5 Takeaways From WWE RAW (5/6)

Vince Roman RAW

The May 6th, 2019 episode of WWE RAW aired live from the U.S. Bank Arena in Cincinnati, OH. Here are 5 takeaways from the show:

Vince McMahon Announced A Wild Card Rule & Two WrestleMania Rematches

Vince McMahon kicked off the show and claimed that this is going to be a RAW that nobody will ever forget. Roman Reigns interrupted and made his way down to the ring. Vince told Roman that he has the police ready if Reigns tries to hit him with a Superman Punch.

Reigns brought up Vince and his spoiled kids lying to the crowd and telling them that they were the authority. Roman told Vince that he only listens to the people now and doesn’t take orders from him.

Daniel Bryan joined the party and claimed that he was robbed of the WWE Championship at WrestleMania. WWE Champion Kofi Kingston interrupted and blasted Bryan for going to the McMahons to complain about his loss at WrestleMania.

Bryan called Kofi an undeserving champion and added that his win was a fluke. Vince suggested a “wild card rule”, in which three superstars from RAW and SmackDown can show up on each show.

Drew McIntyre came down to the entrance ramp and said this is not SmackDown presents RAW. McIntyre called Reigns and egomaniac and vowed to Claymore him back to earth. Vince suggested that Reigns and McIntyre battle in a WrestleMania rematch. McMahon then announced that Kofi Kingston will defend the WWE Championship against Daniel Bryan later tonight.

WWE managed to make the Superstar Shake-Up irrelevant in just a matter of weeks with this new wild card rule. I’m not sure who would be interested in seeing another boring match between McIntyre and Reigns, but Kingston and Bryan should be great.

AJ Styles Turned His Back On Seth Rollins

AJ Styles then confronted Vince McMahon and complained about SmackDown superstars coming to RAW. Styles claimed it was convenient for Roman Reigns to come back to RAW once he gets a Universal Championship match against Rollins. AJ suggested that he is going to bring a couple of friends to SmackDown tomorrow night.

Universal Champion Seth Rollins marched down to the ring and told Styles that SmackDown was fine before AJ and has been fine since. AJ boasted about hitting Rollins with the Phenomenal Forearm last week and vowed to win the Universal Championship at Money in the Bank. Vince announced that Styles and Rollins will team up to face Bobby Lashley and Baron Corbin.

Corbin and Lashley controlled the match early. Lashley hit Styles with a Spear while AJ was on the apron and Bobby fell hard to the floor outside the ring. Back in the ring, AJ hit Lashley with a Dropkick and followed it up with a Pele Kick. Corbin tagged in and Styles tried to hit him with the Phenomenal Forearm. Corbin ducked and AJ hit Rollins. Styles then rolled out of the ring and walked backstage. Corbin capitalized on the distraction and planted Seth with the End of Days for the pinfall victory.

It took thirty minutes for the first match to start tonight on RAW, and it featured Corbin and Lashley. That is not an ideal start for a company that is desperate for ratings right now.

Ricochet Kept His Spot In The MITB Ladder Match

Ricochet put his MITB Ladder Match opportunity on the line against Robert Roode. WWE officials made the match after Roode stated that he deserves the opportunity because he defeated Ricochet two weeks ago.

Roode started off the match in control and stomped on Ricochet in the corner. Roode applied a Headlock but Ricochet quickly battled to his feet. Ricochet connected with a Moonsault and followed it up with a couple of Clotheslines.

Ricochet charged at Roode but Robert countered into a Spinebuster for a near fall. Ricochet battled back and hit Roode with the 630 Splash for the pinfall victory.

I have no idea why this match needed to happen in the first place. Roode has become a total lost cause on the main roster. I thought that by changing his look, WWE was going to present Roode in a new light and see what he can do. Instead, Roode now just loses matches while looking ridiculous. Roode is just one on the never-ending list of talented wrestlers that have been completely wasted on RAW or SmackDown.

Shane McMahon Escaped The Miz

Roman Reigns once again battled Drew McIntyre tonight on RAW. McIntyre controlled the majority of the match but couldn’t put Reigns away. Roman eventually battled back and leveled McIntyre with a Spear.

As Roman went for the cover, Shane McMahon and Elias rushed the ring. Shane and Elias attacked Reigns and the match ended in a DQ. The Miz came down to the ring with a steel chair and chased Shane through the crowd.

McIntyre hit Roman with a Claymore as Elias taunted him. The Miz chased Shane all the way backstage and to his limo. The Miz got in a couple of shots with the chair but Shane hit him with a low blow and escaped.

Kofi Kingston Retained The WWE Championship

Kofi Kingston defended the WWE Championship against Daniel Bryan in the main event of this week’s show. Bryan controlled the match early and slammed Kingston into the ring post.

Kingston battled back with a few punches as the crowd got behind him. Daniel slammed Kingston to the canvas and locked in an Arm Bar in the middle of the ring. Bryan tried to apply the LeBell Lock but Kingston was able to escape as RAW went to a commercial break.

When RAW returned, Bryan sent Kingston flying out of the ring and Kofi landed very hard on the floor. Daniel tried to send Kingston into the steel steps but Kofi hopped up on the ring apron. Kofi then leaped off the second turnbuckle and hit Bryan with a Crossbody.

Back in the ring, Kingston connected with another Crossbody off the top rope for a near fall. Bryan applied the LeBell Lock in the middle of the ring but Kingston was able to reach the bottom rope to break the hold.

Kingston connected with a Clothesline and then a Boom Drop. Kofi went for Trouble in Paradise but Bryan countered with a Dropkick. Bryan went for the LeBell Lock but Kingston blocked it and hit Trouble in Paradise for the pinfall victory.

Vince McMahon started off the show by claiming that this would be an episode of RAW that we will never forget. I guess he was right because this was the worst RAW of the year. The Revival was once again embarrassed tonight by The Usos in an idiotic segment. The United States Championship storyline is boring and the crowd already doesn’t care about The Viking Raiders. I didn’t get any enjoyment out of this episode at all and it is alarming that this is WWE’s attempt to try and get people to watch.
