Reby Hardy Continues To Rant About Impact Wrestling’s Business Practices

Reby Hardy is back with another Twitter rant about the business practices of Impact Wrestling and its parent company, Anthem Sports and Entertainment. Reby confirms reports that Anthem has been threatening legal action against Ring of Honor and cable providers that air programming featuring the “Broken” Matt Hardy, which Anthem claims to own.

Impact Threatening Hardys & Cable Providers Over Broken Universe, Matt Responds To Reby’s Rant

“Broken” Matt Hardy has responded to his wife Reby’s Twitter rant against Impact Wrestling with some words of support for Queen Rebecca.

For those who missed it, Reby went off on Impact Wrestling executives for allegedly threatening the Hardy family with legal action if Matt and company used the ‘broken’ gimmick in other promotions. PWInsider confirms what we suspected – Impact Wrestling sent out cease and desist letters threatening legal action if Matt and Jeff Hardy used their “broken” characters in Ring of Honor and elsewhere.

Impact parent company Anthem Sports and Entertainment is claiming ownership of the ‘Broken Universe’ since it was developed while they Hardys were working for them.

Anthem threatening legal action against not only the Hardy family but also the promotions that hire Matt and Jeff and the PPV providers that carry shows they’re featured on. Dave Meltzer revealed on Wrestling Observer Radio that Dish Network actually refused to air last night’s Ring of Honor 15th Anniversary PPV after receiving a legal threat from Anthem. DirecTV and other outlets still carried the show, but this is a very aggressive pre-emptive strike by Anthem that could lead to more bad will against the company just as they’re hoping to rebrand Impact Wrestling.

Reby Hardy Goes On Epic Twitter Rant Against Impact Wrestling

Reby Hardy blasted Impact Wrestling on Twitter on Friday afternoon, taking the company’s executives to task for apparently taking legal action to prevent Matt Hardy from using his “Broken” gimmick in Ring of Honor and elsewhere.

The Hardys are scheduled to defend the ROH World Tag Team Championships at Friday night’s ROH 15th Anniversary iPPV from Las Vegas. They’ll face the Young Bucks and Roppongi Vice in a Vegas Street Fight Triple Threat.

Since the Hardy’s’ departure from Impact, it became public that Impact Wrestling is attempting to prevent them from using the “Broken” gimmick. Matt Hardy recently filed a trademark on the Broken Matt Hardy character, but Anthem is claiming they own the likeness since it first appeared on Impact Wrestling.

Reby curses out Anthem & Impact executives, talks about how petty they are being after all the Hardy family did for them, references the recent talent exodus, claims “any writers worth a shit” already left the company and even throws shade at the Anthem owl.

Impact Wrestling Viewership For Reboot Episode With Alberto El Patron’s Debut

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vBHvpqXaTww

This week’s Impact Wrestling on POP drew 292,000 viewers, down just a bit from last week’s 293,000 viewers.

This week’s show featured the debut of Alberto El Patron, who won the World Heavyweight Championship, and another reboot for the brand.

It’s worth noting that this week’s Impact did not make the Cable Top 150. Impact ranked #133 last week.

Impact Wrestling Preview: Alberto El Patron & Bruce Prichard, Opening Video Package

The new era of Impact Wrestling kicks off tonight on Pop TV. The name “TNA” is officially dead. Dixie Carter is out, Jeff Jarrett is back and there’s a new booking committee in place. For all the reboots we’ve seen from Impact Wrestling over the years, this one is the most significant and yields the greatest opportunity for real change. If you gave up on Impact Wrestling, you should watch tonight to see the early stages of this new direction.

Impact is advertising the following items for tonight:

  • The debut of Alberto El Patron
  • TNA Champion Bobby Lashley will be in action
  • The debut of Rachel Ellering. She’ll face Sienna
  • A shakeup of the Impact Wrestling announce team
  • DCC vs. Reno Scum
  • Braxton Sutter vs. DJ Z vs. Caleb Konely vs. Marshe Rockett

We’ll also see the return of Bruce Prichard. You can see full spoiler results from the tapings here.

Ahead of tonight’s show, Impact Wrestling has released the opening segment looking at the promotion’s former “TNA” years.

In related news, Impact Wrestling is running a social media promotion where fans can vote to name the Anthem Owl. Tweet #AnthemOwl with your suggestions. We vote for “Dixie.”

Anthem’s “Fight Network” Undergoing Layoffs

The new owners of Impact Wrestling are “heavily downsizing” employees and scaling back on original content at the Fight Network. Anthem Sports and Entertainment swooped in (like an owl) to save Impact from the brink of bankruptcy. The Fight Network, another Anthem subsidiary, airs Impact Wrestling in Canada and to its app subscribers worldwide.

Fight analyst Robin Black, recently posted on his Facebook page about being laid off from the company. The concerning parts of Black’s post is the mention of heavy downsizing and scaling back on original content. This is just speculation, but Anthem’s large investment in Impact could be the cause for downsizing in other areas of their business.

More information will be available when it is known what other areas of Anthem’s programming is being scaled back as well.

Impact Wrestling Viewership Up Last Week, Latest “Impact In 60” Video

Last week’s week’s TNA Impact on POP episode drew 293,000 viewers, up from last week’s 275,000 viewers.

The show featured Rosemary retaining the Knockouts Championship from Jade in a Last KO Standing Match and Lashley retaining the World Heavyweight Championship over Josh Barnett in the main event.

Impact ranked #135 on the cable top 150 this week, down from last week’s #133 spot.

Spike TV: We’re Not Negotiating With Impact Wrestling About U.S. Return

Spike TV has publicly denied reports that they’re negotiating to bring Impact Wrestling back to their channel in the United States, after Impact recently signed with their United Kingdom channel. Brian Fritz of The Sporting News reports that Spike representatives told him channel executive Scott Fishman was only at the Impact tapings over the weekend to visit, and they are not in negotiations with Impact Wrestling. Fishman was also reportedly backstage at an Impact taping in January to visit, and he worked closely with the company when they were starting on Spike TV.

Fritz and the reporter of the original article, Ryan Satin of ProWrestlingSheet.com, discussed the conflicting reports on Twitter, which you can read below:

https://twitter.com/ryansatin/status/838784814736015360

https://twitter.com/ryansatin/status/838788099190611973

Spike is scheduled to rebrand as The Paramount Network sometime in the next year. Impact Wrestling’s deal with Pop TV ends at the end of 2017.

Jeff Jarrett Meets With Senior Vice President Of Spike TV About Impact Wrestling

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uLaxfptrzWY

After being brought back into the fold by Anthem Sports, Jeff Jarrett met with an executive from Spike TV about Impact Wrestling. According to a report by Ryan Satin of ProWrestlingSheet.com, Jarrett met with a high ranking executive from Spike on Saturday, and Impact’s new Spike UK deal wasn’t the only thing they discussed.

There’s no word how the talks played out, but Jarrett and Spike Senior Vice President and Executive Producer Scott Fishman reportedly discussed the possibility of Impact Wrestling returning to Spike in the U.S. Fishman worked closely with the show during their early days on Spike.

Spike will reportedly be rebranding as Paramount TV this year.

Matt Morgan & Other Returning TNA Stars Backstage At Impact Wrestling Taping (Photo)

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wXS_5-0GJO0

Several stars from TNA’s past are returning to work with Impact Wrestling’s new management, and in a note that confirms our previous report, Matt Morgan was backstage at this week’s TV tapings to take some promotional photos. Morgan previously received a decent push in TNA, but in 2012 voiced displeasure with management and he was released shortly after. Morgan is now 40 and hasn’t had a match since 2015, but he’s been training and appears to be in great shape.

Gail Kim and Chris Masters were also backstage at this week’s Impact tapings. According to PWInsider.com, Masters and Morgan are both expected to appear on TV soon. As previously noted, former TNA personalities Bruce Prichard and Konnan are also returning to the company. Prichard is returning in both a management and on-air capacity, and it’s unknown what roles Konnan will be filling.

Alberto El Patron Joins Impact Wrestling

Former WWE Champion Alberto El Patron has officially joined Impact Wrestling. Alberto made his debut at Thursday night’s TV tapings and made a serious impact that you can watch on next week’s episode. We held off on mentioning the surprise debut to avoid spoilers, but Impact broke the news themselves this afternoon:

Alberto was referred to “Alberto De Patron” at last night’s tapings, but it seems he’s back to El Patron (?).

Earlier today, Alberto El Patron / De Patron / El Presidente posted the following on photo and message on Instagram. It sounds like he’ll be sticking around for a while, as he talks about Impact Wrestling being his new home. He also said it’s nice to not “wake up miserable” due to an unpleasant work environment and put the Impact Wrestling locker room over as being supportive of each other and watching each others matches backstage.

Details On Impact’s New Booking Committee, Reaction To Jim Ross’ “Soundtrack” Tweet (Exclusive)

Thursday night saw the first television taping of the latest “new era” of Impact Wrestling. Airing March 9th, the episode saw some notable returns, a big debut and Impact’s new booking committee in action.

According to well placed source, Impact’s new booking committee is comprised of Jeff Jarrett, Dutch Mantell, Scott D’Amore and Abyss with Jeremy Borash (and others) having the opportunity to pitch ideas. The group is in the process of bringing on another member, specifically someone younger to balance things out.

Prior to the taping, WWE Hall of Famer Jim Ross sent out a tweet teasing a “different soundtrack” for Impact moving forward. Obviously this was a reference to the commentary team. Despite JR’s relationship with New Japan Pro Wrestling, this set off a lot of speculation that he could be joining Impact as an announcer.  We’re told Impact officials backstage at the taping were very upset with JR’s tweet, which was seen as “self serving” and “detrimental” to their brand refresh.

Several hours later, JR set the record straight and clarified that he would not be part of Impact’s new broadcast team. Unfortunately, the damage was already done. The source added, “They expected more from someone as classy as JR.”

It’s also worth noting that Impact Wrestling is currently looking to establish working relationships in the UK. The company currently works with NOAH (Japan) and Crash (Mexico), so expect to see talent from both of those promotions used in the coming months as part of the roster refresh.

Spoilers: Impact Wrestling Tapings Results (Airing 3/9)

The new era of Impact Wrestling began on Thursday night at Universal Studios in Orlando, FL. Here are the results for the March 9th episode of Impact, courtesy of Jacob Cohen:

– Borash says there will be a new announcer. Jeremy Borash is the new announcer! Borash says to Josh that new management wants someone out there that the fans actually like. Borash berating Matthews for disrespecting the fans, legends, and it’s time to change things up. Says Mike Tenay mentored him to be the next announcer, but someone got fired from WWE and the dummy old owners hired Josh. Josh says he sat under the learning tree of Jim Ross and called WM, he came to TNA for free. Borash says he’s friends with Jim Ross and JR thinks Matthews sucks.

– Eddie Edwards and Davey Richards brawling their way out to start the show. They brawl into the crowd.

– Cody Rhodes comes out says it’s time to start the show, asks the audience who wants to see Cody vs Moose tonight.

– Reno Scum defeat DCC. Dissension is teased in the DCC post match.

– Braxton Sutter defeats Marshe Rockett, DJZ, & Caleb Konley in a 4 way, after the match Laurel Van Ness came out to yell at Allie.

– KC Quinn (?), local wrestler Brandi Lauren. Cody does not allow Brandi Rhodes vs KC Quinn to happen, offer KC $45 ($20 more than she would get paid) to leave. Cody says Moose says he’s in Japan, but Cody IS Japan. Cody challenges Moose for the Impact Grand Championship. Rosemary comes from the crowd and attacks KC Quinn for no reason.

– Bruce Prichard is here. Bruce claiming there was an Impact with hope a few years ago, but for whatever reason it didn’t happen. TNA as a name is dead. Impact Wrestling is officially the only name this company goes by from this point forward. The new owners looked for people who have achieved greatness in the past, and Bruce has been there for it all. Bruce knows how to make wrestling great, and he certainly knows how to make an Impact. Bruce says it is important to know the face of the company, and brings out Bobby Lashley. Lashley says he has beat everyone and was the official choice of the President of the United States. Bruce says he doesn’t know if anyone on the Impact roster can beat Lashley, out comes Alberto Del Patron. EC3 out now. EC3 says Alberto needs to earn his shot, and EC3 has carried the company for years on his perfectly symmetrical back. Lashley says EC3 lost to him already and won’t get a shot, Lashley and Alberto will wrestle tonight!

Dutch is out now. Dutch is here because 8 years ago TNA was great and he’s here to make Impact great again. Dutch talking about Style, Joe, Sting, Angle, Roode, Christian, and Nash and how they used to be here but left. They left the company because of a lack of leadership, vision, and respect But the biggest issue was that the fans left. Dutch wants to bring the fans back, he is here to give advice, he only answers to his boss, and his boss is the fans. This incarnation of Impact Wrestling is going to be given back to the fans. Asks everyone to stand and say “We The People… will make Impact great!”

– Cody out again, called Moose out again, Borash reminds Cody Moose is in Japan. Cody sat in the ring, then left.

– Sienna defeats Racheal Ellering.

– Garza Jr & Laredo Kid defeat Eli Drake & Tyrus.

– Rockstar Spud is out, Borash gave him cue cards, he’s announcing the April dates and promoting http://shoptna.com. July 2nd is Slammiversary.

– Alberto El Patron “defeats” Bobby Lashley to become Impact Wrestling Champion. Hebner and Stiffler fighting over who the champion is, Earl out to settle this. Bruce Prichard and other Impact officials out to try and figure this out. Alberto is leaving with the belt.

This was likely taped for 3/16/17:

– Cody attacks Moose with a chair on the way to the ring for his match with Eli Drake, then gives him crossroads on the stage. Eli Drake vs Moose does not happen.

– Cody vs Moose for the Grand Championship up now, this is the final match at the taping. Cody accidentally hit a judge and the judge is incapacitated. Bruce Prichard is out and he will be the 3rd judge. Round 1 has been awarded to Moose. Round 2 has been awarded to Cody. Brandi walks out on Cody before the start of Round 3. Moose wins by split decisionl

Spoiler: Major TNA Title Change In Orlando Tonight (Photos)

Former WWE Superstar Alberto El Patron (Alberto Del Rio) made his TNA debut at tonight’s Impact tapings in Orlando and later defeated Bobby Lashley to become the new World Heavyweight Champion.

Their match should air as the main event of next Thursday’s episode.

Below are photos and spoiler notes from the match. Stay tuned for full spoilers from Orlando.

TNA Stars Returning, New Impact Logo, Marketing Campaign, UK TV Deal

There’s lots of TNA news ahead of tonight’s Impact Wrestling tapings from Orlando:

– In addition to Bruce Prichard, Matt Morgan and Konnan are back with the company. Morgan is expected to be pushed as a top star and is training for a bodybuilding competition later this year, so he will be in great shape.

With Bruce Prichard, the current plan is for him to be used as a television personality. His Something To Wrestle podcast is wildly popular and TNA would see a nice uptick in viewership if a large portion of Prichard’s audience tunes in to Impact.

– As crazy as this sounds, a big initiative of this new era will be to bury the former regime. We’ll see if Dixie Carter is mentioned by name, but the “Make Impact Great Again” campaign that Jeff Jarrett has been talking about is to distance themselves from the Carter camp.

– TNA will be taping six episodes of Impact over four days of tapings. In an effort to not get too backlogged with taped episode, it was reportedly Jeff Jarrett’s idea to only pre-tape six episodes.

– Impact Wrestling once again has a new logo, which is a definite improvement over the Anthem owl variation.

– TNA has signed a new TV deal with Spike TV UK. Impact Wrestling returns to Spike on April 21st.

Drew Galloway Talks About His Decision To Leave TNA, Potential WWE Return

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tBam_G6wRGA

Former TNA Champion Drew Galloway is now a free agent after two years with the company. During an interview with The Scottish Sun, Galloway broke his silence on what led to his departure.

“They came to me last week with an offer and it was very very good one, one of the best in the company and a position as top guy but the reality is that because they waited until the last second I had to turn it down,” he said. “Everything was so last minute. I had to to think about back-up plans and family because it went to the wire.”

Earlier this week, Matt Hardy’s wife Reby appeared on the Busted Open radio show and described their negotiations in a similar manner. Reby said they didn’t receive their new offers until five days before they were going to become free agents. Things came down to the wire and she felt like they were being bullied into signing their deals.

“I was surprised I got no heads-up beforehand and when they got in touch last week they wouldn’t accept no for an answer and the financial offer was great so it was a very hard decision to make,” Drew said. “If all of this was said three weeks ago I would have signed.”

As for what’s next for him, Gallow is in no rush to make any rash decisions. He’s open to working with WWE again, but first he wants to explore all possibilities. He’s been on a long journey since he left WWE a decade ago and feels that he’s developed into a seasoned, well-rounded performer.

“I started wrestling at 15 and signed with world’s biggest company by 21 and then had to rebuild myself again … It has to be the right offer and in the end, I’m not a young kid anymore. WWE was my dream at 21 but these days it’s all business.”

Two More Wrestlers Done With TNA

“The Miracle” Mike Bennett and Maria Kanellis are the latest performers to depart TNA Wrestling, according to PWInsider. They join Matt Hardy, Jeff Hardy and Drew Galloway as notable talents who left this week.

TNA officials have been trying to sign the couple over the past several weeks. They reportedly reached an agreement, but Bennett and Kanellis decided it was time to move on. They’re not expected to work this week’s Impact Wrestling tapings from Orlando.

Reby Hardy Reveals New Details About The Hardy Family Leaving TNA (Audio)

“It’s too late to salvage this, it’s the 11th hour. The deals expire at midnight tonight”

Reby Hardy appeared on the SiriusXM Busted Open radio show on Tuesday to discuss her family’s departure from TNA Wrestling. You can listen to the entire interview below, but here are the main points:

– The decision for the Hardy family to leave was made over the past several days. They didn’t receive their new contracts until five days prior to the current deal expiring.  As things were really coming down to the wire, “it was almost like we were being bullied into signing the contracts.”

– Up until recently, TNA was the perfect situation that allowed them all to travel together and work a limited schedule.

– “I don’t feel there is ever a situation for guys like Matt and Jeff where they should be chasing after their employer for their new contract, led us to believe that they didn’t think we were important”

– They loved the TNA locker room. Everybody busted their asses and weathered the storm of TNA’s ownership uncertainty in 2016.

– “Say what you will about Dixie Carter, but at least she knew how to talk to people”

– Matt is in love with his BROKEN universe. “He’s not giving that up any time soon, I can confirm that. It’s his baby.”

– They wanted to do the right thing for the fans and the business by dropping the TNA tag titles on television, but Anthem denied that request.

Busted Open can be heard weekdays from 2p-4p Eastern Time only on SiriusXM Rush Channel 93 and any time on the SiriusXM App.

More On TNA’s Creative Shakeup, Another Departure By Longtime Employee

TNA’s behind-the-scenes shakeup continues, as Dutch Mantell has been named head of creative for Impact Wrestling. He’ll be leading the team of Jeff Jarrett, Scott D’Amore and producer Kevin Sullivan.

– Former head writer John Gaburick is no longer writing storylines. He’ll be staying on board as a consultant, providing feedback to the new writing team and helping out backstage.

– Longtime TNA employee Bill Banks has departed the company. It’s believed that he’ll be moving back to the Northeast. He previously worked on the creative teams in WWE and WCW.

Looking back over the past year, Banks joins Dixie Carter, Billy Corgan, John Gaburick, Dave Lagana, Matt Conway and even Matt Hardy as people who have ‘moved on’ from contributing to TNA’s creative direction.

– Jeff Jarrett is not expected to appear on television in the coming weeks, but there’s a good chance his wife Karen will resurface.

TNA’s next round of television tapings take place this weekend from Universal Orlando. Here’s a look at TNA’s upcoming tapings schedule through the summer:

  • Thursday, March 2 – Sunday, March 5.
  • Thursday, April 20 – Sunday, April 23.
  • Sunday, July 2 – Thursday, July 6.
  • Thursday, Aug. 17 – Sunday, Aug. 20.

The April 20th and August 17th episodes will air “live.”

Reby Hardy: “Straight F*ckery” To Blame For Hardys’ Rumored TNA Exit

Reby Hardy, wife of Matt and mother of King Maxel, tweeted the following on Monday afternoon regarding the reports that Matt and Jeff Hardy are leaving Impact Wrestling.

Reby speaks about TNA in the past tense (“was”) and implies that negative changes and “straight f*ckery” led the House of Hardy to pursue greener pastures.

https://twitter.com/RebyHardy/status/836271298384912384

https://twitter.com/RebyHardy/status/836271550693322752

There’s a lot of speculation this week that Matt and Jeff Hardy are done with TNA and headed to WWE. Reby Sky’s comment above corroborates Dave Meltzer saying that TNA’s new ownership and management threw a wrench in Matt’s TNA negotiations.

Earlier today, Matt Hardy tweeted:

Matt & Jeff Hardy Likely Leaving Impact Wrestling For WWE

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-Vczscadp3s

The Broken Brilliance of Matt and Jeff Hardy might be too volatile for the confines of Impact Wrestling.

For months it’s been known that the TNA contracts of the Brothers Hardy expire in February. TNA is holding their next round of Impact Wrestling tapings later this week. According to sources in TNA, their absence all but confirm they’re done with the company.

Early Monday morning, Matt Hardy tweeted the following:

Matt and Jeff have told independent event promoters that they can’t commit to dates after April, another indication that they are WWE bound. Matt and Jeff had a lot of creative control over their characters in TNA, but the recent change in ownership & management have curtailed that power. The other big plus about working for TNA was the flexibility of their schedules.

If they do start negotiating with WWE, you can be sure that their schedules will be a big issue to hammer out. Matt’s wife Reby is currently pregnant with their second child, and Jeff also has two young kids. That said, WWE has become more flexible with select talent working part time and the Hardy Boyz might have the legacy and drawing power to warrant such agreements.

Discussion: If Matt & Jeff Hardy did return to WWE, would they keep the “Broken” characters that revitalized their careers?

Drew Gallway Announces He’s Leaving Impact Wrestling

Former TNA World Heavyweight Champion Drew Galloway has announced that he’s leaving Impact Wrestling effective immediately. Galloway took to Twitter to notify his fans, and publicly thank TNA.

Galloway joined TNA two years ago and won their World Heavyweight Title in March of last year. Galloway has been a hot commodity on the independent circuit, and his next booking is on March 6th where he defends the WCPW Championship against Will Ospreay in Newcastle.

Galloway worked for WWE under the name Drew McIntyre until 2014.

This Week’s TNA Impact Viewership, Impact Recap Video

This week’s TNA Impact on POP TV drew 275,000 viewers, down from last week’s 325,000 viewers.

The show featured the wedding of Laurel Van Ness and Braxton Sutter as the main event.

Impact ranked #133 on the cable top 150 this week, down from last week’s #122 spot.

Update on the TNA Contracts of Matt & Jeff Hardy, Drew Galloway

The TNA contacts of “Broken” Matt and Jeff Hardy are expiring very soon if they have not already. Their is a lot of uncertainty surrounding their future with the company.

According to the Wrestling Observer, they have independent bookings scheduled through April and have told promoters that they can’t commit to any shows in May until they figure out what’s next for them.  WWE has expressed interested in bringing the Hardy Boyz back, but they won’t make any offers until they are officially free agents.

Former TNA Champion Drew Galloway contract also expires this month, ahead of the next set of Impact television tapings. Surprisingly, TNA has not offered him a new deal yet.

Another former TNA Champion, Magnus, has been offered a contract to return, but has yet to sign it.

Josh Mathews Tells Wrestling Podcast Hosts, “Shoot Yourselves”

Over the past week, TNA announcer Josh Mathews has been very active on social media. Following a recent sit-down interview where he referred to himself as the greatest play-by-play announcer in wrestling today, Mathews trash talked several fans and industry personalities who disagreed with his proclamation.

Matthews may have crossed the line this week when told the producers of a wrestling podcast to “shoot themselves.”

Josh Mathews vs. Social Media

The tweet in question is no longer visible on Mathews’ Twitter page. Unconfirmed reports are stating he was asked to delete the tweet by Impact Wrestling management. He has continued to send out insulting tweets to fans since however, indicating the company is aware of and fine with his recent activity.

Over the past week Mathews has engaged in Twitter wars with Jeremy Borash, Shark Boy, and many others. He doesn’t appear to be slowing down anytime soon.
