4 Takeaways From WWE NXT (11/6)

NXT

The November 6, 2019 episode of WWE NXT aired live from Winter Park, Florida at Full Sail University. Here are 4 takeaways from this week’s show:

The OC Invades

The OC

Right out of the gate, WWE continued the invasion angle but this time, RAW stars The OC (WWE United States Champion AJ Styles, Karl Anderson, and Luke Gallows) appeared. The group ambushed The Undisputed Era before the show started.

Styles did a promo in the ring about how they’re taking over since all of the NXT champions are out of action.

Tommaso Ciampa, Matt Riddle, and Keith Lee walked out in order to further the segment. The fans were all over this and popped for each star coming out.

Ciampa stated that while they’re preparing for war against The Undisputed Era at WarGames, they might as well take on The OC later in the show. Styles accepted the challenge on behalf of the group.

For fans who always wanted to Styles in NXT, this was your chance. They worked a six-man tag team match, which was a fun contest.

It was a good way to have Ciampa, Lee, and Riddle get the rub off of the group, which have been major players as a group on RAW for quite some time now.

Pete Dunne Victorious Over Damien Priest

Pete Dunne vs. Damien Priest

WWE built up Pete Dunne vs. Damien Priest for a week and it delivered in terms of in-ring action. Time will tell whether fans watching at home were hooked to tune in and check out the match.

In the match, Dunne went over. Dunne is a star with the hardcore fans while Priest remains to be a name on the roster but the investment in him remains to be seen whether he’s an actual star or not.

WWE likes him and has been using him on a regular basis on television since he’s signed with the company.

Priest being an older talent on the brand doesn’t necessarily help him should he want to move to RAW or SmackDown but as someone in NXT who can work with other talent and get them over, his role fits him well.

Dakota Kai Suffers Defeat To Shayna Baszler

Dakota Kai took on WWE NXT Women’s Champion Shayna Baszler in one of the top matches featured on this show. It was a fun television match but there was a bigger story that was trying to be told and did.

On the show, Baszler went over in the contest. For someone like Kai, who still has a way to prove herself to the fans as well as a worthy talent who could one day challenge for the title. Perhaps this was a preview of what’s to come. Time will tell.

The contest was set up with the idea of Kai wanting to be part of Team Ripley against Team Baszler at NXT TakeOver: WarGames. If Kai won or put on a good showing then she would be added to Team Ripley.

It will be interesting to see if she has done enough to join Rhea Ripley, Tegan Nox & Candice LeRae to take on Baszler, Bianca Belair & Io Shirai at this upcoming show later this month in Chicago.

After the match, Duke and Shaffair helped Baszler attack Kai until Bianca Belair, Rhea Ripley, and Io Shiri came out to make the save. Mia Yim hit everyone with a kendo stick. It appears that the teams are set with either Yim or Kai being added.

Angel Garza Becomes #1 Contender To Cruiserweight Title

Angel Garza

There is a new #1 contender to the WWE NXT Cruiserweight Title and that’s Angel Garza.

WWE booked a match between Angel Garza and Tony Neese in the second hour of the show. These two put on exactly what a cruiserweight match should be. Unlike at most 205 Live TV events and even when they air on pay-per-view, the crowd was into this match and behind Garza.

They put it all on the line in order to have the chance for a shot at gold. With the finish, Garza will now be next in line to challenge Lio Rush for the WWE NXT Cruiserweight Title.

Post-match, Rush came out to congratulate Garza for the win but Garza slapped him in the face. This championship match was booked for next week.

Garza, who is a third-generation wrestler and started in the business when he was just 15-years-old, has been a talent on the rise in the division and it’s safe to say that this was a breakout moment for him.

Whether that will lead to him becoming the champion remains to be seen but it’s a good step forward.
