The security video above was filmed Saturday night backstage before a Texas All-Star Wrestling show in Cypress, TX. Shawn Hernandez is seen in the top left corner approaching indy wrestler Brent McKenzie, who was sitting down. Hernandez is seen throwing a kick at the seated McKenzie, who gets up and hits Hernandez with a right hand that staggers him back into a table. A couple more blows were thrown, then they grabbed onto each other. Hernandez reportedly left bleeding from his mouth and the side of his head.
The scuffle was broken up quickly by other wrestlers. MECW wrestler Byron Wilcott was one of the wrestlers who broke it up, and says he saw Hernandez trying to bully McKenzie. Hernandez reportedly had a brief shouting match with Wilcott after he broke it up, then the former TNA Tag Team Champ left the building before the show started.

TNA King of the Mountain Champion Eli Drake was recently interviewed by The Huffington Post. Here are some highlights of what he said about:
Strongly disliking comedy characters in wrestling:
“One of my biggest gripes with wrestling in the last decade is it has seen a lot of silly, goofy characters. I feel like every other match is a comedy spot, and there’s nothing wrong with that, but I think if there is a comedy spot, it should be special.”
His current role in TNA:
“In all honesty, I’m super happy to be where I am, doing what I’m doing and making a living doing what I love to do. Now I’m being recognized in the sense of being given a more prominent role and being showcased; I couldn’t ask for anything more.”

Former WWE and TNA star Ken Anderson joined the Jordan Garber NOW podcast earlier this week to discuss his career in wrestling, departure from TNA, and the evolution of his persona for WWE. Here are some highlights of what he said about:
Making it to WWE developmental:
“There were up and downs and it took me 6 years of humping it and hustling on the indies to make it to where i got hired by wwe and got a developmental deal. Honestly right before i got signed was the only time where I was like i’ve been doing this for 6 years. This point you got all all your doubters saying “How long are you gonna keep doing this? When are you gonna be successful… When are you gonna hang it up? After awhile it kind of gets to you but i never took my foot off the gas pedal.”
Paul Heyman’s Influence on His Career
“I’ve been floating around OVW for 6 months not really having a sense of purpose. Then Paul Heyman came down… His very first day he pulled me aside and said ‘You’re going to be the first guy out of here I promise you'”
His First Win In WWE:
“I was scheduled to have a dark match with Funaki. He was gonna go over. I was getting ready and Dave Lagana comes by and says I just wanna let you know that we need to change this match. We need a finisher because you’re gonna go over. 2nd this is a televised match and third… Welcome to SmackDown! ”

TNA Wrestling came perilously close to financial ruin over the weekend. Sunday night’s Slammiversary was on the verge of not taking place, if not for the frantic damage control by TNA Chief Financial Officier Dean Broadhead.
Broadhead posted the following message on his personal Facebook page, revealing that it took more than 80 phone calls to employees, vendors, bankers and lawyers from Thursday through Friday as he tried to secure interim financing to get TNA’s “production trucks to roll” for Slammiversary and this week’s Impact TV tapings. He wrote:
“On Thursday and Friday, I logged over 80 business calls on my cell…attorneys, accountants, vendors, bankers, and employees. Maybe time to retire but maybe not until everything is in the right place. To answer why, I had a 12-hour timeframe to secure interim financing so that the production trucks could come – lawyers, bankers, accountants, and owners. Some of them were out of the country. Some were on the west coast and some were on the east coast. That was the reason for all of the calls.”
Broadhead’s savvy financial management is believed to be a major factor in TNA staying afloat the past several years. As noted over the weekend, Billy Corgan is purchasing a minority stake in the company and that cash infusion is what allowed Slammiversary to take place.
TNA dodged a major bullet this weekend, but one has to wonder how many of these ‘close calls’ TNA can afford before disaster strikes.
