Dixie Carter To Make A Major Announcement On Monday

TNA President Dixie Carter will be making a “major announcement” this coming Monday at 12:00pm EST. With the countless number of ‘major announcements’ over the years, we can only speculate that this has to do with TNA’s future on Destination America.

TNA Planning TV Tapings From India Later This Year

It looks like TNA is getting ready to lock in their next set of television tapings, which will take place around late November through early December from India.

Several top TNA stars including TNA Champion EC3 and Mr. Anderson have had to pull out of booking commitments for early December due to TNA holding the next round of television tapings that week.

The tour is expected to take place around November 29 – December 5th. Those tapings would carry TNA through December and into January, when the annual UK tour takes place.

Impact hasn’t taped television since earlier this summer, so the shows that air in October and November will likely be pieced together using previously taped matches and footage that have yet to air on television.

TNA remains ‘in negotiations’ as they look to extend their run on Destination America beyond year end.

Update On TNA Impact Wrestling On Destination America

Destination America has updated their TV schedule through October 22nd and Impact Wrestling is now listed through 10/21, Wednesdays nights at 9 pm EST.

This backs up Dixie Carter’s recent comments to Sports Illustrated, where she said Impact would remain on Destination America through the end of 2015 and beyond the contractually-obligated 39-episode minimum agreed to last year 2014.

Dixie said they are currently in negotiations to extend the show’s run beyond the end of the year, but that’s considered an overly optimistic outlook. As for what happens if Destination America does drop Impact by the end of the year, she told SI, “TNA will continue exist, and on a level that far exceeds what we’re currently doing. I’m looking ahead five years down the road, not a year down the road.”

Gunner Talks About His TNA Run, Wanting To Work For WWE

Former TNA Gunner recently spoke to PWMania.com about his time in TNA and his lifelong goal of working for WWE. Here are some highlights of what he said about:

His Time in TNA, His Departure & What’s Next:

“I really enjoyed working for the company. I’ve been with them since 09’, Terry Taylor helped me get my foot in the door with me and Murphy and working the security deal. I will definitely miss the guys that I worked with. I think it goes the same way and that they will miss me. I talked with a handful of them. I really think it was best. After six years, there were times where I felt I was underutilized. Even though I worked with James Storm and I did the main event with Magnus, even after the Sam Shaw stuff I was put on the backburner for some odd reason and didn’t do anything wrong. After six years, I was to the point where I was stressed out a lot. I’m 33 you know and I don’t want my youth soaked up. I feel like I have something more to offer to somebody whether Impact calls me back in a couple months or WWE or Ring of Honor whoever it is, I know that me as a person I have a lot to offer. I think it was what was best for business.

“There is no bad blood. It was a mutual agreement and I thank them for the opportunities of having me in the Impact ring. But I have bigger and better goals and I think that since I was 5 I wanted that Wrestlemania moment. Ever since I was a kid I wanted to compete in the WWE ring and I’m not getting any younger. It’s still in the back of my mind, hey, I want to compete in a WWE ring or NXT has an amazing product right now down there. So I feel like I could wrestle on Impact and I’m looking forward to the future.”

His future and WWE:

“I personally hope to one day in the future compete in the WWE. I mean like I said a minute ago, that is my ultimate goal since I was 5. I really feel like even if I go and another huge goal of mine is acting. I’ve done two movies this year and I do numerous amounts of auditions every week but I think my heart lies and still does with having a WWE match and having that Wrestlemania moment. After that I can probably retire and hopefully build The Rock’s status and act as much as I can because I love acting. The beating on my body and wanting to have kids one day and enjoy them. If I’m 65 and I never even attempt to try WWE then there will be a missing and void there. I’m in Kingsport, Tennessee, Kentucky, Georgia and right outside of Atlanta. So anybody that follows me, I post independent shows. I’m booked up all the way to December from Virginia to North Carolina to South Carolina and I’m working on a UK tour, going to Korea for some Military appearances. I stay busy, man.”

MVP & Former WCW Star Backstage At WWE Night Of Champions

Well, it looks like Kane and Chris Jericho aren’t the only guests backstage at the Toyota Center in Houston, Texas, the site of tonight’s WWE Night Of Champions pay-per-view event.

According to PWInsider.com, former TNA star MVP is backstage at the venue in Houston, where he lives. Additionally, Stevie Ray, former Harlem Heat tag-team partner of Booker T, who also lives in the Houston area, is backstage as well.

As noted earlier this evening, Jericho is rumored to be the mystery partner for Roman Reigns and Dean Ambrose in their six-man tag-team match against The Wyatt Family, however that is strictly a rumor at this point.

Kurt Angle’s Brother David Angle Charged With Homicide

Terrible news hit the Angle family this weekend, as Kurt Angle’s brother David has been charged with homicide.

David Angle, 62, is currently in the Alleghany County jail awaiting arraignment on the charge, Lt. Andrew Schurman told the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette.

Angle’s wife was found dead in their Dormont residence on Sunday morning. Paramedics and police responded to a domestic disturbance call at around 6:24am local time to find Donna Angle unconscious and not breathing.

David Angle told police that he rejected an offer for alcohol from Donna, which resulted in a huge argument. He claims that Donna attempted to kick him, and he responded by grabbing her arms, placing his foot on her chest and pulling back. She then reportedly lost consciousness and never woke up, despite his claims that he tried to revive her.

Kurt Angle’s manager, David Hawk, issued the following statement to the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette:

“Due to the situation, Kurt would appreciate if you can honor his family’s request for privacy at his difficult time.”

TNA Executive Denies Recent Low Attendance Reports

Although there have been several photos that would suggest otherwise, TNA Executive Bob Ryder took to social media this weekend to deny the reports that TNA has been drawing awful attendance at their three most recent live events the past few days.

Ryder wrote the following on his official Disqus account:

“Just dropping by for a quick hello. No questions, been a long weekend of house shows and I have an early flight. We had three good shows. Everybody worked hard and fans were entertained.

First night we had 850, 500 in Morgantown, and 750 in Belle Vernon. For our return to the road after several months we were happy with the turnout and hope to build on those numbers with shows in Beckley, Salem, Thibodaux, New Orleans, Baton Rouge, and Biloxi.

Been reading some of the comments and some of you guys need to turn those frowns upside down! :) We may not be announcing things on a time line you want us to, but we have some good things coming and will make announcements once we have finalized the things we are working on.

We are working on everything from how and where we promote house shows, to how we handle merchandise and photo opportunities at the shows, to looking at new talent, etc etc.

Don’t join the doom & gloomers who find joy in constantly predicting our demise. We’re not going anywhere anytime soon, and we are still a strong number 2 in the United States – nobody else is close. If you will be in the Charlotte area please join us for BFG. If not, please watch the PPV. Thanks for your continued passionate support of TNA. Good things are going to happen soon.”

Jim Ross Q&A: Would WWE Buy TNA’s Tape Library?, Dudley Boyz/WWE HOF, Iron Sheik

WWE Hall Of Famer Jim Ross recently updated his official blog with his thoughts and opinions on a number of topics. Below are some of the highlights.

On whether or not WWE will buy the TNA tape library if they go out of business: “First, I hope that TNA does NOT go under but if they do I could easily see WWE buying their library for the WWE Network.”

On The Dudley Boyz back in WWE and if they should be inducted: “The Dudley’s are a HOF worthy team who can still go in the ring and can help the younger teams a great deal which is their greatest asset in today’s WWE IMO.”

On “enhancement matches” in today’s WWE: “Enhancement matches still have a place in the biz if used judiciously and in a timely manner.”

On his biggest concern for the industry today: “The development of legitimate, new main even stars with staying power.”

On The Iron Sheik’s tweets: “The Sheik doesn’t do is own tweets. The Magen brothers do it and do an entertaining job.”

Photos: TNA Draws Horrendous Attendance Again Despite Giving Away Free Tickets

As reported earlier this week, TNA’s first two live events of the year, which were part of the “Road to Bound For Glory” tour, drew just a few hundred fans to each show, and that’s including comped tickets being given out.

The TNA live event on Saturday evening was more of the same.

The event, which took place in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, hometown of TNA’s top star Kurt Angle, still drew along the lines of what the shows drew in York, PA. and Morgantown, W.V. earlier this weekend.

As seen below, free tickets were given away by the California University of Pennsylvania Student Center.

Homicide Talks About Wanting To Train Talent, What Went Wrong With TNA & More

Former ROH Champion Homicide spoke to to John and Chad of The Two Man Power Trip of Wrestling this week to give his take on his last Impact Wrestling run and what went wrong with the BDC. He also takes us all on a journey back to his intense rivalry in ROH with Steve Corino as well as the CZW vs. ROH feud which culminated in a huge POP that nearly blew up Ring of Honor. We also find out from Homicide how he aspires to be a trainer of the stars of the future and how he feels that he can offer a lot to WWE NXT from a coaching capacity. Here are the highlights:

Becoming a trainer post retirement and his next run being his last: “I think I would bring back what professional wrestling was supposed to be like. I know it’s sports entertainment and it’s about marketing and I would bring none of the cookie cutter, I would bring realistic out there and people could say I don’t know if this is real or fake. When I trained I trained like the way Fit Finally and Steven Regal wrestled, but I don’t do none of that stuff on TV or on the Independents. But now it’s different as I make my comeback, I’m changing my style. But I would teach them to be aggressive, to have guts and not to quit and just be the best. I’ve got so much knowledge and so many ideas that I could bring. I’ve been telling people on the Independents to look for the hard camera and not just look to the left or the right, there’s a reason why. It’s little things like that and I think I’m good with it and I’m very confident that I could be one of those big time scouts, agents or whatever. I’m going to be one of those guys in the future. First I’m going to have my last run and my comeback and then afterwards I am going to go behind the scenes.”

What went wrong with TNA and how did it change over the time: “The first time I went there it was pretty awesome. The staff, the camera crews and the people who write the books but when Hogan and Eric Bischoff came in everything just changed. I was one of those guys that was like when if you’ve ever seen the old Dave Chappelle sketch “When Keeping it Real Goes Wrong” well I was one of those guys who kept it real but sometimes in professional wrestling, especially corporate wrestling you need to play the games. Meaning sometimes you have to be quiet and sometimes you need to not say things. I would just outburst and didn’t care. I didnt care if I got fired. But when I did get released it felt like freedom and like I was a slave, almost because when Hogan and Eric Bischoff came in it was like everthing was different and a lot of people were scared of losing their jobs. When I got released it was like I got woken up I had people like The Dudley Boyz, Konnan and my teacher Manny Fernandez teaching me about the game about corporate wrestling and how it really is. I look back and say maybe I made a mistake just going out there and I didn’t care. Now, I am getting older and the way the wrestling industry is right now you need to keep you job and you’ve got to be quiet and just have to play along.”

Has he heard from TNA since his last run: “I’ve got respect for TNA. Even though if they are doing bad because I don’t hear anything from them anymore. If they are doing good or bad, I’ve got respect for them because I had a lot of fun with those guys.”

The BDC (The Beat Down Clan) and the calamity that led to the end of the group: “Me and MVP and Low Ki go way back. We love the Wu Tang Clan, the Japanese culture of wrestling even anything Jiu-Jitsu. I made a joke and said we were like the Wu Tang Clan of pro wrestling and that joke became something. Myself, Samoa Joe, MVP and Low Ki just got together with the blue print of it and we knew we were different and we spoke to the management of TNA. Suddenly things were not going well. I got injured, I had a bad shoulder since my Ring of Honor days. Then Samoa Joe had the “guys from Connecticut”. The WWE was looking at him and they gave him a great offer. So, so many things just came out. When things got a little more hectic we had our good friend Kenny King (who I think is the most underrated wrestler right now) and we brought my former LAX partner Hernandez from Lucha Underground coming back to TNA and still things didn’t go very well so we just broke it off. But we feel in spirit that we are the Beat Down Clan inside the locker room of course. But we wanted to make this bigger and so big that we would go to Japan and face The Bullet Club because that is the hottest faction right now in Pro Wrestling.”

A dream feud of The BDC vs. The Bullet Club and who would Homicide love to face: “I love AJ Styles, I faced AJ Styles so many times and actually him with Christopher Daniels had great feuds with LAX. The Young Bucks are guys that are just keeping it real and I love them. But, I would say Tonga, the face paint, I know his brother and I actually trained with him at the Dudleys school in Kissimmee, Florida. He is very talented and I’d like to face him because I think he is the one who is going to break through. After AJ, The Young Bucks and all the guys in the group I think Tonga is the one who is going to break through it all. Homicide also gives extreme detail about his feuds in Ring of Honor, the intense rivalry with Steve Corino, how ROH has changed since he first debuted with the company, heat with Dan Maff, Winning the X-Division title, his love of baseball and how his John Sterling Home Run Call would sound.”

Photos: TNA’s “Road To Bound For Glory” Tour Draws Poor Attendance

TNA launched their “Road to Bound For Glory” tour this past weekend to bad attendance numbers.

The Thursday evening show in York, Pennsylvania drew between 350-500 fans, while Friday’s show in Morgantown, West Virginia drew between 250-350 fans. It’s worth noting that several local comp tickets were available for both shows and will again be available for tonight’s event in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.

Below are some of the photos from Thursday and Friday’s shows:

Update On TNA’s TV Extension, Another TNA Star Leaves The Company?

Regarding Dixie Carter telling Sports Illustrated earlier this week that Impact Wrestling will continue airing on Destination America through the end of 2015, that would indicate some sort of an agreement was made between the two sides.

According to a new PWInsider.com article, however, the original TNA/Discovery deal was said to be for 39 Impact Wrestling episodes, which would wrap them up on October 7th. It appears now that TNA and Discovery have signed some type of an extension that will carry them through February of 2016.

Additionally, F4WOnline.com noted recently that another TNA departure was expected to be revealed this weekend. It appears that it may be Kenny King, as he returned to Ring Of Honor at last night’s pay-per-view to reform The All Night Xpress with Rhett Titus.

King posted the following after last night’s pay-per-view:

Lineup For TNA One Night Only: Gutcheck PPV, Winner To Receive Live Impact Appearance

The latest TNA pay-per-view is the “One Night Only: Gutcheck” event, which features singles matches leading to an Elimination Chamber main event. If the outsiders won their bout, they advance to the main event. The winner receives a special appearance on a live episode of Impact Wrestling.

The following is the lineup for the event:

* Crazzy Steve vs. Shaun Rocker
* James Storm and Manik vs. Ross and Marshall Von Erich

Knockouts Title Match Announced For TNA Bound For Glory

TNA has announced the first official match for this year’s Bound For Glory pay-per-view.

In Knockouts action, Awesome Kong and Gail Kim will go one-on-one for the Knockouts Championship at the October 4th pay-per-view event in North Carolina.

TNA’s Dave Lagana and Kim tweeted the following:

TNA Impact Wrestling Pulled Off The Air In More Countries

TNA Impact Wrestling has been pulled off the air in several more countries.

Discovery-owned DMAX has dropped Impact from airing in German and Austria. The show will no longer air in those locations after October 15th.

TNA is already off the air on Discovery En Espanol.

Additionally, Impact Wrestling was also dropped by Nuvolari network in Italy and Discovery-owned Eurosport in Romania and Finland.

As noted earlier this week, Impact Wrestling is currently scheduled to air on Destination America through the end of the year.

TNA Impact Lost 100,000 Viewers This Week

This week’s Impact Wrestling, featuring the blowoff to the TNA vs. Global Force invasion angle, took a major hit in viewership from the previous week.

The first airing of Impact drew 258,000 viewers, down 20% from 323,000 last week. The replay did 62,000 viewers, down from 96,000 last week. Impact’s total viewership was 320,000, down a sharp 24% from last week’s 419,000.

Definitely not a good sign for TNA’s “ongoing negotiations” with Destination America as they hope to extend their run on the network into 2016.

ROH TV only drew 89,000 viewers, down 36% from 138,000 last week.

Both shows went up against the Republican debate on CNN, which was the most watched show in the history of the network, drawing 23.2 million viewers.

Team TNA Defeats Team GFW, New Knockouts Champion, Title Match Next Week

– Next week’s TNA Impact Wrestling will features TNA World Heavyweight champion Ethan Carter III (with Jeff Hardy in his corner) defending against Rockstar Spud.

– Gail Kim became the new TNA Knockouts Champion on last night’s Impact Wrestling as she defeated Brooke Tessmacher, Awesome Kong and Lei’D Tapa. This kicks off her 5th reign with the Knockouts title.

– Team TNA defeated Team GFW in the “Winner Takes All” Lethal Lockdown match this week on Impact, effectively ending the Global Force Wrestling invasion and marking Jeff Jarrett’s latest departure from the company. TNA President Dixie Carter tweeted:

TNA’s First Live Events Tour Of 2015 Kicks Off Tonight

TNA’s first live events tour of the year kicks off tonight in York, Pennsylvania wit the Road to Bound For Glory Tour. Here’s the card:

Dixie Carter On TNA/Destination America Situation, WWE & Competition, More

TNA President Dixie Carter recently spoke with Sports Illustrated’s Extra Mustard bllog about a number of topics. Below are some of the highlights from the interview.

On TNA’s status with Destination America: “The biggest challenge for us is building a brand in the U.S. That’s where we need to grow. We’re contracted to Destination America through the end of the year, and we are in discussions going on for 2016.”

On TNA’s future: “TNA will continue exist, and on a level that far exceeds what we’re currently doing. I’m looking ahead five years down the road, not a year down the road.”

On TNA creating competition and WWE: “Besides WWE, we’re the only global promotion in the world. We’re in over 120 countries worldwide and in 19 languages. We made a conscious decision about three years ago to take a step back and focus on young talent. We’ve had some of the biggest names ever on our show. People have given us a hard time about using WWE talent, but after a hot run with us, almost every one of them has worked with WWE again. That is a huge compliment for us.

“I do feel we’ve taken some unfair blows. Competition, no matter who it is, is healthy. It’s absolutely imperative for the industry to grow. There’s a reason that there is a Lowe’s on the corner of every Home Depot, and a Walgreens across from every CVS. It’s important for the industry.”

TNA Loses Destination America TV Deal Effective January

After months of denials, it’s official, albeit with a twist: TNA Impact Wrestling has been cancelled by Destination America effective the end of the year. While the original report from Dave Meltzer in the Wrestling Observer Newsletter said that Destination America’s opt-out clause allowed them to cancel Impact after the end of this month, TNA President Dixie Carter told Sports Illustrated that they’re done at the end of the year.

In the Sports Illustrated article, Justin Barrasso wrote that “[Spike TV] cut ties with TNA last December, leaving TNA without a television network in the United States. History repeated itself a year later, as TNA’s current home for TV–Destination America–will no longer air Impact in 2016.”  Dixie Carter added that “The biggest challenge for us is building a brand in the U.S. That’s where we need to grow. We’re contracted to Destination America through the end of the year, and we are in discussions going on for 2016.”

Per Meltzer, the original memo issued within Discovery (Destination America’s parent company) read as follows:

Destination America is not renewing TNA Wrestling next year. While the ratings were strong, the audience was not large enough to justify the program investment. We plan to honor the current contract and continue to air original episodes of TNA Wrestling on Friday nights through the end of the third quarter 2015. When the up-front rate card is released, the Friday night anthology title will now be called ‘American Tales,’ which will be a combination of Paranormal and Americana programming. I hope this is good news given all of the advertisers that included TNA on their DNA list.

The DNA in “DNA list” means “do not advertise.” It refers to shows that a sponsor opts out of buying time on when they buy ads across a whole network. In this case, due to pro wrestling being perceived as downmarket or having low income viewers, advertisers who bought ads to air on most or all Destination America shows didn’t want to put their ads on Impact.
