borash and Park blast them with fire extinguishers. A fan drives into the backstage arena and Steiner steals his SUV. They chase down Borash and Park in the stolen SUV all the way across Universal Studios to the hotel across the street. Moose Reveals How He Thinks Impact Can Compete With WWE

Impact Wrestling star Moose recently did an interview with Sporting News to promote his upcoming Tag Team match alongside NFL running back DeAngelo Williams to take on Chris Adonis and Eli Drake at this weekend’s (Sun. July 2, 2017) Slammiversary XV pay-per-view (PPV). You can check out the highlights here:

Jeff Jarrett being back at the helm of Impact Wrestling:

“I love being part of Impact Wrestling and especially love that Jeff Jarrett is back with the company,” said Moose. “He’s our leader. It’s awesome because he’s the one who started the company and he’s the one who made the company great. I think we went into a slump when he left it. He’s going to bring us back to where we were when he was there.”

Dixie Carter not knowing much about wrestling:

“I think the biggest thing is just knowing that there’s somebody in the office that actually knows what they’re doing,” said Moose. “Dixie was a great person but I think her only flaw was that she didn’t know much about wrestling. The product actually showed. But I think it’s great now that we have Jeff who knows about wrestling and was brought up in the wrestling business and he’s leading us.”

How Impact and other promotions can compete with WWE:

“It gets me so mad when companies are like ‘we don’t work with this company’ or ‘we don’t work with this company’,” explained Moose. “I think that’s so stupid because as of right now, WWE is the biggest wrestling company in the world. Everybody knows that. I feel like the only way that companies could catch up to WWE is to do a combination. I think it would be great for business for a company like Impact Wrestling to work with Ring of Honor and I think we were close to having that relationship before the Hardy’s left the company. We’ll see. You never say never in wrestling.”

Scott Steiner: Dixie Carter is a Joke

As we’ve previously noted, New Japan Pro Wrestling (NJPW) hosted a media call to promote their G1 Special shows from Long Beach, California from the Long Beach Convention and Entertainment Center.

Former WCW Champ Scott Steiner participated on that call and talked about a variety of topics including his thoughts on Dixie Carter, his favorite moment with Impact Wrestling, the difference between Dixie’s management and Jeff Jarrett, and so many more. You can check out the highlights from Steiner’s portion of the call here:

Legal issues with Dixie Carter:

“I mean, [Dixie Carter] is a joke. She was basically a pain [in the butt]. Talked the truth about Hogan. She dropped the case and we’ll see what happens. It’s not over.”

His favorite moments with Impact Wrestling:

“My favorite moment was the Main Event Mafia. The champions were all together, and that was a lot of fun because you had a lot of history in the ring every time we stepped in the ring. A lot of us had been around for a long time, so the stuff that we did backstage, the stuff that didn’t make it on TV was also entertaining and funny. To date, that’s been the highest rated portion of TNA’s existence. A lot of people bought into it because of the reality of everything. It was a lot of fun.”

The difference between the management styles of Carter and Jeff Jarrett:

“If you talk to anybody, there’s a huge difference. When people see Jeff, they know that he knows what he’s doing. Clearly, everyone knew that Dixie didn’t know what she was doing. She was a mark wanting to be on TV. It’s night and day. People wanna come to work, they’re excited about what everyone is doing, and it is a totally different atmosphere.”

What changes should happen in professional wrestling:

“The first change they should make is getting rid of Stephanie McMahon and Hunter McMahon, because they’re two idiots who are running the whole place up there. It’s like, I feel sorry for the wrestlers nowadays. They’ve got to follow the instructions of these two idiots that clearly don’t know what they’re doing. They’re not watching because the ratings are down, and the reason why I call him Hunter McMahon is because she obviously wears the pants.”

Why he won’t be going into the WWE Hall Of Fame:

“I’m not going into the WWE Hall of Fame, because I’m not going somewhere where there’s nowhere to go. GPS the WWE Hall of Fame. Where’s it at? See, I’m not going somewhere where if I get in trouble or something, I can’t call 911. I can’t have a beacon call, or call the coast guard. Cuz, who knows? It could be in Atlantis for all I know. Or it could be in parts unknown. It’s a joke. How can you go somewhere that is non-existent? I’d be better off if the WWE Hall of Fame was on the moon… cancel your reservations if you want to see me, because it’s not happening.”

Impact Wrestling Acquires Global Force Wrestling

Impact Wrestling sent out a press release on Wednesday announcing that parent company Anthem Sports & Entertainment has entered into an agreement to acquire Global Force Wrestling. As part of the transaction, Jeff Jarrett, the founder of both Impact & Global Force, will join Anthem Wrestling Exhibitions as a member of its board of managers, equity owner and Chief Creative Officer.

Jarrett launched Global Force Wrestling back in 2014 after leaving Impact, then known as TNA Wrestling. The promotion aimed to collaborate with various wrestling companies around the world and they even shot a series of TV shows hoping to land a national television deal, which never materialized. They ran live events at baseball venues across the United States, but the company’s prospects appear to bottom out when Jarrett wound up using the Global Force brand name to sell gold to marks looking for the investment opportunity of a lifetime.

In the main event of Sunday’s Impact Wrestling Slammiversary XV pay-per-view, Alberto El Patron defends the Global Force Championship against Impact Champion Bobby Lashley in a title unification bout.

Bobby Lashley Invites President Donald Trump To Be In His Corner At Slammiversary

Impact Wrestling World Heavyweight Champion Bobby Lashley has invited President Trump to be in his corner on July 2nd at the Slammiversary PPV. Donald Trump has already been in Lashley’s corner back at WrestleMania 23. Lashley defeated Umaga and then Trump shaved Vince McMahon’s head.

Bobby Lashley will be facing GFW Global Champion Alberto El Patron at Slammiversary in the main-event. Alberto El Patron already has his father, legendary Mexican wrestler Dos Caras, in his corner. Impact Wrestling released the following statement:

Lashley Wants President Trump In His Corner For Slammiversary on July 2nd
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Nashville (June 23, 2017) – IMPACT Wrestling World Champion Bobby Lashley made an unprecedented Presidential appeal on Thursday morning.

Via Twitter, Lashley (@fightbobby) asked President Donald Trump to be in his corner for his title defense at Slammiversary on July 2, when Lashley puts the gold on the line against Alberto El Patron.

El Patron earlier this week announced that his father, legendary Mexican wrestler Dos Caras, will be in his corner at Slammiversary.

Lashley asked Trump to join him at Slammiversary, which will be held on pay-per-view and filmed at the backlot of Universal Studios Florida in Orlando.

“Well, it looks like I need to find a cornerman for Slammiversary? @realDonaldTrump? It won’t be the 1st time! #reallegend,” Lashley tweeted.

IMPACT Wrestling is waiting for an answer from Trump.

Jeff Jarrett: There’s No Question “Broken” Gimmick is Impact Property

It has been an up-and-down battle for the “Broken” gimmick over these past few months between Impact Wrestling and The Hardys. Matt and Jeff made the decision to leave Impact earlier this year, in favor of returning to WWE at WrestleMania 33 where they won the RAW Tag Team Championships in a Fatal Four Way Ladder Match. Although Matt has still been using some “Broken” mannerisms and chants, he hasn’t been able to fully utilize the gimmicks potential due to the ongoing legal battle of the character’s rights with Impact.

Both sides have made arguments as to why the rights to the character rightfully belong to them, and Impact Wrestling’s Jeff Jarrett was the latest to chime in during a recent interview with Wrestle:List:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Hs_E-quJdiE

“I always take the high road because there is legal squabbles or potential legal squabbles but I have said this to a couple of outlets, and I say this with very broad strokes – I am from Nashville so I am around music which is intellectual property and I have been in the business 30 years,” Jarrett said. “Intellectual property laws are very simple, there are two sides to it; there are publishers and the writers, then there are the performers as well.”

“Jeff Hardy has been one of my best friends for 20 years, you can look on my social media and their social media, and we take family vacations together but business is business,” Jarrett continued. “So when it relates to IP it’s real simple, there is a publisher who owns the property, there is a writer who gets credit and can monetize it, then there is the performers. There is no question that Broken Matt and Brother Nero’s performances were off the charts good. But when it comes to ownership to me it’s almost a silly squabble, it’s never been in question. Impact are the owners.”

Alberto: Lashley Match Will Be 1,000x Better Than Lesnar vs. Joe

Impact Wrestling returns to pay-per-view on Sunday, July 2nd with Slammiversary XV. It’s the company’s first Slammiversary event under the leadership of Anthem.

The main event will see a world title unification match between Impact Wrestling champion Bobby Lashley and Global Force champion Alberto El Patron. To promote the match, both men recently spoke with Justin Barrasso of Sports Illustrated. Each man spoke about their strategies heading into the match and the current state of Impact Wrestling.

It was Alberto El Patron who had the most newsworthy quote of the interview, promising that his match against Lashley will be better than Brock Lesnar and Samoa Joe’s upcoming match at Great Balls of Fire. Not just better, but a lot better.

“Our match is going to be a thousand times better,” said Patron in hard-sell mode. “I have deep respect for Brock Lesnar and Samoa Joe, and I know they’ll give the fans an amazing match, but they’ll be limited by the politics in that company. That company won’t let one of them give one-hundred percent to the audience, they’re going to hold them back. Impact Wrestling says, ‘Here is the ring, go do your thing.’”

Alberto El Patron and Bobby Lashley are world class athletes deserving of headlining one of Impact’s biggest shows of the year. Whether or not they can deliver on these very high expectations remains to be seen.

Gregory Helms and Al Snow Leave IMPACT Wrestling

Gregory Helms and Al Snow have officially left IMPACT Wrestling. They follow the string of talents that have departed the company since the return of Jeff Jarrett, including Matt & Jeff Hardy, Crazzy Steve, Maria & Mike Kanellis, Jade and Drew McIntyre.

Helms took the Twitter to wish the company “all the best in their future endeavors,” and say that “I’ve never been an ass-kisser and I damn sure wasn’t gonna start with an owl.”

Al Snow also commented on his departure via Twitter, he stated: “I want to say thank you to everyone at Impact Wrestling for the great run I’ve had. Change must always happen & I am excited for the future.”

EC3 Talks Potential WWE Return, What He Learned From Dusty Rhodes

Impact Wrestling star Ethan Cater III was a guest on Sean Waltman’s, X-Pac 12360 podcast this week. EC3 spoke about what led to his WWE departure, if he’d ever return, what he learned from the late Dusty Rhodes and much more. Here are some highlights of what EC3 said about:

His departure from WWE / NXT:

“I got hurt on the road, I believe it was a Saturday Night Main Event match with Cesaro and I kinda got hurt. I had surgery and rehab so I went back to developmental to at least work on my skills or do whatever to get back on the radar. Instead, I got fired, but it’s okay, it’s a lesson to learn and it inspired me to work ever harder.”

A potential return to WWE one day:

“It’s definitely a thought I have now that I’ve accomplished a lot and kind of made a name for myself elsewhere and to be blunt and frankly honest I have a lot left to accomplish. I believe I have a lot to prove there (WWE), that I never had the chance to do or didn’t deserve at the time. But you know I’ve learned a lot about myself and know myself now that it’s definitely on my mind but it’s not something I can focus on, my commitments are with Impact.”

What he learned from Dusty Rhodes:

“Just communication, telling a story the ability to base a promo. The hook in the beginning and the conclusion being the most important part and the peaks and valleys you take them on the way, when you’re trying to tell that story. He compared it to a lot of promos to match and match to promo. You have your initial thing that catches their attention. You can have the best match of the world and your finish absolutely sucks. You have a bad match but you have a bad promo. You have an okay or bad match until the end and the conclusion is great, then you have a great promo and a great match.”

Impact Wrestling Announces Commentary Team For Slammiversary

Impact Wrestling has announced the following:

Impact Wrestling Taps MLB/NHL Announcer Robert Flores For Slammiversary

Don West Comes Back For Color Commentary Duties

NASHVILLE (June 13, 2017) — IMPACT Wrestling is dipping into the high-profile sports world for a little broadcasting help at Slammiversary 15, a pay-per-view extravaganza on July 2 in Orlando, Florida.

IMPACT has signed Robert Flores to be the lead announcer for Slammiversary, to work alongside longtime IMPACT color commentator Don West, who is making a one-night return behind the microphone.

IMPACT faced an announcing dilemma for Slammiversary as broadcasters Josh Mathews and Jeremy Borash are wrestling in a tag-team match as the animosity between the two has boiled over in recent weeks.  Borash and Joseph Park will team up against Mathews and “Big Poppa Pump” Scott Steiner, one of the most powerful and feared wrestlers of all time.

Flores is a studio host appearing across MLB Network’s programming, including MLB Network’s Emmy Award-winning daily studio show, MLB Tonight.  In addition to MLB Network, Flores is a studio host for NHL Network and contributes across MLB Advanced Media’s digital properties, including MLB.com and Sports On Earth.

Flores joined MLB Network and NHL Network in 2016 from ESPN, where he most recently anchored SportsCenter, ABC’s college football studio updates and ESPN2’s Fantasy Football Now.  Flores joined ESPN in 2005 as an ESPNews anchor and later contributed to a variety of studio shows, including Baseball Tonight, NBA Fastbreak and Friday Night Fights.

Flores is a lifelong pro wrestling fan.

“I’m excited to have a part in this year’s Slammiversary and grateful to Jeff Jarrett for this unique opportunity,” Flores said.

Flores said the match that he’s most excited to announce is for the X-Division Championship. “I’m a fan of high-flyers,” Flores said.

A Texas native, Flores earned his bachelor’s degree in radio and television from the University of Houston in 1992. Flores attended J. Frank Dobie High School in Houston and is a member of their JFD Hall of Fame.  His wrestling roots are engrained in his Houston childhood.

“To play a role in Slammiversary alongside Don West is really cool,” Flores said.  “Slammiversary is an event 15-years in the making, and the best always separate themselves on the biggest stages – be it the in the wrestling ring or the World Series.

“I can’t wait to see what the IMPACT Wrestling stars do on July 2nd at Slammiversary.”

Don West broke onto the broadcasting scene in the 1990s on the Shop At Home Network.  He was the popular, loud, energetic, abrasive salesman, pitching countless products on late-night television – and he even was in a parody video (portrayed by actor Will Ferrell) during a segment of Saturday Night Live.

West spent about 10 years as a color commentator for IMPACT Wrestling, dating back to the company’s first-ever event on June 19, 2002.

“I am so excited to be a part of IMPACT again and to be a part of the great Slammiversary weekend,” West said.  “As an avid sports and baseball fan, it will be a great honor to work next to Robert Flores as I have admired his professionalism for years.  When Jeff Jarrett asked me to do this, I had only one response, ‘YOU’VE GOT TO BE KIDDING ME!!!’”

“It will be great to see and hear Don West back on an IMPACT Wrestling broadcast; no one brings more energy and excitement to a broadcast than Don,” said Jeff Jarrett, the Chief Creative Officer for IMPACT Wrestling.  “Having a broadcaster on Slammiversary at the level that Robert Flores has achieved is unbelievable.  We are so excited to have RoFlo in the IMPACT family – and broadcast booth.”

Bram On His Relationship With Billy Corgan, Ex-Wife Charlotte Flair, Suspension In Japan & More

Impact Wrestling star Bram recently spoke with Robert Krupar from Art of Wrestling about various topics. Here are some highlights from the interview:

His time in The Ascension and why The Ascension hasn’t worked on the main roster:

“The Ascension was cool and I am glad I was a part of the early stages I am still close with both guys, Konnor and Viktor. I wish them nothing but the best and success. What we did and what is on TV now is a completely different product to what we were doing when I was part of it,  so I can´t really comment. However, they are on TV and making money so to me that is still a successful endeavor.”

Getting suspended by Japanese Promotion NOAH for a post on social media:

“Me and Robbie E were asked to come over to Japan to take part in the Global Tag League. Me and Robbie were killing it as a team over there and had great matches. I love Japan and the style and I was excited to have the opportunity to go over there and wrestle for NOAH. Their office is great and the boys were great to us. I loved it! However one evening as a joke I lay on an ice cream fridge and took a picture, which I put on my Instagram account. I was trying to be funny and meant no harm, I had no idea it would upset people, no idea!

I publicly apologized for the incident to the media but it was too late, NOAH suspended me due to the picture. I hope one day I can return to NOAH and finish what i started. I like it there. The relationship between NOAH and Impact is completely fine and there´s no hard feelings. I just had no idea it would be such a bad thing and honestly meant it only to be funny. I´m hoping once the dust settles I can go back because I know they liked me.”

His relationship with Billy Corgan, working for Dixie Carter, Jeff Jarrett returning to Impact Wrestling:

“I love Billy Corgan! He´s a close friend of mine and someone I hold in high regard. His mind for the business and business in general is impeccable. Having him on board for the time he was with us, for me, was fantastic. I´m pretty sure all the boys would agree with that too.

I always liked Dixie a lot and she was good to me. I had no issues with her whatsoever. What goes on in the office or behind closed doors is not my business nor do I put much thought into it, my job is to entertain. Anthem seem keen to get stuck into Impact and turn it around for the better so I´m all for it. Having Jeff Jarrett back is great, it´s his baby at the end of the day and he gets and understands the business from every angle.”

His favorite female wrestler:

“I can´t say I watch a lot of women´s wrestling but I will watch if Ashley is on. Without sounding bias, Charlotte Flair, (Ashley) is my ultimate favorite. She´s the best in the world when it comes to women´s wrestling. Hell, she´s stepping on the dudes toes too! She has so much natural charisma, it´s effortless to her. It´s like she´s been doing it forever and she´s only been doing it for a handful of years. I love watching her work.”

Impact Wrestling Paid Fans To Attend India Tapings, DeAngelo Williams To Team With Moose At Slammiversary

Impact Wrestling Paid Fans To Attend Tapings In India

According to the latest Wrestling Observer Newsletter, TNA actually paid fans to attend their tapings last week. Impact was taped in a TV studio that had a 500 person capacity. Everyone in the crowd was paid 250-400 rupees (between $3.80 and $7.60) to attend the shows. Fans in attendance were also instructed how to react to wrestlers. Fans were told that heel wrestlers would enter from the left side of the stage and babyface wrestlers would enter from the right side. The audience also performed the wave during the tapings several times. Unfortunately, those waves were not spontaneous and were orchestrated by the M.C. at the tapings.

Alberto Del Rio Reveals How He’ll Help Impact Wrestling After Retirement

Former WWE Superstar and current Impact Wrestling star Alberto El Patron (a.k.a Alberto Del Rio) recently did an interview for Impact Wrestling during the promotion’s tour of India. Del Rio talked about his plans after retirement from pro wrestling, including how he plans to help Impact after he’s done competing in the ring. Here are the highlights:

For a long time, you were constantly linked with Impact Wrestling, and you finally made your debut earlier this year. Can you tell us what the fan reaction meant to you, with you being one of the top acquisitions for Impact Wrestling in the recent past?

“Oh, all the fans’ welcoming made me very happy. All my videos in the first week with Impact Wrestling went viral. We had more than 4 million viewers – people were just happy. People were talking about it for days, for weeks, because nobody expected to see me at Impact, especially because of all the rumors that said that I was going back to WWE. So for me to be there, make an impact and face Bobby Lashley, becoming the champion on the very first night, it was phenomenal.”

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4rXeo8GqA1Q

We previously talked about how long you see yourself as a professional wrestler. You said you’d be in the business for maybe 3 years. Is that still the case for you?

“Yes, definitely. Definitely. I’m not going to be doing this for too long.I’m tired, I’m just tired. I’m going to stop doing so many shows outside of the United States. I’m going to come back to India anytime they need me with Impact Wrestling. But I’m not going to do so many shows in Europe. I just cancelled my – one of the shows in Chile. I think I’m just going to take two weeks off because I want to go home and rest.

“After India, I have to go home. I think I have to be home for two days and I’m going to do some work. I was supposed to go to Chile but I cancelled it, because I want to take my kids to – I have a house in Orlando. So I’m planning on taking my kids to Orlando for the whole month. I need to rest. My brain needs to rest. And I think this is the perfect time, after this Indian tour.

“It looks like everything is going fantastically in India, and I just want it to be a surprise. I want to go home completely happy, be happy at the end of the tour, at the end of the shows. To go knowing this tour was a complete success.”

What does the future have in store for you?

“Well, I’m going to retire from pro wrestling soon. And if everything goes well, I will stay at Impact (Wrestling) working as an agent, a producer. Everybody loves my work, everybody loves my choreography. Everyone talks about the way I structure the matches and how when someone is in the ring with me, I will elevate that someone. So if that is something I can help with once I retire from my wrestling days, I will be completely happy doing it.

“So, once my in – ring days are over, I will be doing some agent/producer work for the company, and I’m going to continue working with Combate Americas and taking the company to new places, and help that company to grow. I have a lot of plans, a lot of projects outside wrestling, and most importantly, I am going to go home and enjoy with my family.”

Cody Rhodes is Reportedly Done Working With Impact Wrestling

Last year, former WWE Intercontinental Champion Cody Rhodes made the decision to walk away from the company citing creative differences and a displeasure with his then-role on the roster dubbing his Stardust gimmick. He has since solidified himself as one of the biggest names in the sport and the most sought after free agent in professional wrestling.

Rhodes has done work for Impact Wrestling, Ring Of Honor, and New Japan Pro Wrestling since his departure, but according to his wife Brandi, he’s done working for Jeff Jarrett and company:

Rhodes made his Impact debut back in October of last year when he signed a non-exclusive deal with the company and made his debut at Bound for Glory. He last competed on Impact Wrestling Television back in March where he lost to Moose in an Impact Grand Championship match.

During a recent interview with Sports Illustrated, Rhodes revealed that he’s in the process of looking for a permanent home after jumping from promotion to promotion the past year (quotes via CBS Sports):

“I guess I spoke too soon.” Rhodes said. “It’s probably not time to make a decision. But if I did make a decision, it’s just a matter of trust. There’s so little trust in pro wrestling. So little. And there should be. We all love this thing and want to put on the best show and fill all of the seats in the house. But it’s trust and being around people in the office that I trust. I trust every guy in the locker room for the most part. But it’s finding that top brass in most companies that I know, if I put my name on the dotted line, that I’ll be taken care of. Honestly, any offer that came my way I haven’t really looked at. My date book is still pretty deep — all the way through September. It goes everywhere. We’ll probably revisit it then.”
