This week’s episode of Smackdown kicked off with AJ Styles coming down to the ring. The crowd started chanting “AJ Styles” and the Styles wasn’t a fan of it. Styles told everyone to put down their phones and be quiet. Styles accused Dean Ambrose of cheating last week on Smackdown. AJ referred to James Ellsworth as an embarrassment to humanity and stated that he looks like a foot. Styles claimed that he wants to beat the crap out of Raw at Survivor Series. Styles then called the rest of his teammates down to the ring.
Baron Corbin came down to the ring first. Corbin stated that he will deliver at Survivor Series just not for AJ’s team. The lights cut out and Harper, Orton and Bray were ringside. AJ welcomed the Wyatt Family to “Team Styles” and Ambrose stormed down to the ring. Ambrose then introduced James Ellsworth and they both made their way to the ring. Styles was visibly pissed off that Ellsworth was there. The Glasgow crowd started chanting for Ellsworth. Styles stated that Ambrose was outnumbered and insinuated that the rest of the team was going to beat Ambrose down. Corbin then rolled out of the ring and walked away.
Shane McMahon came down to the ring to a great response from the crowd. Shane told team Smackdown to put their personal differences to the side and focus on acting as a team at Survivor Series. Shane asked the team to harness the passion and energy of James Ellsworth and apply it to their match at Survivor Series. Shane McMahon then announced that Ellsworth will be the official mascot for team Smackdown at Survivor Series. Shane McMahon then made a match between the new Wyatt Family versus Ambrose, Corbin and Ellsworth.

Shane McMahon had a discussion with Corbin backstage. Corbin stated that he wasn’t interested in fighting with Ambrose and Ellsworth. Shane McMahon then took him out of that match and put Corbin in a singles match against Kalisto.

Natalya vs Naomi
Nikki Bella joined commentary for this match. Natalya started off the match in control and did that ridiculous “Yay!” scream. Carmella came down to the ring and got in Nikki’s face. Natalya tried to break up the fight as the coach. Natalya shoved Nikki and Nikki responded by shoving Natalya to the ground. Nikki then punched Carmella in the face. The referee started to count out Natalya and she hurried to get back into the ring. Right when she got back in the ring, Naomi rolled her up for the victory. Natalya looked upset in the ring after the match.

Ambrose and Ellsworth were chatting backstage. Daniel Bryan showed up and announced that Kane will be joining them in their match against the Wyatts later on. Ellsworth asked Kane what the strategy for the match was tonight. Kane responded by instructing Ellsworth to not tag in.

Baron Corbin vs Kalisto
Corbin attacked Kalisto before the match started. Corbin slid Kalisto out of the ring under the bottom rope and Kalisto fell face first into the mat. Corbin slipped off the apron and injured his knee. Kalisto took advantage and Dropkicked Corbin’s knee into the steps. The referee told Kalisto that the match was over and told him to go backstage. Kalisto didn’t listen and hit a Frog Splash to Corbin’s injured knee. Corbin took out Kalisto a few months ago and tonight he finally got his revenge.

Reaction: The first hour of Smackdown flew by. Nothing about the first hour was great, but there was nothing really awful either. My only real complaint is that Breezango is just randomly on the Smackdown team for Survivor Series. Raw did this as well. Alicia Fox and Nia Jax were barely on Raw yet all of the sudden they are added to the Survivor Series team. I think I may be one of the only people in existence that enjoys the Vaudevillians gimmick. It is cheesy as hell but I find it entertaining. I don’t find it entertaining when they are getting demolished by a team like Breezango. I thought the Vaudevillians had the potential to be an annoying heel team. Instead, they are pretty much a joke.
Smackdown Women’s Championship Match: Becky Lynch (c) vs Alexa Bliss
The announcer’s kept stating that this was tonight’s main event. The match took place at the beginning of the second hour. Call me crazy, but I thought the main event was the final match? It is a small thing but stuff like that annoys me. Much like a champion coming down to the ring first. Thankfully, that didn’t happen in this match.
The match itself started out back and forth. Alexa Bliss eventually took control of the match and targeted Becky’s arm. Bliss drove Lynch into the bottom turnbuckle and then whipped Becky’s arm into the ring post. Bliss continued to control the match by attacking Becky’s arm. Becky eventually was able to hit a Powerbomb and Smackdown went to a commercial break.

When Smackdown returned, Becky was in control of the match. Lynch hit a Becksplex on Bliss but Alexa kicked out at two. Alexa and Becky started to trade punches but Lynch got the upper hand. Bliss tried to roll up Becky out of nowhere but Becky kicked out at two. Alexa hit a DDT on Becky but she once again kicked out at two. Lynch locked in the Dis-Arm-Her and Alexa Bliss tapped out while her foot was on the rope. The referee somehow missed it because he was out of position.

Daniel Bryan announced that Kalisto will face Brian Kendrick at Survivor Series for the Cruiserweight Championship. If Kalisto wins, the entire Cruiserweight division comes to Smackdown. It was also announced that the Miz will face Dolph Ziggler for the Intercontinental Championship next week on Smackdown.
Apollo Crews vs Curt Hawkins
Curt Hawkins for some reason won this match easily with a roll up.

Winner: Curt Hawkins
Randy Orton, Bray Wyatt & Luke Harper vs Dean Ambrose, James Ellsworth & Kane
AJ Styles joined commentary for this match. Kane dominated the match early. Ellsworth was pleading to be tagged in but Kane wasn’t interested. Orton took control of the match and stomped Kane in the corner. Orton tagged in Bray and he continued the assault on Kane by hitting a running Senton. The crowd began chanting “we want Ellsworth!” as Smackdown went to a commercial break.
When Smackdown returned, Ambrose was battling Bray and Harper. Ambrose hit a Bulldog on Wyatt and Clotheslined Harper at the same time. Ambrose then hit a Suicide Dive on both Orton and Bray Wyatt. The action spilled back in the ring and Harper leveled Ambrose with a big boot. Kane and Harper then battled all the way backstage. Ambrose and Bray then hit a Clothesline at the same time.
Ellsworth tagged himself in and the crowd chanted “Yes!”. Ellsworth went for the No Chin Music but Wyatt caught him and hit the Sister Abigail for the victory. After the match, Dean Ambrose was surrounded by Styles, Orton and AJ Styles. Shane McMahon sprinted down to the ring to try and break things up. Daniel Bryan then followed him to the ring. Daniel Bryan then asked if Shane McMahon would become the fifth member of team Smackdown.

Reaction: The second hour of Smackdown was solid. The match between Alexa Bliss and Becky Lynch was very good. The finish was a bit goofy because it was in clear sight that Alexa’s foot was on the bottom rope. It was just kind of silly to me that the referee would miss that. On the other hand, the ending was good but there is now a reason for the feud to continue. Apollo Crews losing to Curt Hawkins just confirms how far he has fallen. Crews has all the talent in the world, but the WWE has apparently decided that they can’t do anything with him. Nobody cares about the Hawkins and Crews feud and now people are going to start seeing Crews as irrelevant. The main event was decent. I’m not really a huge fan of having Shane McMahon as the fifth member of team Smackdown but it makes sense storyline wise. My major takeaways from this episode is that Smackdown has a bunch of flaws on their teams now. I can envision Natalya somehow costing them the women’s match and Shane McMahon winding up the final member of team Smackdown left in the men’s match. There have been rumors floating around that Brock Lesnar may face Shane McMahon at Wrestlemania. I’m now wondering if something will happen between the two at Survivor Series.
