WWE Smackdown (1/3)

Smackdown started off with The Miz claiming that he and Maryse were the reasons for the ratings increase on Smackdown. The Miz then held the entire show hostage until Renee Young came down to the ring and apologized to him. A “we want Ambrose!” chant broke out in the crowd. The Miz stated that Renee Young sacrificed her journalistic integrity for dirty deeds with Dean Ambrose.

Ambrose then stormed to the ring. The Miz got on the ring apron and Maryse stood in front of Ambrose. Maryse then slapped Ambrose in the face and The Miz laughed from outside the ring. The Miz and Maryse then retreated to the entrance ramp. Dean Ambrose claimed that the hardest part of his night was over because Maryse hits way harder than The Miz does.

Baron Corbin vs Dolph Ziggler

Corbin dominated the match for the first several minutes. Corbin slammed Ziggler into the ring apron, brought him back in the ring and continued to beat him down. Ziggler finally connected with a Dropkick and Smackdown went to a commercial break. When Smackdown returned, Corbin was back in control of the match. Corbin began to get frustrated because he couldn’t put Ziggler away. Ziggler battled back by hitting a Neckbreaker and following it up with an Elbow Drop.

Ziggler’s momentum was short-lived as Corbin hit a massive Clothesline. Once again, Ziggler battled back and hit a Zig Zag but Corbin was able to kick out. Eventually, Corbin planted Ziggler with the End of Days to win the match. After the match, Corbin tried to attack Ziggler with a chair but Kalisto came out and made the save. Kalisto chased Corbin off with a chair. However, Ziggler drilled Kalisto with a Superkick and shouted that he didn’t need help from anyone.

Winner: Baron Corbin

Reaction: This is a much needed heel turn for Dolph Ziggler. His character had grown stale and it was getting more difficult each week to take him seriously. Baron Corbin once again looked strong tonight.

James Ellsworth and Carmella had a conversation backstage. James took off his shirt and stated that he got it for Carmella. James then fumbled his words and Carmella asked him to accompany her to the ring for her match later tonight.

Apollo Crews, Mojo Rawley and Rhnyo were backstage. Dolph Ziggler stormed in and Apollo Crews confronted him. Ziggler attacked Crews and Rhyno and Mojo separated them. Ziggler has completely gone off the rails.

Becky Lynch vs La Luchadora

La Luchadora went for a Springboard Moonsault but missed and Becky Lynch locked in the Dis-Arm-Her for the victory. After the match, Becky ripped off the mask and it was Alexa Bliss under the mask. A second La Luchadora appeared and attacked Becky. Alexa joined in on the attack and left Lynch beatdown in the ring.

Winner: Becky Lynch

Contract Signing for the WWE Championship

AJ Styles thought it was a ridiculous that John Cena was off television for four months and was given a title shot. Daniel Bryan stated that Smackdown defeated Raw in the ratings because AJ Styles is the champion and because John Cena made his return last week. Bryan said that Smackdown was on a roll and they needed to continue that momentum by having the match that everyone wants to see.

Daniel Bryan walked away and Styles said that Cena was gifted a title shot by his brother-in-law. Styles said that Smackdown beat Raw in ratings because of him and that Smackdown was just fine without John Cena. Styles was annoyed that Cena backtracked on his comments on The Rock and said that Cena is a has been. Styles stated that when Cena looks in the mirror, he knows that he will never be as good as The Rock when it comes to Hollywood. Styles also claimed that Cena will never be as good as him in the ring and then signed the contract.

Cena claimed that AJ Styles just made the biggest mistake of his life by pissing off John Cena. Cena then stated that he has lost all respect for Styles and thinks he’s a little bitch. Cena stated that everyone else in his position would have already left for Hollywood by now but he is still here. Cena signed the contract and Baron Corbin interrupted. Corbin announced that he was entering the Royal Rumble and that he was going to win it. Corbin also claimed that he was walking out of Wrestlemania as the WWE Champion. Cena challenged Corbin to a fight but Styles hit him with a Dropkick while he wasn’t looking. Styles then left the ring and Corbin shouted that Cena’s time was up.

Reaction: What an excellent promo this was. Styles took some brutal shots as Cena and Cena responded by cutting a very direct and passionate promo. I already know that Cena and Styles will tear the house down at the Royal Rumble, but if the match will be even better if they continue to have promos like this leading up to the PPV. I liked how Corbin showed up to just remind Cena and Styles that he was there too. It is a long shot that Corbin will win the Royal Rumble match, but the WWE is clearly laying the groundwork for Corbin to be a star in the future.

Maryse confronted Renee Young backstage and hit her with a hard slap to the face. Maryse told Renee to never touch her husband again.

Carmella w/ James Ellsworth vs Aliyah

Ellsworth grabbed Aliyah’s foot while she was on the bottom rope and Carmella connected with a Superkick. Carmella then applied the Code of Silence for the submission victory. Carmella and James Ellsoworth hugged after the match.

Winner: Carmella

American Alpha vs Breezango

American Alpha won this match in under a minute by hitting the Grand Amplitude on Tyler Breeze. After the match, the Wyatt family showed up on the jumbotron. Bray stated that next week on Smackdown, the Wyatt family will claim what it is rightfully theirs. It looks like there will be a Smackdown Tag Team Championship match next week between the Wyatts and American Alpha.

Winners: American Alpha

Natalya and Nikki Bella came down to the ring. Nikki stated that the Bella Twins have worked hard to make the Bella name mean something. Nikki said that Natalya has benefited from being the Hart family and that she would be nothing without the Hart name. Natalya then showed a complimentary tweet that Bret Hart sent out about Nikki Bella. Natalya claimed that Nikki used her sex appeal to get what she wants. Natalya told Nikki that beauty fades and that when Nikki’s beauty goes away, John Cena is going to leave her. Natalya also said that Nikki Bella will wind up dying alone. Nikki Bella then hit Natalya with a big right hand and walked away.

Intercontinental Championship Match: The Miz (c) vs Dean Ambrose

Ambrose was angry and attacked The Miz right when the match started. Ambrose stomped The Miz down in the corner and then hit him with several chops. The Miz tried desperately to avoid Ambrose by running around the ring. The Miz finally got back in the ring when Ambrose purposely turned his back on him. Ambrose kicked The Miz in the stomach and launched him out of the ring. Ambrose continued the attack by slamming The Miz into the barricade.

Maryse distraced Ambrose and it allowed The Miz to connect with a Wrecking Ball Dropkick. Miz then threw Ambrose into the steel steps and Smackdown went to a commercial break. When Smackdown returned, Ambrose was back in control of the match. The Miz fought back and targetted Ambrose’s left knee. Ambrose hit a Neckbreaker on The Miz. Maryse once again distracted Ambrose and The Miz hit the Skull Crushing Finale but Ambrose kicked out at two.

Ambrose connected with a Lunatic Lariat and then Clotheslined Miz out of the ring. Ambrose then hit a Suicide Dive on The Miz outside the ring. Maryse slapped Dean Ambrose in an effort to get disqualified but Ambrose convinced the referee to throw Maryse out instead. The Miz hit Ambrose with the IC title from behind and went for the pinfall but Ambrose kicked out at two. The Miz went for the Skull Crushing Finale but Ambrose reversed it into the Dirty Deeds for the victory.

Winner & New Intercontinental Champion: Dean Ambrose

Reaction: I didn’t see that once coming. I thought The Miz would hang on for the Intercontinental Championship and Ambrose would chase it for awhile longer. This feud is far from over, but I would have preferred to see the IC title change hands at a PPV. Having said that, The Miz has something to complain about and I’m sure he will shout at Daniel Bryan when he joins Talking Smack later tonight.

205 Live (1/3)

Tajiri vs Sean Maluta

Tajiri won this match in an impressive fashion. Brian Kendrick then came down to ring and welcomed Tajiri to 205 Live. Kendrick tried to shake his hand but Tajiri spit green mist in his eyes instead.

Winner: Tajiri

Neville was interviewed backstage and once again claimed that Americans never accepted him because of how he talked and his size. Neville also said that if he was in the Cruiserweight division when it began, TJ Perkins would have never become Cruiserweight Champion.

Jack Gallagher vs Tony Nese

This was a quick back and forth that ended when Ariya Daivari showed up and attacked Gallagher from behind. Daivari beatdown Gallagher for a couple of minutes until referees finally arrived to break up the attack. The crowd booed as Daivari walked backstage.

Winner via DQ: Jack Gallagher

Cedric Alexander was backstage with Alicia Fox. Alexander asked Alicia to be more careful during his matches because he has been losing a lot lately.

Noam Dar vs Mustafa Ali

Ali controlled the beginning of this match and Dar tried to avoid him. Dar gained momentum of the match when Ali was getting back into the ring and he attacked him while he was hung up in the ropes. Dar isolated Ali’s left arm and focused all of his attack there. Ali connected with a Tornado DDT but he couldn’t go for a pinfall due to his injured arm. Ali followed it up with a Neckbreaker and tried to pin Dar without hooking his leg but Dar kicked out at two. Dar locked in an Arm Bar but Ali countered it into a roll up and Dar kicked out at two. Ali then hit a kick to Dar’s head and followed it up with the Inverted 450 for the victory. After the match, Dar was interviewed and said that Cedric Alexander was not man enough for Alicia Fox.

Winner: Mustafa Ali

Neville vs TJ Perkins

Perkins frustrated Neville early by hitting a Bulldog and a Head Scissor Takedown. Neville rolled out of the ring to take some time to recover. When Neville got back into the ring, he took control of the match. Neville connected with a Dropkick off of the top rope and then applied a Chinlock to Perkins in the middle of the ring. Perkins battled back and connected with a kick. Neville responded with a kick of his own and went for a 450 Splash but Perkins rolled out of the way.

Perkins hit a Basement Dropkick and followed it up with a Neckbreaker that sent Neville rolling out of the ring. Perkins leaped onto him and then brought him back inside the ring. TJ connected with a Crossbody off the top rope. Perkins then hit a massive Springboard Frankensteiner on Neville but Neville somehow kicked out of the pinfall. Perkins and Neville traded kicks but Perkins got the upper hand. Perkins went for the Knee Bar but Neville caught him and connected with a German Suplex.

Perkins climbed to the top turnbuckle but Neville shoved him and TJ fell crotch first into the turnbuckle. Neville landed a kick and then followed it up with a Superplex for the victory.

Winner: Neville

Reaction: For the second week in a row, the crowd was still there for 205 Live. There were certainly people that left, but it wasn’t as distracting as it was for the first couple weeks of the show. It was cool to see Tajiri return and I think he is a great addition to the Cruiserweight division. The Neville and TJ Perkins match was very good. Both Smackdown and 205 Live were very solid tonight.
