WWE Blocks ROH From Running MSG

MSG

ROH will in fact not be holding an event at the world famous Madison Square Garden in New York City next year.

It was revealed in an interview with Sinclair Broadcast Group Inc. CEO Chris Ripley by Baltimore Business Journal that came out just last week that the promotion had plans of holding a show at the arena. However, that won’t be the case.

ROH COO Joe Koff spoke with PWinsider.com on Tuesday (June 19, 2018) to promote the upcoming Best in the World pay-per-view event.

In that interview, Koff revealed that they will not be running an event at MSG due to the arena backing out after talks with the WWE.

“I’m not going to discuss beyond this statement because I am not going to litigate this in the press.  We had a deal with [Madison Square] Garden and they then told us they were backing out after communications from the WWE.  We are not able to get any other dates in any kind of discussion.

I’m expecting that our lawyers will be contacting all the parties involved and the best we can hope is that we can find a resolution, so we can bring the kind of energy and excitement that ROH and our partner New Japan to a bigger audience and to bigger arenas and to the fans of New York City. ”

Although this was not confirmed at the time, the belief was that ROH would hold the event at MSG during WrestleMania 35 weekend.

It’s also been reported that the sports entertainment company was not pleased with MSG over letting ROH secure a date with them, which is most likely why MSG pulled its date with ROH.

Also, Koff was asked if there was even a possibility of a date still on the books with MSG. His response was short and to the point.

“There is no date and the discussion is going to end here on that.”
