This week’s episode of Monday Night Raw kicked off with Chris Jericho and WWE Universal Champion Kevin Owens in the ring. Kevin Owens spent a couple of minutes sucking up to Chris Jericho and welcomed the WWE Universe to the “Chris and Kevin” show. Jericho instructed the workers in the truck to show pictures from last tonight of Kevin Owens retaining his Universal Championship thanks to the interference from Jericho. Owens thanked Jericho for giving him the Codebreaker last night at WWE Roadblock. That Codebreaker got Roman Reigns disqualified and ensured a victory for Kevin Owens.
Owens posed with the Universal Championship and Jericho claimed that the Codebreaker hurt him a lot more than it hurt Owens. Jericho and Owens then shared a hug in the ring. Jericho insulted Santa Claus and claimed that he stole his gimmick. Jericho then added Santa Claus to the list. Mick Foley then interrupted with his jet black beard and leather jacket.
Foley then stated that Chris Jericho has been really naughty. Foley then showed pictures of Jericho and Owens getting Powerbombed through tables at WWE Roadblock. Jericho then insulted Foley’s jacket. Foley then took off the jacket and he was sporting a ridiculous shirt and a fanny pack. Foley went on to announce that Rollins and Reigns will be facing Jericho and Owens in a tag team match later on tonight.
A cage then descended to the ring and Foley announced that Jericho will suspended above the ring at the Royal Rumble. Foley announced that Roman Reigns will get a rematch for the Universal Championship at Royal Rumble and Jericho will be locked in the cage above the ring. Jericho was then locked in the cage and Foley couldn’t find the key. Jericho was then raised above the ring. Foley said he will try to find the way and the segment ended with Jericho suspended above the ring.
Reaction: This promo went on far too long. Besides Foley fumbling through his fanny pack, he also revealed that Roman Reigns will get a rematch for the Universal Championship at the Royal Rumble. Unless Reigns drops the United States Championship before then, that makes another PPV where that belt will not be defended. I still cannot come up with a reason why they gave that title to Reigns if they were just going to have him chase the Universal Championship. It is a complete waste of the title and the midcard on Raw has nothing to fight for right now.

Raw returned with Jericho hyperventilating due to being suspended above the ring. Jericho some how got out of the cage during the break and was backstage with Kevin Owens.
Enzo and Cass came down to the ring and cut a promo. They called Rusev “sawft” and Rusev interrupted.
Big Cass vs Rusev
This match was very quick. Big Cass beat the hell out of Rusev and the referee had to disqualify him. Big Cass continued to beatdown Rusev in the corner after the bell rang. Rusev eventually got away and escaped through the crowd.
Winner via DQ: Rusev
Reaction: Well, at least this match was short.

Sasha Banks then came down to the ring with her knee wrapped and she used a crutch to walk. Sasha Banks stated that she didn’t feel like “The Boss” anymore due to her loss to Charlotte. Sasha Banks then asked Charlotte to come to the ring so that she could congratulate her. Nia Jax came down to the ring instead. Nia Jax called Sasha Banks a weak little girl. Nia then kicked the crutch out from under Sasha and launched her across the ring.
Reaction: It was good to see Nia Jax on Raw. However, I think this segment would have been better if Nia did something besides simply kicking the crutch. Why not get a real reaction from the crowd and have Nia hit Banks with the crutch as well?

Foley introduced the new Raw Tag Team Championship titles to Cesaro and Sheamus backstage. A referee then interrupted and stated that Foley was needed due to an emergency. Braun Strowman was then shown flipping out backstage. Strowman demanded that Foley give him a rematch with Sami Zayn. Foley informed Strowman that Sami Zayn was not at the arena tonight. Strowman then warned Foley that there will be hell to pay and stormed off.

The New Day came down to the ring and cut a promo. Kofi Kingston stated that the New Day will not mourn about their loss of the tag titles. Kingston stated that in order for Ric Flair to become a 16 time Champion, he had to lose the belt 15 times. Big E then stated that would be Charlotte in a month and the crowd got a chuckle out of that.
Sheamus and Cesaro then came down to the entrance ramp wearing their new Tag Team titles. The New Day then congratulated Cesaro on the victory last night at Roadblock and instructed the crowd to shame Sheamus. Sheamus went on to state that he didn’t give a damn what the people in the crowd “tink” (think). The promo went on for a bit and Sheamus stated that he will break the New Day’s record.
Gallows and Anderson then came down to the ring. Gallows called everyone in the ring nerds and referred to the New Day as the “Nerd Day”. Gallows and Anderson claimed that the only reason Sheamus and Cesaro won the titles was because Gallows and Anderson beat the New Day up several times in the weeks leading up to Roadblock. The Shining Stars then came down to the ring and a brawl broke out. Raw then went to a commercial break after Gallows, Anderson and The Shining Stars were thrown out of the ring.
Cesaro, Sheamus & New Day vs The Shining Stars, Gallows & Anderson
The Shining Stars dominated the match early. Gallows and Anderson then joined the party and continued to beatdown Kofi Kingston. When Raw returned from a commercial break, Kofi was still trapped in the ring. Finally, Kofi battled back and connected with a Tornado DDT onto Karl Anderson. Kofi still wasn’t able to tag out of the match because Gallows prevented it. The Shining Stars then knocked Sheamus, Cesaro and Big E off of the ring apron.
Eventually, Kofi tagged in Big E and he laid everyone out with a few Belly to Belly Suplexes. Sheamus then tagged himself in and Big E was pissed off about it. The match then broke down and everyone took each other out. Cesaro hit the Cesaro Swing on Epico. Cesaro followed it up with the Sharpshooter and Epico tapped out.
Winners: Cesaro, Sheamus & New Day

Enzo Amore was backstage with Big Cass. Enzo stated that he felt bad that he was costing Big Cass wins. Enzo Amore then received a letter that he had to attend sensitivity training due to exposing himself on the November 21st episode of Monday Night Raw.

Neville came down to the ring and stated that last night on Roadblock he destroyed TJ Perkins and Rich Swann. Neville stated that he was annoyed that the audience cheered for him during the attack last night. Neville stated that he didn’t want any cheers from the crowd. Neville claimed that he was going to destroy everyone in the Cruiserweight division.
Rich Swann interrupted Neville and asked why he was asking this way. Neville told Rich Swann to shut up and stated that Swann hasn’t shown Neville enough respect. Brian Kendrick then came down to the ring and sucked up to Neville. Kendrick and Neville then surrounded Swann and beat him down. TJ Perkins ran down to the ring but Neville beat him down as well. Brian Kendrick then applauded Neville for his efforts. Kendrick hit Sliced Bread on Perkins as Neville walked backstage.
Reaction: Angry Neville is the best Neville.

Titus O’Neil and Sin Cara were supposed to have a match but Braun Strowman came down to the ring and beat the hell out of both of them. Strowman attempted to carry Sin Cara backstage but Foley stopped him. Strowman then launched Sin Cara into the Christmas tree and presents set up around the entrance ramp.

Charlotte came down to the ring and stated that she has solidified herself as the greatest Superstar the WWE has ever seen. Charlotte bragged about being undefeated at WWE PPVs. Bayley then interrupted and came down to the ring. Bayley congratulated Charlotte on her victory and then stated that it was time for the Charlotte and Bayley rivalry to begin. Bayley stated that she is 2-0 against Charlotte. That didn’t sit well with Charlotte and she went to claim that Bayley has never been good enough. Bayley then challenged Charlotte to a match.
Charlotte vs Bayley
Charlotte controlled the beginning of the match. Bayley battled back and connected with a Crossbody. Bayley then did the Ric Flair strut and spun around on Charlotte several times until she got dizzy. Raw went to a commercial break with Bayley in control of the match.
"How DARE you mock @MsCharlotteWWE!" – @WWEGraves#WOOO #RAW @ItsBayleyWWE pic.twitter.com/WknWFZJ1s3
— WWE Universe (@WWEUniverse) December 20, 2016
When Raw returned, Charlotte was in control of the match. Bayley fought back and connected with a Clothesline. Bayley went to the second turnbuckle but Charlotte shoved her off and Bayley went falling into the ropes. Charlotte then landed a Moonsault off the top rope and went for a cover but Bayley kicked out at two. Bayley then applied a backslide pin and won the match. Bayley is now 3-0 against Charlotte.
Winner: Bayley
Reaction: I find it bizarre that almost every champion in the WWE loses most of their non-title matches. I think it has a negative effect and makes the champion look weak. It is possible to have a heel champion and have them be dominant at the same time. Instead, we have Kevin Owens losing matches on Monday Night Raw. AJ Styles lost a couple of matches to James Ellsworth on Smackdown and now Charlotte is losing to Bayley. I would prefer to see the rest of the Superstars on both shows battling for an oppurtunity to face the champion rather than the person holding the title lose a throwaway match.

Roman Reigns & Seth Rollins vs Chris Jericho & Kevin Owens
Owens and Jericho started off the match by taking turns beating down Rollins. Seth eventually battled back and tagged in Reigns. Roman was greeted with boos as he entered the match. Jericho scampered away and tagged in Owens. Reigns smirked as Owens was hesitant to get in the ring. Reigns immediately landed a couple of right hands and knocked Owens to the mat. Owens quickly tagged in Jericho and he also received a right hand to the face from Reigns.
Owens and Jericho tried to escape up the entrance ramp but Rollins and Reigns ran after them and brought them back to the ring. Raw went to a commercial break with Rollins and Reigns in control of the match. When Raw returned, Reigns was beating the hell out of Owens outside the ring. Back in the ring, Owens kicked Reigns in the face. Jericho was then tagged in and he applied a Chinlock to Reigns. Jericho followed it up by hitting a Dropkick.
Owens entered the match and continued the assault on Reigns. Jericho then slapped Reigns across the head several times. This fired up Reigns and he punched Jericho in the face. Jericho knocked Reigns to the mat and tagged in Owens. Reigns battled out of a Chinlock and landed a Samoan Drop to Owens. Rollins finally got back in the match and Clotheslined Jericho out of the ring.
Rollins then hit a Suicide Dive onto both Owens and Jericho. Reigns hit a Superman Punch onto Owens outside the ring. Rollins went for a Frog Splash on Jericho but Jericho got his knees up. Jericho then applied the Walls of Jericho to Rollins but Seth reached the bottom rope to break the hold. Reigns then hit a Superman Punch to Jericho. Braun Strowman then sprinted to the ring and attacked Roman Reigns. Owens and Jericho then attacked Seth Rollins. Strowman got into the ring and Owens and Jericho got out of there. Strowman then beatdown Rollins and hit a Running Powerslam. Owens and Jericho then rolled Roman Reigns into the ring and Strowman hit another Running Powerslam on Reigns. Raw went of the air with Strowman standing tall in the ring while Jericho and Owens laughed on the entrance ramp.

Reaction: Monday Night Raw was especially boring this week. The only thing I found interesting was the way the show ended. Braun Strowman laid out both Rollins and Reigns. All the promos during tonight’s show fell flat and another Reigns and Owens match doesn’t interest me at Royal Rumble doesn’t interest me that much. The Royal Rumble isn’t happening for six weeks. I’m hoping that the rest of the episodes of Raw leading up to the Royal Rumble aren’t as uneventful as this one.
